NOT YOUR NORMAL BEFORE AND AFTER-DID YOU EXPECT NORMAL FROM ME?

There's a story for everything,

isn't there?

My sweet Alana/Lulu and I

were outside on the porch.

It was so hot that we decided to

step inside and sit at the kitchen table.

About five minutes later,

as we were sitting there, we heard a

LOUD POP!

It sounded like someone had run into

the side of our building.

We looked out the window and

couldn't see anything.

I stepped outside to inspect

and found a paint can that had

EXPLODED IN THE HOT SUN!

Seriously?

I mean, I know it says that

CONTENTS ARE COMBUSTIBLE

but--really?  REALLY?

Yep!

Kinda scary to think we could have

gotten plastered with

hot spray paint if we had

still been out there!

After inspecting the damage,

I was able to scrape the paint off

the window.

However, the screen is ruined,

of course.

I called the manufacturer to see how

to get Verde Green paint off brick.

Well, sadly, this is not normal paint.

No, indeedy.

This is paint with 'stone' mixed in it.

So--what can I do to cover up

THIS MESS,

I ask myself.

My smarter self answered.

Well, dummy....you got a door, you know.

Yep I do have one ugly door.

I also have a mirror and my son

has an old porcelain doorknob.

TA DA-

This door is placed right over
the paint on the brick and
attached to the brick wall.

Ir's not done yet~

Nope!  It still has a door knocker that I need to attach

and I think it needs a sweet wreath,

don't you?

I should have waited for a final finished project

but I have been away so long

that I wanted to touch base

before I forget how to blog and use

BeFunky! (Photo Editor)-love it-

AND-

Just for your viewing pleasure,

this is what Verde Green Paint

looks like on brick and soffit and trim.

I still have to scrape the soffit and

window trim and that will have to be touched up.

Oh-and the porch 'floor', too.

Lest you are wondering,

I returned the other

FIVE CANS of VERDE GREEN

to Home Depot.

And that, my friends,

is the story for today.

  1. Oh NOOOO! It sure is a good thing you both weren't out there, Diana! Wow! Have you figured out how to clean up the brick? But on the other hand....it IS a beautiful green! ;)

  2. Well, that's crazy, but only you would figure out such a hilarious way to solve the problem.

    Love,
    Janie

  3. Wow! That really is something strange. Good thing you were indoors when it exploded. It's a pretty colour, just maybe not where you want it.

  4. Well I would say, fortunate that you weren’t
near that explosion. Thinking skin burns,
    eyes, face . . .
Hope the damage to the brick, door can be fixed.
    Be safe!

  5. I'm glad you weren't near ~ total disaster averted!
    Still sending love ~

  6. That's crazy!! I'm glad you were nowhere near it, but it looks like you've come up with a sweet solution! xxoo

  7. What a bizarre story! And you are so creative to have thought of this fix!!

  8. Oh noooooo! I hate paint. I love what it can do, but paint and I have a very contentious relationship. Like dropping an almost full can on my driveway; like seeing my son step back off the ladder into the roller tray; like the cat rubbing up against a freshly painted wall...
Hubby said we should stay away from paint. I called painters to come and paint our entire first floor. $6000! I might have to paint.
What was the intended victim of the verde green paint?

  9. Oh wow, I've read that they can explode but have never heard of it happening. What a mess. I like your fix though. Yes, a wreath would be the perfect finishing touch

  10. Oh dear me! Wow, it’s so good that you were inside, Diana. Only you could come up with such a creative solution! Happy Friday!

  11. Aren't you clever! I wonder how many people will come and knock on your fake door, LOL?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh, wow - what a disaster! But how clever your solution is! Glad you weren't out there when it happened!

  13. the door and mirror are truly creative and a way to hide the brick. no one will know unless we tell them what it hides.. great idea. so happy you were not out there. I am wondering what you were spray painting green that has stone in it, unless I missed it. this could have been so much worse..

  14. They have something called graffiti remover. Our city often uses it on public spaces that have been defaced with spray paint. Might work for you.

  15. I'm so glad both of you went inside! Wow, if something strange can happen it will happen to you. I have some paint cans out in the garden shed and was wondering if it is too hot in there for them. I'd never heard of one exploding until now!

  16. Oh, I'm glad you were able to put a new door in and no one was outside when
the paint can exploded! I like that Verde Green color - kind of looks like a mint color. I still have some white paint on my front porch that apparently was never taken off. Always something to do around the house, isn't there?
I like the window on your door. : )

    Have a good weekend, Diana.

  18. Loved the story! Though it could have been even more disastrous, and I'm so glad you went inside. When life gives you lemons, as you just proved, make lemonade.

  21. I'm so glad you had moved inside and were not the recipients of that paint. I've never heard of paint exploding before. That was a new one to me. Sorry about the work that now needs done, The door is a great idea !

  22. How scary. God had your back on this one. Good thing you were not out there. Love love love the door with the mirror added. I know a cute wreath on there is going to make it even cuter. Happy Friday sweet friend. xoxo

  23. Terrible accident as far as damage to things, so glad it stood alone in the sun. BUT, but what a great idea. I love ingenuity.
And even san blasting would have removed the paint but also the texture of the brick.
Yep quite a bit of work left there, but what a great idea....
Also I will be more careful with spray cans from now on, I do thank you for that bit of information.....
    Love from here,
Sherry & jack, headed for the tax office, I hate to say it but I even prefer the tax office to what you found .:-O

  24. I'm dense..... What else is new???? Anyway, that's just a fake door. Attached to the brick, to cover up where the most paint splashed... Yes?

Wow, it was verrrrrrry lucky, you 2 went inside.

    but!

Now will you believe warnings on cans, etc.? Hmmmmmmm.... >,-)

    Sorry to be dense.

  25. I have never known that could happen! Wow! Must have been extremely hot. I do avoid using mirrors outside as bird will fly into their reflections of plants and sky. Happened to friends so they took mirror away. Glad nobody was hurt!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh my word, that could have been so much worse! Certainly is a creative solution for covering the brick. Can't wait to see the end results. Blessings as you finish cleaning and painting 😊

  27. What a scare! Thankfully you and Lulu had stepped inside!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh no. How annoying...so glad you all were not sitting out there when it exploded! But nice fix - the door will look cute all dolled up. Have a great weekend!

  29. Nice save! The door looks great! Scary to think about that exploding paint, though--thank goodness no one was hurt!

    ReplyDelete
  30. So glad that you were not hurt..either of you..What were you going to paint in the fist place?? I probably would have spot painted the brick with brick red...But the door is a clever idea..Hoe nobody treies to open it..You could put a "robbers welcome " sign on it!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. clever solutions! I wonder what Home Depot says to each other when returns are made, esp. after an explosion of green.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow! Glad you didn't get sprayed with hot paint! Nice save with the door and all! :D

  36. Oh geez, Diana! What a mess. I'm so sorry you have such a mess on your hands. Love your door fix idea though Cute! Jane

  37. Well I guess some might call it "designer brick". I've seen people throw paint on walls and call it art!! I think your "cover up" is so smart!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow, scary stuff. So glad you two weren't outside. I think a pretty wreath will look fabulous. Have a wonderful weekend. Stay out of trouble. xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  39. Turned somtething not so beautiful into a triumph. cheers

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh man, that is terrible! I never knew those paint cans would explode out in the sun like that. I'll be sure never to leave mine outside! Glad you guys weren't outside when it happened though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am just so glad that you all weren't out there, but what a mess. Happy you were able to find a pretty way to cover it up. xo Laura

  42. well, the door looks great. But oh, that paint! I should think you might have a few words for Home Depot when you take back the paint! I need to get some red to spray my bench outside this weekend if it's not too windy. You inspire me.

    ReplyDelete
  43. So thankful that you both were inside when it happened, I wonder what it would take to get that paint off skin? Goodness! Very creative solution for the problem, I love your "old" door, its a great idea! Hugs to you :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. We had that happen on brick long ago, and had a gentleman come with a sand blaster. It works!!

I like how creative you were for the "fix".

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh my word, thank goodness you weren't near it when it exploded.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Goodness me! A good thing you were indoors when it exploded!
I do like the colour though ...

You were very creative in the 'fix' well done.

    All the best Jan

  47. Oh HONEY! THAT is awful and thank goodness you all were being "looked after" and you went out of harm's way. I would not have thought of that either and the same thing would have happened here.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I am glad you were safe. I will keep gas-contained cans in the shade.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I feel this is more or less the old adage of making lemonade out of lemons, but more involved and time consuming. I love that you seem so chill about it!

We have really strict mandates about disposing of certain things like air conditioners and computers. Paint is another thing and my husband and I have NEVER made an effort to dispose of paint cans going back to when we moved in to this house 36 years ago. Darn, what a disaster we could have had. We recently had our entire basement and garage cleaned out and everything went away in the dumpster. And good riddance!!!

Keep up that great job of doing what you do with what's on hand!😊

    Jane

  50. Good gracious, what a mess! I'm thankful that it didn't explode all over you! I think your quick fix is smart with the door.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh No what a mess Diana. I am so glad you both weren't outside when that happened. You seemed to have solved how to fix up the mess.

    ReplyDelete
  52. God certainly protected you. Imagine if you had still been out there! I think the door is a clever touch. Looks great.

  53. Hi Diana, Wow, what a story! I am so glad you and your friend were not hit by the exploding paint! Goodness sakes, it must have been really hot that day! I was happy to see your recent comment on my blog and thank you for the kind words. I appreciated you mentioning Seattle. We have many problems in the "city by the Sound" ... our big challenge now is resolving the homeless crisis. Thank you for mentioning the painted rocks and how your grandgirls created some. Thank you for mentioning the web page devoted to that ... I'm going to try to find it. Take good care and be well. Best wishes to you from Seattle! John

  54. All I can say is WOW!
Good no one was hurt...and it is just "paint"....
    My goodness!!
so good to hear from you...I had all but given up....
I am online so little these days...and FB...only to check in with my sister on IM as that and the phone are the only way to touch base there....
My hubby had surgery on 2 hernias which of course caused other things to happen...so we've been busy. Today is the first day in months that I have a little space...as he was well enough to drive and go to a meeting!
Hope your son in law is doing ok....

  56. Amazing! I never heard of that happening...and does it really get that hot up there? Must have been in the direct sun. What were you planning to use the verde green paint for in the first place? I love the new door, but what will you tell people when they come knocking on that door that leads to nowhere? LOL? I think you saved the day with that idea. Can't wait to see the final pictures, but this was pretty doggone good...wait...did the dog do it? LOL. Such fun.

  57. Whaaaaaat? This is TRULY an amazing story that I cannot wait to tell my TG! But GREAT save with that darling door strategically placed! I love doors as decorations, not in doorways! Our old door, knocker and numbers and all, is affixed to our back fence! I see nothing wrong with that at all, and a lot right with it. xoxo

  58. Oh, that's scary! Check with your police department and ask if they know anyone who does graffiti removal. They have the expertise to remove spray paint from all kinds of surfaces.
