Can You Keep A Secret?

Now, I want an honest answer here.
How many of you
SNEAK THINGS INTO THE HOUSE?
C'mon....Come clean!

Speaking of COMING CLEAN-
(see how cleverly I worked that in)
I have been CLEANING CLOSETS!

Yes! I  have!
Look!
Oh!  Wait! THAT IS NOT MY CLOSET!
~sigh~

Instead I will show you
the front hall closet  below.
As you can see, I donated a bed full of stuff .
Now it looks like the picture on the far right.
I did good, huh?

So, what's the secret you want to know?
Well, I may have cleaned my closet out
and donated a bunch of stuff
but THESE dishes followed me home.
Not the red ones but ALL the white ones.
I mixed the red ones in to
confuse SOMEONE!  shhhhhh
They are hiding on the bench
behind the dining room table
AND can only be seen when you walk to the
far end of the dining room.

Lucky for me MyHero rarely leaves his chair!
Uh-huh!

I need to find a more secure hiding
spot soon though- any ideas?
I am running out of cupboard space.

Now-FESS UP-Where do YOU hide things?
Cuz I KNOW you do!!!!!
your photo name

My craft room is my dumping ground. It's where I hide my estate sale finds. It's overflowing. It needs a HUGE cleaning. Actually, we could use some spring cleaning all over the house right now, especially clothing and toys. I think Goodwill will be seeing some donations.

My mom has a size ten foot. When I was a kid, It was hard for her to find cute shoes in her size so when she came across a place that had them in her size, she loaded up. She told the shoe place to keep the boxes and she would sneak them into the house in a small shopping bag or two! I remember this being so shocking to me as a girl! Now I totally understand!

You are sneaky! I don't have a "hiding" place necessarily, I kind of just work stuff into place. Eventually he notices, but by then I can say...Oh, I've had that, about time you notice! lol It all works!

Amy at Ms. Toody Goo Shoes said...

I hide stuff ALL the time -- in the dining room or in the mud room...the basement...whatever! I once brought in all the fixings for Mr. Goo Shoe's surprise birthday party right under his nose, before stashing them away. Trouble is, sometimes I hide stuff and forget about it.

Maria Elena said...

It takes mine a while to notice, so no need to hide it. LOL When days later he finally asks, I just tell him it is something we had for years and it was in the storage closet. I even sound offended that he doesn't remember. Works every time! LOL

Barbara @ 21 Rosemary Lane said...

You are too funny Diana!!! I typically sneak stuff in and then hide it in my bedroom closet. When it finally appears in the open I use the old "I've had that for awhile" phrase to throw MR RL off. Great job on cleaning out the closet and I love your closet's doors!!!
Have a great day!
XO Barbara

Oh, no. I hope YourHero doesn't read your blog! I hide stuff all the time in the garage. And then when I finally clean out my garage it's like Christmas morning.

ooooo, I like those dishes, the trunk of the car when I still drove, lol

Jettie said...

I stop in the garage, as I am coming in, and add it to the collection out there, then he thinks it came from an auction or something, and he''s forgotten it was there.

who doesn't sneak things in? maybe some folks but not me!!! i either put the stuff in my walk in closet (husband has his own) or somewhere else in the house he wouldn't notice. last week i changed up the vignette on our coffee table in the den and it took him DAYS to notice so a lot of times whenever he does notice i use the old line of "we've HAD that"! works most every time.

years ago whenever my BFF and I would go shopping she'd leave her stuff on the side of her long driveway until she could get the stuff in her house. she's also ordered stuff on line from my house and had it shipped to hers telling her husband it was MY stuff!

BTW, Love your closet (in the first pic)...hee-hee.

Jane@Bluebird1959 said...

Ha ha, guilty as charged!!!! I have a wicker trunk in the den, a "holding area" of illicit treasures! Right now there's a quilt, two tablecloths, and a tablerunner!

I used to sneak things in, but now that I am buying with my own money he can't say anything. Sure feels good!

Your new dishes look so pretty (from what I can see of them hiding there!)... and yes, I hide things too... we all do!... I usually leave whatever it is in my car till the right time to bring them in... then I put them in My closet... when I bring them out, if Jack asks, I just say "oh they've been in my closet and I decided to bring them out and use them"... not a lie... and all is well... xoxo Julie Marie

LOL! I love it, Diana. Yes, indeed ... I've been known to sneak a few things into the house, but The Man is so generous (no kidding), that I seldom feel the need to do that anymore. :)

I love, love your white dishes!!

Susie said...

Diana, Great job cleaning that closet and donating things. If my closet looked as nice as the one in your photo, I would sit in there and read. Do men really notice the dishes so much? I think Ted never sees beyond the food on his plate.:):) Hope you do not get more snow...I praying we do not. xoxox,Susie

Haha. I rarely sneak things into the house. They come in packages from Amazon, and that's a dead giveaway. :-) But good for you! And I love the look of all the white. Makes me want to paint something...and maybe even clean something!

Linda said...

Hahaha! My hub is a collector of stuff, too. Mine is carefully stored away, and his is thrown around in the garage. Who can complain? Linda@Wetcreek Blog

I confess, I'm a "sneaker"...ha, ha! Yes, I am! Glad I'm not the only one. ;)

You did good girl, I love a clean, well organized closet. :)

Vee said...

Feel free to polish my halo because this is truly something I have never done. I do remember my mother doing it and I know that John does it. Guess it all depends on whether the husband or the wife is the tyrant. And NOW what am I confessing to?!

Perfectly Printed said...

My hero also sticks pretty close to his home....his home being his spot on the couch and his little office where he grades papers. He would never go past the washer, dryer, pantry and fridge area in the garage. Soooo any place behind there is safe for burying treasures!!

Cheryl @ TFD said...

Oh I can carry things in right under BG's nose and he doesn't notice. Or if he does, he doesn't say anything. I don't think he ever notices the color or pattern of his plate. :)

Penny @ Penny's Vintage Home said...

You can add my name to your long list of sneakers...lol!

Kathy said...

Nope, I never sneak things into the house. Joe and I have our own money, separate bank accounts, and can spend our money in whatever way we please as long as the bills are paid. We always show each other everything. I wish I had closets to clean out. I live in a very old house and there are no closets!

Kim said...

I'm not a sneaker...my mouth is too big! I would feel guilty and spill! That's ok though, I am a really good shopper! ;)

Woooo-hoooooo for cleaning out and donating!!!♡

Mmmmm, could you put up a couple of shelves, in that closet, and hide the dished there?♡ Maybe?♡ Just a possibility....♡

Art and Sand said...

Oh yes, I sneak things into the house. I am looking on a shelf at some white dishes I brought into the house 3 weeks ago that we have yet to use. I think I will sneak them onto the table tonight.

I love the look of those white dishes you found.

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions said...

Well, what kind of woman would I be if I didn't sneak things into the house, Diana! ; ) I love that gorgeous dressing room you pictured. I'd love one of those. I try to blend some things in, like dishes, and sometimes I hope that when I say, "we've had that" it goes unquestioned.

Ruth Kelly said...

Those of us who live alone do not have that problem.

Sarah said...

Too funny! I have a bag of white cabbage leaf dishes sitting in the guest bedroom. ;-)
I've been purging too, but it a slow process. Wow, to have a closet like the one in the photo. If I had that kind of space I wouldn't need to purge.

Jackie See said...

You are so funny! I can not hide anything from my Mr. because I usually have to ask him to carry it in for me!! But I do not touch anything in his garage, or he notices it and gives me that odd look ( a look that is a bit funny and a bit surprised). We purged so much this spring that I feel like we moved in again! Looks good Diana! xxoo back to ya!

Guilty as charged. Random places. Hubby is usually slow to notice new things anyhow. We are all a little on edge here today...a 12 year old little girl went missing not 3 miles from here! I do not know the family personally, but do know many who know her and she attends the same MS that my girls went to earlier on. SCARY!!!

Sue said...

going to TJMaxx???....put old dry cleaning bags in the trunk...use those to bring the new goods into the house and if caught just say...."I picked up the dry cleaning".....works like a charm...

Hi girl, I used to(as in past tense) hide things in my sewing room closet-cause hubby never looked there. I have a friend who would sneek things into her closet and wait awhile, then when he hubby asked when she got the item, she would say-months ago. I love your redware and the white is perfect too.
I've got to pack our toy closet but not yet-kiddos coming over Sat. morning.
Saw your comment on Alleluia's blog-aka Alle, and she needs our encouragement and prayers.
Hugs today.

haha, I don't have to hide things, cause every thing I buy is right in the open for husband to see! You did good job getting rid of a few things. You sound just like me.....whenever I give away some stuff, I feel like I can get a nice item to treat myself. Out with the old, and In with the new has always been my motto. Love your dishes, Diana.

Hi Diana, I'm sure glad you're the one cleaning closets.... not one of my favorite things to do. I have
been at my daughters all day listing the little teddy bears I made this weekend, sure is driving me a
bit (actually alot) Nuts since I don't have a computer.... at least I get to visit with my grands while
I'm here ~ Missing all the Blogging day to day fun
Hope the weather is starting to turn a bit more spring like for you!

I could live in a closet like that! The first one, not your hall closet:) Those dishes are so pretty, bet your Hero wouldn't even notice them if you served his favorite meal on them! Don't you have a secret hiding spot behind one of your paintings? Wait, that is full already, you say? Well, there is always under the bed!!

LostRoses said...

These responses are so funny! I think Kim is right, if you have your own money, no need to sneak things in. Some things never change!

Liz@ HomeandGardeningWithLiz said...

Are you suggesting that all of us angels would do anything so sneaky!!! LOL... Yep I have to admit a few things have slid in the door and made themselves quickly into a closet or such! I'm lucky Dan can't remember all the stuff I have so I usually get away with it! The new dishes look pretty- that is a sneaky way to integrate them! I'll have to remember that one! By the way I love that closet in the first picture! I purge clothing each season. I've gotten pretty good about it too. I know I have too many summer things and a lot of them didn't get used for a while so they're going off to Goodwill.

Diana LaMarre said...

LOL, Diana, I love the white dishes.

I never sneak anything in...if I want it, I just buy it and bring it home. Luckily, there is not that much I want any more.....I, too, have run out of storage space so I am now very choosy about what I bring home. It was much more fun in the early days when I had oodles of storage space to fill! :)

Merlesworld said...

I do it all the time, and when the beer fairy looks at something with a puzzled look on his face and says where did that come from, I just smile and say we have had it for years.

Lisa @ Texas Decor said...

Ah yes...the "sneak and hide" I've gotten pretty good at that over the years! Lol! I don't think hubby minds when I buy new stuff, but for some reason, I still feel the need to sneak stuff in. Ha! My favorite hiding spot is in the far back corner of my closet. Shhh...

lynn said...

Hahaha. I do it all the time too. Anything craft I hide for a while because husband says I have to much and he is right so he leaves me no choice but to hide. If that doesn't work I will say my daughter brought it for me. If he asks how much something is I always give a figure that is way less then it really was.

RURAL said...

You always make me laugh...will he figure it out when he eats off of them?

What Hero doesn't know won't hurt him....that's my take on it. I hide stuff all the time. I hide new running clothes (ordered from I-net) in my closet until I have time to try them on. If it's chocolate...I hide it behind something in the fridge. But, the hubs always finds that. Then he asks, "Whose chocolate is this?" LOL!! So I say, I bought it for you. But dishes, hmmmm. Maybe the top shelf of the closet you just cleaned.

Well, Once in awhile I used to leave a thing or two in the trunk of my car until the hubs had gone to work, but only a few times. Now, of course, since hubby passed away, I only hide chocolate from my son :) What Are you going to do with all those lovely dishes? Actually Love the red ones!!

camp and cottage living said...

I do see the white peeking through, Diana! Who can go to a re-sale shop and then come home empty handed anyway?
I don't hide-honest. My hubby doesn't seem to care what I buy,. Probably because I'm so cheap-I mean I don't spend much!

Lol, I tend to sneak candy in because of the kids! My husband does too :) I too go through closets regularly to clean out things, but it never seems often enough. I dislike clutter in my house, but as a homeschooling mom with 4 kiddos still living here, we make far too many piles :) Thank you again for checking on me.
Blessings,
