I will do an update
without going into too much detail today.
There is much to tell you but I want
to get a basic post out there to
keep you all in the loop.
MyHero was admitted to the ICU
with a massive infection in the area
of the mass on his neck
on Monday night.
The mass is on the left side but
I thought I would spare you that.
You can see the swelling is already
coming down around and is under
his neck-moving now to his right side.
He has been moved from ICU to
the medical floor and will be
in the hospital until the middle of next week.
He is off oxygen
and able to eat soft food
for the first time
in about 8 days!
Notice his arm?
To put it in simple terms-
the IV dislodged
and his arm filled with saline solution.
Just a minor "tick" in the world of medicine..
painful but not harmful.
We have been praying for a miracle.
Did we get one?
Maybe- in a sense we did.
The Drs. all thought the huge mass on
his neck was cancer growing at a super rapid pace.
It IS growing fast but a large part of the mass
was infection.
Another "miracle"?
The PET scan.
The Drs. warned us that the PET scan
"could" light John up
(like a Christmas tree-)
(like a Christmas tree-)
that his body was most likely
FULL OF CANCER.
There is NO OTHER CANCER,
that they can see,
in his body.
They could not believe that.
Neither can we.
The cancer team went from
"cautious approach for long-term success
and possible pallative care"
to
YOU CAN BEAT THIS WITH
AGGRESSIVE TREATMENT.
So, that is what we are going to do.
We are going to hit the ground and
run hard.
He will have 37 radiation treatments-
5 days a week for 7 weeks+.
We can do this!
We need to get this infection under control
so we can move forward into treatment.
Praying for another little miracle there.
I was going to close the comments
but started getting them anyway-
lol- so I am opening them up again.
(you guys---shheeesshhh--
you can find me no matter where I am)
but started getting them anyway-
lol- so I am opening them up again.
(you guys---shheeesshhh--
you can find me no matter where I am)
I will keep you all posted
as we move along.
Thank you so much for all the prayers
and good thoughts.
I am overwhelmed and so is
MyHero.
Just so you know-
We have had
ALL THE DOCTORS LAUGHING
at one point or another.
THAT is another small MIRACLE!
There is not a lot of laughter
on these floors.
Have a blessed week leading up to Christmas!
My super kids are picking up all the pieces
to make Christmas special for all of us-
shopping, cooking, baking,
wrapping gifts and doing it ALL!
What a blessing!!
In spite of all of this pain and angst-
we are blessed!
Love you all-Thanks again!
Diana it is the best news and prayers are being answered. Many more will be lifted for John and you in the days ahead. I pray the next 7 weeks goes by quick once the treatments begin. Wishing you many blessings and love to all your kids taking on Christmas to make it special for you all. They are the best.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless and Merry Christmas. Love to you,xo

Dear Diana, We are still praying for a miracle for you and your other half. I will keep saying prayers and sending you some long distance hugs. It is hard when you have health issues here at the holidays, but family all pulls together. Just like the family has become my transportation. Take care. Hugs and prayers from your Missouri Friend Shirley

ReplyDeleteI will pray hard for your hubby and I know HE will cure him, as I have so much fate in my Lord Jesus Christ.
Sending you a big hug sweet friend and keep it there, as strong as you are.
Love,
FABBY
Thanks for the update! We all will continue to hold your hubs, you and your entire family in prayer. Hugs sweetie...
ReplyDeleteThose doctors never should have mentioned "it would light him up like a Christmas tree." That is very unprofessional and that obviously turned out not to be the truth. They are supposed to be positive, not scare you. I am so sorry. Will be thinking of you both.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Darling friend, thanks for letting us leave comments of love and support. The treatment will be hard, as you said, and the results will be beautiful, I believe. I had a medical procedure recently and told the doctor I have prayer warriors praying, I think good doctors like to know that. You two are surrounded in prayer.
ReplyDeletePraise to be to God on High!
ReplyDeleteThis is REALLY GREAT news, love.
Hugs to you and yours! ♥♥♥
PRAISE GOD!!!! So glad to hear the GREAT news!! Sending a super big hug to you both and take care.♥♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteYou are all in my prayers and apparently all our prayers are being heard. Try and have a Merry Christmas and let the rest of us pray and worry for you.
ReplyDeletePatty
Praying for y'all and I appreciate your taking the time for an update!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to get an update. Have been thinking of you. Sometimes doctor makes mistake. He has a higher power looking on him to. You both take care and may your Christmas turn out a little brighter.
ReplyDeleteHappy to read the positive news and continue to keep you in thought and prayer. There is no doubt in my mind that you would spread laughter where every you are, Diana. ;-)
ReplyDeleteDiana,
ReplyDeleteYou really have to know how much I have praying for your husband and for you. And this news from you, well, I think that it just goes to show that the doctors like to prepare you for the worst, so you really have to wait a while to know what it is that is REALLY going on with the patient!!
I know you are busy but I have to tell you this...my sister was told that she had had a heart attack.
Did she panic? Was she worried or concerned? NO! She simply said, "Well, you better go back and check your records, that's wrong!" And guess what, she was RIGHT! She had NOT had a heart attack, they had made a mistake! Hang in there! Don't forget your prayer warriors! xx Love, Kay P.S. I bet the doctors and nurses love you both for your laughter and positive vibes.
Thanks be to God for these miracles, and the love and the laughter, and the family taking care of family and you and your hero. May the Lord bless and keep you all and may His healing power flow through your hero in a mighty way as you fight this thing. Xoxoxo, love you, Connie
ReplyDeleteOh Diana, what joy filled my heart to see this post, and hear that John is doing so well in spite of so many scares! That is just what the Lord does, brings us joy and laughter in those difficult moments, and that helps us through the scary times! I can only imagine the stories you will have to tell us one day when you have time... wherever you are, there are smiles abounding, and I know this situation is no different! I am giving PRAISE to the LORD for the amazing reports that you are getting, and will continue to stand with you and believe that John will be completely healed of this cancer when his radiation treatments are done! Your family is such a treasure, stepping up to take care of things while this is happening. Diana, please know that your entire family are in our prayers, and we are standing and believing with you for more miracles, and more disbelief on the doctor's faces when the miraculous keeps happening! Keep everyone laughing girl... laughter truly is the best medicine. Love you so much!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for taking the time to update us! I sent you an email earlier today. :) There is great power in collective prayer and the PET scan is evidence. God can do what Drs can't! We're all here supporting you and I'm so glad your kids have stepped up and handling Christmas for you...that's awesome!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're both laughing ~ that helps in healing too.
xo

ReplyDeleteThis is such wonderful news Diana, as my dearest and I have been praying daily for your Hero and his healing. He looks very handsome in his hospital bed. We will continue to pray that the radiation treatment and God's hand completely takes care of this old ugly cancer. Hi Diana,
ReplyDeleteSigh, I was thinking about you tonight and came by to see if there was any updates and I was so happy to hear that there is positive now! It will be a fight, like you said...but your husband can beat this!
My thoughts and prayers are with you friend, and I am thinking about you lots and lots!
Big Hugs to you!!
Kimberley
Much love and many prayers.....
ReplyDeleteOh wow...what great news!! Will keep praying and sending you guys positive thoughts and love. Merry, merry Christmas my friend. xo
ReplyDeleteStill praying for you guys...your hero is fighting a hard battle but sounds like the news is going in the right direction. {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteWhat great news and a relief. Pet scans are great and I believe almost anyone should have one done. The cancer does light up. That's how they found my thyroid cancer, the same time they found the ovarian cancer 2 years ago. I pray he is strong and will come through this strong. Radiation 7 days a week is a burden, but if it works, then it is all worth it. Hang in there and enjoy the Christmas season. XO
ReplyDeleteThanks be to God! I will continue to keep you all in my prayers...I have a LONG drive ahead of me this weekend so I'll have extra time to pray. :-) Bless you!
ReplyDeleteOf Diana, I am so happy for you and hubby! Heaven is so close to earth this time of year. Big or small miracles are always in our life. So happy that you can discern them. xx Jo
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news! The entire congregation of my church is praying for your Hero and you too! God is so good. We will continue to pray for healing.
ReplyDeleteMiracles do happen and God is holding you both in the palm of His hand. Wish I were there to give you a big old hug. You and your Hero are strong in every sense of the word, and you DO have this! Prayers are being sent up from Chicago, and for what it's worth I know God LOVES Chicago! Hang in there. We are all with you. xoKathleen
ReplyDeleteGood news! You and your whole family are in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteDianna,
ReplyDeleteYes, miracles do happpen , my friend!! Attitude can play a big part in those miracles too. As a staff nurse for 37 years, I have seen it happen to those who have a good attitude. I know this can get you all down but please rememeber that you can work hard and beat this beast!! Wishing you the merriest Christmas you can have. Hey! You have already gotten better news, right??? And no other cancer is such a blessing!!
Many Hugs to you,
Deb

ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful news. As difficult as it all is, keeping your sense of humor will help. Hopefully, your hero will be home for Christmas and the love from your family will add to that healing. Radiation treatment will start in my family also in January and hopefully in eight or nine weeks, life will be better for us all.
ReplyDeleteMay the good lord bless you all. This indeed is very good news...prayers are being heard. Bigs hugs and many blessings for your Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update and we'll continue to pray ! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you sweet lady Di for up dates for your Hero. Keeping humor flowing is the way to do it.And having Drs included is really a miracle. Love you and your family.
ReplyDeleteGive your hero a big hug from Us Canadians. Only a gentle hug. We love your Hero. And prayer becomes miracles with us all in one accord. May the Lord give you a nice Christmas and your Grands. Pray life will be one happy Laughs at Christmas for hero. He can join in as well. Off I go and get dressed. Company coming for 11. o'clock Lunch. Sid made his special Pea soup as our best friends love his soup. Then dessert after with strong coffee and laughter to join us. Then present exchange. Then off we go next Thursday to our family. Melissa is singing at the church with brother Christmas Eve. Have been to two Christmas fun times at the Apt here. A happy lot of wonderful caring people. The best move we decided to make. Merry Christmas Di xxoo.
You have an amazing attitude Diana, but of course, you're right...you can, and WILL , do this! If laughter is indeed the best medicine, your hero is getting the best care in the possible ;).
ReplyDeleteGod is our great Physician. Praises to Him for the healing He has already given!

Oh, My Darlin' Dear!
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief to hear such wonderful news, and to have such a great support group all around you! I've been sending you my very best thoughts and many tiny moments of prayer in this busy, frantic week of Grands in the house.
Must hurry, but am sending you great wishes for such ease of mind and sweet rest from all the worry for you both. God bless those healing hands, all your wonderful supportive family and friends, and both of you in this time of work and caring and healing.
love and,
rachel
I am SO glad to hear of your miracles, Diana! They are miracles indeed! You guys have been in the forefront of my thoughts and prayers, and I am SO happy to hear your good news! I will be praying that the infection goes away so that your Hero can get on with his treatments. And that he'll be able to come home in time for Christmas. We just got home late last night and Celestina mentioned you did a post.
ReplyDeleteLove you lots!
Donna
Bless his heart! I'm so glad to get an update. I can only imagine how difficult this has been on all of you. I hate knowing he will be in the hospital on Christmas Day!! Such good news that his mass is partly fluid and not all cancer. So glad to hear that it hasn't spread either! As long as there is hope you have something to hang on to. Thank goodness for your kids taking over and bringing you a good Christmas as well. Where would we be without our kids?! Thinking of you this week and hope you will have a blessed Christmas and more good health news next week.
ReplyDeleteContinuing to pray for your hero, you and your family. Will he be home for Christmas? Hero has the greatest gift...you right beside him .
ReplyDeleteSuch great news! I told you that rainbow was a good sign. :) Continuing to pray for all of you. xoxo
ReplyDeleteDiana,
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers have been with you and your hero. A miracle yes, isolated and in one place is a true blessing considering what could of shown in the scan. As you go through this day by day may strength and blessings guide you. Always in my prayers I send you, your hero and family love.
xoxo,
Vera
I am so glad that things are not as bad as everyone thought - miracles do happen!
ReplyDeleteDiana, my thoughts and prayers continue to be with you both. As you know, my scans came back all clear this year. And, after a scare so did Brooke's. We have seen Him work in our midst and know he works in all circumstances for the good of those who love Him. We have been witnesses to many miracles taking place even today, and we will pray for yet another one. When so many come together to pray great things happen. So thankful for your sweet kiddos devotion to you both, and their helpfulness...will be praying for them as well. Love you sweet friend! And, I am going to say it despite the circumstances...Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteDiana, it is so good to hear some good news in all of this! Praise God for his blessings to us! Continuing to keep you guys in our prayers. I'll say another little prayer for YourHero too, that he won't kill his wife for taking all these hospital photos of him. :-) Many blessings on you two. So wonderful to have family, isn't it! And God still does miracles... xoxo
ReplyDeleteoh...so the card I sent out today may not be relevant in parts, but...and I'm just hoping it will get to you guys. I had lost your address so I tracked you down via Google. I even had to read the minutes about a meeting re. trees in the park to find it! LOL
ReplyDeleteOMG, I am so glad I missed the first post and just came in on the one with good news! Well, OK not great but, I guess you have to get really bad news to appreciate the not so bad news and actually good news. Since it has not spread you guys are in GREAT shape (Said this old nurse) give it all you got, hit it with all guns firing and you will lick this thing. Stopping right now to say a prayer for strength. love and of course laughter!!!
ReplyDeleteCarol
Diana...oh what wonderful news! Yes, there are miracles everyday and it sounds like you guys are seeing one!! smile.... My prayers continue you both!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Gert
Diana, this is great news, and I know you guys will come out OK. The radiation seems difficult having to go 5 days a week, but it's the only way. Don't let him skip a treatment. Big hug to both of you...
ReplyDeleteAmazing! You can do this and when you think you can't remember that God will carry you. Bless those kiddos of yours for hopping in and making Christmas happen. Sending love and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear it is infection and not a huge fast growing mass. Also glad he went from ICU to a medical floor. That is always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI know all those trips in for radiation treatment sound like a lot but I am praying for you all through this. Thank you for the update and allowing us to comment. Sometimes some of the best medicine is the prayers and good thoughts from family and friends.
Dear Diana, thank you so much for the update on your husband. I am praying for him every day and for you to keep strong through all this. I am so very sad that this had to happen to such a wonderful man. I will keep on praying as long as needed, Diana! Please take care and God bless your wonderful family. The Lord loves you, Diana, I know that for sure. I have always thought that you are such a special person. You are in my thoughts, you and your husband. Hang in there. You are not alone. Many people carry you in their hearts as you have carried them in yours. I do believe in miraculous healings. Absolutely!
ReplyDeleteSweetest Diana, Yes, miracles do exist....and many more to come your way! You and your Hero keep laughing....hugs and prayers, Roxie
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I am so happy for you. It sounds like only one area needs to be adressed. That is wonderful news. I clean in the diagnostic area of a local hospital (PET, CT, X-ray, ultra sound etc.). I will pray for your family that more miracles come your way. Scary times, but just remember that you have family and friends who love you.
ReplyDeletePraying, praising and sending you love,
ReplyDeleteLily
I think you already know how I feel.....keep positive, gather your cheerleaders, and keep on praying! How wonderful that there is no other cancer. You can count on me to be one of yours & John's cheerleaders, and I will be praying for both of you.

ReplyDeleteYou have so been in my thoughts and prayers. Glad there was some positive news and the 2 of you can do this dear one. Continue prayers and hugs your way
ReplyDeleteIt is good news not to be anywhere else in his body! Radiation usually doesn't make you sick, does it? But not fun to do for sure. I'll continue to keep you in my prayers and at least enjoy you are together for the holidays, not at home, but together. May God keep you both safe!
ReplyDeleteThat is good news. Still praying for you for more miracles. Merry Christmas to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for the good reports Diana. The radiation will be over with in the blink of an eye. I'm praying for complete healing for your HERO. Nothing is too hard for God!Don't forget to take care of yourself along the way.
ReplyDeleteLove, Teresa
Oh, Diana! I've been off blogging so long that I had no idea! This does seem to be some good news from the doctors, and I hope the radiation will take care of all of it! Sending along my hugs, thoughts, and prayers for both you and your Hero! Blessings, Nellie
ReplyDeleteOh, he looks so good in the second photo! You got your miracle and this next part will take some doing, but you guys can do this! Hey, John! You know you are blessed! Hang in there, I am hoping the really "fun" part is over. I hope you get to come home for Christmas. If not, that group of yours will be flooding that floor! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you both got more positive reports. I will be praying that your husband's infection is resolved and the treatments begin and are successful. Take care of yourself, let your family help out however they can. Wishing you a blessed Christmas and more good news as the days go on.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the update and praise God for this better news than you expected. I am not surprised that you have managed to make the doctors laugh! Merry Christmas to you and your dear hubby and all the family.
ReplyDeleteHi my dear, I'm kinda reluctant to burden you with comments but I wanted you to know you still are in my prayers, for the infection to go, for the approach you are taking and of course for a complete all clear ( not underestimating the long journey of treatment that has to be made, it is so tough).
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with us and your loveable humor -amazing! and honesty. You have my admiration.
Blessings on yourHero. Blessings on you and your family, I will be thinking of you.
Xx
I'm so excited what God is doing - and know, too the joy of finding that alot of what is seen on those "tests" is infection. 10 months ago, and after being diagnosed with lung cancer and mets to the liver...I was surprised and happy when the doctors announced that EVERYTHING seen on the "tests" was infection and there was no cancer in my husband's body. PTL for all of us! A month later, is when hubby decided to walk away from our home, our pups and me and never turn back...never a phone call...nothing. But God blessed me again, with a new life. I'm really living again after years of stuff I'd rather leave in the past. PTL!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jan ♥

ReplyDeleteKathy (from Reflections by Kathy)
This is such good news although I'm sure he is very uncomfortable. It's amazing how doctors can think they are so right sometimes but they aren't. Their knowledge and skill is such a gift to us though. Many prayers for you and your husband.
ReplyDeleteYou are in my prayers..wish I could give you a big hug.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing news. So happy for a little goods news for you. Something very similar to my friend that had jaw cancer. She had a big infection as well. SO glad that nothing showed up in the PET scan. I love hearing that you can beat this. Yeah, for the kids taking over. You do so much for them and they appreciate it. I hope your hubby gets home to celebrate the holidays. May Christmas HUGS to you and your sweet family.

ReplyDeleteDiana I am just getting over here to check in and am so thankful the cancer is less than they first thought. Infections are scary too but they can do wonders those Doctors and I believe they are. Most importantly is the faith you both have...to believe is greater than to hope....so keep believing, trusting and surrendering.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas
