we oohed and aahed over kids

Chocolate Gravy
is really a Southern dish
and I live in the Midwest.
However, I think I am a
and I live in the Midwest.
However, I think I am a
Dixie girl at heart
cuz I love all things South.
While living down there
I developed a taste for
grits-ummm.hmmmm..
with lots of REAL butter
and salt and pepper please.
AND a taste for
CHOCOLATE GRAVY.
CHOCOLATE GRAVY.
Now, if y'all want you can
go ahead and slave over
the biscuit part OR
you can buy Bisquick.
I choose the latter course.
I suppose you could even
lower yourself to buying those
biscuits in a tube...but I'm
not that far down yet!;>)
(sorry all you tube openers)
Anyway, bake yourself up
some biscuits.
And pour it over those
biscuits and you will have
biscuits and you will have
a feast fit for a king..
or in my case,
a Queen...
Oh..enjoy..enjoy..
At least once! And if you can
still do your zipper up you
can have some more
tomorrow~
You're welcome!
Did I mention that this
was always one of
SweetCheeks
very favorite recipes
when she was little?
Go figure!
Here is Paula Deen's version:
Here is Paula Deen's version:
Chocolate Gravy
1/3 stick butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
2 cups whole milk
Heat butter in a cast iron skillet over low heat.
Mix in sugar, flour and cocoa.
Slowly pour 1 cup of milk into the skillet and
whisk well to remove lumps.
Whisk in remaining milk, stirring constantly,
until mixture is thick, being careful not to scorch. Serve hot over biscuits.
And, pluhleeeze-
DO NOT let your kid
lick the plate
and put it back in the cupboard.
Let the dog do it.
I hope you all have a
wonderful Sunday.
As for me,
I will be wearing my
stretchy skirt so I can have
TWO helpings of
CHOCOLATE GRAVY.
Oh- Yeah-
By the way---
I might have lied about the
CARB FREE PART.
Sorry 'bout thatsucker!
Oh- Yeah-
By the way---
I might have lied about the
CARB FREE PART.
Sorry 'bout that
I love it too! Havent had in a long time, but now need to make it soon. Thanks for recipe. Enjoy your Sunday!
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, I have never had chocolate gravy and my granny was from southwest Virginia, but I never remember her making this. I might have to try it when I get home from my trip.
ReplyDeleteDiana, My mom would make this once in awhile, but my aunt Helen made the very best chocolate gravy. Of course she made her own biscuits and mom's could never hold up to my aunt's. This was a great treat to have for me and my siblings. I have never made it , myself. So I have not had this since I was a kid. But I have a cookbook with the recipe. Oh SC would love some of that right now, I bet. Blessings to you and yours, love, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThat's carb free, right?
ReplyDeleteOh my, that looks and sounds absolutely wonderful ! Happy Sunday !
ReplyDeleteNever had it, but if B.J. cooks says it is good... I will eat it:) Looks yummy and I am drooling over these pictures. Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS
ReplyDeletewhen I saw the post on my reading list Chocolate Gravy I immediately thought , Oh Bj posted lol,, and then I thought well it could be,, ,,, and yup it was YOU!! Yummmmo!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you like it, I know I would. Actually though, you've got me wanting some grits; and yes with butter. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day, Diana!
xoxo
I like biscuits but not gravy
ReplyDeleteSo funny! Maybe I could make it with nondairy stuff like almond milk and margarine. It probably wouldn't taste quite so scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm...mmmmm..good! We love our gravy! I heard we are getting a Paula Deen restaurant at the Landing in Branson! I’m excited! Have a great week Diana!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds good and I will give it a try. You are so right about blogging in the old days. It was so much fun and you got to know the bloggers . Now it is just parties I see and not too many doing anything else. Also,it seems all the homes are looking the same. Everything changes and not for the better.
ReplyDeleteHA....you had me at "Carb Free" and thought I would try it. Being a part-time Keto fan, carb free was the eye catcher!!! But then I saw sugar and thought...Diana is pulling my leg again!!!! Good try!!! Lol!!
ReplyDeleteWe can just pretend about the carb-free thing! LOL
ReplyDeleteNever heard of chocolate gravy but it sounds like what I make when my fudge doesn't work out. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have seen this on BJ's blog but had no ideas where she got the recipe. It seems that the recipe is from the Ozark and Appalachian regions and that is not my part of the South. I read somewhere that Elvis loved chocolate gravy. Now, I am totally on board with the grits. Seriously, I love grits.
ReplyDeleteYeah so that looks amazing!! I would like to go as far as adding some fresh berries. Yum Yum!!! I'm not a Southern girl but I can see it wouldn't be hard to convert!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!
Saimi
Thanks Diana for your email today! Now my hubby would love that gravy, but I have been Low Carb for a year and half now and don't eat bread or grits so don't guess I'd better eat the gravy either although it does look good.
ReplyDeleteTake care sweet friend!
Sylvia
I'm not really southern either as I was born in Dallas and have lived all my life in West Texas...but I was born with a Southern heart as my mama and daddy was as southern as you could get....I don't think I like grits...the taste is fine...but the texture turns me off. Bill could eat his weight in them, tho.
ReplyDeleteI may just have to try this before I die. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is new to me, my friend!
ReplyDeleteBut WOW!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing the recipe.
And I love your thoughts about how blogging used to be.
I am soooo thankful to you for keeping this blog world going!!!
I really enjoy hot biscuits with homemade, country gravy for breakfast. But not sure if I would venture out for chocolate gravy. I am too country for that.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you here. That chocolate gravy sounded good - I made a copy of it. No carbs - lol. Hope you are having a nice weekend. sandie
ReplyDeleteLove chocolate gravy even though I’m not a chocoholic! Made it for the quads once and Louis Dean was the one who liked it best!
ReplyDeleteYum, yum! Chocolate with a side of biscuit. Yes, please!
ReplyDelete;)
Cecilia
So funny I was born and bred here in the south and have never had this!!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it until a few years ago. I'm afraid if I made it I would not be able to stop eating it and I sure wouldn't be able to zip my zipper.
Oh, WOW! This looks amazing! I think I would try making it with Trim Healthy Mama Gentle Sweet. I LOVE that stuff ~ it tastes just like sugar and is so, so healthy! Thanks for sharing, sweet friend. :)
ReplyDeleteThis recipe scares me! I know I would be hooked so I have to stay away. Its soooooo tempting! Just add bacon ! Ok im drooling and just gained about 10 lbs thinking about it. I just cant!!! I have to leave here now because my tonge just slapped my forhead!.
ReplyDeleteLisa
Oh girl......down here in south Louisiana, chocolate gravy over biscuits is like church on Sunday. It’s a given!!! And over croissants?? To die for!!!
ReplyDeleteI’m a salt/pepper/butter on my grits too...my husband is a sugar & Mathew jelly grit guy. Yuk!!!
Mayhaw jelly!
ReplyDeleteWow Yum!!! Chocolate and Gravy in the same sentence is heavenly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I like just about anything on a biscuit.
Happy New Week
Hugs,
Kris
I grew up eating my Ma-Maw's biscuits and sausage gravy. Or bacon gravy. Nobody made biscuits like her, I loved them. She never made chocolate gravy. But biscuits with dripping butter and thick sweet honey was a treat I loved! I will have to try this recipe!
ReplyDeleteYum...I've yet to try making it, but plan to. I'm a biscuit tuber girl as they taste far better from the tube than my own concoction does.
ReplyDeleteWhat? I didn’t know there was another way to make biscuits besides popping open that dough boy tube!!! Looks delish.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Chocolate gravy!!! Where have you been all my life? Love the sweet reminder about precious BJ. She is missed.
ReplyDeleteI have never had chocolate gravy and I think the first time I actually saw it posted was on BJ's blog. I am going to try this. Looks so good. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHEY!!! Chocolate is a no-no for dogs !!! I'm a biscuit in the tube person..I like chocolate on anything or just all by itself!! How about a hot biscuit, vanilla ice-cream and chocolate gravy?? Sinful!!
ReplyDeleteMy oh my, something new. :-) I say, bring on the ice cream.
ReplyDeletexx oo
Carla
(shaking my head with a smile here) There is no doubt this chocolate gravy over biscuits tastes good but for this eat-your-greens, mostly vegan gal, I won't be trying it. You can have my portion. I gained weight just reading this post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smiles!
I will have to make this for my guys and take the tiniest, teeny weeny taste. Then I will dive in! Looks so good!
ReplyDeleteToo yummy looking for words!
