UPDATE ON LIZA AND MYSELF AND HUBBY

 FIRST OF ALL-

THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU THAT PRAYED

FOR SWEET LITTLE LIZA!

SHE CAME THROUGH THE SURGERY

AND IS DOING WELL.

THE SURGERY WAS A BIG UNDERTAKING

AND IT WILL TAKE HER A LONG TIME

TO RECOVER.

SHE IS IN GOOD SPIRITS AND DEALING

WITH THE CHANGES IN HER LIFE.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO KEEP HER

IN YOUR PRAYERS.

SEVERAL OF YOU HAVE REACHED OUT TO ME

TO SEE HOW I AM DOING.

THE TRUTH IS,

I HAVE HAD A RECURRENCE OF AN OLD

AUTO-IMMUNE ISSUE.

THE FIRST TIME I HAD THIS WAS IN 1993.

I WAS IN BED FOR ALMOST 6 MONTHS

UNABLE TO MOVE WITHOUT A LOT OF PAIN.

OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS I HAVE HAD

A FEW LITTLE 'BLIPS' BUT HAVE ALWAYS

GOT IT UNDER CONTROL BEFORE IT GOT TOO BAD.

NOT SO THIS TIME.

THE FIRST WEEK IN FEBRUARY IT HIT ME HARD-

IT STARTED IN MY RIGHT FOOT AND IT

SWELLED TO ALMOST DOUBLE ITS NORMAL SIZE.

I COULD NOT BEAR ANY WEIGHT ON IT

WITHOUT EXCRUCIATING PAIN.

I HAVE A WONDERFUL DOCTOR THAT  HAS DONE

HIS BEST TO HELP.

I HAVE BEEN ON ANTI-INFLAMMATORIES

AND STEROIDS SINCE THEN.

I THINK I AM TURNING THE CORNER BUT

STILL HAVING A HARD TIME WALKING

OR BENDING AND SLEEPING IS AN

ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TASK.

I AM NOT TELLING YOU THIS TO ASK FOR

SYMPATHY BUT AS A REASON I HAVE NOT

BEEN AROUND VISITING MUCH.

I WILL TELL YOU THAT I AM A LOT BETTER

CARETAKER

THAN I AM AT BEING THE CARETAKEREE...

YEP-NOT A REAL WORD BUT YOU GET IT.

I HOPE TO BE BACK TO MY USUAL SASSY SELF SOON.

YOU KNOW THEY CAN'T KEEP US OLD BROADS

DOWN FOR LONG.

SO-BEAR WITH ME AS I CONTINUE TO RECOVER.

SEVERAL OF YOU HAVE ALSO ASKED ABOUT

HUBBY'S TRIP TO MAYO.

WE WERE GIVEN SOME ANSWERS THAT HAVE HELPED

AND A SEMI-DIAGNOSIS.

THE NEUROLOGIST HERE AND AT MAYO SAID IT

IS ONE OF THE MOST COMPLEX CASES

THEY HAVE EVER SEEN AND HE FALLS INTO

SEVERAL (OR NONE) OF THE USUAL CATEGORIES.

I AM STILL HIS PRIMARY CARETAKER-

WHICH, LET ME TELL YOU, HAS BEEN FUN

WITH MY OWN HEALTH ISSUES.

(I MIGHT HAVE LIED ABOUT THE FUN PART).

HE IS IN BED ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME AND I

DON'T SEE THAT CHANGING MUCH.

SO--AS USUAL--

WE SLOG ALONG DAY BY DAY HERE.

THERE YOU HAVE IT-

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF NANA DIANA AND COMPANY.

IT'S TIMES LIKE THESE THAT I WISH I DRANK....LOL

INSTEAD I HAVE BECOME ADDICTED TO MEDICAL SHOWS

AND HAVE BEEN BINGE WATCHING THEM

SINCE EARLY FEBRUARY.

I THINK WITH WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

I COULD PROBABLY APPLY FOR A MEDICAL LICENSE

AND MOVE DIRECTLY INTO THE SURGICAL FIELD.

LET ME KNOW IF I CAN HELP YOU WITH

ANY OF YOUR MEDICAL NEEDS.

HAVE A WONDERFUL MARCH AND WISHING YOU AN EARLY

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

From what you learned you might know more than most doctors at this point. My husband was sick awhile back and I know what it's like to have them in bed most of the time. He is not there anymore but trying to find answers from doctors was a bit of a trick. I'm glad your doctor for you is good. Sending well wishing to all three of you.

So sorry to hear that you've been having some health issues, yourself. Hope you continue to recover and best wishes for your husband, too.

I am so sorry to hear this about both you and your hubby...Auto immune diseases are terrible...My nephew is having similar issues and has had to take a desk job so he could continue to work...It is not easy being a caretaker and I think the story of Gene Hackman and his wife shines the light on such a thing..My sister took care of her husband for 8 years before he passed away last year from alzheimer's and prostate cancer that spread.....She had cameras all over her house because he was mobile pretty much up until she brought hospice in and would get OOB and wander and fall while she tried to sleep...Sending hugs and prayers for both of you...You have my email if you ever need to "talk"
Hugs,

Glad for Liza but sorry to hear your own health is not good right now, along with your husband's continuing medical issues. Sending everyone healing energy! I hope you feel better soon.

...Diana, for weeks I've felt shabby for not checking in you! It's nice to see you post even if your family's health new is concerning. You and John are in my prayers. I have a similar problem with my right foot, perhaps we are twins. Take care and be well and thanks for your continued concern for LIza. On Monday, she starts her 33 radiation treatments.

So sorry to hear of your health battles. I know about autoimmune issues as I have my own. I am blessed to have a healthy husband! I am sure the stress you have been under has contributed to your ills. Glad that Liza is on the mend. Prayers for you all. Love and hugs, Debbie W

I know you make a great caretaker...what we used to say a Nurse! But I'm sorry you are suffering with so many heath problems too. I pray for you all as I know you pray for me and my sweet hubby. Take care and try not to worry. Sweet hugs, Diane

Good Morning sweet friend. You have been through so much but still have your sense of humor that is a big part of what we all love about you. Being a caregiver is probably the hardest responsibility and job next to being a mom. I know this is not what retirement was supposed to be for you and John but you have dealt with everything with such Grace and humor. Life can be so sloppy and hard sometimes. I wish I lived closer to help you but I know you have a great son and daughter near that will pitch in for you too. John has a beautiful and loving caregiver at his side. He is so blessed to have you in his life. I know you love him and will give him the best care. You have your two fur babies to give you comfort and care. Love you. Kris

Diana, thank you for the update on Liza, so young and fragile. Wishing her a quick recovery. I am so sad to hear you are suffering from autoimmune disease. So glad to hear the doctor is there to treat you and provide the proper meds you need to recover. I cannot imagine the pain you are experiencing in addition to caring for John. Life is not always fair. I wish I lived closer to give you a helping hand. Let’s pray you feel so much better very soon. Much love and prayers.🙏🙏🙏❤️

I was so glad to hear about dear Liza and that the surgery went well. I hope she heals quickly and nicely. It's good that you got some answers about your husband's health too. I'm so sorry to hear about your own health issues at this time. And taking care of another person while you're not feeling well must be so hard for you. I hope you are able to walk and move around with each new day. I always think about you around St. Patrick's Day. You are one of the fortunate ones to be Irish hehehe.

Take care, dear Diana, and thanks for the update.

Oh D - praise be to God on the good news of Liza. As for your health concerns, and of course your hubby's - you will always be in my prayers. So sorry you are suffering. Auto-immune stuff is insane - just no cure and no understanding of it! It is tricky, for sure. :-( From one Irish lass to another - wishing a better ST Pat's for you. Slainte, good friend. Hugs and love. ♥

Hi Diana

I am sending you all tons of prayers and hugs. I know it's tough having an autoimmune disease. And yes, us old broads keep fighting no matter what. Stay strong!!!

Ginny Hartzler said...

Oh, I am SO sorry!!! So I have many questions, but only answer me when you feel up to it. First, it is so good to see you! What is your auto-immune disease? And what were the semi-diagnoses your husband got? Did they do anything at all to help him? I know steroids shut down your immune system, so am hoping they will continue to help a lot. We have always watched all the medical shows there are (almost!). Even the documentaries about E.R. traumas.

So sorry to hear that you've been having health issues. Hope you recover soon. Please take care and it was wonderful seeing this update.

Pleased to hear that things are moving in the right direction for Liza, also that there have been chinks of light for your husband after all the problems and uncertainty. Let's hope that it will be the start of enlightenment and perhaps even effective treatment. Obviously not good news to hear that you have been suffering as well. I know that auto-immune conditions can be both debilitating and at times very difficult to manage. I know you are soldiering on but hope that things will become much easier for you very soon. Let it be so!

I'm so sorry you've been ill. Wishing you a speedy return to health. Glad you have some answers regarding hubby's health issues. Hopefully this is at least a small positive step forward.

Oh my, you certainly do have a full plate. May God give you increased strength and endurance and grace for the days ahead. I am glad to hear that you are doing better, but still you have a lot to do when not feeling well yourself. Sending you gentle (((hugs))). I must confess that I have not followed Liza's story, so I need to go back and see what I can find. I am glad she is doing better, but it sounds serious and I pray that God will bring her healing and courage and renewed strength for her days ahead. God is able.

So sorry to hear about the health issues. Not fun when you are also being caretaker to someone else with health issues.
So how long before you earn your medical degree from watching those shows? I have always liked those. Two of my current favorites are Chicago Med and Doc

I am so so behind (due to my own health issues since Nov.) and this is the first I'm learning about all this. I am about to go back and catch up on your blog posts. I am so very sorry you are having to deal with all this. The GOLDEN YEARS don't seem to be so golden...so many of us "more mature" folks seem to have a lot of issues to deal with. I pray that you continue to have the positive spirit you always have. I will also pray for much better days ahead for you, hubby, and sweet granddaughter.

I am so sorry that you are having health concerns, along with everyone else in your bubble. Thanks for sharing with us, Diana, because prayers can be redirected to include you as well as your loved ones. Thank you for the updates. Love and prayers coming your way.

Oh, boy! Have you watched The Pitt yet on HBO? I'm 7 episodes in and loving it. Noah Wyle is being sued because the show was originally pitched as an update to ER; however, I don't feel as if I'm watching ER continued. Keep watching your shows and take it as easy as you can. I'm glad the little one is recovering. We all miss you and will be glad to see you when you can return to us.

Love,
Janie

It’s good to about Liza even though she has a long way to go. She’s young and resilient.
So sorry to hear of you and your husband’s health issues.

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart full of love and compassion for Diana and her husband during this challenging time of ill health. I ask for Your healing touch upon their bodies, knowing that You are the Great Physician who cares deeply for Your children.

Amen!

Oh Diana, I am so sorry. I understand better than most. What type of autoimmune issue do you have? I know how hard it is to operate with pain and fatigue issues. I suffer with fatigue that goes with Fibro, then you add meds to fight the issue, it adds fatigue along with that. Plus, I have apnea and along with that I have what they call CPAP Residual, I have to take meds to stay away. Upon changing those meds to fit in with Medicare, we are having issues getting the dose correct and all I want to do is sleep. With all that, I just want to say, I understand and I hope you are up and doing better soon.

Oh, I am glad that Liza is doing much better! However, I am so sorry that you have been so unwell! I don't doubt a bit that you are now a medical expert after watching all those doctor shows! You are one brilliant lady! Now, you are always asking prayers for other people, I am asking for everyone to pray for YOU and for your husband too. I will be with that prayer chain too! Take care, and please let us know who you are doing. xx
