Oh, I know that some of you
are TOO YOUNG to remember the '60s
But for many of us it was a time of
new freedoms~
New music,
New music,
New hairdos and
NEW CLOTHING STYLES
NEW CLOTHING STYLES
Twiggy was one of the first ones
that brought us the
MINI DRESS!
I had a dress almost identical to this in navy blue
and wore it with ORANGE SHOES.
I thought I was SOOO cool.
The town I lived in thought I was scandalous!
I think it was the first mini-skirt
they had ever seen.
they had ever seen.
That's would be me-
always causing a ruckus of some kind...
The 1960's also brought us
BELL BOTTOMS
image
You were totally hip in those
especially if you wore them with one of
THESE TOPS!
image
There were hippie clothes-
The SHORT of it looked like this~
image
That mighta been me...oh wait..
my Go-go boots were white!
The LONG of the 60's looked like this:
A Gunne Sax dress that some of us wore:
Were we grown girls playing
Little House On The Prairie?
unage
Some of us wore
TIE-DYED pieces
Some of us would have DIED
to be caught in tie dye.
I, for one, never owned a single piece of tie-dye!
Some of us were preppy in the 60's
Yes-it's true- I had this dress!
image
POP ART clothing POPPED UP here and there-
image
I would have worn something
like this to church
on Sunday
(after hiding my mini dress in the back of the closet)
image
Somehow,
I always envied this woman's
class and style.
image
And while the beautiful Jacqueline Kennedy
had someone that dressed like this-
image'
The ones that looked like THIS
are the ones that usually found me!
image
Was I lucky, or what?
What?

Update on Kris:
She came through her surgery and is doing just fine. Her hubby says she is out of it so now we can
say what we really think about her....lol..
Just kidding, Kris, you know I love ya!
She should be headed home on Saturday.

I still enjoy Jackie Kennedy's style and even have a pattern or two from that era that I make. So comfy!
ReplyDeleteMy 1981 wedding day's Going Away dress was a Gunne Sax brand, white with tiny red rosebuds on it. I still have it, too!
Hugs,
Kelley~
Brings back memories, although I can say I did not wear or own most of those. I love the Gunne dress, wish I had one today!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the '60s outfits! I watch a lot of tv shows online from the 60s, and always think the outfits are interesting!
ReplyDeleteI think that I was a SIZE FIVE and thought I was FAT due to Twiggy :)
ReplyDeleteOooolala! 60's was a time for stylin'! Mini skirts and go-go boots and all! Great post. Happy to hear that Kris is doing well.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day Miss Nana Diana!
Nancy
Diana, That's great news about Kris. Thank you for that. I will keep her in my thoughts today too. I had some mini skirts, never any too flamboyant. I would have ran the other way if I saw a man in yellow pants.LOL I liked Twiggy's clothes. Hope you have a great day. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteOh this was such a fun post Diana....for all us girls who grew up in the 60's! I so loved that style....it was fun and flirty! Weren't those just the best of times? And Mrs. Jackie Kennedy (i never say Onassis) will always be my favorite first lady of all times....I simply adore her and her classic style! Oh yes, I too had white go-go boots!
ReplyDeleteOh, I was part of that era and you know the old saying about what goes around, comes around. Some of those fashions featured are back on trend today. Not that I'm able to wear them now. Ha! Love this post, Diana!
ReplyDeleteWeren't the 60's fun! I didn't care much for the tie dye either, but I loved my mini skirts Some of the men from the church told my parents no good could come from me wearing those clothes to school...lol!
ReplyDeleteJackie Kennedy was "da' bomb"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut married in 1958, I was a married mom, in the 60's. But I still wore my mini skirts, 'cause I kept my "figger"... Back in the day. ,-)))
Until after my last of 4 pregnancies.
Do I still "blame him," to this day?????? For those few extra pounds which didn't melt off, after I had him? And for my stupid starving myself, to lose them? And thus, starting the yo-yo weight stuff? YES!!! I do, blame him!!!! ,-)
"Siatic" Tessa
I remember it all in the 60's very well! I had a similar black/white skirt, the Lacoste dress, hippie clothes, but best of all, a pair of bright red bell bottoms that I wore every chance I got. Loved the mini skirts and Jackie too! Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteThere were lots of different looks in 60's fashion, that is for sure! I think I would've gone for the more tailored look, although I really like prairie look too!
ReplyDeleteI wore the Twiggy dress in Cream! Remember all the 60's style ... Some I'd like to forget!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Vera
I was only in the 3rd grade when the world said goodbye to the sixties, but I did admire some of the fashion of the time. My favorite gal of the decade for fashion war Marlo Thomas in That Girl! Gosh how I loved her style! Then in the early 70's it was Mary Tyler Moore's clothes I loved! What a fun post Diana...keep 'em coming!!!
ReplyDeleteXO Barbara
I was born in the sixties so while I didn't get to enjoy the fashion at the time, I did enjoy playing dress up in my mom's closet. Jackie Kennedy had such a timeless, classic style. Thanks for the update on Kris, I'm happy to hear that she's doing well.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Gunny Sax long dresses! I too had "church dresses" (longer skirts) and "school clothes" (mini-skirts). Not sure who I thought I was fooling!
ReplyDeleteLike Barbara up there.....i adored THAT GIRL! i did have the white go go boots! Later on....the lace up 'granny' boots. All those clothes were so fun! Ive been so hoping you would do a post on the fashions......so glad you did!
ReplyDeletePs.....i wore GUNNE SAX to the prom!
ReplyDeleteJackie O was indeed stylish! I might have worn a mini skirt or two. Maybe not quite as short as some, but short! The last photo cracked me up...I'll have to dig around and see if I can find the photo I have of the fella that caught my attention in college...for a few weeks. lol! Until my Mel Gibson lookalike came along and it was all over for the other guy. Hmmm, better not tell too much, this is blog post material! Fun post, Diana!
ReplyDeleteI missed out on all the excitement of the 60s, but sure enjoyed reading through your detailing the clothing styles! I agree that Jackie Kennedy's style was lovely. Thanks for the 60s clothing style tour. Will continue praying for Kris. Glad she came through surgery and is doing well!
ReplyDeleteI loved Jacquie's style - so elegant always. Yes, you sure brought back so many memories that I would like to forget LOL I always love the mini dresses, skirts, etc. I had a pair of white boots that I thought were really hot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking back to memory lane.......

So fun! I always think I should have been a "50's and 60's" girl...love the styles :)
ReplyDeleteI'd wear the pop art dresses now! WOW!
ReplyDeleteMy mom (what was she thinking??) brought me to a head shop when I was a teenager to buy some bell bottoms! It smelled like incense in there. I still remember the scent. And I had some Gunne Sax clothing and white go-go boots and platform shoes!
ReplyDeleteI was a little kid in the sixties and I did have some funky flower-power pants, as I recall. In second grade I craved a pair of go-go boots!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun, Diana! Do we get to see pictures of you from the 60's? PLEASE?? Pretty please with a cherry on top? :) I must say that I don't remember the 60's since I wasn't even born yet, but I thoroughly enjoyed your post. Happy day!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember sewing inserts into the bell bottoms to make them even wider - elephant pants ? LMHO !!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so relieved to read that Kris is doing well and coming home Saturday - thanks for sharing that !
xoxoxo
Hmmm...I was a Gunne Sax girl, but not until the early 70s. I remember wearing some sort of flower power shift and being told by the deacon at our church that that was not pleasing to The Lord. I thought, "Buddy, tell my mother because she's the one who made this for me." I also remember shells and not the ones found at the beach—the crocheted or knitted variety—in combination with the no undergarment phase of the hippie era, made for some very interesting photo ops. For some girls you understand, not for moi. My mother would have killed me!
ReplyDeleteMay God bless Kris.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother sewed many of my clothes and she was quite up to date on the latest fashions in the 60's. She watched The Dating Game and would just sit down and cut out dresses like the contestants. My favorite number was striped and I wore grass green tights with it!!! lol
I had a few maxi dresses and a few pair of HOT pants, what a contrast of styles and lengths we wore back in the day! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI remember them well! So glad Kris is doing well. BTW.. I tagged you on my blog today.
ReplyDeleteFashion comes and goes but I'm sure hoping those things don't come back. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on Kris.
such GREAT news about kris!
ReplyDeleteand...
this post? LOLOLOL!!!! as only YOU could do it old bean! I LOVE IT!
i relate. well. to almost all of it. never wore the grannie sax or gunnie saxe or whatever it was.
but the rest? yes! oh. those were the days my friend. uh oh. now that song is in my head. but i LOVE that song! XOXO♥
Good Evening Diana, Oh my word, I remember all the outfits.... I had the Twiggy hair do, and I wore false eye lashes. Do you remember the painted eye lashes we used to paint on. My mother thought I was as mad as a hatter, but I thought I looked fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWith the dark eyes, we wore white lip stick, probably not a good look, but I thought I look amazing.
Thank you for the memories.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Glad to hear Kris is on the mend. As for the sixties style, my mom kept me in hot pants and mini-skirts. She once made a shirt type dress that was slit up the sides. My boss sent me home to change clothes, since the slits revealed waaay too much panty hose ( oops legs!). Teachers weren't supposed to be so "sexy." Those were the days-- the wild 60's and even wilder 70's!! Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteit seemed most decades had a unique style until the mid 90s. There are trends, but clothing hasn't had many fads since then
ReplyDeleteWell I grew up in the sixties, my teen years and I remember all the styles and wore all of them....I so remember twiggy, and hated her because she was so stick thin. So glad to hear Kris came through surgery and hoping for a quick recovery! Know don't be wearing any hot pants out side!
ReplyDeleteWell, I wasn't around yet in the 60's, but I remember seeing pics of my mom in those pop art dresses. So fun and colorful! Thanks for the update on Kris. So glad she's done with the surgery. Praying for a quick and painless recovery for her. :)
ReplyDeleteLet's see, I had the bell bottoms, the white go-go boots, hot pants, tie-dye and pop art! The mini skirts and hot pants were looked upon as evil by most parents and their friends ~ what would they think now?? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories!
xo

P.S. So happy Kris is doing well ~
Current "Caroline · Kennedy" Ambassador, has been active in Japan.
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. I wore several styles like you showed...and yes, my go go boots were white!
ReplyDeleteI was ten or younger during the sixties, but I did sport white go go boots and Peter Max jeans. I desperately wanted to be a hippie and go to Woodstock, but my parent's felt I was too young to hop in a VW Beetle and head out to Yasgar' s farm, lol! I did have a Twiggy Barbie doll as well!
ReplyDeleteI totally remember bell bottoms and Twiggy and the bright colors in dresses!
ReplyDeletewarmly,
deb
I had bell bottoms but mine were super low waisted!
ReplyDeleteDon't forget madras shirts and skirts...it was all the rage in high school as were penny loafers and black and white oxford shoes. Bows in our hair right in the front! ugh! Pleated skirts and blouses with round collars. Pedal pusher pants. Later for me it was black shiny go go boots, mini skirts. Didn't wear a gunne sax until the 80's. Today's first lady could sure use some fashion tips from the lovely and sophisticated Jackie O.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the walk down memory lane.
hugs
Sissie
Glad Kris is OK..Thanks for the trip down memory lane..Loved the stitched down pleated skirts, saddles and Bobby socks..Jackie O was a classic for sure..
ReplyDeleteOh good thing I was born in '68 and got to bypass all these horrors! lol Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteJackie O will always be a classic.
Thank you for the update on Kris, it's wonderful news to hear that she is OK.
ReplyDeleteAh Diana you must have had quite the wardrobe going on. One cool chick.
Jen
Fun post! I'm more of a 70's girll but I definitely remember the 60's. I had a pre-teen version of white go-go boots when I was around 10 yrs. old.! I wore lots of bell bottom pants!
ReplyDeleteLove your blast from the past posts, Diana! I was a little girl during the 60's, but I do remember the crazy fashion! How about granny square clothes? My sister and I had matching floppy hats that my mom crocheted us. We thought we were so cool! Go-go boots? I am scared of those!!! I never did like tie dye either!!!
ReplyDeletePS: glad to hear that Kris is doing ok!!
ReplyDeleteI was very influenced by Twiggy's style....I looked a little like her as a teen! lol Cute photos and a fun post! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThis is great news about Kris, too! Thanks! I'll keep praying for her.
ReplyDeleteI loved bell bottoms and palazzo pants. I wore little braids in my long hair with feathers and leather I had leather boots, leather vest and leather purse (bag). A real hippie. Most of my stuff was from 1967-74
ReplyDeleteJackie definitely had a very special style. I dreamed of copying her some day, but never did. I remember wearing those opaque tights with my mini-dresses - in the middle of the summer, too! They must have been very warm, but I don't remember that. xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the fishnet hose! I had every colour under the sun to match all of my dresses. They were popular when I was in Jr. High.
ReplyDeleteGlad to here that Kris is doing well!
Thank you for the update on Kris.

A fun, fun post. :-))
Around 1964 or 65 we were not allowed to wear our skirts higher than an inch below the knee so we got a block or two from our home (out of sight of the parents) and rolled our skirts up to above the knee. We rolled the waist band up to make it shorter. wow, rebels! Later in 69 or 70 we had Hot Pants, but my favorite was my cut-off blue jeans. All the girls wore the Levi's guys "501's" blue jeans with button up fly and cut them off and let them ravel like Daisy Dukes. Since I lived near San Francisco during the Summer of Love, I embroidered flowers up the side and across the butt and embroidered my initials on the two back pockets. Yeah, rebel...ha ha. Believe it or not, I still have my cut-off, flower and initial embroidered 501's and might have to do a post about them. Thanks for the pictures and trip down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteI remember bell bottoms and poor boy shirts...miniskirts and go-go boots, smocked tops, hot pants, and maxi coats...and I had a Twiggy haircut, too. I copied her makeup! Fun memories!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on Kris!
Oh good grief...owned the white go go boots..mini skirts...all of it. I had the Sassoon haircut. Remember that. I even have a piture of me in it. LOL Pat said I looked like a tiny French Waif. LOL I loved those days.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear that your dear friend is doing well Diana! On another note, I think that is Dexter....and if guys like Dexter found you then I guess you are one of the good guys cause Dexter only "took out the trash" Whew!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten all about Gunne Sax's dresses! I had a few of them; yikes! I had white Go Go boots with my mini skirts- "these boots were made for walking!" I also had a Pixie haircut. What fun memories! I know you were scandalous in your cute mini skirt; after all, those were the days!
ReplyDeleteJacqueline Kennedy. I never tire of seeing photos of that beautiful, stylish lady. Thanks for the update on Kris. I'm glad she's recovering well.
ReplyDeleteI remember every one of these! Gunne Sax was the brand to buy for school dances, I had the tie midi top and bell bottoms, but no mini skirts for me, My parents wouldn't have allowed it!
ReplyDeleteI remember them all- I wore the hip hugger bell bottoms and clogs..oh and those skimpy halter tops. I always thought Jackie O was the epitome of tasteful fashion..she definitely was a classy lady.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories and terrific share! I do not think we will have have a first lady with the class Jackie had. She was one of a kind. Plus her children were raised properly without all the drama the other Kennedy kids had. She was a good wife and mother. Nice memories. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLoved the 60's but I was a preppy dresser....Lady bug skirts, shirts and sweaters....John Meyer of Norwich....John Romain purses and of course Weejuns!....and everything monogramed...and yes, another Gator..Lacoste that is!...oh and London Fog jackets...and Papagallo shoes
ReplyDeleteI love all the pics of those clothes we wore back then. Jackie certainly had beautiful clothes and wore them with such style.
ReplyDeleteI visited a megachurch last week and was surprised to notice three guys on the p and w team were wearing bright, colored jeans!!! What???
I missed out on all that excitement but really enjoyed your post. I didn't realize the options that existed. I loved that prairie girl dress but I'm too old far that now. Lol.
