The Cancer Carousel- Round and Round We Go. Update #3

I just want to keep you all updated.
Please do not feel you have to
leave me comments.
You are more than welcome to do that
but if you just want to come and read
that is perfectly okay.

I know EVERYONE is busy-
especially after the beginning of a
NEW YEAR!

I just know y'all are dieting and exercising
and taking piano lessons
and learning to paint and...
OH-WAIT!
That was LAST WEEK!
Now it is time for the
REAL NEW YEAR
to kick in!

So- I have discovered that  this journey
into cancer is like being on a
CAROUSEL!
The Cancer Carousel!
You go round and round and round-
sometimes feeling dizzy from all
the information thrown at you-
sometimes feeling a bit disoriented
after all the procedures needed
for effective treatment.

Here's where we are on
The Cancer Carousel..
We are on the innermost horses
trying to work our way out to the outer edge
so we can hop off this
Merry-go-round.

As of yesterday, MyHero, John
had a feeding tube put in
(yes-that is a good thing)
and a port for chemo/blood work
and they did a few more biopsies on his throat.
Close your eyes here if you are squeamish.
I OFFERED
to rig up a feeding
tube for him.
I found a great one on eBay
but he didn't seem too excited about it
so I let it go.
I think it is still available in case
you have someone that is not
quite as fussy about those things as
MyHero is!
They are trying to find the primary source
of the cancer-thus the other biopsies.
IF they can pinpoint that,
the area of radiation will be smaller-
smaller area-less damage.

Starting a week from Monday
he will have 37 days of radiation in a row
(weekends off)
Every Monday he will have chemo.
On the days he feels he can do so
he will go for physical therapy for
mild strength training.

The Cancer Carousel
continues to turn
and we are just waiting to grab the
GOLD RECOVERY RING
at the end.
It will be worth the ride
at the end!
Thank you ALL for your continued
prayers and support.
You're the best!
Love you guys!

Was just going to email you. Jennifer had asked if I had any updates. All are continuing to pray. Katie met with her first two patients. Both survivors of throat/neck cancer. One very personable and with a quick wit, the other retired Marine and all business!! I would think John would be the former!! She is learning all about feeds. Will be in the hospital or nursing homes in the next few weeks. Your story has really touched her heart and made her understand more of why she is doing what she is.

Diana,

I had no idea you, John and your family were dealing with all of this the past few weeks (I scrolled back). These are the times I REALLY feel bad that i've fallen behind on blogging. You are very special to me and you've been very supportive at times when I was faltering. Forgive me.

I pray John makes it through the radiation and chemo with flying colors. And I pray that you stay as strong as you always are and take some time for yourself now and again.

Sending love and big hugs and I will get my blogging act together soon. :( Gulp!

Thanks for the update Diana. The Carousel is a good metaphor for cancer treatment and I used the Roller Coaster metaphor for the ups and down of before and after treatments.
I guess humour is as good as anything to cope in this situation. That feeding tube looks like it would do the job...

Kidding aside, I'm keeping you and your hero in my prayers.

I'll be praying specifically that the Dr's will be able to pinpoint the exact location of the cancer-so they can treat it effectively. Your poor hubby doing radiation and chemo at the same time. Praying for God's healing hand upon him, strength for the journey(I remember learning so much about cancer going through the journey with my sis), grace and Hope. Oh, Diana, John is in my thoughts and prayers every day. I know that "round and round you go" feeling. It's always such a good idea to have your spouse or someone close to be with you at all those crazy appointments. I know when I had my first appt., I must have had that "deer in the headlights" look, because they kept asking if I was okay....."seriously, no, I'm not all right," but my hubby was there taking it all in. I'm having my 2nd phase of this wild ride on Tuesday....the surgery; and then a few weeks after that, Phase 3 and radiation will start. I know at this point, you and John are finding it hard to see the end, but it will come. I received a little gift from the chemo nurses after my final dose, and the little card that was attached is truly the gift. It said: "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have." There was no reference to the author, but it has become my mantra. I hope the words might also help you and John.

Warm hugs and good blessings to you both'

I love the analogy of the merry go round with how you're dealing with the cancer treatment. It made so much sense to me. I even shared your post with my husband. I also laughed at your feeding tube offering. Ha! It's good that you can still have your sense of humor through all of this. Between that and your faith, it will save your sanity! I would be a scared, weepy mess going through all of that. I'm such a sensitive person about everything! I try not be, but it's just who I am. I think that's why I could never work in the medical field. It would be hard to detach from people and treat them with out getting emotional. I love reading about your husbands progress and will love it more when he can go into remission and your life can get back to normal. Y'all deserve to have a happy life with all that y'all do for others!!!

Thank you for your up-date on John and you. Keeping you in prayer for good results. John is able to have help.

Sids sister has gone home to the Lord. Sid and I and family are heading up on the 18th for Service for Lola's passing. It was too late to help Lola.

Lola could not be helped. The cancer was too far spread into her body. She did have some humor in the end and then the last of peace knowing the Lord Jesus as her Savior. She then wanted to go.

Sending thoughts and prayers your way. And you please don't feel you need to comment back to me, since you have much more important things on your mind and in your hands. He shouldn't have side effects from radiation but chemo can be debilitating. Hopefully he will tolerant it and it will not deplete him so. Stay strong and we have 10 days before we find out with hubs.
