FRIDAY'S THIS OR THAT----FLASHBACK TO THE 60s--WHAT WE WORE

Oh, I know that some of you

are TOO YOUNG to remember the '60s
But for many of us it was a time of
New freedoms~
New music,
New hairdos and
NEW CLOTHING STYLES

Twiggy was one of the first ones
that brought us the
MINI DRESS!
I had a dress almost identical to this in navy blue
and wore it with ORANGE SHOES.
I thought I was SOOO cool.
The town I lived in thought I was scandalous!
I think it was the first mini-skirt
they had ever seen.
That's would be me-
always causing a ruckus of some kind...
just ask my mother..never mind...
she's in Heaven.

The 1960's also brought us
BELL BOTTOMS
image
You were totally hip in those
especially if you wore them with one of
THESE TOPS!
image

There were hippie clothes-
The SHORT of it looked like this~
image
That mighta been me...oh wait..
my Go-go boots were white!

The LONG of the 60's looked like this:
A Gunne Sax dress that some of us wore:
Were we grown girls playing
Little House On The Prairie?

Some of us wore
TIE-DYED pieces
Some of us would have DIED
to be caught in tie dye.
I, for one, never owned a single piece of tie-dye!

Some of us were preppy in the 60's
Yes-it's true- I had this dress!
image

POP ART clothing POPPED UP here and there-
image
I would have worn something
like this to church
on Sunday
(after hiding my mini dress in the back of the closet)
image
Somehow,
I always envied this woman's
class and style.
image
And while the beautiful Jacqueline Kennedy
had someone that dressed like this-
image

The ones that looked like THIS
are the ones that usually found me!

Was I lucky, or what?
What?

LOL! This was certainly a blast from the past! Although maybe I'm a little older than you...I'm not sure...our town (and parents) were very conservative, and we still had dress codes at school, so the mini skirts were not allowed at school for sure! By the time I graduated from H.S. my skirts were getting pretty short, but not quite to the extreme of Twiggy. I really didn't get into the Bell Bottoms, etc., until the 70's., but by then I was married and having babies, so my style was determined by maternity tops and bottoms/dresses that were designed to try and conceal the fact that you were "expecting", at least until it could be concealed no longer because you were carrying an almost 10 lb. baby! LOL. Back then NO self-respecting lady would've worn the tight fitting snug "maternity outfits" of today that show every bulge of the belly as it grows. THAT would have been "scandalous". LOL. So times have certainly changed in fashion...some for the better, and some, well...not too sure what they are. This was fun. You found some great outfits to share. I do remember having a string of "love beads" that I wore with my shortest dress I could get away with. LOL. Thanks for the memories.

Those were the best days...to be young and dressing like Lilly Pulitzer and college days of plaid skirts and knee socks....cardigans and pearls....it was marvelous wasn't it?

I remember so very well. Did many of those. I have one dress I made back then - and I can't believe how crazy short it is. Surprised mom ever let me out of the house. LOL
Many things are going around again, and the girls think they are really starting something new. Been there and done that.

Oh, I loved Gunne Sax dresses! Still do. It's called Bohemian now. I remember always matching my shoes exactly to my outfit. I was kind of a fashionista then.....now I just want to be comfortable. Old Navy is more my style! AnnMarie

Well, I was just a wee girl in the 60’s so my momma dressed me. I’m a twin so identical dresses for us (even though we don’t look alike) and if they were store bought, they usually came in pink and blue and I always got stuck with the pink one. Which I might add looked horrible with my complexion. My twin would have looked better in the pink and me in the blue but for some reason, Mom thought otherwise. Lol. But I remember my oldest sister trying to wear mini dresses and the arguments about that! So funny to think about.
I bet you still have that ornery streak, lol. But I won’t judge. I might be known for my hardheadedness, um, determination. 😂 Have a great weekend, my friend!

If it wasn't for Land's End, I would probably walk around in my pajamas. I remember when I used to dress cute... those were the days!

I remember those so well. I also wore hot pants and gauchos. I remember twiggy and her incredible lashes. Bell bottomed pants were fun. Let’s not forget the hair styles too. I cannot understand schools letting girls wear crop tops to school. A fun post Diana. Happy weekend. XO

I had white go go boots that I just loved. I wish I would have known about the purple ones. Those were fabulous. I had bell bottom jeans that I wore all the time too. Fun times for sure. Happy Friday sweet friend. Hugs. Kris

I was aged 3-12 in the decade of the 1960s so I was too young really to wear any of those iconic styles, alas. My classic 60s fashions for kids that I did have were black patent leather mary janes (for church and dress up), a crinoline (briefly until I refused to wear that scratchy damn thing any more) and a cute "pedal pushers" ensemble. Oh, and a set of baby doll pyjamas.

Lol- platform shoes, studs, cut offs, flowers on everything
there was so much going on back then- and most people mixed it all up. My guys were dressed like that, too. I understand.

I always thought J. Kennedy was classy too.
Thanks for the memories.
We had such good times back then - the clothes were wild and so colorful and fun.

I lived in the epicenter of the hippie movement in San Francisco. Everyone dressed liked that in different degrees. My dad had the long sideburns and let his hair grow to this collar and my mom wore her skirts and dresses short - not as short as I did. My parents were only in their mid 30's back then.
Fun post, Diana.

How fun are you?! Tho' I bore little resemblance to most of these fashions (strict parents), I remember longing to eat enough AIDS to lose weight and look like Twiggy. Ha!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! The Seventies were not my era for clothes---just shorts and Ts at home and a great array of three double-knit sheath minis (knee length for me) that I wore to church. I've told the story of my white mini-dress, made by my mother, and worn on a company trip to Washing, where I was called out at dinner in a vast ballroom of conventioneers to go onstage and smoke a Muriel with Miss Edie Adams. That dress was NOT made to be viewed from hem-level.

I just loved the picture I saw the other day of a young woman of that day wearing one or another of your snazzy outfits and captioned, "YOU will NEVER be as cool as your GRANDMA was."

At our school we weren't allowed to wear mini skirts or anything shorter than an inch above the knee. Technically. But my skirts kept getting shorter and shorter... Boys weren't allowed to wear Beatles haircuts. I wore the headscarf around my head, the sheer sleeves, the pop art dresses. Also gauchos and hot pants (on weekends). And a short curly wig, with headscarf. I wore false eyelashes (like Twiggy) once and hated them. They kept coming loose.

When I was 7 years old I got a pair of white Go Go boots for Christmas and thought I'd die of happiness. We have a pic of me sitting in front of the tree HUGGING them. And another of them with me in black tights, pink and green striped knit mini dress and those go go boots at our Brownie group pic. Me in the middle daring to be different and only one of about 40 girls not wearing her uniform. I hated that uniform and always wanted to dress in style. I am laughing so hard at this post and my memories at those pics. I swear I wore those boots till they fell apart, I was so trying to be like the teens my older siblings were then. My sis had a best friend who wore frosted white lipstick and large pink metal hoop earrings to this day I remember ADORING. She was SO COOL. I begged mom to let me piece my ears but she made us wait till we were 18 and hated hated hated we got ours pierced. She didn't think it proper. I think of it a lot as I put on my earrings. She'd never ever have appreciated all the piercings and tattooing of the young these days. But I digress. Happy weekend, doll. ♥
