Do YOU have PARASKAVEDEKATRIAPHOBIA? This is a REAL condition!

Are you scared?
Are you scared that you
MIGHT HAVE A DISEASE
with such a long, weird name?

Maybe you have it and don't even know it.
I do!
I have it to some extent!
I might have a touch of
PARASKAVEDEKATRIAPHOBIA!
I do NOT like Friday the 13th!
No, indeedy!

Are you superstitious?
Are there certain things you avoid doing?

Do you spill salt and throw some over
your left shoulder to avoid bad luck?

Do you avoid walking
UNDER A LADDER?

Does a rocking chair with no one in it
means there will be a death in the family?
Do you believe bad luck and deaths
comes in threes?

Do you think it will bring you
bad luck if a black cat crosses your path?
Nope! Me either.
HOWEVER-
I DO NOT LIKE THE NUMBER 13!

I won't buy a house
(and we have had 15 of them)
with a THIRTEEN in the address.
I won't buy a house that has
THIRTEEN STEPS.
Nope!  No. I . Won't.

Did you know that when they hang people
there are
THIRTEEN STEPS
leading up to the gallows?

Do you think those being hung
count them?
Is their last thought-
WOW!  They were RIGHT
13 IS an UNLUCKY NUMBER!
(yes-I know I am wicked-thanks for the reminder)

Did you know:
Most hotels don't have a 13th floor?
There are many bible references to 13?
There were 13 people at the Last Supper-

There is a 40%+  decline in houses that
close on Friday the 13th.

Places offer discounts to couples that will
book their wedding on a Friday the 13th.

And-perhaps the most important thing of all?
It takes 13 Witches to form a Coven?
Well, I won't be joining the other
TWELVE OF YOU TODAY.
This old witch will be staying home,
sucking down coffee
and watching old movies today
cuz ya just never know what
danger lurks outside on
FRIDAY THE 13TH!

How about you?
Do YOU have any superstitions?
I bet you do---even if it is a simple one--
like always kissing someone goodbye--
---just in case---

Here's a little
GOOD LUCK KISS
for you today!
Pucker up, baby!
Have a great weekend--
just in case I don't make it back here-----

  1. I am not superstitious and can't think of anything I do or believe that comes under that category. Thirteen doesn't bother me a bit. I always tell people that Friday the 13th is my lucky day. My girlfriend doesn't feel the same since she was trapped inside her burning home on a Friday the 13th. (Thanks to the wonderful firemen who showed up quickly she is alive today.) I do know that numbers are important in the Bible. 3, 7, 9, and 12 come to mind. I've thought for quite some time that 13 became a bad luck number because of the Last Supper. Hmmm... Well, just depend on God to take care of you and don't worry about those silly superstitions. I still won't kiss that monkey, though.

  2. Diana, Funny pictures. I always hear Lucy's (peanut's kid) voice when I read about being superstitions of the number 13. I never think about it being the 13th. I have running chores to do this morning, so I can't worry. Hope we are all safe this weekend. Some crazy weather coming . Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  3. You are too funny- that last picture is a riot! When we had to go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota we noticed there is no umber 13 on the elevators! I don't put any merit into superstitions but I have wondered about the bad luck or death comes in three. Perhaps we just need to feel there's a guarantee that those bad moments are coming to an end. Have a safe Friday the 13th!

  6. I believe several irrational superstitions but Friday the 13th is not one of them. It's because I honour the Divine Feminine whose sacred day is Friday (named after the Norse goddess Freya) and whose sacred number is 13 (the number of moon cycles in a lunar year). So today is a lucky day of blessings for us! (PS, that's why there are 13 witches in a coven too).

  7. I just knew something was up with the full moon last night! My mom worked in the ER for years, and when the two combined, let's just say it made for an interesting night!! LOL

  10. No mater the day or situation, you make it fun. I have heard of all the 13th superstitions, but seem to find it to be my lucky day. Of course, I am a little weird. Enjoy your day.

  11. Oh, Geez! Today IS Friday the 13th - I didn't even realize it until you mentioned it. Shows how much I pay attention to the date these days......Interesting stuff about the number 13. I'm not superstitious, but if I did see a rocking chair rocking on its own, I might change my mind.......Hope your day is quiet and cozy. Hugs xo Karen

  13. Not particularly superstitious but I don't walk under ladders unless it is the shortest distance to where I am going. Love Black Cats, had one named Sinful, who was beautiful

  14. I can't think of anything I'm superstitious about, but I certainly enjoyed this post and the images you put up. No thank you, I won't kiss that monkey! Have a cozy weekend and hope you emerge tomorrow safe and sound from your Friday the 13th cocoon.

  15. I've never been bothered by #13.

When my son and his wife were planning their wedding, they chose an historic downtown Los Angeles hotel that had originally been the United Artists building. It had 13 floors and my son's suite was on the 13th floor. They chose that floor to do their "First Look" and the pics were awesome - fabulous black and white check tile floor, gorgeous windows overlooking the Los Angeles skyline and right next to those windows, appearing in all the photos, was a giant 13 painted on the doors of the elevator. Since that day, I've kind of liked #13.

  16. Well, you certainly have planted the seed of doubt! I choose to ignore it.
I have that quilt to finish.....
Thanks for your help with the banner....I did it!! Yay! I made a banner for my blog! yup...on the 13th and all.....

  17. I'm not very superstitious, but I heard it was bad luck to kill a spider, so I try not to do it. I really don't like Friday the 13th, but I know God is always watching over me, so don't give it much thought. That is weird about the gallows, and I never heard about the rocking chair. Don't stay home, my love. God is greater than all and everything!

love you, and have a pleasant weekend. ~Sheri

  19. Not a bit superstitious here. We're supposed to have an ice storm moving in today, so since it's the 13th we'll see how bad it gets. So far, so good. Have a nice weekend and stay warm!

  20. Fun post, Diana...I hadn't realized it was Friday the 13th (of course I never know what day it is)!
I am not superstitious at all...but my husband stopped me from opening an umbrella in the house the other day...bad luck. I thought that was kind of funny...the bad luck would be all the things you'd break and eyes you'd poke out.

  21. Nope Nope Nope not me no not me!
Actually, just before I sat down to my tablet I looked at my wooden calendar that I change out every night and didn't even realize then that today was going to be Friday the 13the. So I guess I really do not think about it. I hear all those silly things but believe my God is greater than all those superstitions.

Enjoy your movies and have a terrific day~~

  26. Wow! You have so many Friday The 13th facts. I try to keep a positive attitude on this day as I remember competing for something and I was assigned that dreaded number and the outcome was great!! Hope you are snuggled in the house seeing some great movies!!

  27. Giggles, I don't care about Friday the Thirteenth, although I enjoy reading the history behind it. (an evil, greedy French King and the Knights Templar) BUT I do believe in throwing salt over my left shoulder if I spill it.

Here in the South we are very superstitious about birds, especially if you let a bird get inside your house. It means that someone in your immediate family is going to die.

We also paint our porch ceilings haint blue, a shade of blue that tricks haints (or ghosties) into thinking it's water because they can't cross water.

    That's all!

  31. I'd never heard the word you mentioned in your title until today. It was on the evening news! You are so up to date, Diana! I'm not superstitious, but I wouldn't walk under a ladder. I've not heard of the empty rocking chair--there is one that is always empty in our family room downstairs! Yikes! I hope your back is better today and keep us laughing! xo ♥

  32. Your posts are the most fun! Only you could come up with all this about Friday the 13th. I had surgery on Friday 13th years ago and I guess it wasn't bad luck for me...ha! Have a good weekend...xoxo

  33. It didn't even occur to me that this was Friday the 13th until I saw your post. I knew it was Friday. I knew it was January 13, but it just didn't click. I place my trust in God, so I don't see a reason to be superstitious

  34. Funny you should bring up such a subject. I am not superstitious about Friday the 13th, but today when I bought my new computer, the geek told me it would be easy for me to remember when I bought it since it is Friday 13! Thanks so much for reminding me, so now I have to wonder ... have I made a big mistake?

    You are bad, bad girl.

  35. Call me a little weird, but I like the 13th. Our daughter was borned on the 13th. I always considered that our lucky number. I had to laugh because there are those that are afraid of the 13th.Have a good weekend and stay warm. We are suppose to be getting ice. I hope it misses us. 37. I am not superstitious about stuff but I kinda played along with the whole Friday the 13th thing UNTIL.....I got married on the 13th (a Saturday) and went on my honeymoon to Italy. Guess which number is considered good luck in Italy? Yup, 13. I bought a silver 13 charm there and no longer worry about anything going wrong. Oh, and I have a black cat who is the sweetest boy there is. He trips me up by walking under my feet but I am not worried about him crossing my path!

  38. I can't be superstitious I was born on Friday the 13th. In fact today is my birthday and it is also a full moon. It's a great day. Also my mom was born on Halloween

  42. Ha. Yes, I can be a bit superstitious, mainly regarding the "usual" fears you mentioned - black cat, ladders, salt. But the 13th? I have no problem with the number 13 because I was BORN on February 13th! It's always been a lucky number of sorts for me. And no, I was not born on a Friday, it was a Thursday. You can check.:) Have a great weekend! xo Kathleen

  43. Actually, quite the opposite here. My girls and I LOVE the number 13th.

I was engaged on the 13th. I conceived my first daughter on a 13th. BOTH my daughters were married on a 13th - my eldest on a friday the 13th, even. It's strange, but we really find it is a good luck day for us. Not sure why. We aren't in a coven or anything, haha. Hugs.

  44. Loved your very interesting post dear friend!
Iused to belong a small village where most of people were superstitious but i saw them making their lives miserable due to false beliefs. I had mother who though was not educated but had enlightened soul and all I learnt from her is to have faith in the power of Creator who doesn't leave you alone until you stop calling him.

  45. Well I said NO to all of them and guess what Diana, my house number has a "13" in it, so I guess that shows I'm not 'What ever that word is " that you said, I can't even pronounce it! LOL

  47. Not superstitious at all, Diana. Funny, though, when it comes to numbers, I seem to notice a lot of elevens. I also went through a few years where the time 11:11 seemed to keep popping up. I am wiping my face after that monkey kiss!! ;) -Jenn

    1. just remembered...a dear friend sent me someone's thoughts on the number 22...Dave had 22 years with his family, 22 years with Cathy (first wife died) and 22 years with me. apparently, someone thought the number 22 was ___ (full of good stuff) but the number 11 was terrible, horrible, no good, very bad.
4/11 is my birthday and boy howdy, did that ever make me feel "bad"...LOL

  49. I'm not superstitious but I don't tempt fate, I just live my life... I don't look for bad, unfortunately it shows up. I don't believe the 13th brings bad luck but I do love reading all the stories behind why people feel that way... It's very interesting :) xox

(I am not sure I would buy a house with 13 in it and I don't know even know why... lol)

  51. You are funny! I didn't even know it was Friday the 13th until later in the day. I must not be very superstitious.
Thanks for visiting and following on my blog. I had no idea that I was a No Reply Blogger. I never used to be. I tried playing around with the settings but I don't think I did any good. I have two e-mail addresses listed for people to reply to. I've also noticed when I 'follow' someone my picture doesn't show up, yet I have it in my profile. I don't know girl. What I do know, is I have actually followed your blog off and on for years. When your husband had cancer this last time, I'd stop in and check and see how he was doing, and say a little prayer :-) I see you all over the place on other people's blogs so I check in now and then! We've been building a house for several years, on our own (crazy, I know) so I haven't been very good about blogging or following people on a steady basis. It always depended on if I need to paint trim, or hang insulation...whatever! We got the main level of our house finished and I have found a little more time. I'll stop mow...Have a great day.

She did the salt over the shoulder too! Hee Hee! Two of our children are born on the 13th, one in Dec and one in June! you know this as well as I do, while working in the hospital, all the strange stuff happened on Friday the 13th along with the full moon! I just go about my day on Friday the 13th but I know so many who take many extra precautions. Have a blessed SONday my friend. xo
