NEW WORD WEDNESDAY

Today's word is not just
ONE WORD.
Today's words are a take
on how kids perceive things.

My oldest son was pretty literal
when he was little.
Sorry-the albums are in the basement
but here is what he looks like today.
He is SOOO going to hate this....shhhhh....
He'll never even know it's here!
He has been minus the mustache for a while now...
like I said---shhhhhh
When he was four he was watching
the news with my brother, Charlie.

He came running into the kitchen
yelling for me to
"Come watch this, Mom.
You won't BELIEVE this".

THREE GORILLAS ARE
CHANGING THE TIRES
ON A BIG AIRPLANE.
WHAT?
What?

What........
I go into the living room and my dear brother
is chuckling to himself.

"What is he talking about?" I ask dumbly

Just what he said, Di!
THREE GUERRILLAS
HIGH-JACKED A JUMBO JET!
This was back in the late 70's
when planes were being hijacked..
long before all the precautions were
in place that we have today.

S0-anyway-
That is what the kid heard.
GUERRILLAS= GORILLAS
HIJACK= JACKING UP
The simple reason is
to change the tires on a big plane!
Right?

Don't you wonder just what else
kids
DON'T REALLY GET
that we never know about?

Next time I might just tell you about
MyHero and his Uncle LEAD.
You are gonna LOVE that one!

Happy JULY FIRST!
Have a great Wednesday.
I am counting down to the
Fourth of July here!!!!

Just like my daughter.... funny story. We were driving with all the family and passed a cemetary. Pretty flowers surrounding a gravesite under a tent. My daughter says to everyone.... look they just planted someone! Ohmagah!!!! I still think of that everytime I pass a cemetary with a tent.

I love that story! My favorite thing about little boys is how literal they are, their logic, and lack of fear - exhibited by the first very "male" line - "But mommy, you didn't tell me I couldn't" (insert your own line here) put the cat in the dryer, throw firecrackers at the dog, crawl underneath the deck and find the crawl space under the house....

O, I just loooove little boys....:)

So true!!! What do kids really understand???

One of our grandsons was having an awful time, learning to swim... Even being in the pool.

One day he said to his grandfather; "I don't know how I;m going to learn to breathe, under water." 'Pop' set him straight. He didn't have to breathe under water. Just hold his breath, for bits of time. :-)

Poor little kid! Never forgot that...

You definitely gotta watch what you say around kids. That is hilarious and very clever, even though he took it literally. You probably have a big collection of kids' sayings. Happy July to you!
On the word hijack, every time I see our sweet Jack, I say Hi, Jack and that bad word comes to mind. :-(

Cute! I remember my nephew and me taking a car ride one day. (he is going to be 40...so you know how long ago that was!!!). And he opened the car door while I was driving. I looked back and he had tears in his eyes and he said, Aunt Teresa I am not crying, I am washing my eyes!
I still feel bad that he didn't think that it was ok to cry.

Ha Ha Ha....oh my...we have a few of those ourselves. Myk in 2 1/2 ~ we are having a deacons meeting in the living room. Diaper only he walks into the living room with one of my tampons in his mouth with the string hang down, and says to the deacons..."I smokin" I died a thousand deaths..but the men thought it was hilarious. Go figure.

I love the beauty of little children. One minute I am the worse Grandma in the world and then I am the Best Grandma in the world. Some days I really worry about what the world is teaching these sweet spirits. Teaching my grands in my home is the best combatant that I can do for them. Hopefully they will make good choices. So glad you little son thought it was the cute little gorillas. lol Have a lovely day sweetie. Jo

Good memories!!!!!!!!!!! Happy 4th of July this weekend.

Oh that is so funny! I have to say that reminds me of something my husband and I recently talked about. He said he remembered when he was a little boy that when they said on the news "geurilla warfare" that meant people were fighting gorillas! Ha Ha! We were kids in the 70's too. So, I can completely understand your son saying that.

Adam said...

those would have been some smart gorillas

Haha this was a cute one! I'm sure you have so many funny stories to tell about the kids & grandkids. Have a wonderful 4th of July!

Kim said...

Adorable! When I taught kindergarten, I heard the best stuff all day long. It was hard not to laugh! What a nice memory of your brother, too.

Red Rose Alley said...

That's a good one, Diana. It's really something that you kept all these funny little words that were said by your kids and grandkids. My son would say the funniest things when he was little, and I had to write down some of them (not sure if I mentioned that to you or not), but every time I went back to read them, I was laughing once again.

It's July!

love, ~Sheri

Too funny! Every once in a while I'll hear one of my, fast approaching middle age, daughters tell a story from their childhood completely wrong. It's what they thought was happening as a kid, not what actually happened. I'd better check and see if either of them thinks guerillas change plane tires.

Lisa Mangold Kosmoski said...

What a funny post! Being in grade school at the time, I know I thought the same thing when I heard stories about the guerrillas. I kept wondering why we were going to war with the gorillas! lol
