Well- this MIGHT sound like a
COMMON WORD
to you.
But-it can cause some consternation...
especially if you live in the south and
hear a sentence that sounds like this:
SweetCheeks was fond of saying:
Let's go ride on
THE ALLEYGATOR!
WHAT?
You want to ride on the ALLEYGATOR?
Where IS the ALLEYGATOR?
You know where it is, Nana!
It's at the STORE!
What? What Store?
I dunno.
You can ride it at the
HOSPITAL, too!
Know where this is headed?
Well-here you are----
HERE IS THE
ALLEYGATOR!
Yes-Yes-
That is a whole lot better than trying to ride one of
THESE SUCKERS!
So- Just this once I am going to
KEEP MY BIG MOUTH SHUT
and keep my comment to myself....
but feel free to add YOURS!
So-next time you are by an
ALLEYGATOR
I dare you to say to someone:
I'll hold the
ALLEYGATOR for you while you get on!
ALLEYGATOR for you while you get on!
Imagine the looks you will get!
Oh, that's a good new word. I had no idea where you were going with this one!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! The word, not the lady who's on it...LOL!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
I will just say.....lol!
ReplyDeleteOh, no, you don't! Not making any comments about the lady (ahem) astride another sort of alleygator. At first, I thought that an alleygator referred to all those times you meet an alligator in an alley. So glad THAT wasn't it. That child has always been a cutie patootie.
ReplyDeleteThat is one ride where it is better to be in the back.
ReplyDeleteNo comments on that picture, my friend! No way! Missed you! We are both back in the swing of things, I see! Much love!
ReplyDeleteoh sweet cheeks is such a little doll, I can't believ how much she has grown,, where has the time gone,,
ReplyDeleteshe is quite a card she is, lol,
Too Cute!!! My baby sister Mildred used to cry for Ella-Wetter. We finally realized she wanted WaterMelon!!!
ReplyDeleteToo Cute!!! My baby sister Mildred used to cry for Ella-Wetter. We finally realized she wanted WaterMelon!!!
ReplyDeleteDiana, I loved this. So darn innocent and cute. I liked Karen's baby sister's word too. :):) I still remember my g.son Brock calling lasagna ..blazonya... ?? yeah, I know, crazy...but cute. Blessings for a great day, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLOL I don't like riding Alleygaters when they make me dizzy
ReplyDeleteI thought she was going to mean one of those kiddie rides at the store you put a quarter in. Never expected elevator
ReplyDeleteI rather ride the alleygator your granddaughter did - she is soooooooooooooooooooooo cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is just too cute! She's adorable and the things that come out of her mouth, hilarious! Seriously, a real alligator ride?????? Does not look like fun for either of them! Just sayin'!!
ReplyDeleteWhere on earth do you find all the pics that you use???? That lady riding an alleygator is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'll make a guess. You Google - woman riding alligator!! Lol! That's funny. Will give me a chuckle next time I ride an alleygator
ReplyDeleteOk, I didn't see that one coming! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I just love kids! They say the cutest things. Now - go ride that alligator!!!
ReplyDeleteMy comment... That ALLEYGATOR couldn't move, if it wanted to!!!!!! It's back side is being squashed into the ground!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHehhhhhhhhh....
As one who IS from the south AND spends summers at her lakehouse, where back in the swamps on any given day....we can see alleygators swimming past!.....you should bring that girl to visit. We could take her on a real ride and she'd never have to get outa the boat!!!! Or push a button!!!! This made me laugh this morning!
ReplyDeleteShe's so danged cute I wanna kiss her cheeks off.
ReplyDeleteOK - a couple from my past. My youngest called cement (concrete) conCREEK. And seagulls were SEAGLES. My eldest had a friend who called
geraniums DEARaniums. Hubs pronounces antella with the accent on the first syllable ANTenna (makes me giggle and tease way too much haha,) and my oldest sister calls a refrigerator a FIDGErator- and she calls a chiminey a CHIMLEE (I know, she's in her 60s and will never learn. She getsit honestly, my father used to call a Toyota truck a TYota.
But seriously alleygator wins the prize, seagles gets second.
Hugs and such fond memories,
Michele
Diana I am really laughing with this one. Of course SweetCheeks is adorable and out of the mouth of babes .... but yup someone sure is riding the alleygator!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Happy Wednesday, Sweet D!
ReplyDeleteAs always, you crack me up!

That's a new word to me! Your SweetCheeks is adorable! Hang on to the alleygator door, I'm a-comin!
ReplyDeleteSee? I always learn new things when I come here! Cute, cute, cute!
ReplyDeleteShe always makes me giggle...what a cutie pie. And now every time I go into the Alleygator....I'm going to think of this post.
ReplyDeleteJen
Leave to a precious child to keep you on your toes. That lady has a problem to sit on that thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm on that will always take a dare so i'll be saying it the next time I'm in an alligator! Children always speak their minds so innocently and with great job. My neice would say "all you need to is Ass me and I'd do i!
ReplyDeleteGreat word for elevator, Sweet Cheeks! And is that a coin operated alligator at Walmart? Sorry, I could not hold my thought, Diana. Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteHa ha. That was funny. Never heard of that word before:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful new word Wednesday. Think I'll leave the alleygator rides to others. Lol!
ReplyDeleteHa! That word was already in my lexicon! Lol When our son was a wee little one, that what he called them too. I'll not comment on the alligator rider.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I really had no idea what she was talking about until you cleared up the confusion. LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh too funny, Diana. I would have never thought until I came to the end of the post that she was referring to an elevator. And you know it caught my attention right away when you mentioned ALLEYgator hehehe. That SweetCheeks is a keeper.
ReplyDeletelove, ~Sheri
Oh that is too funny Diana! I love the little made up words they come up with. My Michael would call a helicopter a "Hopter-copter". LOL I still call them hopter-copters when he is around. So cute. (Your little sweet cheeck is just adorable too!)
ReplyDeleteXO Barbara
Ha Ha tooo funny! You crack me up. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteKris
Now...I will always see the elevator in a new way. Kids really do say the cutest things!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Cindy
Ha that was a new one to me! I'll keep to riding the alleygator the other one ouch, that's crazy!
ReplyDeleteOh, she is just too adorable, isn't she? Love her little outfit <3 That poor alligator.....xo K
ReplyDeleteIt would start an interesting conversation there with everyone confined together, wouldn't it? Maybe she'll be like my husband who still says herricanes instead of hurricanes. And Space Book instead of Facebook, and Tweeters instead of Harris Teeters!
ReplyDeleteHa! My youngest used to call them that! I couldn't bear to correct her, it was so cute:) She eventually figured out the right word. Those little voices and their hilarious word mistakes are so precious and sweet. Thanks for sharing and bringing back that sweet memory.
ReplyDeleteLove them....and all the neat ways they have of calling things what they think they hear.
ReplyDeletePrecious!!
Diana, Sweet cheeks is just such a comedian! I have to tell you that about ten years ago, we went on a tour of the everglades and I actually held a baby alligator....not alleygator. No comments on the poor creature with the gal on its back...just figure the alligator would need a chiropractor to adjust its back. Hope all is back to normal for yourself, wait-who am I kidding, back to normal???LOL.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
I will try that.
ReplyDeleteMerle.........
Never would have guessed that one...Did you find that lady at Wallmart??
ReplyDeleteLOL My in-laws once owned a house that had an elevator and my son around 4 or 5 at the time and he loved riding in it, He called it a helinator.
ReplyDeleteShe has always had a way with words---Art Linkletter would have loved her. Remember him?
ReplyDeleteGot caught up a bit...love the 60's hairstyles and I do remember my sisters having some of those "do's" I was a a 70's 'Love Child', and that was pretty maintenance free; straight, parted down the middle!!
Love the communion pictures of Sweet Cheeks. God bless her.
I sent you an email-I've had a hard time getting to you, I think.
Jane xx
Hysterical...I truly thought one of you was going to be sitting astride a saddled gator...whew!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Not the lady on the gator! Lol...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chuckles! ;-)
ReplyDeleteVery cute, and a good laugh!
ReplyDeleteThat is what Olivia called an escalator :) Aren't kids just so much fun.
ReplyDeleteLOL ~ love it! Oh my the lady on the gator! WOW!
ReplyDeleteOh such a great chuckle! I love laughter so here I am laughing at such sweet innocence! Have a terrific week my friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI am setting here laughing out loud and the dogs think I am crazy. That SC, she is something else. That is so funny and I especially love the lady riding the alligator LOL I am being a good girl and saying word. But I am sure thinking it.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend - hope your weather has warmed up so you can be outdoors.
Hugs dear friend.
Mary.
That's really a cute word. My daughter and I still do this for fun, and I never thought to write them down. xoox Su

ReplyDeletehahhaa....we have so many cute words, too...like our Deeds, when she was tiny, was always looking for her bailing suit so she could go swimming.....so many others.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was going to be one of those grocery store rides the my kids were always crying to go on. Never did an elevator enter my mind. This one is the winner word so far!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable SweetCheeks looks on that photo! They are all growing up so fast. It was so cute the way she used to talk! You must miss that but I would think that every stage they go through brings its own blessings!
