My generation was affected
by the style of a special
woman...
Lilly Pulitizer.
She was well known for her
brightly colored fabrics
many made into shifts...
usually pink and green.
What most people don't know
is that she developed those prints
to hide the fruit stains that came
from selling produce at her
fruit stand in Palm Beach, Florida.
She was a stylist and a socialite
and, from most accounts,
a kind woman.
I think Jackie Kennedy put her
"on the map" for most people
by wearing her clothing....
a Palm Beach connection that served
both of them well.
Those were the sweet days of Camelot
for many of us.
And-
Margaret Thatcher.
I don't know a lot about her politics.
I do know that she was a strong woman,
served in Parliament
and was called
The Iron Lady.
She was well respected
and stood strong in a man's world.
If you want more info about her
you can find it here.
And, last but not least,
Annette Funicello
She was a Mousekeeter
that stole our hearts and then
went on to make beach movies.
She was a sweet, lovely person
and lost her battle with
Multiple Sclerosis.
Heaven has three new angels.
I hope they all held hands,
wearing pink & green polyester shifts,
wearing pink & green polyester shifts,
going through the gates.
The world will miss them all.
Three amazing women. I love Lilly P the most. May they all rest in peace
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about the third woman and I totally forgot about Lilly! Quite a trio going to heaven this week!
ReplyDeleteYep, I was so sad yesterday. Talk about the end of an era, but Margaret Thatcher was such an amazing thinker and leader. What a loss.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of Lilly Pulitizer until I saw a story on her death. But, as soon as I saw people talking about her I realized, of course, that I had always known her style and brand. All three women will be missed.
ReplyDeletesuch a tender post,
ReplyDeleteI have always said it happens in threes and certainly did this week. Three special ladies indeed.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diana, I think they were 3 very strong independent ladies. I am sure they will be missed. xo,Susie
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet post Diana...they will all be remembered!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
I wonder why deaths come in threes? It's kind of crazy but it does seem to happen that way. Even NILMDTS sessions seem to come in threes in one of the local hospitals here.
ReplyDeleteAnd all 3 have left a mark on the world for such very different reasons... Thier legacies will live on.
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute for these beautiful ladies.
ReplyDeleteWonderful people ! Have a great day !
ReplyDeleteDid not know about Annette Funicello, so sad to hear this!
ReplyDeleteThree special ladies indeed!
I thought exactly the same thing yesterday. What wonderful women. Margaret Thatcher is one of my heroes. I was privileged to hear her speak once; she was brilliant.
ReplyDeleteNote: yesterday a young friend of mine asked me, "Who was Annette Funicello?" I nearly cried.
Good Afternoon Diana, Yes, you are right, so sad to hear of the passing of these ladies.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Thatcher was known as the Iron Lady here in England and she had to be strong to "make it" in a man's world.
Three lovely ladies who will be missed.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Such a very sweet tribute to three special, famous women. My heart was sad to lose Annette... such a Sweetheart of my childhood.
ReplyDeleteHi Diana,
ReplyDeleteYes, heaven does have 3 new angels. All these amazing ladies are inspiring. My mother always said, passing comes in three's. I have seen it many times.
Thank you for this special tribute.
Have a wonderful day.
XO CM
Three special ladies indeed, and each one strong and successful. Thanks for the tribute!
ReplyDeleteI know, yesterday was a sad day. My mom always said it comes in threes and it sure did this week.
ReplyDeleteAnnette Funicello they showed her before she died. Oh my I was so shocked. What a terrible disease that disformed her Beauty.
ReplyDeleteIt showed on the news her in a wheelchair and her hubby taking her for a walk.
She could not talk to him anymore. Her body was so blown up. It cried me to tears. She was my little Annette whom I ran home to see on The weekly show from school as a kid.
I seen all her movies.
Thacher she was iron lady for sure. The other one. I dont recall.
Indeed, three amazing ladies! Lilly P. and Margaret H. the ones I recall the most. So sad!
ReplyDeleteTears in my eyes for Annette, loved her and grew up with her on tv...really sad!
ReplyDeleteHi there, The world has lost some special ladies but as you said, heaven has three very special angels in attendance. Our lives were richer due to their influence.
ReplyDeleteHope you are well; we are having a snow day-such a bummer, I'm ready for warm weather.
Have a great day!
xxxoooNoreen
These losses are so sad. All three women were such big influences on the lives of women our age. It saddens me the most to know how much suffering Annette Funicello went through the last 20 years of her life.
ReplyDeleteAnd let's not forget Roger Ebert, loved (mostly!!) by all, and a Chicago icon. Having wrote for the Chicago Sun Times for 45 years, his picture was the entire cover on Friday. I read each and every article and felt sad for days.
XO,
Jane
Awe ... I love this! Sweet tribute Miss D. (I always LOVED all this Lily P too!)
ReplyDeleteI believe you have brought a great need for us to remember. Amazing women who have earned the respect of us all. We should all want to be a woman of influence!
ReplyDeleteWe are called to be world changers for His glory.
Blessings, Roxy
We are still laughing over your last post!
3 great women for sure
ReplyDeleteIndeed!
ReplyDeleteWonderful women to be sure.
Thoughtful post.
Yes, we will,
ReplyDeleteI adored all three.
ReplyDeleteMaggie will most likely be my most admired woman in my lifetime. I played her final speech at Parliament on You Tube yesterday.

withLove.
I was saddened by this, especially Annette.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't really aware of the designer until recently when I saw an article on her clothing.
I am Caroline Kennedy's age so I think I was more interested in her style than Jackie's
How's the weather over on the East Coast?
ha!
Cindy
Oh, I hadn't heard about any of these. I use to watch the national news while I was on the floor doing my yoga stretches. But then I couldn't get the channel to change from 34. So USA it is.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
What a beautiful tribute to these women, Diana! Each a strong woman who influenced so many. Annette and Lilly Pulitzer especially, part of an era of femininity here. I still have not seen Meryl Streep as Thatcher. Must do that soon. I saw Paul Anka this morning on t.v. talking about having written Puppy Love for Annette.
ReplyDeleteI think every boy I knew when I was young was in love with Annette.
Very thoughtful post here to these ladies. I didn't know that about Ms. Pulitzer, but Margaret Thatcher was an amazing woman and, Annette ... having grown up with the Mouseketeers in the 50's, Annette was a favorite of guys and girls. Everything I read about her I liked. Sad to hear of her passing.
ReplyDeleteAmazing women.
ReplyDeleteI personally have always LOVED Annette. When I was a kid I wanted to BE Annette. I wanted my name to be Annette and I envied her beautiful eyes, her voice, and all the fun she had in the beach party movies. She was the ultimate Mouseketeer. What a strong woman this lovely young gal became.
And I'm sure they are singing "M-I-C-K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E" all the way.
ReplyDeleteJudy
Oh how I loved them!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the last one though... Guess that is what happens when you grow up in a different country. You hear of people you may have never heard of before.
But alltogether! Amazing Woman!
No matter if you were known or not.
We are all amazing!
Every single one of us is making memories, touching someone else,
making a difference, giving without taking...
Because that is what we do...
Have a lovely week Diana.
Sandy
Hi Di,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post and I didn't know about Lilly passing away. I also loved Annette and used to love watching all of the beach movies as a kid.
xoxo
I'm sad for all three of them. I know that Annette was sick for a long time. I don't know what Lilly or Margaret died of. I hope they did not suffer. I am mostly sad for their families because it's always those who are left behind who suffer the most.
ReplyDeleteThey were truly amazing women indeed..They will be missed.
ReplyDeleteMakes me feel sad when we loose people that are special snd that have done so much good.. Three amazing women. Such a nice tribute Diana!
ReplyDeleteOh sweet friend, I didn't know about Annette Funiccelo, the Mousekeeter I used to love and wish I was her, kinda in love with the cute blond boy! God keep these wonderful ladies souls. You wouldn't know, but famous and gorgeous, Sarita Montiel, Hollywood actress from Spain, also died yesterday. Thanks for sharing and for coming by, you know I love your visits! Big hugs,
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Three amazing women, Diana. This is a beautiful tribute to them. xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Lily Pulitizer died too! Wow! So many special women that left their mark on all of us.
ReplyDeleteBless your heart, sweet Diana.
ReplyDeletexo
i also didnt realise that lily pulitzer had passed... how sad. I loved her colours and prints.. so bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Thatcher was not a favourite for many brittish people unfortunatley. She made a whole lot of people suffer terribly. I lived in the uk at the time of her governing and even though i was just a child, i cant forget the sadness she brought for so many. But i am sure she will be forgiven!; none of us is perfect. She did suffer at the end of her life and perhaps she had some regret. We just dont know what others go through do we?
have a fabulous day diana xxx
A great loss. So sad.
ReplyDeleteStrong and impressive women. I've always had great admiration for Mrs. Thatcher. But I'm really hoping they're wearing cotton shirts and blue jeans. They deserve it after all those years of suffering through polyester. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Post. Beautiful women all gone too soon!
ReplyDeleteBless you friend.
Love, Rebecca
I just saw a special about Annette last week,it was shocking. I'm glad she's not suffering any more.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Margaret Thatcher, but I'd never heard of Lily.
May they all rest in peace.
The first lady I don't know but I remember the other two, they we all strong and independent ladies may they rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteMerle.........
What a nice post, Diana. They certainly were three very strong ladies. I didn't know much about Ms. Pulitizer but did kind of keep up with Margaret Thatcher and Annette was always one to watch and seemed like such a lady even as a little girl. In celebrities it seems that death does pretty much always come in threes..Hope you are having a good week..Judy
ReplyDeleteI suppose this post shouldn't make me smile but it does. I guess that means I have nothing but happy thoughts connected to those ladies and that is a true legacy indeed!
ReplyDeletePs - I so wanted to be Annette
One of Grace
ReplyDeleteOne of Strength
One of Humor....
HE is smiling upon them!
Tammy
Three angels indeed, only you forgot, I'm sure they'll all have Mickey ears on!
ReplyDeleteJust got my email back so I'm happy to leave a comment on my favorite blog! I agree with the Anonymous idiot/spammers. I get a ton of them and delete-delete-delete. I admire all three of the women you blogged about. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
ReplyDeleteThese were three strong and accomplished women. Most of all they were ladies.xoGinge
