Well, I did the
No-Boys-Allowed products of the 60's here
~one about Hair PRODUCTS from the 60's here
~ one about SCENTS of the SIXTIES here
~ one about the CLOTHING of the 60's here
So--Now that we have put on our
SECRET deodorant,
Used enough DIPPTY-DOO
so our hair won't move in a hurricane,
sprayed ourselves with Love's Fresh Lemon scent,
and got our groove on with a Gunne Sax dress-
Let's FIX OUR HAIR,
shall we?
So---
What was popular in the 60's for hairstyles?
We had the TWIGGY cut
which was pretty easy care.
AND we had the BEEHIVE
which took a pound of lacquer hair spray
to hold it in place.
How about THE BOB?
Or did you have the
SPLIT BANG HI-TOP?
You needed one can of Aqua Net
per day for this baby!
We had the long loose look
And-oh-yes-
Let us NOT FORGET
THE BOWS!
There was the BIG BOW style---
And the
LITTLE BOW STYLE
And let's not forget
THE FLIP!
Speaking of FLIP~
Did YOU flip over a BOY that
had a cut like
THIS ONE?
-OR-
Were you more likely to go for a guy that
wore his hair like this?
The "bad boy"?
As for me?
Well, I usually got stuck with someone that
looked like THIS-
How about YOU?
Do you recognize yourself in any of the
1960's hairstyles above?
Or remember seeing pictures of
YOUR MOM like that?
Or scarier still- Your GRANDMOTHER
that looked like any of them?
Spill the beans!
Meanwhile,
I'll be pushing the old beans around
over at the VA this morning...
see you later!

LOL! I was born in 1968, so I did not have any of these but my mom and dad certainly did. Mom had the "flip" in her wedding pics. Fun, Diana! Enjoy your day:)
Diana, I remember my mom with that flip. I usually just wore a pony tail. My sister Jeanie wore that big old teased up , smoothed over, can of spray look. LOL I guess That guy in the last picture...yikes. :):) That is almost a Sonny Bono look. Hope you enjoy the VA fellows today. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
I remember these styles. My sister was always wearing curlers for her look which I think was called the shag. That one with the split bangs cracks me up. You could hide your lunch in there! I was around 9 yrs. old and convinced my mom to let me grow my hair longer and wore it in a flip style. I went back to my short hair cut pretty fast because of the work involved to get the look. I remember my cousins wearing the flip too so I guess that was popular. Remember the TV show That Girl? Marlo Thomas always had the flip hairdo! Gees I'm flipping out! Haha :-) Fun post!
My sis had the flip! My hair was really big and wavy with no particular style!!!
Diana... thanks for the trip down memory lane. I wanted to be Twiggy more than anything in the whole world! I smelled like a lemon for about 4 years. Have a great week!
Yep, I had the "Flip" !
DIPPTY-DOO!! Had not thought of that in a gazillion years!! And I soooo wanted to be Twiggy, but I had long hair, sniff!
My grandma had a beehive for a while--from the pictures it looked pretty neat on her! Love to watch the 60s and 70s tv shows!
I had the Twiggy and the flip during my "wild" days. LOL xo Laura
Ha! I tried them all! Think I had a huge French Twist sometime in there, too. My favorite hairstyle of all time was the pageboy. Now I try to keep it cute short so I can work in the yard and wash it a couple times each day. Just know no more curlers or rollers. Sleeping on those were "the pits." Linda@Wetcreek Blog
I was an infant in the late sixties and sadly, bald. My mom had a bob/ flip combo...and oh yes, sprayed to the hilt and hard as a rock!
I recognize every hairstyle here, and my boyfriend's ponytail was longer than mine! Great post!
I had the split bang top but not so high! lol
Just like Ron, I was also born in 1968 and so I had the bad 70s hairstyles. My mother definitely enjoyed her big can of hairspray and I remember staying clear of the bathroom after she was in there.
Oh the memories.....I was a flip girl! hugs...
None of the above! My hair was an in-between length but I do remember Dippity Doo. I went for the flip and a bow. Guys had the Beatle cut!
Fun to reminisce!
Deb
Yes...a flip, a bob, and longer turned under style. Did a few bows. I used some hairspray, but not overboard like some of my friends. Funny thing...after many hairdos in between I am back to a bob, which I sometimes flip! Full circle in fifty years. Thanks for the memories. Sheila
Time definitely changes things. Sometimes for the best. When you started out with this, I thought you had done something drastic to our hair.
Twiggy hair cut for me. I hate hairspray and never used it so this cut usually looked soft.
xoxo,
Vera
Dippity Do, Breck shampoo, Mitchen deodorant. very little hair spray. I usually had a short bob looking style but not high at all. I used those gigantic curlers and even slept in them. I would do a semi curl on the sides. I'd used the D. D. and tape. I got sent home from school once because that tape left big marks on my face. I was allergic to tape and didn't know it. I also straighten my hair. I loved the SHAG. I would wear it again. It worked great with my curly hair. Scents......Ambush and Brut for guys. Clothes - we couldn't wear pants at school. On the week-ends, I would break out my shorts and knee socks with matching would sweaters and shorts......Villager. Summer, loved the surfer shirts. I did have bell bottoms and hip huggers but I was pretty conservative. I wore suits to school in high school. Can you imagine. I was voted best dressed in my senior year. The Hippee movement happened when I was engaged and getting married. I had a pair of jeans with a peace sign on the pocket. I don't remember wearing other jeans, ever. Oh if they could see me now. So fun to look back.
LOL..... It's funny how styles come and go.
I started the sixties with a cut that we called the bubble, it was somewhere between your Bob and your Split Bang High Top and I ended the sixties more like a Cher cut . . . parted in the middle and long and straight:) I haven't heard the words Dippity Do in such a log time . . . back when I had the bubble cut, I slept in big brush rollers every night. How did we do that?
Love this post! I had the flip.
I'm back to wearing the same short hair do I wore in the 60s and 70s! lol Short and easy to brush and go! Remember getting perms? Oh those were the worst! Enjoy your day my friend. Hugs, Diane
Well, I wasn't born until the 70's, but I remember my aunt had a beehive. So funny! I wonder what her hairspray bill was like? I myself was an avid Aquanet user most of my teen years. ;) Oh, that pic of James Dean!!! I LOVE him! The few movies he made are my favorite. I just watched East of Eden again the other day. I have three little decorative garden bunnies that I named Jett, Cal, and Jim after his characters. :)
I had the flip and used the little bow! My guy wore the bowl cut!
I had the Twiggy, the flip, and both bow styles...remember the super thick, loosely twisted yarn we tied around with the small bow? I also had split down the middle, long hair down to my waist...and I had a shag wig! My guy had longer hair when we got married...
Brings to mind a picture of me as a little girl with those horrible short bangs and a flip!! LOL!
Brings to mind a picture of me as a little girl with those horrible short bangs and a flip!! LOL!
LOL - I believe that I tried all of the hair do's.... As for the guys - liked the bad boy look. You sure are bringing back memories that I had forgotten about.. I used a lot of hair spray....
Have a good one.
xxoo
Mary
Oh did I enjoyed looking at the pics of the sixties, how fun! I had the long straight hair, Cher type with bangs and probably liked a hippy too, lol!
Before that I did wear my hair in a half pony tail with bow too...jejejeeee Mother wore that beehive hair, I can see her still now. Such memories
dearest friend.
Have a great and fun week.
FABBY
Oh sigh.... "The Flip". Yes. -sighhhhh- Emma Peel style, of course...
And I so wanted Doris Day bangs.
So..... And do you remember this time?????? Obviously fake wigs! And hair falls. Which make it look like when you pulled you hair up and back, you had miles of hair. Oh yes!
And the topper was, it was perfectly logical and ok, to get wigs, in a different color. So I had a fake wig, with platinum Doris Day bangs and sides. A PLATINUM wig! And I even wore it to church. (yes, back then, I went to church.)
Betcha' that fashion flash, had to be about the most weird. Anyone could buy a cheap fake wig and sport it, and it was ok!!!
Did I catch you, with this memory??????? ,-))))))
I LOVE this post!!! I think any of those styles could be pulled off as trendy right now!
Hi Diana well I remember the Twiggy haircut it was fun and easy to take care of. but I still enjoy the longer hair with a bit of wave. we really did use a lot of hairspray what fun this post was Blessings Roxy
Well Diana, I was just a sapling in the 60's but I do recall many of those looks. It also sounds like you were the Sonny Bono type of gal - LOL!! Enjoy your day! Blessings, Cindy
Split bang high top with little bow! Or short haircut using tape and lots of dippity doo and hair spray. Teased my hair while sweat ran down my face (no ac in our HOT house!) Oh, the suffering we endured to look weird! Sleeping in huge curlers! And yes, we thought the guys looked pretty cute like that.
I have a picture of my Mom on my desk from the late 60's. She has a little side bang and a short flip. She did not wear bangs very often but she did look cute in them.
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
BTW ~ I was just looking at your profile picture and you have very pretty hair!
Susan and Bentley
I had more of the "Cher" look...lol. long, and used an iron to get it straight, or those huge pink rollers. The Beatle haircut was my guys haircut.
What a fun post, Diana.
Debbie
xo
the little bow style can come back if it wants, I like that on women
Love this fun walk down memory lane! I had the twiggy cut in 8th grade, but I had the flip more than once. Did you know that the big bows are back in? Yup, history repeats itself. My hubby looked like the first pic when we got engaged.
hugs,
Jann
Oh my goodness...I remember my sisters with these looks and I desperately wanted the flip like Marlo Thomas on THAT GIRL....with all the Aqua Net we used I can't believe we didn't own the company.
I wore a flip in the mid 60s, newlywed, and I always fell for the bad boy!
Funny I was a teenager in the 60's my hairstyle was wash and go, It was long and blond and straight with a fringe, just so easy.
Merle..............
Hi Diana! Oh, I had a flip and teased on top. Oh, do you remember 'falls'? :) I had one of those too!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh yes!! I had the beehive, and the flip. Yikes!!!
Kathy
I guess I had a flip most of the time that evolved in to a shag...Never teased my hair..
The bad boy usually won..
I was more into the long straight look myself. Since I was born in 1955 I mainly remember my sister rockin' these dos :) I wore my share of bell bottoms and knee-hi boots that laced up the front with a dress that was the length of most of the shirts I wear these days! What a fun post Diana!
I loved this walk down memory lane.
hugs from me, and Landon too!
I had the Twiggy haircut and the flip! What a trip down Memory Lane! I had the clean cut guys though, no bad boys for me- obviously, I would have had more fun! Dang! These are too funny!
I remember those days. y es, Twiggy, I admired her so. I fought to have straight hair. My sister and I used to iron our hair or use soup cans for rollers...LOL Great memories.....xo
The 'flip' was my thing in the late 50s and early 60s. And now, at almost 70 I've gone back to it, but just below shoulder length, and my hair's no longer auburn, but silver. Goodness, your pics brought back many memories. Blessings
The flip! We wore our hair in rollers much of the time to be ready for going out. Ha!
Yep, I wore the flip look in high school and have my senior pictures to prove it. Later in the 70's came the shag!
Diana, these posts are fun!
hugs
Sissie
I am rolling! I personally love teasing my hair...so I guess I would have fit in with the times back then. Thanks for this post to make me giggle!
Mine was short, not quite the Twiggy short..lol How about you? Which hairdo..do you re,ember?
Blessings,
Gert
I had boring, parted down the middle hair with bangs in the 60's. And Farrah Fawcett hair cut in the 70s. I remember in the early 60's, my sister and I getting our pictures taken professionally. And my mom too....OH MY GOODNESS!! She had her hair piled up on top of her head. Seemed like it was a foot high. And some ringlets if I'm remembering right LOL.... Kinda scary!
Thanks for another fun look at the good old days :)
Remember them all! I use to wear the Twiggy haircut! Kinda still do now! xox
I was born in 1964 so I don't have a lot of memories about the 60's since I was so young. I know I wouldn't have fit in then though since I have natural curly hair. It seemed that my hair best fit the 80's! LOL!
Haha! Such a good post. I enjoy your humour. These hairstyles were before my time but I did see pics of my mom with the flip....
Oh, I loved the BEEHIVE, still do - so classy, but my hair was curly so could never get it to look like that. I guess mine was similar to the LONG LOOSE hair-do........only with a few more curls hehehe. Oh, I just love these down memory lane posts of yours, Diana.
love, ~Sheri
Only seen them in pictures.... was born quite a bit later. So neat to go back and see how much has changed!
Blessings
,Jill
As a child born in the 50's, I got to experience all these great styles. Mostly I rocked the "Artichoke", which was similar to the "high top" you showed above, but had layers all the way down (woo-hoo) or the "Bubble" (a shorter version of the high-top). Funny thing is, I had a round face and probably those were the worst hair styles for me.
Hi Diana,
I was pretty young in the 60's but my mom had the Bob. When I was a teenager and young girl in the 70's it was the Farrah Faucett shag hair cut that I wore. Oh those were the days. This was a fun post.
Kris
Love those styles! I laugh when I see old photos of me and my hair history through the decades! My mama had the little bow wave look up there! Wishing you a great day tomorrow buddy! Fun post!! Nicole xoxo
I pretty much had all those styles in the 60's and 70's. I was cool! Now my thinning hair takes longer to arrange than any of those more complicated dos of yesterday.
I married # 1 guy, because my mother wouldn't let me date #2,
I love these posts of yours. My hair was long with bangs or a flip :) Do you remember those yarn tie things? I had a lot of those and would pull my hair up and wear one of those in it. I had friends who did a lot of the teasing and hair spray.
When I met my hubby he was in the Army so he had a short military type hair cut. When he got out he let his hair grow and ended up with a look like that guy first guy for a long time. I went to cosmetology school in the 70s so I've been cutting his hair for many years now. I keep him looking pretty neat :)
I dated and married a bad boy, James Dean type. Mine went WAY back to the eary 1950's. Mom was the WW11 era. Short skirts, rolled hair on the sides with the back in a net, clunky heels with lines down the back of your nylons that had to be perfectly straight. Swing and jitterbug and the big bands and Johnny Comes Marching home...It's a GRAND OLD Flag and everyone watching Shirley Temple and trying to make their little girls into her. My Mom was one of them. I thought she was beautiful...and she was. Me? Not so much. :) No star here!
Hair styles...only the tiny bows and only for a short while. No white lipstick. black and white saddles. I had poodle skirts and maryjane shoes...no ratting of the hair. I hated pony tails because I thought my ears stuck out. Long hair has always been my thing.
I wore several of those hairstyles. I believe my favorite was the short flip but most of the styles didn't stay around all that long. Lots of ratting, hair spray, white lipstick and saddle shoes...of course.
Love the flip, but my hair never did that. Just had long wavy hair. My mom did try to tease her hair.
I always wanted my hair to flip but it never would cooperate to my satisfaction. I usually wore my hair somewhat short sort of like the fourth photo only not teased quite that high! I always had bangs. It always took lots of hairspray to keep my very fine hair in place and it still does. :) Hubby, when we married, had the Elvis sideburns! lol!
Diana...I was born in 1959, so I was too young to wear those hairstyles in the 60"s. However...I do remember my mom wearing her hair with the flip.
hugs,
Cindy
How fun, I've seen pictures of my mom with a flip, though I remember her with something like a long loose look. I would love to have the beehive so pretty! And my daughter is crazy about bows, big, medium or small she'll wear them any day!
Fun post. :-)
Yes, my mom wore a couple of the styles. I think the beehive would be fun. My aunt Sharon wore her hair beehive style for her wedding. :-)
First I had the Twiggy cut, which looked awful with my fine hair, and then I had the flip, which also never quite looked like the pictures in magazines. At least I don't have the shame of ever sporting one of those boufant styles!
I was in high school from 1966 - 1970 and I wore my hair just straight most of the time. In mid 70's I would put 2 tiny braids on each side with leather braided in and feathers at end. Had none of the styles you showed.
