UPDATES-UPDATES-UPDATES & Belated Happy St. Patrick's Day Pictures

Let me start on a happy note!
I am pretty much home-bound
when we are not at the cancer center.
John really can't stay alone at this point.
That has given me time to do some sorting projects
and also do some SEWING!  Yay!

Having Irish in my DNA means
that I believe in Leprechauns and all the
hoopla that goes with St. Paddy's Day.
I don't want my kiddo's to get
PINCHED FOR NOT WEARING GREEN
on St. Patrick's Day.
You DO KNOW about that tradition, don't you?
So--
I made Big Boy E, CharlesInCharge, CJK,
(and CJK's friend, BOB) vests and ties.
I made sweet little BRIGHT EYES a dress
with matching pantaloons and a dress for her baby doll.
Poor BigBoyE had an earache so didn't have much fun at all.
This was a fun project and I made everything in a day's time.
Those represent some of the joys in life
(except for little E's earache).

There are also some not so good times.
A couple of times I asked for prayer for my friend, Laura,
HERE as she fought an aggressive form of cancer.
Earlier this week,
Laura crossed The Great Divide.
I choose to believe she is in Heaven
with those that have passed before her.
She was in SO MUCH PAIN and was SO SICK
that I think it is a blessing that God took her home.
Her hubby is going to be lost without her.
He was her primary caretaker and she was his life.
Please pray for him and their adult children.

I am waiting for a full update on Dr. Bob Wagner
but my understanding is that he came through surgery just fine.
I can give you more information after I talk to his wife.
There is an update today on
The Caring Bridge about John.
For those that don't visit there here is a copy
of that update.

Well, I wish I could tell you that John is doing really well and
that he is recovering quickly----but that wouldn't be the truth.

The truth is that the recovery is as bad as the treatment-
maybe worse in a way.  Once treatment is finished you kind
of feel like you have crossed that rickety bridge and should
be  'home free'.  The reality is that you are a long way from
home and the road to get there is full of potholes and hidden
 dangers.

This morning while I was packing our stuff up to spend a
couple of hours at the cancer center for hydration, John
passed out.  He 'thinks' he passed out three times in the
bathroom.  He remembers sinking slowly and I am not sure
if he hit his head on the wall or the counter but he has a
large patch of missing skin on his head.

I walked into the bedroom to remind him that we needed to
go to find him sitting on the bed with a bloodied head and
shaky. I am good in situations like this but it took me by total
surprise.  When I told my son, Ryan, (he of the wacky humor) he said,
"I hope you yelled at him and told him to clean up the blood off the wall."
As you can see, I get a lot of sympathetic support from him.

While John does not need stitches the wound is more than a surface scratch and, when we got to the cancer center, they bandaged it so that it does not get infected. They ran some blood work, while we waited for the hydration to be finished; to make sure his numbers are okay.  Everything is within 'normal range' for someone with cancer so is able to be at home. They assured me this is quite common with patients and that we should not be overly concerned.
That, at least, is reassuring.

We are looking forward to continued improvement by the end of next week.  These last two weeks have been hard; hard to endure and hard to watch.  I don't like that feeling of being 'helpless' to do anything to improve things for John but that is what it is and I just do the best I can at any given moment---even if it means biting my tongue sometimes...and y'all know how good I am at THAT! (not)...lol

On a bright note- In the picture above you will see that I made vests for three of my little grandsons, Ethan, Charlie & Carlisle  and a dress for Anna Ireland.  I made a matching dress for Anna's doll and a matching vest for Carlisle's 'little buddy', BOB!  Poor Ethan had an earache and didn't enjoy the day - but you can see in the collage that the other kids all wore their outfits for the day. Noone is gonna pinch my little Irishkins on my watch!

Have a great weekend and watch for Leprechauns.  They don't really leave after St. Patrick's Day, you know.  They are in our house year round. We are hunkered in to watch some movies and mindless TV. ONE of us might doze off a bit here and there (and it is not me).
I want to thank you for all your prayers
and the kindness you have shown us.
Many of you have sent cards and letters
and I apologize for not always sending you a personal
Thank You!

Just know that we read them all and John has them
by his chair and goes through them every few days.
He is still in disbelief that
"that Nana Blog thing"
would create friendships where people
REALLY CARE
about someone they have never met.

I just kind of throw his preacher stuff back at him...
Oh, Ye of little faith.
Cuz that's just the way I am!!

Have a wonderful, blessed weekend!

John should know better than to underestimate you and your blog. LOL- men...my hubby was so amazed when I was so bad after surgery and all the comments as he and Craig had to manage them for me when I couldn't.

  10. And I pray for you too! Caregivers need special prayers for strength and good health too! It is wonderful the social circle we bloggers and readers have developed. In my humble opinion I think women are more social anyway and just know how to support each other. Ha! Gold bless your whole bunch! Sheila

  12. We bloggers are a group to be reckoned with aren't we? The kids are just beautiful as well as their outfits - I should not be surprised at what a great seamstress you are, yet I am. I remember your friend Laura and I am glad she is out of pain. I am glad your dentist seems to be doing well. And thank God John is okay today. It is really all anyone has. We must love and appreciate it. Take care and try to do one fun thing this weekend. Love, sandie

So sorry that The Hero is having after affects. I wish they would just go away. He has been through so much. You too. Maybe the fainting was from being dehydrated. Thinking and praying for both of you.
So sorry about your friend. I certainly know that pain. It's going to be so hard on their hubby's.
    Hugs my friend.

  20. You sew clothes, too?!! I have a hard time just taking in my clothes so my pants won't keep sagging. Haven't done it yet but keep saying I will. You made adorable clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Those outfits are just too cute! I can't believe you did all that in a day! I would have had to have started right after Halloween to even have a chance to get all that done. (Sewing tends to make me say bad words.) Are you sure you didn't have little Leprechaun helpers? Ha!

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Laura. I will definitely keep her husband and family in my prayers.

Hopefully this upcoming Holy Week will be a good one for Your Hero. Well wishes and prayers sent your way!

  23. Diana what adorable little outfits you created for your Grands. Oh all must wear Green on St. Patty's day. Sorry John's recovery from treatment is unfairly difficult, I keep you in my prayers and thoughts. Diana my heart feels so many emotions when I read your updates at the Caringbridge and sometimes do not leave a message but say a prayer instead.

  24. Your grandchildren are so adorable...sorry E is sick and didn't enjoy the day. Hope he is better soon. I'm sorry about your friend. Knowing they're not suffering anymore comforts some but doesn't ease the heartache of loss. Glad your dentist's surgery went well, hope he continues to improve. And for John, I'm praying he will soon start to feel better...yikes on the passing out and banging up his head. May each day bring strength, comfort, and continued healing.
    God's peace,

Continued prayers for John that he will be feeling more like himself really fast. Take care of yourself too!

  27. I recommend bumper guards for John! I'm so sorry he fell and I'm sure it's disconcerting for both of you. Perhaps he was dehydrated? I really believe it's time for him to have an easier road in this situation...you too! Both of you remain in my prayers!

How in the world did you do all that sewing in one day? Each garment is adorable and the grands are so cute dressed in them. So sorry E had an earache...I have that pretty often and it's very painful. Kids shouldn't have pain! I'm so sorry about your friend. The loss will feel immense to her husband so he really needs our prayers. Hope Dr Wagner is doing well and improves daily!

Take care of you in all this, ok?

  50. You are an incredible seamstress Diana! Just love the precious outfits you crafted for your gorgeous grandkids, such cute pictures their mother sent you too! Love them all! Poor John.. and poor you too, having to see him suffer so. I'm so sorry to hear about Laura's passing, but do pray she is at peace now with the Lord. And I will certainly be in prayer for your dentist friend too.. so much suffering in the world isn't there, but so thankful for our hope in the Lord that does help and ease the difficulties we face. Praying that this rickety bridge and pot-holed road smoothes out for you very soon, and that peace and healing come quickly. Much love to you today dear Diana!

Girl you are so talented in your seamstress skills-kid love to have just a little bit of that.mlove all the green items you made-the vest and dress was darling. So from one Irish lass to another-may your days be blessed. Praying John gets stronger each day; have the checked his potassium levels(my sister had many occurances and they blamed it on that). So sorry about the loss of your friend. Love dear crazy lady.

  58. Diana, thank you for these updates. I'm not surprised that John is feeling worse after the radiation. My daughter's father-in-law has cancer and had radiation just before Christmas (esophagus) and really suffered for a couple of weeks afterwards. But now he has been able to eat again, has gained back all of his weight, and has energy. I'm praying that John's experience will be very similar. Hang in there.

  61. Hi Diana! Sorry to read that Laura passed away but as you say she was in so much pain. I had said a novena for her but of course, leaving it all in the hands of our Lord. I believe any prayer we say helps even if the Lord does not always heal through them. I believe they somehow, in some way, benefit the person we pray for. This life is not all there is. I do believe Laura is at peace with the Lord. I have said a prayer for her husband and her family. I also prayed for your dentist. I hope all will go well for him. I pray for John every day and you also, Diana, because you have a heavy burden to carry and you need the Lord's strength in you. It's such a good thing that you can maintain this amazing sense of humour you have. This is not something I possess. I have always been a very serious person which is why I so admire your sense of humour. I don't know how you managed to sow all those cute outfits in just one day. The children all look so cute in them! You are certainly very talented with a sewing machine. Wish I had that talent. When I sew, it's very slow going and often have to undo and sew over again. Needless to say, I do not have much experience with a sewing machine. It's horrible what John is going through and I admire his courage but I feel very sad that he can be in so much pain and so weak. We are so blessed, Diana, to have the Lord in our life. Without Him, what would we do in times of such distress. Take it one day at a time and just keep going. This too shall pass, Diana! You are such a courageous woman and I admire you tremendously. You are such a good model to all of us who read your blog. Take care!

  62. Wow! So much going on with you! First, I am so sorry that John's recovery has not been as easy as we'd all hoped. I pray that it will get easier soon! How frightening for both of you that he passed out! I am glad that he didn't injure himself worse than he did! The kids look adorable in the outfits you made them! I am way impressed! Hope the ear ache has gone away! I am really sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. I am sure that she is in Heaven now, free from pain. Prayers for her husband and family. I am glad to hear that your doctor is recovering well from his surgery! Gosh, have I left anything out? LOL! Prayers for John are continuing - don't y'all get discouraged. Sometimes the answers to our prayers take a while to arrive, but they do come! Love to all, Leena

  74. My husband is the same about this "blog thing." Just last week I finally MET in REAL LIFE a lady that I consider a very good friend of mine. We have followed each other's blogs for years. We have spoken on the phone a few times, we have exchanged cards. And last week SHE CAME TO MY HOUSE!! I truly believe it is a friendship made in heaven for this time in our lives. I am so blessed by her. And as only God could do . . . .she is actually moving and going to live about 30 minutes from me. Only God!!! I am praying for John and for you. Hang in there. I can only imagine how difficult this is, but I am believing for complete healing in Jesus name. What a testimony you will have. All glory and honor to Jesus!!! Blessings my sweet friend :)!! 78. It seems so sad and cruel that after everything John's going though the recovery is just as bad! He must be exhausted with everything he's gone through. You are such a pillar of strength for him and you must be exhausted too. Wishing healing comfort for both of you!

  86. I don't know how I missed this post, Diana, but your sewing projects turned out darling and your 'models' are just too cute for words. I hope your little man with the ear-ache is feeling better now. I am sorry that you have lost your friend and it is so sad for her poor husband. It is good that she is no longer in pain and now in the arms of Jesus watching over those she loves. Caring for your beloved is not easy and sometimes can be frightening, I am sure. I am praying for you to have strength, as you move forward. Please remember to always take care of yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help so you don't get burned out. It's so hard....Sending you and John those prayers for strength. Hugs xo Karen

  87. On the good note, the children are precious in their Saint Patrick's Day finery. Little Bright Eyes and her bitty baby are totally adorable!

On the sad notes, my heart goes out to you. As John's primary caretaker you are carrying a huge burden. Both physically and mentally. My prayers and thoughts continue to be with you.

My heartfelt sympathy at the loss of your dear friend. I t hurts so much to lose the ones we love but it hurts so much more to watch them suffer.
