I did a post about this a year or two ago.
Several people said
they had never seen anything like it.
I thought I would post before it
gets any later in the season
gets any later in the season
in case you want make these for
your own home.
I have been doing this since my
own kids were small.
I have been doing this since my
own kids were small.
You know how a front door says
WELCOME
when you come in?
Those sleigh bells are off the horses my
father drove as a young man.
So -there's my
Happy Hello!
BUT I like my door to say
GOOD-BYE
when someone leaves, too.
And I like to say it NICELY
How do I do that?
I let my visitors take a little memento
of their visit with them.
It is called
Cut and Run Take
Here they are my sweet little
GINGERBREAD BOYS
hanging in a row.
Here's how to make this sweet little door hanging.
Roll out Saran Wrap about 2 feet longer
than the side of your door.
Lay your Gingerbread Boys in a line
on the center of the plastic wrap.
leaving about 4-6" between them.
You could also do this with any sturdy
cookie- like a sugar cookie cut
like a snowflake or star.
Flip them upside down making sure that they
are still in the center
Pull the plastic wrap to the back
overlapping it so they are enclosed
all the way around.
Gently flip them over and using ribbon
tie a knot above and below EACH one.
Hang some children's scissors on
some curly ribbon from the top
to cut the saran wrap.
When you cut them apart
you will cut between the ribbons
leaving each one fully encased in plastic wrap.
Here I am making a cut between the ties.
You start with the bottom one and
each person can cut off a gingerbread boy
to take along when they leave.
I hung them on a nail hidden on top of the door jamb.
I dressed the top with some greenery and red balls.
I love Gingerbread Boys, don't you?
Sometimes I feel sorry for them though.
Poor things.

The one on the right hears about like
MyHero does-especially when it comes
to trying to get a chore done!
Now- get in that kitchen and start baking!
As for me..
I will be pushing the gingerbread "boys"
around at the VA this morning
and then meeting my good friend,
Ellie Mae Clampett for coffee
and a few laughs
Have a great Tuesday!

Diana, I am almost a cookie monstrer...so I might have to hang a row of cheese and crackers.....cause I would probably be cutting down a gingerbread boy every day. Hope you have a fun time with your friend. Be safe. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
Such a cute idea! Love it! And haven't ever seen it anywhere else! Enjoy your day!
Super cute. I remember when you shared this last time and I swore I was going to do this...and I didn't! ;) Maybe this year!!
Aww I love your cute gingerbread boys Diana!! What a fun and cute idea.
I hope you have a wonderful day and week. Julie xo
That is the cutest idea ever..... I intended to do that at my front door the last time you showed us...never did! This year for sure....hugs...
You impress me as well as your sleigh bells from your father to the very cute gingerbread cookies. I have to say my husband hears like that guy too. Your home is just beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the best ideas I've ever seen. Brilliant actually! I actually bought a set of sleigh bells but they aren't the real thing. They are a reproduction and every time the door opens my dog nearly has a heart attack! I love the sound though. Hopefully she will get used to it. Blessings to you Diana...happy holidays!
Oh Diana,
I love that you incorporated your father's sleigh bells to your wreath and that gingerbread boy idea is so original...I love it! Thanks for sharing. Happy December my friend.
Hugs,
❤️Ana

What a cute idea!
I remember this post and loved the idea! Problem is, I'm sure the cookies would break. I'm just not a baker. I love the old sleigh bells. What a treasure!
This is one of my favorite ideas! So easy and yummy too. I still have a one legged gingerbread man ornament on my tree that my now 16 year old ate (right off the tree) when he was 1! It's one of our favorite ornaments. :) Enjoy your day!
What a fantastic idea Diana - and beautiful too !
I've never seen anything like it but just love the idea of a gift on the way out !
xox
That is a very sweet idea! And there's time to do it this year! Thanks for posting it early. We have some old sleigh bells from my husband's grandparent's farm that I like to hang up each year. They make a lovely ring when the door is in motion.
Adorei seu blog, por isso eu
vou segui-lo.
Siga o meu também, vai!
Beijos e bom natal.

This is such a cute idea Diana... I am not that creative but I like this... what a sweet thing to do for the people that visit you around the holidays xox

What a great idea! I love it :) You are the "Hostess with the Most-est...for sure!
Brilliant idea Di but I cannot stand the taste of Gingerbread's. I do like your Welcome and your good bye. The door closes both ways. Now it it was shortbread.
I would eat you out of house and home my Mom used to say.
What an adorable idea!
I missed this last year, Diane, so glad you posted it again. Love it!
Hi, This is such a cute idea. Makes your guests feel special. My problem is that I would be the one to eat them all! lol
What a cute idea!! I love it! I usually make gingerbread men as part of my cookie making but I wasn't going to this year. I have cut way back on the baking and I am the only one that eats them. I just may have change my mind and do this for New Years Day, when we have a few friends over. So cute!!
What a sweet idea...I'm afraid if I i that they'd be pretty stale by the time I had enough traffic..Very cute..Thanks for the laughs DIana..I can always count on you..
What a cute idea! I've never seen this done before and it makes both a cute decoration and sweet gift.
Hi Diana, I've always loved this idea you do. So glad you shared it again. Love it.Happy December! xo

xoxo laurie
Oops! I am behind schedule baking my gingerbread men! This is such a cute idea! xo Nellie
How very creative and clever! I'm sure your guests love it!
Love your wreath and the bells. That gingerbread cookie idea is great.
I have the cookie cutters in the other picture. Mine is a set of 3, one with a missing head, one a missing arm and one a missing leg. A friend sent them to me for my granddaughter because we made gingerbread cookies. (That friend died just a couple months before my mom so it is even more special to keep up the tradition of making them).
i do remember that cute and delicious idea!
i dearly love your front door and window. ♥
How cute is that?!!
Love that idea!!
Now I just need to make some friends here so I'll have someone to come visit me!
Love the idea. :-)
My boys keep asking me when we are going to bake Christmas cookies. :-)
That is a cute idea! If I get some energy going I may try it for my party on Dec 19th! Or you could cook them for me and do it! Hmmmm????
Great idea. I missed this post last year, so I'm glad you posted it again.
what a great idea. This year will be a quiet Christmas but that would be a nice thing to do for any occassion. Hmmmmm a box with small gifts in it, or a toy chest for kids to grab something on the way out.
I enjoyed visiting your blog again. I have been slow lately busy sewing. So I am doing the rounds now so to speak.
Hugs Janice
I remember that post and it's a wonderful idea. Don't have enough company to do something like that.
warmly,
deb
I don't think I've ever had a real gingerbreadman outside of the little debbie version
Seriously I wish I was leaving your home right now so I could walk outside nibbling my gingerbread cookie! Its a great idea! I also thinks it a great way to get some to leave too, you know give them a reason to want to leave :-{
I totally remember this post from last year and am so glad you re-shared it because I am going to do this, this weekend! So much fun! Be Blessed! Cindy xoxo
Hi Diana, what a sweet and wonderful idea! Love it. XO Jo
This is an adorable idea...I'm going to try it!! Do you have a good recipe for gingerbread? Mine is always crumbly!!

I remember those from last Christmas, Diana. Really a great idea but so far I haven't made any. But, I'm hoping to!! xo Judy
This is just a brilliant idea Diana! I would copy you but I personally like to verbally tell someone about the door hitting them in specific places. Nah not really. but I am definitely pinning this one for next year when our renos are all done....hopefully! Cheers.
I love this idea! I even have windows on each side of my front door like yours. I just don't have many visitors! Maybe I could just do some kind of banner. You're giving me all kinds of ideas! Have FUN! Hugs, Diane
This is such a crazy awesome idea!!!
This is such a sweet idea, and I LOVE GINGERBREAD! The kids must have fun taking one of the wrapped gingerbread when they leave your house. You are such a fun grandma, Diana.
~Sheri
oh yes, there's something about the gingerbread that makes us feel sorry for them. They are so darn cute and we don't want to eat them, but so yummy at the same time. : )
Oh my gosh, what a great idea!
I want to come to your house...right now...'cause now I am craving gingerbread! ;)
You are the hostess with the mostess...because cookies are better than anything!
Hugs, Kimberley
I remember this one, too. So damn cute.
I remember seeing this and thanks so much for the reminder! I plan to bake tomorrow ~ at least get a start on the things I enjoy doing. I love this idea!

That is an awesome idea! I think I'd enjoy being a guest at your house (even if I did have to leave). Neat that the sleigh bells have been in the family!
What a great idea!!

I love this idea and wanted to make them before but never got around to it. Must do it this year because it is a great treat and decoration!
