SO...POKE THE CAKE?
assuming that the world did
NOT go spinning out of control
as was predicted by many
"experts".
If it DID and TOOK ME
you will have this recipe
to remember me by!
SO...POKE THE CAKE?
That's Right!
Poke the Cake.
Better than a cake in the pokey*,
right?
Or at least I think so...
Can't say as
I have never BEEN in the pokey*,
have you?
Never mind- some things are
best kept to oneself.
*Pokey= jail
Or at least I think so...
Can't say as
I have never BEEN in the pokey*,
have you?
Never mind- some things are
best kept to oneself.
*Pokey= jail
This is an OLD OLD recipe.
I have been making it
since my kids were little.
I am a creature of habit
so I am
STILL MAKING this cake.
It presents so sweetly!
If you click on the photo above
it will take you right to the recipe.
Bake the cake as normal
in 8" or 9"round pans.
While it is still hot
poke holes into it.
Like this...
Wondering what the green is there,
are you?
Well, it's NOT mold.
No, indeedy...it is
GREEN JELLO.
And guess what?
You do the same thing with the
other layer with RED JELLO.
Then stick them in the fridge so
the Jello sets up.
In a couple of hours, set the pan
in a bit of hot water for a minute
and then pop them out of the pan.
Frost them with one of
God's not-really-cream
creations.
Like this!
Layer them and then
"frost" all over with
Cool Whip.
Then, put a few little berries
on top of that baby to dress it up.
Watch your grandkids eyes
light up when you cut into it.
If you did it right~
At some point it will look
like THIS!
Every family needs a
TEST TASTER.
As Martha Stewart would say.
That's a good thing.
How fantastic is that cake!! If my weekend obligations didn't include loads of traveling, I'd love to try that recipe. Christmas hugs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty cake!!! I'll have to try this out - but I have to make two chocolate cream pies and 2 lemon meringue pies for Christmas dessert - tradition and all that sort of thing lol.
ReplyDeleteI need a tester like sweet cheeks!
XOX
Diana, Your sweetcheeks makes a very good tester to see if it is good. I have never made it with a green and red layers, but I have made it with all red layers. It is yummy and makes me hungry. I get to go out in the cold today to work. Then be off for four days. Enjoy your day. Hugs and Prayers Your Missouri Friend.

Diana, That cake is very pretty. Everyone would like a slice. Today would be a good baking day, it's blowing all the snow around here. Stay warm, I know you got plenty of snow. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteServe my slice with a cup of coffee, please.
ReplyDeleteI'll even leave a tip. Send us all to the kitchen to clean the pans, that's my tip.
I just made this cake a while a while back and it flopped. My jello just dissolved into the cake and did not make jelly channels like this one, wonder what I did wrong?Love that sweet cheeks, she could test my cakes anytime,

The first time I saw/tasted this cake was in 1979. My college boyfriend's mom made it for their Christmas dinner. It was delicious! Love that taste tester; she takes her job very seriously!
ReplyDeleteI have made jello poked cake dozens of times through the years but I have never seen a lovelier presentation!
ReplyDeleteHow great for Christmas. I have always made my jello cakes in 9x13 pans and just leave them in the pan (ok, I'm lazy). This is a much prettier way to serve!

I used to make what I just called Jello Cake quite often when my boys were little. This summer I made one for my grandson's birthday cake and covered it with whipped cream and fruit. It was just right since we had such a heat wave that month.
ReplyDeleteYOURS is lovely ....I have never done a double layer one and now I think I shall try! :)
Hi Diana,
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks so pretty and delicious! Thank you for sharing!
Hugs,
~Wendy
I'm pinning this one to make for the grands! I have to make pies for Christmas but this one will be fun for their next visit.
ReplyDeleteDear Diana,

So fun catching up with you this morning.
