My Reading Room-You'll LOVE It!

Do you love to read?
I do!
Do you want to know WHERE I read?

Sadly, this is NOT where I read.
No, I read in a much more private place.
A place where NO ONE can just barge in and
start talking.

Every day when I go get a
STARBUCKS coffee,
I pull off into the parking lot of the abandoned
Cub Foods store.
I pull the book out of the side panel
of my car door and
I READ!

IF I read at home I have 100 distractions.
Things that CALL MY NAME and wait
for me to take care of them.
But HERE there is NO TASK that calls me.
It is so quiet that I can sit and read in peace.
for a few minutes or more.

Oh!  I  do have a reading companion.
Isn't he cute?
He waits and hopes
I will throw him something to eat.
I won't feed him because I don't want
MY READING ROOM
to look like this!

Care to join me?
Bring a book and
I'll buy you a coffee.
Of course, we probably won't read
because we will be too busy talking.
Leave your book at home. m'kay?

  1. Diana, You surely don't do this in the winter too. If you do you'll need the big cup of coffee.:):) Ewwee that bird poo car...I couldn't be near it and have a coffee. I have seen those before though.LOL Hope you are having some good weather. xoxo,Susie

  2. I totally get your "quiet" space. There are times that I've pulled off in a parking lot to make cell phone calls to my mother/sister so that I can talk in peace/quiet without the girls interrupting every 10 seconds.

  3. I love to sit and relax with a nice hot cup of coffee and read too Diana... I read in my little corner in our bedroom though... occasionally Tessy comes in to see what her mama is doing... but otherwise all is quiet... I have a little fireplace there which makes it extra cozy, especially on days like today... we are 33 degrees right now... brrr!... Happy reading!... xoxo Julie Marie

  4. Now, that is really getting away from things! But, it's a neat routine and so glad you discovered your favorite reading place!! Lynda

  5. The car sounds like a good place to me, especially until you get that great library built!!! LOL Of course you'd have to put a lock on the door to keep out the distractions. I end up reading in the car a lot. I always take my Kindle with me when Kevin and I go somewhere, in case I end up waiting for him when he goes into Menards. LOL

  6. Diana
It does look like a very comfortable place to read!
I read in the car too for the same reason, only while someone else is driving.

  7. It's funny how our car can sometimes be our only isolation. Our own space!

I am assuming that your reading room closes for the Winter!

  8. Your post is so funny! I have a friend who reads in her bathroom! I read mostly at night as I am not a good sleeper. Only the cat can distract me then. Oh... gotta go, pie in the oven!

  9. what a great idea...wish we had a little coffee shop like that, I'd go in, but it would probably be too chummy to get much reading done

  10. Hi there, I've never thought of that, except when I'm picking hubby up from the airport and have to wait for him. Love that reading room-so beautiful but I wouldn't love to dust all those books.
    Have a great day.
    Hugs, Noreen

  11. Some people read in their bathrooms so they are not disturbed. I like to read in my bed just before I go to sleep to help clear my mind.

  12. hehe Diana..oh that is funny.. your reading room and seagulls(:)
well am so glad you came by ..nice to meet you ..
....and me too-- I think Sheri is the best (:)

  13. Everyone needs a place to read. At work it's at my desk at lunch time. I get quite a lot done in 45 minutes. At home it's at the kitchen table while I eat breakfast. I never thought about it, but I guess I need to eat to read! Ha, ha.

  14. Your reading room looks pretty nice to me. And I get distracted, here, too. I normally read in bed.... late at night while distractions are sleeping.

  15. Hahaha... You're too funny!
The kids were watching The Big Green the other day and the kids in the movie covered themselves in cheetos so that the birds would land on them and eat the cheetos, I was like HECK NO, I don't want bird poop on me, but the kids thought it was a great idea! I really wish that first picture was your reading room, I would pack my bags in leave in 5 to come read with you!!! lol
    Much love,
    Tammy

  16. Thanks for the welcome back Diana! Been so long!!
I love to read too and actually am headed to the library this afternoon to pick out some books for me and Sam!
How's that Sweet Cheeks doing? Probably in College by now!

  17. Hello Diana, I really think this is really a great idea! I do not have to do this because most the time around here it is quiet.
But I did use to carry my book that I was reading with me where ever I may have went!
I hoped you enjoyed your cousins!
Getting into a good book sounds delightful right about now!
    Blessings, Roxy

  18. Love the pretend reading room! That would be wonderful, if only the room monitored the noise for me and only true emergencies noises were allowed to get in! Like where you read your book! That is a good reason to get away for a bit and read! Your compainion is cute, but don't blame you I wouldn't feed him either!

  19. Am not a reader and don't drink coffee but I bet we could talk until we were both hoarse!!

  20. Wish you were closer and we could meet for coffee and maybe take a walk and of course chat a lot. I like that you read in your car.
The picture of the car with all the poo.....well that's what ours look like when the buzzards return. I don't think I can take another year of that. Have a happy week, my friend.

  21. LOL LOVE this post! I read in carpool line every day....my favorite place to read. :D

I want that library!!!! Oh, my......

    ReplyDelete
  22. Before when I could only ride with Steve somewhere and couldn't go in, I would take a book with me. But there were too many distractions and I was too busy people watching to bother with the book...I can read here better, but the internet gets first choice anymore...but I read a lot every day!

    ReplyDelete
  23. When I saw the 1st photo I thought who could read without looking around this room! Just be careful there! Doors locked!

    ReplyDelete
  24. *sigh* Just look at that library - gorgeous! But hey, reading in the car is a great place :) You know, when I was younger and lived at home, my mom and I would have a nap in the car after we got back from town because it was so cozy and warm.

    Have a great day, friend!

  25. oh love your blog.

Mrs Humour lady herself with funny pictures. Yiles big splashes.

Oh I caught my readers as you seen in the park. A couple.

It sure reminded me of you when you said reading .

I read yours and I forgot to write my comment. So when you came in to my pad. I go. Oh my.

    So here I am again.

  26. Oh we have similar reading rooms. I have been known to be disappointed that a doctor's office visit for my hubby did not go on long enough. He's never impressed with that. These are prime car reading days, too...the weather is neither too warm or too cold.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ha Ha Diana,
I have a similar reading room. I get my ice tea and then head to an open parking lot where the parking lot seagulls are. They are funny little creatures and love to hang out hoping someone will through them something!!! It is fun to have the fresh air and quiet and a few minutes to yourself. I hear ya!!!! Awesome reading room.

  28. Diana,
I love to read too, but would never thought of my car. Perhaps because the phone still rings thru to the Bluetooth unless I turn it off. What a great idea, a few quiet moments each day are truly a luxury worth indulging!

PS: be sure to put Sir Paul on your bucket list- you won't be disappointed :)

  29. I love to read. I like your idea of reading while you have your coffee. It is a very good idea not to feed your companion.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's funny! I would probably fall asleep if I was sitting in my car! I read in bed or curled up in my chair in the living room...of course sometimes I fall asleep there too!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have done that too Diana!
Hey girlfriend, how do you manage to keep your car so very clean with grand-kids always tagging along.
Mine looks like a toddler haven right now and not in a good way either.
    Hugs friend,
    Cindy

  32. I can't believe I'm this old and have never thought to do this! I'm going right now...see 'ya.

  33. I never have time to read at home...when I sit, I see that there is always something that needs to be tended to....so I do my reading in the car..on the way to someplace when my hubby is driving...love reading companions!

  34. That sounds like the perfect spot for quiet time and reading.Wish I had time to read a book.No time between blog reading and magazine reading....LOL!

  35. What a great way to treat yourself. I occasionally will drive to Tim Horton's on my lunch break just to get away from everything. I usually check my emails but reading for a few minutes sounds so much nicer. It's great to socialize with other staff but sometimes I just need some 'me' time.

  36. hehe..well witches are in ..at my house this Halloween
I change things up every year

  37. Looks like that car has been deserted as well..I was trying to imagine where you could possibly read and how you could find the time...Of course you make it happen..

    ReplyDelete
  38. You will be very comfortable with me in your reading spot because I'll be reading and won't pester you with talk.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Diana you are so funny as I was reading this I started cracking up and my mom was like why are you laughing so hard...I had to share this with her so now we both are cracking up....thanks for the great stories! Oh and yes I would love to have coffee with you!!!

  40. You have a great sense of humor and a nice car! lol Looks like a wonderful place to read. I think that is a great idea. What do you do in the winter? I think it's a great idea - sometimes I need a place to have some quiet - now I do.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I know just what you mean. I have so many distractions at home and need peace and quiet to settle in with a good book or magazine.

    ReplyDelete
  42. LOL.. I have to say, I have never heard of quite that kind of reading room before. But hey, whatever works for ya!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I know we see people reading when we sit in the car at the marina here in our town, I suppose they do it for the same reasons, I have to say though, I like the look of that first library, I truly do,

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hey Diana,

What a clever way to get some well needed reading done!
I sometimes sneak out with the car just to listen to music without being "called".

I am glad you are back!

p.s. the photo showing the inside of a car... was that really your car? If it was... My goodness... it looks sooooo clean. Can you come over and take care of mine?
Mine looks like a - I do not know what... office aka play room for kids?

    Hug,

    Sandy

  45. Love that you get to read with seagulls! None here, but plenty in my home town, where I lived on a lake.

  46. I think I have the problem fixed, I had to start my email back up, everything was a bit messed up, I think it will work now, thanks so much for letting me know, night night,

  47. Hi Diana, oh yes I do love to read too and love finding a cozy spot to relax and enjoy a good book or magazine.
Love your reading room and the friend near by.
    Have a nice evening.
    Hugs!

  48. You are so right about the distractions at home. When I worked I take my brown bag lunch out to my car and read (and nap) and just enjoy the quietness. Now I think I need to find me a birdless parking lot close to home.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Good for you! I'd love to join you but I know we wouldn't read. I think it's so important to carve out precious time for one self.

  50. That's too funny! I love your reading room. I totally get it!
Most of my reading is done late at night in bed or on vacation or while traveling. I get too distracted too!

    Smart girl.
I will have to try this soon!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I like your reading nook! I always have a book with me in the car, too. Maybe I need to go to Starbuck's and find myself a nice empty parking lot for the mornings like you!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh my gosh! That is hilarious! I love to read too, and I just feel guilty when I sit down to do it. I wait until bedtime and then fall asleep too quickly, so I haven't come anywhere near my goal of 52 books this year. Do blogs count? I guess it is my goal, so I can change it if I want too. What are you reading now?

    ReplyDelete
  53. We are kindred spirits, you and I. I don't do it often, but just a week ago I went to choir practice (alone!) an hour early so I would have time for Starbucks and some reading in the car. Have a lovely day!

    ReplyDelete
  54. You poor thing. You are more than welcome to come over and sit in my tub anytime and read to your heart's content. lol

    xoxo laurie

  55. First of all that's the cleanest car I've ever seen and second of all I want that first photo ( the library ) is that gorgeous or what?
Oh and third of all how long do you sit in your car reading - and if that bird distracts you, you may as well read at home LMHO !!!
    xxx

  56. Oh I love this. Haha what a great idea. Right now I'm reading 'Grain Brain', 'Neurosis and Human Growth' and 'Heartburn'. Hahaha I got a little carried away in the self-help section.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I always carry my Kindle with me. When ever I have to wait on an appointment or a friend that I take to the grocery store I just take it out and start reading. If course I live alone so I don't get many distractions. Like to ready out on the patio.
    Have a great one.

  63. Oh my goodness! Due to a disability, our daughter cannot drive. I used to drive her to college and sit in the parking lot for a couple of hours and read. I just loved the quiet time with no distractions. You are absolutely right...however, I think I have ADHD because I was always distracted by the birds. lol.
Sometimes we just need a quiet place away from everyone pulling and tugging at us.
    xoxo.

  64. I love it. Sometimes, when I have both the kids buckled into the car seats I will put on a movie in the car and sit in a random parking lot and do something mindless and unnecessary like look through my entire pinterest feed or comment on all of my friend's facebook posts. It's divine!

    ReplyDelete
  65. You are a nut! So...you are one of "those" people I see parked in a random out of the way parking space... maybe under a tree... and I always wonder, "what are they doing there" I used to read at the park until I was attacked by a crazed squirrel. Now I read at night, while my husband snores...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh, that sounds like me, Diana. Some days I drive through Starbucks and off I go to the park to read, pray, think, and listen. No distractions, right? This post hit home for me today.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  67. I do the exact same thing. It's always warm and cozy in my car and soooo quite. I love to sit inside and watch the world go on around me. I'd love to come sit in your car with you but, I know there would be no reading going on. The two of us would never shut up long enough!
