FEBRUARY 1ST- FASTING For Faith and Healing

You know I have never
had any trouble asking for prayers for others.
However, it is not in my nature to ask
for anything for myself.
I just have a hard time doing that.

A wonderful blogger,
who wanted to remain anonymous
until I put the squeeze on her because
of the great post she wrote about fasting,
Deb-Frugal Little Bungalow
put a call out for a day of fasting on
behalf of my husband and myself
to take place on Monday - February 1st.
She explained all the different ways to fast.
For some it might be as simple as
skipping one meal that day-
or giving up snacks you would usually have.
You can read the wonderful post
she wrote about fasting here.

Now, those that know me well
know that
FASTING IS NOT
part of my vocabulary.
I think fasting is waiting 10 minutes
after my meal
to eat a bowl of ice cream.
Yep- that's me!
However, I am going to join
that wonderful blogger and
those that have agreed to fast for us, too.

I will fast and pray for my hubby's health
and continued strength as he fights this battle.

Fasting is different things for different people.
I am going to choose a modified fast-
SUN UP to SUN DOWN
on Monday, February 1st!
So glad for these short winter days-whew!

Because I get up very early
I am going to eat an early breakfast
and drink clear fluids all day-
Clear fluids for me are water,
with or without lemon or lime,
and clear chicken broth.

IF you care to join us - please do so.
If it is not something you are comfortable with-
or you have a medical condition or-
you take food with medications...
just wing a little prayer up for us instead.

Bless all of you.
We are so thankful for those that leave us
comments and well-wishes and
pray on our behalf
and send us their love.

You all are just
THE BEST!

THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU-

For those of you that choose to fast on Monday-
I'll send you an apple pie Tuesday.
I mighta lied about the pie......

I will put up a reminder on Sunday sometime.

Let's see...30 days hath September...so that means I've got today and tomorrow to cram down as many Cadbury mini eggs as I can...Seriously, I know that fasting is something I should be familiar with, but I've only fasted once, a long time ago. Count me in. And I'll be waiting for that pie... Blessings on you and John.

I grew up Protestant and fasting was a huge part of my tradition. Like you, I haven't fasted in years but will join you in praying for John to have strength for what God has set before him. You'll be included as well; I know something of what lies ahead.

I'll do a modified fast, for as long as my sugar holds steady.

So much time is taken regarding meals, if we...every now and then...had a fast and had that time in deep prayer, why that just makes sense to me. Joining in with you on Feb. 1st. xx

Oh my dearest Sweet D! It would not hurt this plump friend of yours to fast on the first!

Good Morning Diana, A quick note before I head to the funeral home for a graveside service for my daughter's friend's dad. I will be there for you and John with prayers and hugs. I will do fasting for you that day for healing. You can never have to many prayers and other things for you all. Later it's pinewood derby day at the church with my youngest grandson, and then basketball with the middle. Some fun after the sad. Take care. Many hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend Shirley

Can't do fasting Diana as I'm remission and it would not be good at this time. Saying that I have and will be praying for all of you.

What a fabulous idea Deb came up with. And yes, fasting can take on so many different meanings for different people. I look forward to joining in.

I had a Muslim co-worker once who had to fast during Ramadan. I believe it means no food or water from sunrise to sundown. She'd eventually become weak enough to get a piece of gum or something.

Been off school for a week due to historic snowstorm...going to give it a try for the school day, Monday. I know I will be exhausted when I get home, but the least I can do. To be totally truthful, my hips are saying, "Stay away from the baked goods."

Pam Kessler said...

That's a fantastic idea! I'll be joining you! If I do clear liquids then I can still drink beer, right?

Will join you Monday and have been saying prayers for your hubby. Good things will come your way.

Linda said...

What a wonderful friend she is to do that for you and John. I'm with you.........fasting is waiting a few minutes to eat. Saying prayers for your family.

God bless all who join this day of fasting and praying for John. There is such power in joint prayer. As a diabetic I no longer fast but on Monday I will read scripture aloud and pray for healing for John as I go about my chores that day and will ask my family to also.

Love to you, Diana,
Dewena

I will pray more on Monday but I am a diabetic and I don't think I could do that all day - maybe liquids. I do care though.

Deb is very sweet. I'll do what you are doing with the clear liquids, I could stand to lose a pound or two! And I'm sending many prayers as always.

I will do my best to remember to join in on this important fast.

Wishing you and hubby well!

That ice cream sure looks good. Maybe you should leave that picture out of your reminder post. It might make fasting more difficult to see a bowl of delicious ice cream and a pie! LOL And I am considering joining you. Tag me in your reminder if you put it on facebook.

I would like to do this on Monday morning. xoxo

I'll fast on Feb 1st and it won't hurt a bit. I fast from carbs and I'll eat fruits and veggies to keep my blood sugar at a comfortable level. Wishing you both a good weekend.
Prayers for healing and courage.
Hugs,

I will fast as much as I can, Diana. I take medication and I need to eat after. But I can do without treats and things that I like to eat. Still praying for John and for you too, Diana. I feel you also need prayers. I hate fasting. Does anybody like it? I am a glutton, I confess and I do love my treats. Nevertheless, I would like to be part of this as I know that fasting is a powerful form of prayer, one that I need to practice more often. Perhaps this could be the beginning for me. When I was young, we needed to fast before communion. So, if we went to 11:00 o'clock Mass, this meant we had to fast and we did it. We always tried to go to early Mass though because of the fasting. So, it's not like I don't have any practice at it but that was a long time ago. Now we only need to fast for an hour before communion. So, I am out of practice.

What a wonderful response so far : as I said in my post...I had just meant to do a blog post in general about fasting for newbies, as I had done, and then at the end I think that our Lord took over / I am so sure that He wants to do something through this virtual prayer meeting! :)

I cracked UP at the ice cream...that is SO ME! :)

This is a wonderful thing to do. In my church we have a regular monthly fast. The first Sunday of each month. Fasting with prayer and a purpose is always a good thing. It is also a time when one can draw nearer to God and feel the Spirit.

You are both in my prayers daily. Take care of yourself.

I do not need to fast as I have an eating disorder ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) and I am lucky if I eat 2 meals a day! I am so trying to get up to the 5-6 small meals the doctor wants me to have. It plays heck with my health!

This is lovely... But don't forget. You are the Care-Giver. Who is already devoting your life, to this project. It seems a bit of over-kill, to have you fast too.

Yes, a big over-kill, to have YOU fast too.

You of all people, need to maintain your health and stamina and fight off germs, at this time!

Please! Please! Please!

Let those, who feel good, about doing this fast, do it.

But not you...

Not a good idea to deprive your body, of nutrients, at this time.

Gentle hugs...

Yes! -waving hand- Not only do you have to contend with private email "advice," you have to contend with it here too. -grinnnnnnn- "No place is safe" ,-)))
