Enter If You Dare-Scary Stuff Ahead

Don't say I didn't warn you!
If you have
ANY CARDIAC PROBLEMS
please
DO NOT OPEN THIS DOOR!!!
Well, I can see my picture is a bit
tilted so turn sideways when
you go in.

These doors open off the little
kitchenette we have downstairs.
On the other side is a lovely
media room for
movies and popcorn.
But THIS SIDE?
It is the one area that never
really got finished.
One of those-
"We should have finished that
when we moved in" areas.
OK...READY?
OH MY!
Are you sure you are ready?
Enter at your own risk.
MyHero won't believe I am
really posting this till he
sees it for himself.
It is one of those
"are you crazy showing that"
conversations.
I am proud to answer YES..
because if you aren't a
TAD CRAZY
you aren't real!
Anyway- ready?
Here we go!
The basement has 3 areas.
I am switching the Christmas/Fall/Spring
area with the sewing/store crap area.
Ummmmm....scared yet?
Deep breath...
The top (2 pictures) area is
switching places with
the bottom (2 pics) area.
Everything in the world has
been stashed in this side
of the basement.
Notice how nice and neat my
fabrics are?  NOT
Don't know what to do with something?
Put it in Nana's storage area.
Whew!
That was scary showing that in
real life.
If you don't see me for a day
or two you will know where
I am.  Please call 911 if
I do not resurface to answer
emails by tomorrow.

You know what else is scary
down there?
Remember I said there were
THREE areas?
Well, there is a
home gym area, too...hahahaha
You know
WHAT'S REALLY SCARY?
The treadmill has started
leaving me messages!
S-C-A-R-Y!
See you later?
I hope!

I'm so jealous that you have a basement! It just looks like glorious storage/junk/project space to me...but take that take that compliment with a grain of salt...I have "hoarderish tendencies".

When we downsized two years ago, we filled up a dumpster with STUFF from our basement! When we did have exercise equipment, I would have to dust it off!!!!!!

Cindy (Applestone Cottage) said...

It don't look scary to me Diana!
I love all the storage you have, who cares if its a bit messy, its storage!
Hugs,
Cindy

Tete said...

That's not messy. I could show you Craig's room, now that's scary.
Good luck and if I don't hear from you by noon, I'll send in the forces.

ha... I like Tete's comment... we have Abbey's room... that's scary too... very scary!

John and I are tackling the GARAGE today that looks similar to your basement. That rascal is still sleeping. I guess his worst nightmares are not as bad as what awaits us in the... GARAGE!

LANA said...

Well you certainly scared me!!! However,I am jealous of all your storage space!

everyone has a crap area but not everyone can have a home gym. Would love that. Now get on the treadmill!!!:)

I think my basement might just be scarier lol! And curses to the exercise equipment for taunting you like that!! Have fun with the redo...you will love it when it's done! :) Jane

Your basement looks like ours did - then we did a major overhaul and clean out. Now I can't find a darned thing.

What a clever post....now I don't feel so alone with my "wrecked" room!

Diana, You have my sympathy. My basement, which was suppose to be my area for crafts and art(not to mention the laundry activity)...turned into the storage barn too. I am thinking of just donating more and more of my craft things...who knows what I have anyways, certainly not me .:):)xoxo,Susie

I may have found someone with more totes than I have! LOL. I know exactly how you feel. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

Diana I can quite honestly say all of our entire possessions would not fill half or maybe less than half those totes!Wow, its very tidy though, I would get rid of the tread mill, thats spooky.

I am glad to know I am not the only one with scary closets!! Your sewing area I Love, you need to make it cozy and get busy!! LOL
Good luck Diana, see ya' when you return!

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions said...

Is it like Narnia, you think, Diana? : ) Get lost among a few bins in there and you wind up meeting up with a goat/man. My husband put some shelving units up in our attic and it keeps things much neater for all my bins. I've even managed to keep the seasons/holiday bins all together.

Miss my home gym at our old house. I couldn't even bring anything here because it is so much smaller, but my daughter took the treadmill.

Our garage has become a storage area.
This past Summer, I addressed all of the "I'm home from college..."dump and run boxes!".
(The kids have been out of college for 6 years.)

It seems like I hate to part with certain things. Then, one day, I wake up and think...It's time for this to go! All the while I'm hauling it to the trash, or thrift store...I'm thinking...why have I waited so long to part with this stuff?

Did that previous paragraph make sense?

Don't forget your hard hat!

Good Afternoon Diana,
I would love to have all that wonderful storage space. I live in England and our houses are much smaller. I know I would spread and my room would look just like yours, but oh my, to have the space would be wonderful. I think I would have to do this job in "baby steps" a little at a time, but my husband would dive right in, and clear it all out in no time! I have become your newest follower and I am sending you Best Wishes from England, Daphne

Oh you can't scare me! I have a very similar basement. We just bought more shelving/more tubs and I'm in the process of organizing it all. I just told Kevin last night tht he should be very careful down there - tripping hazards everywhere! It's a work in progress for sure. Good luck with your basement!

Linda at French Hollow said...

Whew, I thought I was the only one who hadn't hired professional organizers. Don't get lost down there!

Blessings,
Linda

Jane said...

Lol!! You certainly have your work cut out for you! It's really not that bad - it's an semi-ordered disorganization... I've seen worse, if that helps :) On the other hand, isn't it great to have the room to store everything?

Beth said...

I would love enough space for a home gym. I like the motivational tread mill too. ;-)

Love it!!!! I'm so glad to find out that you are my kind of normal!! Looks like too much work, just leave them where they are and kick back for the day!!

Hopefully we hear from you by Monday!

My treadmill went to auction with most of the stuff in my basement..I had to do some serious downsizing and I'm happy to say, I still have room to grow...

Whoa Diana!!! Believe it or not your basement looks so much better than mine, at least you have those neat, plastic containers to hold all your precious things:)

Dewena said...

I think you need a professional organizer. If you find one send them to me. But you have oodles of space! Sounds like a PROJECT to me. Are you up for it, that is the question. When I think of scary basements I think of the one in Home Alone and it wasn't scary after he little boy gained his self-confidence!

Your keeping it real that's for sure. I wish I had a basement.

Yikes! Ok, if we don't hear from you in a week or so, we'll call 911, ok? Now I know where you stash your Hero when he's been naughty!!

Who knew you were a closet hoarder? In this time when others are thinking of New Year's resolutions and losing weight, I am thinking of getting rid of my exercise equipment (wow, it took me five tries to figure out how to spell exercise - my brain is getting too old)! Have MyHero get you one of those "help I've fallen" buttons for when you're cleaning the basement.

Hi Diana, I am watching it snow this morning out my window. Big Flakes, I have my coffee and cinnamon raisin toast so I am good to go and catch up with my friends this morning. Yours is more organized then mine. I have enjoyed reading your previous post. I hope you have made it back up for air. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

At least you have nice containers to put your stuff in. I still have cardboard boxes. I think I need to remedy that.

Ann@A Sentimental Life said...

How did you get in my basement? Rubbermaid has made fortune off of us! I say every year I want to change it into a craft and sewing are..maybe this year if I can get the $$
ps stop over and see me my neice's are having a giveaway!

Lucille said...

I don't think it's scary. I think it's wonderful that you have so much storage area. I have a one bedroom apartment and last year the landlord took our lockers away. You have no idea what I went through trying to sort out what to keep and what to give away and to cram everything else in two already full closets. It's a nightmare! All the other tenants had to go through the same thing. A lot of people just moved away. Ohhhh, how I miss that locker!

Oh that doesn't scare me at all-I think we all have one of those darn spots that never organizes itself or by little elves overnite.
Wouldn't that be AWESOME!?
Or a twitchy nose to do our bidding-LOL
I keep forgetting to say that I like your new blog style-it's crisp and for some reason reminds me of spring-go figure.

Well your 3 areas look better than my office/craft room. I'm working on cleaning it up for the 20th time. Isn't January great? Always a good time for purging.

Janet said...

Thanks for sharing this,Diana! This is certainly real life. I know I only want to post pretty pictures, but in real life I woke up this morning to our dog (German Sheperd) throwing up all over the carpet and stepping over everything that belongs in my son Jimmy's room that is now in the hallway because of his room redo!

This resembles our garage., which has turned into a storage unit with only a designated area that the car fits into.
Our home WAS once the right size for our family, but now we are busting at the seams - it's not a pretty sight!!
Good luck with your re- arranging.

Celestina Marie said...

Hi Diana, You are so funny!! I love your storage space and looks like you have even more room to stash a few more totes. How great to have all that space to store the stuff.

In Texas we don't have basements, but I had many through the years in other homes. Now we have a walk up attic from the second floor which looks like your basement. I hope the ceiling below doesn't cave in on us some day. I would be buried in a sea of rubbermaid tubs. LOL

Love your talking treadmill!!!

Definitely jealous of your storage. It could be much scarier. Our storage area is so dang small and is consumed with all our HALLOWEEN party chaos.

PS. We went skating today on our backyard rink. Pics and video will be on the blog Sunday. How's your rink shaping up? Hugs!

Ha! Glad to see I'm not the only one with a "warehouse" in the basement! Lol That's what my husband calls it anyway. Have fun! ; D

Hi, It is scary cuz I think this looks really neat. We don't have basements here so my stuff is stored all over. Mostly in the two walk in closets in the guest rooms.
As for the exercise room, I think I see a lot of dust in there. Close that door, quickly.
Love to all, Ginger

Hi Diana!

My first thought was actually how organized it all looked, with all of those stacked bins! And my second thought was "Ooh, STORAGE SPACE!" {Our house is very sadly lacking closets!}

Your basement doesn't look scary at all! And you know, even really old homes have attics, and these were often used for storage for odds and ends. I think it is almost a necessity to have some space, whether large or small, for keepsakes or to put decorations you need a break from, etc...

I hope you are having a wonderful beginning to the New Year, and that your Christmas was a blessed one! :)

Blessings,
Jenni

Oh Diana you ain't seen nothin'!!! LOL!
My BEDROOM looks like that! At least it's your basement! We have so littl storage that all my biz stuff is stashed in our room right now. it is compounded by the basement project. Now that the furnace is in I can work on reorganizing our tiny basement room and storing some stuff there again.
And from my experience everyone appreciates seeing real photos!
