Some of you know that I grew up
on a farm in Pennsylvania.
I grew up believing in
leprechauns and fairies...
Santa Claus
AND
The Easter Bunny.
When I was little my Father
told me that the Easter Bunny
left my basket under a
stump-and-post fence in the
back field.
Today I know that he was a
liar because EVERYONE
knows that the Easter bunny
sneaks into your house at night
and hides your basket.
When I was 5 my father told
me that he was going to meet the
Easter Bunny in the back field
after he spread the morning
load of manure-
YES- Manure!
Keep that in mind~
I wanted to go.
He said NO!
I was determined to see that bunny!
My dog, Lucky, wanted to
see him too.
I wanted to ride on the tractor with Dad.
He said NO!
I decided to follow along behind him
thinking he would take pity on me
and let me ride...I kept asking..
He kept saying NO!
Lucky walked doggedly
by my side.
(like how I worked in the word doggedly)?
It was about a quarter mile to the back field.
Every few feet my Father would
turn around and tell me to go home.
I would shake my head NO
and keep walking...so would Lucky.
We got to the place where he needed
to spread the manure.
GO HOME- I have to start the spreader!
GO HOME-
NO DEAL...
I wanted to see that stinking (;>) bunny!
GO HOME.
I kept walking.
He finally turned the spreader on.
I walked right along behind him..
step-by-step,
row-by-row.
Unfortunately, I do NOT have
a picture of THAT for your viewing
pleasure.
After he had spread the load of manure
he headed home.
I walked right along behind him,
manure covered and stinking
to high Heaven!
When we got home he told me
I was the stubbornest kid he
had ever met.
Hmmmpffffff!
I was NOT stubborn..
I was determined.
And as for Lucky?
Well, let's just say that was NOT
his lucky day.
Next year my
Easter basket was
right at on the
breakfast table...
Imagine that!
Moral~
Stubborn means one does not give up
even when presented with
unpleasant consequences.
Happy Easter-
I will be back to blogging
very soon.
...what an obstinate little thing you were/are.
ReplyDeleteCute Dog, stubborn kid, love it. you sure were a cute little one.
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing! :(
ReplyDeleteManure...ick...you were determined! Now what if you had really seen a six foot tall bunny?
Some memories smell sweeter than others:) I love how you got the bunny to move the basket location, persistence paid off! Enjoy your Easter Sunday dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeletethis wonderful story does not surprise me in the least lol, I can see you being just like this as a child, ,,,,,, I have been thinking of you often and hoping you are doing well. Happy Easter!!
ReplyDeleteOh what a tale! Not the best of Easter stories I'v ever heard but funny. I love that you have those old pictures of you with your dog. Happy Easter to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat a story sweet friend. You are still the determined person you were as a child. Certain memories stick in our head. I am sure you and lucky covered in manure would not be a pretty picture. Happy Easter. xoxo
ReplyDeleteDiana, You are killing me....I bet your mother was pleased with you and your father. I think you still have that "damn the torpedoes" attitude. LOL. Poor Lucky. :) I love the picture. Hope all is well with you and yours. Tell S.C. hello for me. Blessings to all, xoxo, love you, Susie
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
ReplyDeleteYou were one strong kid and and now you're an even stronger woman.
That is the first story I have heard with both manure and Easter baskets in it. Funny!
ReplyDeleteVery entertaining, Diana! You certainly were blessed with a wonderful father. It must have been fun growing up on a farm! I always wanted that when I was a kid. Anyways, a very Happy Easter to you and John and your wonderful family. Take care. Thinking of you often! xo
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what an experience and you were determined to see it through and dear little Lucky stuck with you. What a loyal and true friend he was. I didn’t grow up on a farm but in a Massachusetts factory town (my mother’s parents still had their farm in Vermont at that time though) and I too believed in fairies etc.. my friends and I would look for fairy hills and imagine them wearing flowers on their heads like hats. We would lie on our stomachs in the grass and look for them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter, Diana...I hope your Easter Basket was filled with good things this year....

ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great Easter. THANKS for a sweet(?) read. LOL
From here, Sherry and jack
Well, that is a one crappy story! Ha! Hope the Easter Bunny is good to you. Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter! The picture of you and Lucky is adorable, looking at your cute face and expression, I can just picture you following along and saying "no" to your dad.
ReplyDeleteI think being stubborn or persistent can pay off in a lot of ways. I like to think of it as having gumption and it has made me dig in my heels and not give up on many occasions. Turns out, in my case, it's a very positive trait to have. Cute story and I'm happy the bunny left your basket on the table the following year. Happy Easter, Diana!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the story and the lovely photograph … very special :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter Wishes, we've spent time with family - always a joy.
All the best Jan
What's the bunny doing in this holiday season? Hehe, just kidding.. ;)

ReplyDeleteHappy Easter Diana....quite a story!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Linda :o)
You mean you had a Shawshank Redemption moment all for an Easter basket?! Your father was a longsuffering guy I think and you were one tenacious little girl. Your poor mother. 🤦🏻♀️ Yes, it is just about time you got back here before we have to send out the troops.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you .... stinky .(smiles) hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteYou are one determined girl. Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
ReplyDeleteLOL!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story!! Happy Easter and I hope you got to spend it with those that you love!!

Laughing, and living the moment with you! So cute you are! xoxo Dolly
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great story gf! My Easter Bunny used to only leave me green jelly beans because they were my favorite! I never noticed that my sisters had NO green jelly beans lol~!
ReplyDeleteLove this story, Diana. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I can believe this about you :D Hurry Back! ♥
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a good easter
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute story! Love the photo of you and Lucky!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Now that has to be the stinkiest Easter story I've ever heard! LOL
ReplyDeleteFond Memories. Stinky or not. Good to hear from you. I hope you had a nice Easter. I love the story told As only you can tell it...too funny.Come back soon. You are missed
ReplyDeleteDoes your smeller not work? Wow! You really wanted to find that Easter bunny. We had to help my parents spread manure on the yard to get the new grass to grow. Brought it all over to Oklahoma from Arkansas special!
ReplyDeleteNo way! I lived on the farm for my first years and took the dog for walks (two years old, must had caused a few heart attacks) but I never followed the spreader. EWW!! Too funny.
ReplyDeleteYou must write a book. Best seller for sure!
Been missing you!
Great story and love the picture of you and Lucky. Trying to imagine the odor but I don't want to imagine too much. How did you deal with the stuff flying on you? I like to think you're persistent not stubborn.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to say I was so stubborn and strong willed. One time I said to her I wasn't stubborn just persistent. Think I was 8. She said she had a hard time not laughing but knew she couldn't because she was the mom
Hope you're enjoying yourself and staying out of mischief
Cindy
LOL loved this and you sound like me when it comes to being stubborn. Thanks for the good laugh today I needed it. Much love.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness... what a story. That makes me appreciate you all the more. Wish I'd known you as a kid, but then again, it might have meant "trouble" comes in twos...Lol. What a wild story. I'm glad your Easter basked was where it belonged after that. We have always had ours hidden in the house somewhere by the Easter bunny. We still do...for our adult kids. It's a family tradition.
ReplyDeleteYou go girl!! I love your determination stinky manure and all but I'm sure your mom wasn't so happy about it hence the basket in the proper place the following year! haha
ReplyDeleteI grew up with the Easter bunny, Santa Clause and the Toothfairy, which in turn, so did my kids and now my grandkids.
Thanks for that story, it put a smile on my face as I imagined you in that field.
have a great week!
Saimi
Such a cute photo! You were a little stinker, though :) Couldn't resist.....Hope your Easter was wonderful! xx Karen
ReplyDeleteMy dad used to call that "headstrong."
ReplyDeleteThis was an adorable story! But I think your dad was just as “stubborn or determined” as you! He never let up on that tractor or the spreader!!!
ReplyDeleteLisa
Best Easter story EVER!
ReplyDeleteOh for Pete's sake! That is hilarious! You little stinker, you.
ReplyDeleteHaHaHa Oh Diane ~ my sides hurt.....that stinking bunny!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a nice Easter.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you noticed, but I've been gone for a couple of weeks - my computer crashed and it has taken me forever to get myself going again and I am totally back yet. I may not go back and answer all your letters, but I am here.
sandie
HAHA....I am thinking that MAYBE, JUST MAYBE you are one STUBBORN person. Honey, I am too, so OWN IT! Work it.....enjoy it. HAHA
ReplyDeleteThat's hysterical! But oh what a sweet memory!!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you just crack me up! I think you and my grandson may be cut from the same cloth! Your story reminded me of my sweet uncle (long gone now). Every year at Christmas or Easter he would tease all us nieces and nephews with stuff like Santa isn't coming this year...he decided he was sick of toys or the Easter Bunny ate all the eggs this year...things like that. Of course, we all took it in fun because we knew him to be a big teaser! Hope you had a nice Easter this year. I had my son, DIL and 2 grands over for dinner after church. I was convinced I had screwed up about half of the dishes but all turned out very good. Hope all is well in your world!
ReplyDeleteThis has to be the best Easter post ever. I hope magical days still present themselves to you. I liked this post much better than the blogs that share a ton of pictures of home decor. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteLove your story, Diana! Keep on posting those wonderful memories or better yet, start writing that new book! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs
Girl, that is the best illustration of the best thing to keep in mind I have seen.
