One of the smartest men I have ever known
is my brother-in-law, Mike.
He is married to MyHero's sister.
This is the way I remember him and
my sister-in-law in their young
NYC days-
I remember him as a "hippie" with an old
purple van that we had to push to get it started.
I remember seeing him pick up an instrument
that he had never seen before and be able to play it.
I remember that no matter what subject we
mentioned-he knew something about it.
A smart, funny man with an off-beat sense of humor.
I am not quite sure how to word this
because I don't want to invade family privacy
but I want to put it out there.
Mike has advanced
BREAST CANCER.
You don't often hear about
BREAST CANCER in men.
They are not screened for it ,
nor are they expecting it..
It is one of the last things they check for.
That being said,
Mike's condition is very grave.
Mike has always been a self-sufficient person.
He has never asked for help.
He was always able to
SMART HIS WAY TO SUCCESS.
The sad thing is-
YOU CAN'T OUTSMART CANCER.
Mike's beliefs are different than my own,
but that is his choice and I am not a preacher.
He once heard my youngest daughter sing
at a concert and said...
IF I believed---IF I were a believer--
I would think I just heard an angel sing.
That is the most "religious" thing
I have ever heard him say.
So, today, I ask for prayers
and well-wishes and an uplifting of hearts..
Pray that Mike finds his way home
with peace in his heart.
Pray for his wife and children.
They are broken and filled with sadness.
Pray for his sister-she is devastated-
Pray that we can help them when the time comes
and stand as strong as we need to stand.
Maybe even pray for a miracle.
THAT would be a testimony, wouldn't it?
Mike, if you could read this-
I would tell you that-
You are loved-as my "brother"
and a kindred spirit.
We are rooting for you, buddy!
prayers and healing energy for Mike and all those who love him..

Diana, I am praying for Mike and his family, all of you. Once my boss was going to have a safety meeting..It was about breast cancer, he asked me if the men in my maintenance shop would go. I had to tell the boss that one of the men in my shop had had breast cancer and a surgery saved him...plus I think all men need to know. So we had the safety meeting and the man that had the surgery spoke, yes, even men can get breast cancer. Everyone needs to know about all cancers. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteYes, men can certainly get breast cancer and my heart goes out to Mike and all the family. I most certainly will pray for Mike, will pray very hard for him. God bless. xx

Diana, I am so sorry to hear this devastating news about your brother-in-law. I will certainly say a prayer for him and all of his family. This is such a cool picture of him with your sister-in-law, and I can totally relate as I grew up in the 60's myself. I would have loved to seen that purple van of his.

And rest assured, that I will be praying right along with all of the other prayer warriors here. God's got this....he knows the fear and stress that Mike is feeling...and he will provide. I pray that Mike will ask God for help, for healing, for comfort, and for strength for himself as well as his family. Lifting you all up, sweet friend!

ReplyDeleteDiana, you and I haven't talked in ages but it's because I more or less abandoned my old blog. Still....I saw this post and it touched me to no end. This happened to a very good friend of mine about 15 yrs ago and to this day, I think of him. I promise you that I am sending up the strongest prayers I can and yes, let's hope for miracles with it. Cancer is such an unfair disease, rotten to the core. You tell Mike that, believer or not, it makes no difference. Prayers of every kind will be said and he will feel them. It matters not what the "belief" is, the heart knows differently and what counts is the life learned and lived. Prayers for you and all of the family as well. XXX
ReplyDeleteI haven't been around for a few weeks. I am sorry to hear about him. Cancer is a bad beast. I do pray he will find comfort and peace during this hard time. I will also have my little girls pray for him when they wake up in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for a miracle for him. Such a coincidence that a friend and I had been talking about breast cancer in men and wondering if the genetic testing they do on women could be a predictor for them as well. We also wondered why men are not told to be checked for it just like women and if a father could pass it on to their children. I think they should cover it for men and women!
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry. Prayers and love for all of you. Beautifully written and it makes those who don't know him, know him just a bit.
ReplyDeletePrayers flowing from MI. Thinking of you ALL!
ReplyDeletePraying for Mike and his family. I'm so sorry to hear this Diana. Praying for you too.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this. Saying prayers for Mike, his family and your family.
ReplyDelete~Cindy
I'm so sorry to hear this sad news about your BIL and having breast cancer. I will say a prayer for him and his family.
ReplyDeleteSuch sad news. Prayers for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI have walked this road several times..my heart breaks for them. Sometimes the love in ones heart is a religion of sorts. It might not be recongized as such..but to me, that is what it is.. Let there be a miracle. Anything in this world can happen. There are as many ways to faith as there are people I think. No matter what happens..Mike is going to be alright, you know?
ReplyDeleteI'm so very sorry.
Such sad news. Thinking of you all.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers for Mike and his family! May our Lord keep them in His loving arms during this difficult time! Thinking of all of you!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, Diana. I'm praying. xo ~ Nancy

Thoughts and prayers to your BIL and family Diana! I worked for an oncologist for many years and only saw one man with Breast CA, rare indeed and very scary time. Keeping you all close in thought and prayer. xo
ReplyDeleteWill certainly be praying not only for Mike's physical healing, but spiritual healing as well! God is certainly able, and will pray that if the opportunity arises, that the Lord can use you and your Hero to share hope in Christ with him. Miracles need an impossibility! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Diana! Praying for good to come from all of this, especially spiritual good for Mike!
