Shabby Chic Surprises At Every Turn

You know I am helping my
friend, Ruth, sort through her "stuff"
so we can stage her house.
We have gone through
her
formal living room
and
two bedrooms so far.
We have emptied closets,
emptied chests of drawers,
and emptied baskets
and storage containers.
She knew what she had but
I was smiling all over when
I discovered some of the pretty things
she had hidden away.
We have found some very wonderful pieces.
She has trunks and trunks and trunks.
These are going to auction and
YOU WON'T BELIEVE
what is hiding inside.
I'll show you tomorrow if I can get my act together.

Love cherubs?
She has several!
The auction house is coming in a few days.
Meanwhile, we are sorting and packing.
Ruth is making some fast decisions
and I am proud of her.
It is no easy feat to let go of
things you have collected for years.
They have offered me anything I want.
They are generous like that.
But....I, too, have
SO MUCH STUFF,
but I found a few little things
that make me smile and think of Ruth.
I'll show you the BIG THING they gave
me soon-after I break the news to
My Hero....shhhhhh

As for the Mr?
Well, I told him he had to pack his
OWN DRAWERS
(literally)
cuz  I was afraid I might come across
something that looked like THIS!

Ha!  You have NO IDEA how funny
this really is....Tom in a Speedo!!!!!
Think CONSERVATIVE and MODEST.
I am probably "in for it" when
I get there this morning!
I hope he doesn't shove me in one
of those trunks and slam the lid shut.
Things like that HAVE been known
to happen, you know!!!!

  8. I LOVE the bedspread in the first picture! I'm on the lookout for one like that for my bedroom! It is WAY too much FUN to help others "clean house"! It's like getting ready for an estate sale!
I've done it myself! "We" found the dog's ashes along with the "Mr" ashes. The lady of the home was in a nursing home at the time! You NEVER know what you will find is so true! LOL!
    Warmly,
    deb

p.s. wish I could come to the auction!!!

  16. You are just like Houdini! You'd make it out of that trunk!:-) It sounds as though Ruth has been giving this some thought before the time came to actually go into action. It is difficult to part with pretty things. I'm not ready!

  19. I remember when we downsized to sell our home. Still have said home, hah. My son and his wife came and really got the ball rolling. My husband still hasn't found one of his dress shoes. It was before I blogged and started liking vintage. Yikes the things that went in that dumpster. I am now getting rid of things that I am not using, little by little. I t has to be a big help having you and a lot more fun. Can't wait to see the big thing.

  21. Cool stuff! Wish I could attend that auction :) But I prolly need to do more cleaning out myself...being in temporary housing reminds you of how little you actually need to be happy. But I do miss some of my cottage knick-knacks, packed away till the house is built.

  22. I don't know whether I should be happy for you to see all the good things or tired for you...cuz I KNOW that is a LOT of work!

  47. I have such mixed feelings on this. I have stuff stashed away too..and I know one day I will have to start parting with things..(I already have!) and after I do give things away..there is this feeling inside..and it's hard to put it into words. It isn't that I don't want to do it, I do...
How nice of her to be willing to let you take some of the things home with you that she has collected over the years. :) I know it makes her feel good knowing that you will treasure them, and the just the little I know you..I have NO doubt that you will! :)

  48. Oh, I needed the laugh the final photo brought. :)

P.S. You're a good friend. I know it can't be an easy task, physically or emotionally, helping a friend do what has to be done.
