If you want funny you won't find it here today
because I am remembering the
911 tragedy that touched all our lives.
I think every single one of us remembers where
we were the moment we heard about what
had happened in NYC at
The World Trade Center.
We were enjoying the last few days of summer
and living in a house we had built on the
Ahnapee River in Algoma, Wisconsin.
I was on my way to Green Bay and
stopped at McDonalds to get a
cup of coffee.
Did you hear? asked the server
with a horror stricken look on her face.
She then proceeded to tell me what she knew.
I turned around and went home and stayed
glued to the TV for three days straight.
watching the tragedy unfold.
The tragedy united us in a way nothing else
ever had.
We were proud to stand together,
man to man, woman to woman,
race to race and
citizen to citizen.
We were proud to
declare that we were one.country
indivisible by ANY terrorist attack.
Let us remember that today.
Let us remember those 2,996 people
that lost their lives needlessly that day.
Salute a solider.
Shake a policeman's hand.
Thank a firefighter.
Say a prayer for all those still grieving.
Let us stand united yesterday
today and tomorrow.
I am proud to be an American
God bless us all.
Loved your words. Nothing but death will ever erase the burden of sadness and pride of country I feel on this date every year. We were getting ready for work in Washington state. My husband and I went to work due to responsibilities (we worked at a nuclear facility), but my 10 a.m. I walked into my bosses office (the director of the facility) and said put me on leave or fire me, but I'm going home. I talked to each of my daughters and then went to bed for two days. I was so heartsick and that place in my heart has never healed. My husband and I completely changed our lives within 6 months -- new jobs in a new state, new house, new vehicles, new friends -- it was like a rebirth. I think the 9/11 terrorists wanted to make us afraid, but they took away any fear I'll ever have again. Thanks for letting me share.
ReplyDeleteI was picking peas with my pastor's wife and she got a call, her dad worked at the Pentagon. He was fine thank the Lord, like you, we stayed glued to the TV in shock over it all. I'm watching the History channel now, it's still hard to imagine it all.
ReplyDeleteI still remember the day and how I felt as the news unfolded. We were having coffee at the kitchen table and a very stunned Katie Couric and Matt Laurer broke in with the shocking news. We sat stunned and an uneasy feeling settled in my body like never before. You are right- our country became united like never before. I know none of us will forget.
ReplyDeleteA day that will never be forgotten!! My dad was in the hospital and saw the smoke from his window...that tragedy hit so close to home!!
ReplyDeleteI so remember! I work for American Airlines. Huddled around TV's at work. Changed all of our worlds forever. Had to teach at church that night to middle school aged kids. We linked hands and prayed and sang. Still makes me tear up.
ReplyDeletePraying in chapel today. xo
ReplyDeleteLet us never ever forget! God bless America!
ReplyDeleteCannot believe that it has been 13 years....still feels like it was yesterday....Praying for all the families who lost their loved ones...they will always be in our hearts!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shirley, it still feels like yesterday! I remember I was doing my school when a friend of mine called me up and asked me if I had heard - I hadn't since the TV and radio was not on. I was shocked by the events unfolding. . .
ReplyDeleteThank you for this heart-felt post, dear Diana! Hugs to you!
I was watching Good Morning America when it was interrupted for a special bulletin, live coverage. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I will never forget the horror. Remembering those who gave up their lives and all the survivors.

Beautiful words Diana. Let us not fail to continue to pray every day.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe it has been thirteen years; it seems like it was only yesterday. Sending prayers for our country and the families that lost loved ones on this day.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Diana. I was taking my then ten year old daughter to school when the story started to unfold. Prayers always for all touched by this tragedy and for our country.
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible day that was and so sad for everyone that lost someone. Wishing you a nice day today.
ReplyDeleteIt was a day that changed our world, here in the west and all over Europe. The horror, the loss, the sadness will always be remembered.
ReplyDeleteDiana,
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written on this day of remembrance. I was making myself a cup of coffee when John called from work with a tone in his voice that I had never heard - "Vera, turn on CNN" A day our lives as Americans changed, some innocence stripped away and trust frayed. This past weekend we visited dear friends in NYC ... I pride myself on observation, I looked for signs of increased police and federal level security, none of which I saw or was aware of. Although I am certain it was beefed up but silent, diligent with a watchful eye. God bless our country.
Diana thank you for your personal email, it meant a lot to me. Your kindness and understanding is a beautiful trait of yours.
XO,
Vera
Let us never forget!
ReplyDeleteI was just waking and turned on the tv to GMA ..and watched the 2nd plane hit live ....
God bless America always..
Praying for our country today......
ReplyDeleteFor months after 9/11 whenever I saw a plane flying over our house (we lived near Schiphol airport in The Netherlands), I "saw" it crash into a tall building. That horrible image was imbedded in my brain! Horrible! Horrible! Linda@Wrtcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteI do remember this well, it was such a sad time in the world. I can't believe you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing. You have a better memory than me, that's for sure. This is a very nice post in remembrance of it all. Thank you for that, Diana.
ReplyDeletelove,

Well said, Diana..I used to go swimming at the local "Y" every morning..I walked in to the "Y" and everyone was glued to the TV..The Towers had just been hit..It was thought that it was just an accident and that a small plane had gone off course...The magnitude didn't sink in right away...Sad time
ReplyDeleteThank you for this, Diana. I have been listening to the names read off of ones lost on that horrible day. It is hard to imagine how many years have passed and yet, we are still fighting the good fight. Hope it never gets that bad again. I was on my way to work when heard it on the car radio. My job was running a very big and loud copy machine and I had a hard time hearing the radio on in the office but listened the best I could. Quite a great feeling all the flags flying by on every car and in every yard. We still fly our flag and always will. God Bless America..Judy
ReplyDeleteNever Forget!
ReplyDeleteUnited We Stand, Forever !!
amen to that,
ReplyDeleteThank you Diana for this wonderful post. I don't think I will ever forget where I was and what I was doing. Being in charge of a travel department with over 150 employees travel - I was scared to death that we had lost someone. Thank God we didn't, but my heart was breaking for all that had lost a loved one.
ReplyDeleteA man I worked with, his sister was the American Airlines rep taking tickets for that flight that went down. That man that was on that flight was in her face trying to get on early, but he was too early. He was bugging her so bad that she almost did not let him board. Needless to say she was devastated when the plane crashed. Poor lady was in therapy for a long time. So we all have terrible memories of that worst in our lives.
God Bless America - I still have my flag flying in the front yard.
Mary
My BIL's birthday is today - the day is forever tainted for him especially.
ReplyDeleteHe celebrates on a different day now.
We all have heavy hearts.
Diana,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. It was a horrific day in our country and I agree I think everyone remembers where they were and what they were doing on this tragic morning. Being married to a firefighter it brings that reality that this could have happened almost anywhere and first responders are always the ones running in when everyone else is running out. So many wonderful men and women gave their lives to try and save others and so many innocent human beings just doing their jobs and were in the wrong place that morning paid dearly. I pray for all the people that lost their lives that day and all the families that miss them.
Kris
I remember how horrid it was to watch on t.v. Everyone was in shock and no one was sure what would happen next. You are right in that it united our country like nothing every had before. I pray it will never happen again. Love your new profile picture-you've let your hair get long.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
I know I felt such a huge loss. At first I was so worried as my best friends daughter who is like a daughter to me was there in that building once a month because he company had offices there. She was supposed to be there that day, but had flown home to Oregon the day before, a couple days early! She personally knew people who died there. Thankfully she was not there on that day as was scheduled originally.
ReplyDeleteI feel especially sad for the loved ones of those lost in the horrific terrorist act.
This is a beautiful tribute. I never tire of hearing people's stories of where they were when they heard the news. Somehow, it ties us all together no matter how near or far from each other we were. My heart just aches for those firefighters, mounting stairs, for the last time, with heavy equipment on their backs.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written tribute.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
So very true friend...God Bless America....and God Bless all of those who lost their lives....thinking of their families today......Thank you for this tribute...Nicole xo
ReplyDeleteI was getting ready for work and my son was getting ready for school...I had the TV on and wasn't sure what I was seeing. Was this real?
ReplyDeleteI talked to my son about it before he left so that we would not have to hear it out of the blue at school. And sent him off. I wanted us both to stay home.
I watched a bit more than had to leave. It was very hard to smile and say have a nice day as customers left my store.
I felt like....how dare I smile...how dare I sound happy. Right now it brings tears to my eyes.
God bless this country. Prayers going up for those who have lost loved ones.

It was all so surreal. There's one thing you can say about Americans. We stand together to fight for what is right and we fight for freedom. Wonderful post today, Diana. I'm proud, too. xo Karen
