It was a cold Fall day.
I was driving down the road
on the East side of town.
It was a road that went from
TOWN to COUNTRY
and back to TOWN
in about a 3 mile stretch.
Our little three year old Tara
was sitting in the back seat
long before seat belts were being used.
She leaned forward and tapped my shoulder.
Tara: MOM! I LOVE that NOMALOME!
Me: What?
Tara: That NOMALOME! I want to live there!
Me: What? Where?
Me: We LIVE in a NORMAL HOME, Tara.
Tara: NO.WE.DON'T!
WE DON'T LIVE in a NOMALOME!
Me: What does it look like, Tara?
She starts to cry-
Tara: IT LOOKS LIKE A NOMALOME,
she says sobbing!
I bite the bullet because it is driving me crazy!
I turn the car around!
I start driving back up the road looking for
the NOMALOME.
I am looking at both sides of the road and pointing?
Me: Is that it? (pointing)
Tara: NO
Me: Is that it?(ponting again)
Tara: NO
We get all the way back to the starting point.
Me: Okay, Tara- I don't SEE a Normal home!
Tara: You went passted it!
I am ready to eat the steering wheel.
I turn around AGAIN!
Me: OKAY! Now- TELL ME- when you see the
NORMAL HOME!
I drive slowly with cars dragging along behind me.
I. don't. care!
Finally-
Tara: THERE- THERE IT IS!
I look-
Here is what a
NOMALOME looks like!!!!
Tara: I want to live there!
Me: I bet that can be arranged!
And just for a moment......
I am ALMOST tempted to just leave her there...
almost~
You will never look at a
MOBILE HOME
the same way again-it is in our family-
and will always be
a NOMALOME!
LOL ! But she's so precious.
ReplyDeleteSweet! And now I know a new word! This "New Word Wednesday" idea is pretty fun! A few new words in my family are agooga (fly--also used for lady bugs) and jiggeldy (used to describe a house that is just about to fall down).

ReplyDeleteOh gees how funny! These posts all remind me of how I used to call my uncle Don- hunkaDon....! Now he wasn't a hunk but somehow it was how I was processing the words in my head and that's how it came out! Gees nobody ever told me I was saying it wrong!! LOL.... I wonder if your daughter still loves the idea of living in a nomalome!! NOT- I'm quite sure! :-)

hahaha, this is funny, Diana. I was really wondering what she was talking about myself, and couldn't wait to see where she wanted to live. Your Tara looks so cute in this picture. Oh, what fun memories, and the fact that you remember the word she came up with so many years ago is a great thing.

ROFL. I serious thought it was going to be a "model" home!! I love the vocabulary and pronunciations of preschoolers. My littles are hilarious.

ReplyDeleteToo funny! We lived in a mobile home when we were younger and I loved it. And - in Tuttle not too long ago there was a tornado. On the way home from the zoo we looked at the rubble of homes. barns, cars, boats, etc. And there in the midst of that rubble was a mobile home - still standing - completely unharmed. I remember thinking - whoever lives there must be living right. There is no explanation for why that mobile home was left untouched. Brick homes on either side of it were destroyed. But - as I stood there looking at that mobile home that was kept safe I couldn't help but wonder if the hand of God had protected it - and I was totally in awe at the sight.

ReplyDeleteWe lived in a mobile home when we first got married.. saving to build our house that we live in now. We lived beside a field and whenever the farmer cut the wheat or whatever ... the mice ran straight to our nomalome! To this day I am terrified of mice... ugh!
I think that's just precious. Oh, to see things through the eyes of a child. It reminds me of a little house we used to pass when I'd drive my kids to school. Each December the little old lady would tie red yarn bows on as many branches of the trees in the front yard as she could reach. My little boys thought it was beautiful and I soon came to realize that it was not Christmas for us until we saw her red yarn bows.

ReplyDeleteReminds of working at a grocery store when I was 19 and a little girl told the cashier she wanted to be a "grocery store woman" when she grew up and her mom is like in her head "wtf, way to set the bar high for yourself".
DeleteOh good grief! It's funny how they are literally frustrated to tears by our not understanding, Diana. I have to give you props for patience. My granddaughter is the age when she will say something and if we don't get it she gets very angry and upset with us.
ReplyDeleteWe were driving to Babies R Us a month or so ago and while waiting to make the left at a traffic light, she pointed out a business that looked like a McMansion - columns, double doors, terraced garden - and said, "Oooh, I like that house. I'd like to live there!". I hated to tell her it wasn't a house but an office. At least I know what kind of house my little drama queen likes though! : )

ReplyDeleteKids words are too cute! Our oldest was 21 months old when we got him, so we had to learn his vocabulary. It was quite a chore because he wanted 'wall babies' all the time ... hmmm ... what was that? Oh, strawberries! Yes, kids words are cute!! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI lived in one on two different occasions, it isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when a lightning bolt strikes a huge tree about 6 ft from your bed, and wakes you up.
