We just did our deck planter last weekend. We're behind and I'm blaming it on the weather too.
That's a perfectly sweet reason not to have planters in full bloom. If it makes you feel any better, mine are planted but currently drowning in the 8 inches of rain we've had since Saturday. I'm ready to offer them water wings in hopes of survival!

Diane, I love your planter. After all you are providing a much needed shelter for the baby birds. I think that is just as pretty as flowers.
Hi Diana, I had babies in my planter too and they just flew the coop. Funny thing was there were two nests in the same planter but the babies didn't change nests until just before they flew. I posted about it here.

As for those lovely "other" planter boxes? They are great but way over planted - don't you think? I mean someone did those for a special occassion only - because in no time at all they'd be root bound and not flourishing, do you think?
Maybe that's just me. I tend to think less is more when planting in small spaces. And I prune like crazy and everything does well then most years.

Some parts of mother nature's plan go on, even if we can't . :):)I think it must have been exciting for the children to watch a bird come into the world. Yesterday, I saw a bird fly to the side of our catalpa tree and land on a little bump and hang on. I went out to look and it was the bluebird leaving home. I saw the parents later flying around too. My first bluebirds here. :):) Diana, seeing those beautiful planters...gosh my containers look rather sad. LOL. xoxo,Susie

Those first three planters are gorgeous, but you will get much more enjoyment out of yours. Sharing that with your grandkids makes me think of similar moments with my Nana. They will remember it. Trust me.

I'm so proud of you for leaving those babies to grow up. Some people wouldn't.
Those other planters are gorgeous but you have living breathing sweet babies in yours. Do you know what kind of birds they are?
We have had a long chilly spring and I think most flowering is behind here too. We are just finishing up springtime chores. Now I am hoping we don't fly into hot, dry summer weather.
My for-always window boxes are filled with inpatients but I have heard there is a disease with them. Unfortunately I didn't learn of this until I planted. So far, they are doing well. But, last year, for the first time ever, we fought something and lost them early in the season.
Yup, that's about the way my spring was, it was late so I just planted a few things and let the rest go. Maybe I can post my weedy yard and between the two of us we can start something new!!! Think it will catch on??? :)
Love the baby birds though...I would have skipped planting too and left them alone.

I truly appreciate real! I wouldn't have moved the bird's nest either. I do have to say that the second picture really makes my heart flutter a bit...stunning, but I would never be able to keep it that way!
The grass isn't always greener in the other deck planter... sometimes it's feathery-er!

We just found out we have baby Robins in the yard; your babies look like doves? O.k. I really think you should have told us where these planters are-or linked up to them if they were from blogland. Wish I had some like that too.

We have birds and their babies in the back yard. It's soooo entertaining! The birds torture our cat. They chase her around the yard. It's crazy! I guess they're trying to keep her away from the nest. Is that where the phrase cat bird came from? Anyway ... the planter grass is nice and green. Miracle grow? Haha? Love you and your sense of humor. And realness...is that a word?
I am loving your honesty, keep it real sister. I always dream of having lovely boxes like your photos and I can start off early spring with them but this week has been in the 90's and today I noticed their short lived life is drawing near.

We use propane gas for our cooking and supplemental heat in the winter. I went out to check the level on my tank yesterday and when I lifted the lid a baby bird lifted its beak for me to give him food.
I eased the lid back down. I just hope we don't run out of gas before it leaves the nest :)
Oh shoot, that is way more fun than having just dumb old flowers in the box!
