Lovers OF Louvers Will Love This Project Using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Well-In the end it looks pretty good
if I do say so myself.
Remember when I painted the little black TV white here?
Well, I picked up a little chest from a thrift store to set it on.
However, it was so ugly I kept it covered with
Gramma Hazel's piano scarf.
Not wonderful but tolerable.
The fringed skirt hid this beaut!
Now, I am not one to paint GOOD wood furniture.
This is NOT a good piece.  It has a cultured wood top.
Anyway, I gave her a ride to the kitchen
using the finest moving technique known to man
to keep from scratching the floor.
Maybe I could patent that technique and sell it?
Anyway, you can tell the old boy is out of town
because I painted it IN THE KITCHEN.
Up she goes to the top of the kitchen table.
She is perched on little painting triangles from Home Depot.
Here she is after two coats waiting to be waxed.
I might have muttered a couple of
bad words to myself trying to get paint
in all those louvers-to say NOTHING
of the words I might have muttered
trying to BUFF THE WAX on those things!
While she was waiting to be waxed
SOME ONE "might have"
spray painted the hardware
in the garage while the old boy was out of town.
Finally, waxed and hardware reinstalled
she is moved back
to the little sitting room
where she is used to store
all my loose leaf binders of ideas.

Did I mention I painted inside with
Annie Sloan's Old Violet
which looks quite blue in this picture.
So, there she sits.waiting for me to light a fire
and watch Downton Abbey...
or any old Robert Redford film.
Do you see that rock down there on the left?
That is a huge piece of Amethyst -
a gift from my son and his wife brought back from their honeymoon.
Isn't it gorgeous?
It was the birthstone of my brother and my father.
A piece I hold dear.
It is full of dazzle in the daylight and so gorgeous.
MamasBoy ALSO brought me a large
piece of petrified rock that sits on the
other side of the fireplace.
As if the rocks in my head aren't enough.....

Speaking of dazzling...
MyHero will be quite be-dazzled when he gets up this morning.
I might, or might not, have
a few new treasures to show him that I found
while he was out of town.
un-huh-

Maybe if you are VERY GOOD
and promise not to
run your finger along the edge of the cake
and lick the icing off
because you think no one will notice-
well, I just might share my
new finds with YOU, too!

Happy Monday!
Am I the only idjit in the world that loves a Monday?

  5. Fabulous job on the cabinet. I totally understand painting indoors with our lovely winter weather. I can't imagine getting all those little surfaces painted properly. Super job. Now, it's my turn to tend to a sick child. Josie's home with the stomach flu. I'm not sure it's a happy Monday in her world. She's mad that she's missing school.

  6. Way to go Miss Nana Diana! That looks just great, love the color too! Oh my, my husband thinks I can't paint, must do it in private! I love to paint, maybe he's right! LOL. Love your rocks, how sweet to have them out and can see them as precious reminders. Oh and Monday, I love them too! Aren't we just terrific? Have a great day, sweet and funny friend.

  9. Looks great! Amazing what a can of paint can do! I can imagine waxing the louvers...it's a job I need to do on a shutter headboard but I've been putting it off. Wanna help? :)

  10. Oooh, you rebel you! : ) LOL, I do the same thing when my husband is out of town. I'm not sure what that says about us {or them}, but it feels great to do it, doesn't it? This turned out great, Diana! I'm sure the louvers were a pain. The same thing when I have painted shutters, but spray paint made an easier job of that for me. Of course, it was Summer at the time so I did it outside. Back to cold weather this week. Fine by me as long as there is no snow involved!

  12. I just love your chest, Diana! (Well, not YOUR chest, but the chest that you painted:) You did an awesome job, it is oh so much better after you transformed her (and I won't tell that you did it all in the kitchen!). You have alot more patience than me, I would have been tempted to spray paint those louvers! You are the only person I know who would think to paint a tv, genius! Can't wait to see what other treasures you have found, have a great day!!

  19. You remind me of a friend of mine. She sees something that needs a coat of paint, she jumps right in and does it. Me, I just think about it and talk about it and it's still waiting for a coat of paint! The cabinet looks wonderful and so does the tv you painted, too!

  21. I'm not a fan of white furniture, but this looks really nice. I adore that amethyst by your mantle. I'll bet that thing is heavy! I'm not a fan of Monday, but I don't hate it either. After almost dying twice I'm glad for every day that God gives me.

  22. Wow! Your cabinet looks great! The first thing I thought of was how hard it must have been to get the paint in between all those louvers, but it looks like you did a wonderful job! I love that you have the beautiful amethyst on display. What a perfect gift to hold dear to your heart. Looking forward to seeing your new finds!

I paint in the house when my husband is out of town too. :)

  28. The only reason why people dislike Monday is that they are stuck in a job that they are not particularly fond of and usually have a jerk for a boss who steals their ideas.

  29. this post seriously made me smile...and you know how much I need it right now. Thank you.

LOVE the amethyst ~ so beautiful. Do you 'clean' it now and again? Not the normal cleaning term...what you do for crystals.

  54. I just love it when those ugly, old end tables become chic with a new coat of paint. Well done. Of course you had to spray paint in the garage. Would he expect you to stand in a snowdrift and do it? I want to adopt your son! Rocks are one of my favourite gifts.
