FRIDAY-THIS & THAT- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE OLD BOY (FORMERLY MY HERO)

There are lots of birthdays

and lots of days to celebrate

in July for our family.

However----
Today is
Hubby's  Birthday!
Yep!
I let him live another year!

TODAY he hits the
BIG 76!!!
Dat be soooo old

This was taken a few years ago
before cancer exacted its toll.
Today he is still dealing with some health issues.

So far, they have ruled out
just about everything.
We have seen several specialists and
been at Mayo for a week's worth of tests.
No real answers.

ANYWAY-------

Happy Birthday, My Hero-
I love you
like 99% of the time-
the rest of the time?
Well, we just won't talk about that
now, will we?

Wait till he sees the
SURPRISE I have in
store for the Old Boy!
-yeah-baby-

It's COOL-
That's a hint....
It may or may not be this....

We are in a place this weekend
where we have very
LIMITED PHONE SERVICE
and
NO INTERNET

so bear with me
as I try to answer any comments
or make visits.

Have a wonderful weekend
AND
Be Good.
If
YOU ARE GOOD
that kind of allows me to
BE BAD.

Another little surprise coming up
as soon as I am allowed to
post it.
You will die  smile!

LIFE UPDATE ON MY HUBBY AND ME!

This is a long post so

settle in~ lol

Sometimes life turns us upside down.

We think our lives are following

the path we planned and hoped for.

But, sometimes, life throws us a curve.

We had planned to travel.

We had planned to enjoy our

GOLDEN YEARS.

We had planned to help our children

and grandchildren with projects

and help them realize their dreams.

Life had other plans for us.

Hubby (MyHero on the blog)

started declining about 5 years ago.

As most of you know,

he had three bouts of cancer.

The last one (almost 10 years ago)

was Stage 4-head/neck cancer.

They did not give us much hope

that he would make it through

the rigorous schedule of radiation and chemo.

He did make it through but at great expense.

Slowly he recovered and was able to live

a somewhat 'normal' life for a few years.

Then, about 5 years ago, he started passing out

with no warning.  The first time,

he stopped breathing.

CPR brought him back around and in hospital

they ran test after test with no clearcut results.

Over the past 5 years he has continued to decline.

This past December we finally got to spend a week at Mayo.

They ran every test known to man on him.

Lungs-good. Heart- good. Blood work-good.

Every test ruled out another 'maybe'.

Best diagnosis- MSA

(multiple system atrophy).

However, he doesn't meet all the criteria but-

it is the best they can agree on.

His blood pressure drops for no reason.

Sometimes it is 70/35.

Sometimes it is almost normal.

When his blood pressure drops-so does he.

The rescue squad came 3 or 4 times.

They tried various meds-none of them worked.

They tried various exercises-Nope-not that!

He was in bed about 70% of the time.

I became a full-time caretaker.

He would be up all night so I would sleep

in one to two hour increments and get up to check on him.

I was a short order cook and bottle washer.  lol

The first of this year,

it all caught up with me.

I woke up one day and my foot/ankle 'hurt'.

By the first of February I could barely walk.

An old auto-immune issue I had 35 years ago

raised its ugly head.

It took every ounce of oomph to get through

a 24 hour period.

I was on meds and the first couple

rounds did not work.

Added other meds-nope-not working-

It hurt to even take a deep breath

and, meanwhile, I was helping hubby get up and down

when he needed to and also taking care of

2 sweet pups- Scruffy and Coco.

He is almost exactly twice her size/weight. 25#-13#

He is King of the World and she is the

Princess in Waiting.

In April, we assessed the situation hubby and I were in.

We decided that

hubby needed more help than I could give him

and I needed a true 'rest' so my body could heal.

Just down the street from us (7 blocks)

is a wonderful facility.  It is one block

from where John was born and raised.

My kids insisted it was the 'best thing'

for both of us.

Hubby has a beautiful efficiency unit there.

They make sure he gets up and out of bed

and monitor his meds.

He gets three meals a day and

all the gals make a fuss over him.

He has lots of company from old friends

and our oldest daughter lives one block from his place.

Our youngest son also lives one block away.

The kids' homes back up to each other.

Both kids have picked him up for outings.

Our older son is also in town but

lives further out.

Our youngest daughter lives in Indiana

so she is not here very often.

It is hard for me to pick him up

and take him anywhere because

I have to fold up his walker and

take it in and out of our vehicle.

He uses a cane sometimes but it is not

supportive enough most of the time.

It has taken me about 8 weeks to start sleeping

through the night.

For five years I woke up

every hour or two to check on hubby.

My pain is manageable and I am getting better.

My one foot and ankle are still a challenge.

I have inflammatory arthritis.

Not rheumatoid-IA works on the muscles

and tendons and you can't 'see' it.

It is like having severe tendonitis all over.

As a bonus, I had to restart potty training Coco.

She is doing well but I had my beautiful living room rug

deep cleaned and have rolled it up and stored it.

Scruffy rings the doorbell when he has to go out.

She comes and 'looks at me' or, if I am sleeping,

she sneezes in my face.

Yep-wouldn't you know I would get a dog like that?!

She is so sweet I would forgive her anything.

She is half Scruffy's size but can chase him off if she so chooses.

They play beautifully together and it has given

me great joy to watch them bond.

He taught her a couple of naughty tricks-

no surprise there, right?

Anyway, I guess that's all I've got.

Just wanted everyone to know what has

been going on in my life.

Several of you have reached out to me

and I thank you for that.

I have not been a very good blogger

these past months and few years.

I hope to get back to it because I love

keeping in contact with all of you!

Keep us in your prayers and I will try to

"be a good girl"

and you all know that I am NOT very good at that!

Much love to all of you~

ps- Still got my sense of humor-

thank the good Lord---otherwise---

well....jail time does not appeal to me at all.

A Very Hard Post To Write- Please Pray For Us-MyHero Has Cancer

I have been putting off writing this
because I hardly know where to start.
 My Hero has cancer.

He had a biopsy the day after Thanksgiving
and they called him on Saturday to tell him
it tested positive for cancer.

Today he had three scopes and another biopsy.
Monday we see the radiologist,
the oncologist and he has a PET scan.
Tuesday we have a CT scan.
After that we will know exactly
what we are facing.
We will be in the biggest battle of our lives
(which is a whole lot different than the spats over
"WHY can't you put your underwear in the hamper?)

Please pray for MyHero and for our kids
and grandkids.
Cancer is not a ONE PERSON diagnosis
it affects whole families.

I am not going to be blogging for a bit
but I will keep you all posted from time to time.
I need to devote time and energy
to appointments and care-taking.

Thanks to all of you that have followed my blog
and been such a great support in the past.
I appreciate it and love each one of you!

Have a blessed, wonderful Christmas
YEP-it is MY blog and I will say
MERRY CHRISTMAS
rather than Happy Holidays!
As you can see I am still my
SASSY SELF
which just might be a good thing
in these upcoming weeks.

Please pray for us and/or
send healing thoughts our way!
Thanks so much!

The Day After A Colonoscopy AND- What Do You Think?

I made it through the
TEST yesterday!

Now, for all of you that are
DREADING A COLONOSCOPY
you will hear everyone say
HOW AWFUL IT IS.

Well, Honestly,
I didn't think it was so bad.
I am waiting for some
test results and I will share
more about the procedure
when I get the results back.
Not to worry----

So...
This will be short and sweet today.
AND I want to know......

What do YOU think?
Two or three people have told me that
they think our SweetCheeks looks like
the little girl (from earlier seasons) in
GAME OF THRONES.
I have never watched the program
so I had to look it up.
Look for yourself.
What do YOU think?
I do think there is a pretty strong resemblance.

My husband used to think he resembled
ROBERT REDFORD
What do YOU think?
I know it is hard to tell the difference
BUT
The one on the LEFT really IS
ROBERT REDFORD.

So, tomorrow I will be around
with my usual nonsense.
Today I will just play
"catch up".

Still time to sign up
for the sign giveaway
on my blog.

Papa Gives The Princess Advice

MyHero loves giving advice
to everyone.
Most nod their heads and say
"uh-huh--uh-huh"
But when he gave
Baby Bright Eyes advice?
 THIS is her response!
She listens about as good as I do!

No time for a longer post this morning.
I had a house full of people since last Thursday
and some are leaving today.
And now----
I am off to the VA for 6:00AM

I will be back tomorrow with some pictures
of the back yard and other work
I got done before the
Fourth of July holiday
AND
ONE PICTURE TOMORROW
will give you a
BIG BELLY LAUGH...
a spurt-your-coffee-out-your-nose kind of laugh!

Have a great day!
I will be around to visit when I get home.

Finish It Up Friday- Five Favorites (plus a couple)

Any of you old enough to remember
The Three Faces of Eve
with JoAnn Woodward?

Well, today's post is all about
The Looks Of Lulu

I couldn't resist posting these.
Her baby sitter made her up and
took pictures of her for a school project.
She is supposed to look like a
1950's young movie star.
I think they hit the nail on the head,
don't you?
One more of her in the 50's mood
Look at the bow in her hair and the curls.
Here she is unmade up...
as we usually see her as she goes off to school.
If you remember for Easter Sunday
she set her hair in pin curls.
She is usually NOT THE CLOWN in the family
so it fun to get her when she is
mugging for the camera.
C'mon Lulu!
Give us a nice smile for the camera!
Okay-
How about one of your
"SWEET" SELF?
I love that one, Lulu,
but could we get
JUST ONE MORE?
Do a nice picture with Papa now!
Okay?
(Papa thinks she is smiling nicely at the camera)

Lulu!
Now look what you've done!
He feels so bad now-
Papa is sitting in the car and texting his only friend
cuz his feelings are hurt.
Poor Papa!

I felt so sorry for MyHero that I decided
I should take him away for the weekend.
(Hey-Any excuse for a road trip, right?)

I am leaving this morning and will
be gone until Monday morning.
Hope MyHero wants to go with me
otherwise it is Hasta la vista, baby!

FINISH IT UP FRIDAY-Five For Fun

I may get my picture files all cleaned up yet
by doing these
Finish It Up Friday posts.

What do you get when you
put a bit of polish to tarnished silver?
It sure is pretty here, huh?!
Ummm...here's the before.
Yes- it is tarnished.  DON'T judge!
I've been sick, remember?
I may use that as an excuse the rest of my life...
The grammas would be rolling
in their respective graves seeing this~
Next up-Someone sent me this and said
 it reminded them of
Baby Bright Eyes.
I can't find a source-
if you know it I will gladly give credit for it.
So sweet-I think that is the connection-
They are both just SWEET!
Let's see-
What else?
Why is CJK so happy?
Cuz he knows Nana does not care
HOW BIG OF A MESS
he makes with a sticky sucker on the tile tray,
~ dominos and  other boy "stuff"~
SweetCheeks asked Papa to be her
SPECIAL PERSON
at school.
He brought her flowers and she was thrilled.
Doncha love those dimples and NEW teeth?
Papa was so thrilled that he was her special person!
The next day he
offered to take SweetCheeks to see
CINDERELLA!
Here they are -ready to go~
I told her if she wanted to have a
CINDERELLA THEMED PARTY
I would be glad to host one!
I will invite them all over and they can
CLEAN MY HOUSE!
 Yes. I. Am. Wicked!

Have a
WICKEDLY WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

A Shamrock Kind Of Sunday To You And A Little Limerick

There once was a Nana named Diana,
That had a grandgirl named Anna,
To honor the sweet miss,
She set up a dish,
But forgot to put out the banana.

Ah-yes---I might have neglected to get a
BANANA
but I did remember to make
SHAMROCK COOKIES!
they are the blob to the left on the plate
Bet you want to see more of that
cute little table,
don't you?

Well, that is not gonna happen today.
I do, however, have another
LITTLE LIMERICK
for you.

MyHero said- Let's go for a ride,
We'll rent a room-it'll be exciting inside,
So I said, Yes, with a grin,
but found much to my chagrin,
He had forgotten the TV guide.
Welcome to MY EXCITING life..

Have a wonderful EXCITING Sunday!
Hope you remembered to set your clock ahead.

Happy October First!!!!

I can't believe it is
OCTOBER
already!
Can you?
I stole this graphic from a friend...
shhhhhhh...

Anyway,
I am doing a bit of
CATCH UP
today after not much
sleep for the last few days.

As sad as it was
the funeral for our friend, Ken, yesterday
was heartwarming.
So many people that turned out to pay
their last respects.
Amazing!!!
The little country church was full with
standing room only.
He was an wonderful man
and his absence will leave a
hole that will not be easily filled.

So-
Back tomorrow with my regular nonsense.
And for your smile today...
Does this prove that
"all those that wander are not lost"?
hmmmm...

Looks like MyHero tossed the
PICNIC TABLE
out of the way trying to find his way home.

ps..  I did NOT drive off and leave him there.

~Have a Happy October 1st~

FINISH IT UP FRIDAY-More Random Nonsense

Well, I see you came back around again.
Just can't stand not knowing
WHAT KIND OF NONSENSE
I am going to be throwing out there, can you?

Ready?
Here we go!

This is a French Lilac just about
ready to open.
The blooms are HUGE-but there are only two.
I am talking at least 16 inches for each bloom.

This happened on Mother's Day
at the Algoma, WI beach.
Lulu, Ria & SweetCheeks made it.
It says MOM!
There better be one just a couple steps over
that said NANA...
and that's all I'm gonna say about that!
We went out on my son & daughter-in-law's pontoon boat the other evening.
This is Bird Island.
All those THINGS are NOT ROCKS.
They are birds.
Let's just say you want to stay
UPWIND from this place on a hot day.
Here are Papa & CJK
chatting each other up on the ride.
Isn't that a dear picture?
THE NEXT DAY IT STORMED.
When the rain comes in off the bay it comes down in sheets!
It is hard to tell where the water ends and the sky begins.
Speaking of SHEETS!
I see someone has crawled under them AGAIN!
I have threatened to smother him
if he keeps taking naps
every time I need want something done.
However, it looks like he is trying to smother himself this time!
Hey- Why don't you use that
OTHER GIANT HAND
you've got there?
Have a great Friday!
I'll be around with more nonsense tomorrow!
You can bet on it.

The New Drama Queen In The Family & Old King Cole

It was just a simple request.
We simply said...
Baby Bright Eyes,
Say your prayers....
and this is what we got!
MyHero wonders how she can breathe.
We were wondering the same thing about him.
Oh- Wait!
I see his nose has been left out.
One of these days I am going to be
"done in".
Should I go missing please
notify the authorities,
will ya?

Busy, busy day today.
I will check in as I can!

Do YOU Have Twins At YOUR House

So...
Are you one of those people that finds something
you love AND you love it
SO MUCH
that you buy TWO?
Please tell me I am not alone!
These are IDENTICAL TWINS...
Aren't they cute?

I had one in my hand when the 2nd one,
not wanting to be separated from his
IDENTICAL TWIN,
JUMPED into my basket.
I didn't have the heart to put him back on the shelf.

These are fraternal twins here.
They are huggers-
They have made friends with the identical twins.
See?
And these?
Well, these are
SIAMESE TWINS.
Stuck together forever.
They are kind of like
MyHero and his best friend, Mikey....
Oh- Wait-
They are joined at the head.
They only separate at the movies
so that no one will think they are
a couple.
Nevertheless--
If you get one- you get them both!

How about you?
And DOUBLES at your house?
