Winterfest And Painted Faces And Volleyball

Only in Green Bay, Wisconsin
would people come out in
ZERO DEGREE WEATHER
to attend a Winterfest.
There was food and
ICE CARVING.
Pretty amazing, huh?

You know what else is amazing?
Going into a little booth with a fresh face
and coming out looking like this....
Or this...
Does anyone else find that first design
just a tad bit creepy? (sorry, Lulu)

On Sunday we spent all afternoon at a
VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
Here is our Lulu in action-serving the ball.
Here are two of her best supporters..
Papa and SweetCheeks.
Notice anyone missing a tooth?
Papa is wide awake and enjoying the game.

At the very end of the tournament
our girls came through.
HERE is the WINNING team!
Lulu is on the far right.
Those are some happy girls.
This is a new team and they did a great job...
duh.....obviously......

These kind of things do tire a person out.
See?
One of the kids asked...
Do you ever look over and think Papa is dead?

Why else would I keep a round mirror close at hand?
I can hold it under his nose and check his breathing.
If he fogs a mirror-
he's alive.
That's what I say!

  1. Lulu did good! Love the face painting, but you can keep all that other outside in the freezing weather to yourselves up there! We do not celebrate winter here. We wait for spring!
You know, you are married to a really old dude there, I would keep that mirror close!

  3. I'm sure the girls appreciate grandpa/grandma's support at their events. Cute pics. That's some pretty amazing makeup. Love the missing tooth too. Be safe. The girls are home today with this latest storm and the nasty temps. We need to dig out again.

  5. LOL! I get concerned when the snoring stops. In fact, one night I woke my husband up because he wasn't snoring to make sure he wasn't dead. He wasn't appreciative of my life saving efforts.

Congrats to Lulu for winning her game.

  12. Yay for the volleyball winners! Looks like they had some super supporters! While the ice sculptures are extraordinary, I would more than likely prefer to stay indoors with my hot chocolate!:-) Stay warm! xo Nellie

Volleyball!!! Our youngest Grand daughter loves, loves, loves volleyball. After the season was over, they had some sort of an un-official team and games too.

Hey, people in Green Bay have the right attitude! It's cold. It's Winter. Find a way to enjoy it. Have a Winterfest!!! Ice carving always amazes me.

I like Lulu's face design. It has a definite cat-like aura to it. :-))))))) Oh and does Lulu have green eyes????? They look like it. Gorgeous!!!!!!!!

  19. You are so funny ... poor papa - it's a good thing that he is good sport. SC looks so cute. What a great volleyball team - they are all so cute.
It's to cold for me to even go outside, but I guess you get used to that.
    Have a fun week Diana.

  20. You certainly had an awesome weekend. As for the cold weather events, we live in Wisconsin so we have to venture out or we would be house bound all winter. We had our ice sculpture during the Polar Vortex, it was well attended. Those people are talented not to mention dedicated.

  21. Hello There Diana, You know what, I think that the leopard print design on clothes, or tattoos where ever always creeps me out too.
It is fun watching our kids play sports. Around these parts we mostly camp and hunt. Hey and anymore we all need a bit of a nap :)

  27. Trying again, since it didn't post this morning, or at least I can't find it. Cute face art, and lol on the mirror. My great great grandmother used that same trick to see if her husband had passed on, lol.

  28. Poor guy! I don't like it when somebody takes a pic of me with my head back and mouth wide open!!!

Brrrr. I don't know if I would venture out in such cold weather to look at ice sculptures, but looks like you all had fun. Congrats to Lulu and her team, and I hope SC got a fair deal from the tooth fairy. Her smile is still pretty.

My gosh, your poor hubby. You do know how lucky you are to have him, I hope. I think Tim would do something bad to me if I posted a photo of him like that!
Anyway, happy for Lulu and her team-Way to go girl!

  32. I don't know what hubby would say if I posted him like that!!! That is hysterical. Those are some amazing ice sculptures. We went to an Ice Castle (haven't got around to posting it yet!) but these would have been a fabulous addition.

  55. OMG the only thing he's missing is the elf. You are too funny!

So you must have these snow roller ( You said DONUTS ) often. Here ( Western Pa / Pittsburgh area ) it's a first as far as I know. I saw on CNN that Ohio is having them too. One of my grandma friend bloggers, Joyce ( www.whathappensatgrandmas.com ) showed them to her little 3 year old granddaughter and SHE called them "Bagels" ! :)

  56. Love the painted faces..Could they be any cuter?? Those ice sculptures are amazing..What talent...Papa reminds me so much of my late husband..You're a hoot..

  58. Great job, Lulu! Both girls look adorable and no, Nana, that first pic/design is not weird. :)

  59. Hahahaha. You can always count on kids to ask questions like that. When my great grandmother's husband died (my great grandfather was about 5 husbands before this guy), I asked my GG "what she did" to him? I remember my mother mortified with me and my GG laughing so hard she spilled her (omnipresent) drink.

  60. Face painting has come a long way from when my kids were little and they might get a little heart or football painted on their cheek. My grand daughter had a face painter at her recent birthday party and the designs were similar to your grandchildren's. YES, only in Green Bay, Wisconsin would folks come out in that type of weather...y'all are a hardy bunch. We are huddled in our homes today with two inches of snow and 20 degree weather...big change for us.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Love the painted faces and I didn't think the first one was creepy at all. I have to say I love seeing another involved Grandpa -- but it is hard work!

    ReplyDelete
  62. "Do you ever look over..." made me laugh, as did Stephen Andrew's comment. Children! :)

I'm glad your friend is on the mend now. ♥

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow those face paintings are amazing. Congrats to the team!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Congrats to Lulu and the team! Papa is a sport about letting you post that photo, LOL! Love the questions kids come up with, but your answer about the mirror is hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  65. HILARIOUS! Debra at Frugal Little Bungalow alerted me to how funny you are! I'm a grandma too now but remember sitting on bleachers for HOURS during volleyball tournaments - and sometimes, I just have to break down and confess - hoping we'd LOSE so I could GO HOME!!!! (just pretend I didn't say that, okay?)
