Hi Ho Hi Ho It Is Off To School We Go

Get your coffee.
This is the longest conversation
I have ever posted  I think.
I am writing it so the girls
can read it someday.

The girls don't often spend the night
at my house when they have school
the next day.
However,
the other night was an exception
and SweetCheeks ended up
spending the night by herself.
She did her
 " Kiddygarden homework"
sitting at the island.
She ate dinner, took a bubble bath
and went off to bed early.
I had to wash her clothes so she could wear
her same school uniform the next day.
She was up early, ate a good breakfast,
brushed her teeth, got dressed and
was ready to go.
As we are walking out of the house
the phone rang.
Ria:  Tell SweetCheeks today is dress down day.
She's supposed to wear something besides
her uniform.
(The catch is you "buy" the right to do that
by bringing a non-perishable food item
for those in need)-great idea, huh

uh-oh-here is "the look"
after getting that news.
Too late to change now-
we are 60 steps from the car
and will be late if we stop now.
I pick up Ria & Lulu at their house to drop
all three of them off at school.
Conversation in the car as we drive away.
Ria:  SCheeks- I brought you an outfit you can
change in the bathroom.
SC:  R-I-A.....What outfit did you get?
Ria:  A nice one-you can change in the bathroom.
SC:  Did you bring me a can of food?
Ria:  Yep!
Me:  Did you bring one for yourself, too?
Ria:  Nana!  Stop- Go back-I forgot one
for myself.
We back up about a city block
(they live on a cul de sac-no traffic)
Ria runs in and gets a can of food.
Seat belt buckled we start for school again.
Lulu- SCheeks! Do have the scrip money?
SC:  Yup!
Lulu-Let me see it!
SC: (scrambling madly in her back pack)
Here it is!
Lulu:  That's not it, SCheeks.
SC:  Wehll, Sorrhee, Lulu- I don't know what it is anyways!
Lulu:  Nana- Stop- We have to go back
and get the scrip money.
This time we back up TWO city blocks.
Lulu runs in house-and can't find the
scrip envelope anywhere.
Back in the car -seat belts all buckled.
Me:  Lulu- what are you going to do if
you don't have your scrip envelope?
Lulu:  Nothing- we don't need it today anyway.
SC:  Who's gonna help me change in the bathroom?
Ria:  Lulu will.  I'm supposed to see my friends.
SC:  Lulu- will you help me?
Lulu:  (big sigh)   Yeah- I guess so.
SC:  I hate this world!
We get to school.
We hold the drop off line up for
a full three minutes while we unload
three backpacks,
a bag of SCheek's clothes..
SCheek's snow pants, mittens and hat,
and the package that drops out the door
when they get out.
Me:  Bye, girls-Love you-Have a good day.
SCheeks:  Pffffttt....It's already a bad day!

And that folks, is why I ordered a
TRIPLE shot at Starbucks before
I headed home.

  3. sounds like a pretty typical morning trying to get all my kids out the door to school, though the boys would be rough housing and someone would get hurt and the bus would be waiting outside beeping the horn and Id be yelling.. hurry up hurry up! I'm not driving you to school!!

  5. LOL! It sounds like Sweet Cheeks needed a triple shot of chocolate in her chocolate milk, Diana. : ) Poor kid! I used to hate when there were mornings like this before school started when I was a kid. It affected my whole day.

  6. That sounds like a normal day at my house LOL!!! Our school does the same thing on dress down days. We either bring in food for the local food pantries or a dollar and they send the money to a local charity.
I LOVE "the look" from Sweet Cheeks!!

  8. LOL- no wonder you pull your hair out sometimes. They are such little blessings covered in fun, aren't they? Good thing SC has 2 older sisters to watch out for her. Just wait until high school. Might be worth getting them their own car so you can sleep in.

  10. Diana, I remember those days! Three kids in the back seat every morning to drop off at two different schools and everyday somebody forgot something. And when all was said and done, had to get myself to work on time. Don't know how I survived! LOL Now, they all drive themselves to work and school and I just enjoy the peace and quiet while I drink my coffee and blog. :) At leas until they start giving me grandchildren! LOL

  22. Sounds just like a usual school morning.:-) We had to have our girls out the door at 7:25 to catch the school bus. That was much too early, in my opinion, but it did not improve. Our mornings always seemed to be rushed. I often felt like I had already run a marathon.:-)

    Have a good Friday!

When our grands were little, same thing about not staying at our house on a school night but things DO come up...so they stayed several times during the year. 32. Just chuckling at the memories I have of very similar days...
Now tell SC from me that she should sit down to write her own version of Alexanders "Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day" : )
And you go have another Starbucks, If I lived closer, I would buy you one myself....

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh Diana, I hope that you are keeping a log of all those fun times you are having with your "GIRLS". I look forward to reading about their experiences in everyday life. LOL Some of it probably is stressful for you but reading it always make me chuckle. But look at all the memories they are making.
Have a very special weekend and maybe the snow will melt.

  36. Sometimes I wonder how I did this on a daily basis. I was lucky...only 2 kids and the town was so small that I could get back home in less that 5 minutes with the exception of the years they were in 5th and 6th grade. I can still multi-task well, but it is with my tasks, not those of small ones!

  57. You just took me back.

I miss those days sooooo much.

I would love a call to run forgotten compression (jock) shorts to school before the team bus leaves, or the day we woke to find that our dear departed Chocolate Lab, Shelby ate Guatamala!

I watched kids before and after school. All of my kiddos knew my guilty pleasure..."single grande non fat latte with two pumps vanilla!

I hope my grands are close by so I can have a relationship so wonderful as the one you have with yours, Sweet D!
