Romantic Homes December Issue 2013

It is COLD and SNOWY
and I am feeling a tad
lazy tired.

I figured today is a
a good day to do my
"review" of the December issue of
I have to say that I am really disappointed
they removed the little
blogger spotlight features
they used to do.
AND
The whole layout of the magazine has changed
somewhat.  It has a "slicker" feel to it now-
with advertising more prominent.
I hate to say this but I really liked he old
format/style better.

However,
that does NOT mean that there aren't some
great features here.
Let's start with something to EAT!
They highlight these cookies from
Aren't those CUTE COOKIES?
These would be fun to make, wouldn't they?

Do YOU think turquoise/aqua at Christmas?
This is so softly pretty that I just love it!

Try as I might I could not find a direct link
So, it doesn't look like she has
a web site for her business.
She has a fourteen page spread
in this issue and it is called
Christmas On The Cape.
Look- See for yourself!
And LOOK here!
Ellen, if you ever read this-
Can I come sit at your table if I promise not to lick the silverware?
Pleeeease!!!

And here is our sweet Courtney from
She has been shamelessly
 copied but cannot be duplicated.
This Victorian Christmas table is shown by the
very talented Jo-Anne Coletti@
If you don't know her and her artwork you are in for a treat.
She is one of a kind.

You know who else is one of a kind?
MyHero's little friend!
Here he is swinging on the dining room chandelier.
He's on his own in this adventure.
My Hero hasn't done that in years-
although I may have a picture of him with
a lampshade on his head somewhere...

Better be nice to me, MyHero,
or I will post it here!

  1. It looks like another great issue, Diana. I would definitely be seated right next to you @ Ellen's table and I just might want to lick the silverware! lol
    Thanks for sharing with us!

  2. Gorgeous pictures! I use to get that magazine all the time...and many other decorating magazines...but I just rely on blogs now to get my eye candy! lol!

  5. I miss that section too. Changes are inevitable but one that I hope NEVER comes is the end of paper copies. Call me old fashioned but somehow looking at a screen magazine isn't as cozy as flipping through a paper magazine. Besides, how would you dog ear a page?

  6. I used to subscribe to this magazine years ago... I will have to look into it again..
Thanks for sharing all the beauty!

  10. Hi Diana,
I have to agree with you on the Romantic Homes. Not liking the new style so much either. Still one of my fav magazines. I love Elf hanging from the Chandelier. How fun is that to see. Have a great week my friend.

  11. I do wish they hadn't changed it. I love the magazine and was going to subscribed but I'm not fond of the increase in selling things...more advertising and less pretty decorating. I'm going to wait and see what happens. I miss the blog features, it was one of my favorites. But I agree with a previous comment...don't take away our paper magazines!!! I will never view them online...NEVER!

  16. I really love JoAnn and Courtney's styles. It's always a treat to see both of them in Romantic Homes. Have you gotten your Jan. issue yet? Mine came the other day, and I was very disappointed. There was hardly anything in it that interested me. Maybe it was just me!

  17. He's likely to say, go elf yourself if you post that lampshade photo.

  18. Ha, you need to find that picture! LOL!

  19. Beautiful tables! I'm not a regular reader of this magazine, but I may become one.

  20. HEHEHEHE..on the elf! Little trouble maker. Kinda disappointing on the mag. I suppose they are just trying something new for now to see how it goes over.

  21. I received my copy today in the mail and haven't had time to puruse the pages yet. But what a bummer about the blog spotlights! That's where I always discovered a new blog to follow. :( (sigh) Change isn't always a good thing, but it's usually inevitable. Glad that you could spend this cold snowy day cuddled up inside, Diana! Looks like it's gonna be a lonnnnng winter. :)

  22. Your hero's little friend is having a good time..Pretty table settings..I'm not a fan of blues at Christmas..Maybe navy...pretty with snow..I guess I'm just a traditionalist..More snow tomorrow..

  23. Some very pretty and festive scenes here !

  24. It's too bad they have deleted the blogger spotlight feature. That was how I became famous! Hahaha!!!
Thank you for featuring this magazine once a month, I cannot afford at this time to buy magazines, they are so very, very expensive. But, looking through blogs happens to be free as long as I have a computer, so that is what I do. I love finding new blogs and you've shown me a few here and I thank you again.
    Love and hugs, Cindy

  25. I am a little disappointed in the magazine also. I don't know why they feel they have to make so many changes.
Your elf is so cute. I put a lot of them into my garland over the hutch.
    Have had them for years.
You need a rest - you have been in high gear for tooooo long. Take a day off and stay in bed and RELAX, you deserve it.

  26. There are beautiful features in Romantic Homes this month, but I'm also missing the "Site Seeing" section of highlighted bloggers.

  27. That elf is really getting into trouble now. I am all for the lamp shade photo, as long as he's not in his underwear again.
Cold here, too. Blah on winter.

  28. I have, through the years, grown disappointed with all my favorites. I released all my subscriptions...some I'd had for thirty years...and only purchase a magazine once or twice a year. With Pinterest and beautiful blogs, I have not missed them. This issue would interest me.

  29. Some people are so talented. I have to say my favorite is the Vintage Rose Garden - the pink roses. sandie

  30. I am surprised, but I love that aqua! Thanks for sharing, I look forward to your review as I don't get RH anymore. I quit my subscription a few years ago when the format moved away from the shabby fluffy look

  31. I have found that so many of my favorite magazines have gone that route...more advertising than content. Disappointing. Loving the elf. Ours looks just like him!! LOL

  32. there is something SO familiar about your hero's friend's little face. . .
it looks a lot like sweet cheeks!

  33. I'm not a reader of the magazine, but that Victorian Table setting is to die for!

  34. These are all beautiful. I am partial to reds and pinks but the aqua is so pretty.

  35. some great magazine features for sure. Tonight I was at a friend's house, and their elf was hanging from a fan inside a pair of (clean) underware...how fun

  36. That elf is having too much fun. I hate when magazines change their format like that, but looks like some great features. xo Laura

  37. Lots of great photos here...I'd love to see that full Cape Cod spread. I don't know who's have more fun...the elf, you or us, waiting to see what he's going to be up to next!

  38. Great features Diana...LOVE LOVE that home on the Cape!!
Now I think you should break out one of those pictures;)

  40. Ya know...I thought the same thing when I first opened mine. But I did enjoy the photos, especially the turquoise and whites...beautiful! I sure hope you got warm...I am freezing to death!

  41. I just hate when they change up my magazines. I am a creature of habit. Glad to see the elf is having fun at your house. It's like Elf On A Shelf for adults.

  42. I like E & B Designs because I gotta have my RED décor at Christmas. Such lovely ideas here. Oh by the way, if you get a chance, stop by tomorrow for the "Tis The Season Blog Tour" and say hello. I think you'll enjoy it.
