POKE ME WITH A FORK-I THINK I'M DONE!

Does anyone remember that commercial?
The one with the line that went-
Poke me with a fork I think I'm done?

Well, I remember hearing the ad and it was
often repeated by a little neighbor boy, Brett.
Brett also carried a NAKED blond Barbie doll around
AND he called it Mrs.Kosmoski!
SERIOUSLY!
.....and now you know my real name.....

Anyway- That might have been
a tad too much information
so let's move along to cooking, shall we?

It's all about turkey right now
but if you are looking for an
EASY recipe to use leading up to
THANKSGIVING--
this might work!

I am basically lazy when it comes to meals.
There- I've said it.  It's true!
So, that means
I LOVE EASY MEALS.

Does this look EASY?
Well, it is.
Brown 4 pork chops in 1 Tablespoon of butter over
Medium-high heat.
Kinda fuzzy picture, huh?
Hey!  You want perfect pictures?
Buy a magazine!
Or visit a blog with a better photographer.
I'll work on it.
While those are browning,
Core and slice about 5 - 6 apples.
I used 2 big Honey Crisp and
3 or 4 Braeburns that I had.
Use more apples than you think you will want
because they cook down.
Throw them in the crockpot.
Sprinkle heavily with cinnamon
(or Apple Pie Spice-that's what I used)
and 1/3 cup brown sugar.
Place browned pork chops on top of apples.
Salt and pepper them to taste.
Cover and cook on low for about 6 hours.

I served ours with rice and broccoli
and coffee in a Pumpkin cup.
Trust me- there will NOT be any leftovers!

So- Here's the recipe-

Slow Cooker Pork Chops & Apples
4 boneless pork chops
4-5 large apples of choice
Cinnamon  or Apple Pie Spice
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup apple juice or apple cider.
(I used cranberry juice this time)
Salt & Pepper

Brown pork chops over medium high heat in 1T melted butter.
Core and slice apples and toss them in crock pot.
Sprinkle with Apple Pie Spice or Cinnamon
(I would estimate I used 3 or 4 teaspoons)
Sprinkle with the brown sugar.
Pour apple juice over it.
(I didn't have any apple juice/cider so I used Cranberry juice and it was delicious)
Layer on the pork chops.
Cover and cook on low for about 6 hours.
Enjoy!

AND - if you see one of THESE lying around
naked please DO NOT call it
Mrs. Kosmoski!!!
I don't want the neighbors to talk.

  1. You crack me up. Diana! And I love pork and apples cooked together. But I can't think of that dinner with thinking of Peter Brady in the episode about "pork chopsh and apple shause". Do you remember it?

  2. What a story Mrs. Kosmoski! Or should I call you Barbie? LOL. That is hilarious!!!!!!! But on the serious side, that pork chop dinner looks fabulous. I love the idea of the apples with the porkchops. I just cooked a pork loin roast in the oven, and had applesauce on the side, but it came out of a jar because I didn't have enough apples. Your idea of the crock pot is great. My problem is thawing out the meat on time to use a crock pot. Since I am retired I don't think about those things anymore. But maybe I will. That really looks good. Thanks for a good laugh Mrs.K!!!

  4. I am laughing right now. Oh naked Barbie's are all over my Grandgirls house!! She won't keep clothes on any of her dolls...we aren't sure why. This recipe looks so good. I'm going to copy it and give it a try. I shopped all day and I'm done, stick a fork in me!

  6. Those pork chops sound wonderful....I like easy too! All, I repeat, ALL the Barbies around here are naked!! I find one, I dress it with whatever is laying around, next thing I know....there she is in all her glory ;0/. Promise I won't call out Mrs. K!

  7. I don't know what it is about Barbies but they always lose their clothing, no matter who has them. I have a box full of them that still have no clothing, I used to take those odd socks and make dresses for them, for the kids to play with, lol
Next time I have apples, I'm going to grab a pork loin and do this, it looks great.
And you can thaw the pork chops in the skillet, just brown them slowly, then pitch them in the pot, might take a little longer to cook, but not a lot.

  8. That plate look delicious... Can you come cook for me? ;-)

I have to say, I think Mrs. Kosmoski should be a little cautious.

  9. If a kid ever thought of me when holding a Barbie doll, that kid would be taken straight to the eye doctor for glasses! LOL! For you, not so!

  33. I haven't done my grocery shopping yet for the week. I will be picking up pork chops! I love that recipe - thanks, Diana. Any special reason that Barbie doll had to be naked? Is there something you are NOT sharing with us? -Jenn

  34. What a relief to turn off cable news and come here to this! My first chuckles of the day and a delicious recipe. This one has all my favorite ingredients in it. Apples and pork chops just go together, don't they? Sometimes when I take the pork chops out of the pan for our breakfast--yes, we're some of those crazy southerners who eat them for breakfast--I stir a little cinnamon into the drippings and then add sliced fresh pineapple. Okay, I admit a little brown sugar goes in too.

I think that little neighborhood boy had a crush on you!

  35. Yum, apples and pork chops are so good together! That is too funny about the neighbor kid. It was the color hair and your beauty that got him naming Barbie after you!!

  38. Diana, This recipe is right for me...I hate big cooking any more...mostly because I seem like a one winged fly buzzing around in circles in the kitchen. I have lost my cooking rhythm. Probably on purpose. LOL. I like simplicity...one pot meals are just the thing for a household of two people. Girl don't worry about being naked...do something about that hair. LOL. I love it. Blessings to all, love you, xoxo, Susie

  39. This is a nice meal. I love dishes with rice. The apples with cinnamon and brown sugar looks really good. Sometimes I make Cornish hens for Thanksgiving instead of the BIG turkey, and that is easy and Yummy. : ) Great meal choice, Diana.
