Thank you to all of you that have
reached out with prayers and good thoughts,
cards and letters and gifts!
Thanks, too, for the
inquiries as to how we are doing.
It was kind of a

more like THIS WAY----
While we celebrated a
BLUE CHRISTMAS
in the family room,
we were
PINK with HAPPINESS
when they let MyHero
come home for Christmas.
Anyway-
I didn't want to make you wait too long

for an update..
Sometimes you wonder how much information is
TOO MUCH INFORMATION-
and sometimes you know there are things you
CAN SHARE and things you
CAN'T (or shouldn't) SHARE.
So- here goes-
I guess this will be a sort of record
for all of us as we hit the path to
CONQUER CANCER.
After 12 days in the hospital
John came home on the 23rd.
We were able to spend
CHRISTMAS DAY
with our family at our daughter's house.
John was able to sleep there
for several hours and enjoyed
his awake time watching the kids.
He still has an infection in his neck
but it is getting better.
They pulled the drain out today and that
is one more step towards being
able to treat his cancer.
We asked them to put a pic line in
so that I can give him his IV treatment
at home.
That has worked out quite well.
He is mostly out of pain at this point
but is tired a lot of the time.
We see the oncologist and the
radiologist on the 4th of January.
We are hoping that they feel the infection
has cleared enough that he will be able
to start treatment on the cancer itself.
We feel like we are in limbo
but know that is where we need to be
at this point.
We have a family wedding to go to on
Saturday and we are looking forward to that.
John was supposed to perform the ceremony
but will do a small part in the service instead.
That is okay.
The only BLUE we are feeling right now
is that soon I will be taking
our tree down and didn't have much time
to enjoy it this year.
However,
We are looking forward with optimism
to 2016.
We are expecting the miracle of healing
to take place-
even if that healing comes in the form of
radiation and chemo-
a "modern miracle" if you will.
I hope you have a blessed,
wonderful, light-filled 2016.
I will keep you posted as we go along.
Blessings and love to all of you-
You are just
THE BEST BLOGGING BUNCH EVER!
I have to give you a smile for the day:
Ryan, our youngest son, came up to
the hospital with us today so he
could take his dad home and I could
leave for an appointment I had for myself.
He said-when the Dr. was examining John-
"You know my cat has now cost me about
$1900. and he isn't getting any better.
I'm gonna have to
make a decision about him soon.
I'd hate to be doing the same for you, Dad,
but these costs are really starting to add up."
John laughed- I laughed
AND
even the Doctor had to laugh.
I do think laughter heals a lot of wounds!
As you can see- the nut doesn't fall
too far from the tree.

I hope YOU are managing and keeping OK , it is hard for the partner too. As you say, a little laughter goes a long way!
ReplyDeletePretty blue tree!

Thank you Diana for this update. I am soooo happy John was able to be home for Christmas. That in itself was a blessing. My prayers are with you, John and your family. (Especially that crazy-funny son of yours...lol What a blessing he is to you guys!!) I'm signing off with love and ((hugs))! Happy New Years!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update on John, Diana. I have been praying for John, you and all of his family. I will be saying a special prayer on the 4th, as I will be meeting with my surgeon and radiologist on that day as well. I completely agree about laughter, and I guess the nut truly didn't fall far from the tree! Friends and family are essential, because it does truly "take a village" to fight the cancer demon. As the chief caregiver, please take care of yourself, too.
ReplyDeleteI wish you much happiness in the New Year, the biggest & best being the announcement that John is "cancer free!" It will take awhile to get there, but you have to keep your eye on-the-PRIZE!
Warm hugs and prayers,
Carol
Diana, I continue to keep you and your hero in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that 2016 brings you much health and happiness.
ReplyDeleteOh Diana, I pray that all of the treatments work on you husband and that he gets well. Take care of yourself and praying for you too!!
ReplyDeleteChristmas at HOME---in this season of bustle and buy and do and go and cook and wrap, we seldom stop to think of the simple blessing of being AT HOME for Christmas. What a lovely beginning of this New Year.
ReplyDeleteNine and a half years ago, we embarked on this same scary, brave, rewarding journey, and here we are, all well and together, these many years later. I'm thinking of you every day, every step, as you face this challenge together, and wish you close hearts, easy days, sweet sleep and quiet minds as you gain strength and health and healing every day.
rachel
You all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for giving us an update so we can celebrate the daily victories with you. God bless you and your Hero, and may 2016 be your best year yet!
ReplyDeleteNothing but Love and Prayers...God's Perfect Blessings upon you all.
ReplyDeleteOh Diana, I love your optimism! You are an inspiration to me.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Healing is healing! Praying and believing right along with you. Maybe you can get your grands and daughter to put Christmas away with you. Then it could be "an event" instead of a chore. Right. I am given to magical thinking. Ha! I had no idea that your Beloved's name is John. Now how cool is that?! It will be easy for me to remember. Take good care of yourself. It's a marathon and not a race so pace yourselves...
ReplyDeleteThank God for the nuts that bring some laughter to serious situations. Limbo is a great word to describe cancer treatment. It makes you learn patience! I am glad he is home and that you have some time together there are home. I AM PRAYING FOR EVERYONE! May this be a great and healing new year. Love, sandie
ReplyDeleteI'm still praying for your sweet husband. Healing is healing and every good and perfect gift comes from God. Keep trusting Him. He never fails. Hugs my friend . . . . .
ReplyDeleteI love that you ended your post with laughter Diana.Bless you both as you begin the New Year with fighting this illness. We shall continue to lift you up in prayer. Hugs for your New Year. Keep the laughter flowing......
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update. Blessings, love and prayers to you and your husband for 2016! {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteI have been so out of the loop that I am just now hearing about this. I will be praying. For both you, and your hero - and for your family as well.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear from you. Yes, you are right, laughter is good for the soul except it is hard to find at times. May you and entire family find peace, understanding of what is happening and richly blessed during the New Year.My sister is going through some difficult times with her husband. I have been there but at least mine did not suffer a lot. Hang in as it will get better.
ReplyDeletePraying for you and your family always.

I'm so glad to hear that John is progressing well. I know you must be eager to start killing the cancer soon! My Christmas was a little blue because my mil passed away on Christmas Eve. She had been sick and bed ridden for a very long time so it was expected. But the timing out a damper on the holidays. Her funeral was yesterday. Hoping to have a better 2016 for both of us!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update. It's funny how I care so much for someone I haven't met in person, only thru a blog.
ReplyDeletePrayers for all of you....

It was good to hear your up date, and such a blessing that your hero was able to spend his Christmas was those he loves surrounded by blues and pinks joy and laughter.
ReplyDeleteMay God continue to strengthen, encourage and bless each one of you in these days that you are all facing.
Though sometimes we find ourselves in God's "waiting room" it can seem forever long, but remember, He is right there with you holding you in the palm of His hand.
Sending you hugs, my friend.
Diana I am so sorry to see this just now and am very hopeful your hero will conquer all and return to health. You have the best attitude in the world as usual and I'm sure it brings him comfort while you wait to begin treatments. Wishing you both the best and sending prayers from Boston, your friend Amy
ReplyDeleteDiana, keep hoping for a miracle. You are such a positive person, and my wish for the new year for you is joy and love and so much peace. Saying a prayer for your husband..........and You.

ReplyDeleteGive that big ole Ryan a big hug for me. So happy you have your wonderful family around you to keep the light on a dark situation. So happy John is doing better and was able to be home and share the holiday with all of you. That positive step had to make his recovery journey much better. Hoping next week they will be able to start his treatments and John will be one step closer to being healed and back into life again.
ReplyDeletePraying my friend. Have a wonderful evening tonight and wishing you better days ahead as we ring in the new year.

ReplyDeleteOMGosh, Diana! I've been busy and am just now seeing this. I read previous posts so I could catch up with you. Will definitely be praying for your Hero - we know healing comes through god, regardless of the method. Here's a big, tight ((HUG)) for you. yEs, cancer affects the entire family and your Hero is blessed to have you on his team.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! I have been thinking about you guys and pray for you whenever you come to mind. I wanted to check in but didn't want to bug you during Christmas and your family time together. So happy to hear that your humor (and your son's) is intact! Blessings to you! xoxo
ReplyDeleteSuch a difficult thing to be going through, this battle with cancer. However, I know that your faith will pull you all through. Prayer is power and there is plenty of that going up to our Lord for your husband. Your tree is gorgeous and I don't see why you should take it down so soon. Just leave it there for the whole month of January. During the dark months of winter, it's uplifting to see its lights. I always keep mine well into February. You and your husband will remain in my thoughts and prayers. A friend who has no computer and does not want one is mailing me a special prayer for cancer patients. As soon as I receive it, I will be adding it to my daily prayers for your husband and I will also e-mail you a copy of it. She told me that it's a powerful prayer. Take care and hang in there. Our Lord is with you and your husband through this tribulation. Please believe that. He must love you so much. How can he not. You are such a special person.
ReplyDeleteThank you for keeping us updated, Diana...sending you all the good!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update Diana. Glad the infection is getting better so the cancer tx can start soon. Wonderful that he was able to come home for Christmas! Prayers for healing.

So jelly over your blue flocked Christmas tree. Happy New Years...
ReplyDeleteI will continue prayers for your hubby. I have one friend who just finished her final chemo treatment (#12) today and now waits to see if she will need radiation. Another was just declared cancer free! And my mom is doing well with her cancer treatment. Seems to be an epidemic. I hold all in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteKeep the hope and don't give up.
So glad to read your update and see that your hero is out of the hospital. It takes a while to get over a tenacious infection, but modern antibiotics are amazing. My husband recovered from a C. diff hospital-acquired infection last year, but it was the second antibiotic the doctors tried that actually cured him of it. Fortunately, they have more than one medicine in their arsenal! Hugs and prayers!

Que le chemin de l’année 2016 soit parsemé d’éclats de joie, de pétales de plaisir, qu’il soit éclairé par la l’étincelle de l’amour et la lueur de l’amitié.
ReplyDeleteBonne et heureuse année !
Oh I do love a family who has a great sense of humor! It is a gift from God that I think we pass on to our kids. It does make life richer, don't you think! Good news in the update. And here's to a year of many blessings as God works through rest, medicine, and his spirit to bring healing to John and a great 2016 to look back on next year. xoxo from western Wisconsin!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana! The ability to laugh and smile is such a gift and is something that will make this journey you are on a bit easier to bear. I am so happy you were able to celebrate Christmas with your family, too. Continued prayers and positive thoughts. It's a leap year this year, so there is one more day for good things to happen! Jane
ReplyDeleteIt was great that he came home for Christmas. I know he is getting more rest in his own bed, better food, and lots of joy from being with family at Christmas. Being home will help bring back his strength.
ReplyDeleteThose pic lines are amazing. My husband had to have one for a while this fall. I couldn't believe it when I found out that the tube was 18 inches long. The visiting nurse removed it here at home. When she got it out she measured it to make sure the whole length of tube was there and none had broken off. It was there, all 18 inches of it!
I am sending positive, healing thoughts your way.
Susie D.
Thinking of you and John with positive thoughts and prayers Diana!
ReplyDeleteI am so, so late-but it doesn't mean that you haven't been in my thoughts and prayers-because you have.
ReplyDeleteThis move about did us in, especially at Christmas!
I am sending healing prayers and thinking of you always,

Thank you so much for the update. I'm so glad your hubby was able to be with family for Christmas. What a gift that was. Speaking of gifts, I can see that your son got your gift of humor. I would have laughed out loud if I'd been there. Keep smiling and we'll keep praying.
ReplyDeleteI came by tonight hoping to see an update. So glad your Hero is home where he belongs! Being in familiar surroundings with those he loves had to be an important step in the healing process. I'm so happy you were all able to be together on Christmas. Continuing to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

ReplyDeleteWell, I've been in my own little bubble and I just had no idea. Tonight your face popped into my head so I thought I'd come pay you a visit. I'm so, so sorry to hear this news but am sending you guys strength and healing thoughts and prayers. And I have to say I love that story about your son it reminds me of something that happened when my daddy was dying in the hospital and was at this time in a coma from several strokes and it was just a matter of time. And the hours and days just dragged by and I remember turning to my momma and saying "a watched pot never boils" and I'm sure it sounds terrible but we were just punchy with grief, exhaustion and stress and our family isn't quite right anyway and she just looked at me and we burst out laughing until we cried. He passed away that night. I've never been sure if I should have been ashamed or glad I said it! ;) Love to you lady.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you! Hugs and prayers from Charleston way!
ReplyDeleteWhat a joyful update dear Diana! How glad I was to read that your dear John is home, and that you are all still finding things to laugh about! Laughter indeed really is the best medicine! I will continue praying that the Lord helps you through these days ahead and that a true medical miracle will take place for John, and that he will be completely healed! Keep laughing friend, and trusting in the Lord... He is with you! And thank you for the update (sorry I'm late getting over here, took some time off during the holidays, but have certainly not quit praying for you all!) Much love to you :)
ReplyDeleteDiana, bowing my head right now to pray for your Hero to have strength on this journey......And keep the costs down lol!
ReplyDeleteLove you
Carol

ReplyDeleteNot sure how I missed this post Diana, just due to holiday craziness I guess...I actually saw it accidentally on facebook today (not sure why we sometimes see each other there and sometimes not). Anyway, not sure what I can say that no one has already said but just know the prayers are flowing like water out there and miracles happen every day:) I always knew there was a reason we never had cats. xoKathleen
