Yes, V is for
Vegetation -
otherwise known as PLANTS.
However,
I needed a V word..
so..
Vegetation is what you get!
Wonder WHAT plants
I am talking about?
If you have followed for a while
you know that I planted one of
those mail order gardens
out front.
Everyone laughed when I
got that box with all of
those silly little plants in it.
I think I heard the word
"rip off" pass some lips.
However,
three years later those
"silly little plants"
have turned into this.
It's a jungle I tell you.
A living breathing jungle of
VEGETATION.
It does NOT look good with
the front of our house.
Kinda scary, huh?
To give you an idea,
those are floor to ceiling windows..
crazy plants have taken on
a life of their own.
Soooo...
after much deliberation,
I decided
we needed to move this garden
to the back fence.
I told MyHero that if he would
till up along the back fence
I would dig up the plants
out front.
We took a truckload of plants
(about half of them)
to my friend, Ellie
She just moved to a new house
that had NO plants.
Some of them went back
behind our garage.
The rest?
Well...
Here is MyHero doing what he
loves to do best
using the Mantis to roto-till
up the ground.
Oh- Yeah...It's a
Hunka-Hunka Burning Love...
Oh wait-
that's just sweat!
Here she is..
all roto-tilled and waiting
for me.
It doesn't look it but it about
4 feet wide and 20 feet long.
And, here she is all planted.
The plants will not look pretty this
Fall but they will be pretty
next year.
At the far end is
My New Dawn Rose
which I hope will survive the
move and scramble up along the
fence behind the other plants.
And, MyHero?
Well, he says when it comes
to working in the garden
I am a
"thorn in his side."
Hmmmpfff...
Wait till he sees what I have
waiting in the back of the
truck to replant the front area
now that I have a blank slate.
If you don't hear from me in
a couple of days please send
someone over to look for
unusual lumps in the
planting area....
Ya know what I mean?
I've had garden areas that outgrew their location. Some plants grow so tall and many spread like wildfire! It's never as fun to dig up and replant is it??? By next spring the back fence area will be gorgeous. Looking forward to what will go in the front! Enjoy your Sunday.
ReplyDeleteLOL - you are too funny - I will be waiting for your next post with bated breath - or I'll send the state troopers to your place.
ReplyDeleteOn second thought I may come down and look for you myself and stay a week or 2 - it looks absolutely gorgeous!
Big hugs,
yep this is what I did early spring this year.. my front had so overgrown is was pitiful- had to all be pulled out and redone.
ReplyDeletefor sure it will be pretty next fall once all the plants have "moved in-gotten settled -and decorated" lol
take your time and dont hurt yourself.
Oh my gosh...that is so much work..but I must say I so admire you and your "hunka..hunka" man for doing all of this. I'm sure, with your green thumb that backyard garden will look beautiful in no time!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
Diana, Those mailbox gardens do work out. I had one when I lived in town. Now all my gardening is trial and error, even though I have read many gardening books. I bought a flat of Patchysandra, when we were in town. It's a border plant. I lined the fence in town, the flowerbeds,as it grows so well and is hardy. I brought a clump out her to the country and have about enough to make 5 flats full. I have it growing everywhere. I plan on giving my daughter some starts. xo, Susie
ReplyDeletewow, that was a big job but i understand completely, sometimes things just grow differently than what we have envisioned and need to be moved, I did a lot of moving about in our property too, with much the same reaction from my husband, must be a guy thing, I will be anxious to see what you relpace all the lovely plants with,
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge job! I have the same one waiting for me this fall and I am not looking forward to it! I can't wait to see how your garden looks next year when it's all settled in and I'm curious to see what you do with the front now that you've moved all the plants out of the way.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are ambitious. That was one HUGE job. I'm sure it will be lovely next spring when everything has settled. Chris is planning on working in his flower/shrub beds this afternoon doing the exact same thing. I'm going to hide behind my stack of laundry (tee hee).
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lot of work Diana! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to move them, Diana. I've had to do that myself at our old house. And when I say "myself", I mean myself! I asked my hubby to help me weed one time and he was pulling up hostas. I think he did it on purpose so he wouldn't have to weed ever again {and it worked}.
ReplyDeleteUm, boy, I have one of those hunka hunka burning loves, too. I don't know why they whine so when we need some man power!
ReplyDeleteYou are sure there would be a lump, huh? I'm thinking he might just pitch you in the water, and watch you float away, or borrow the speed boat and haul you out to the middle.
ReplyDeleteToo cute! I guess the plants did sort of take over in front of the house but along the fence will be perfect! Sounds like mine... he always makes a funny groaning sound when I start talking about doing something in the yard.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I think the plants looked good in front of the house, just a bit overwhelming. I think transplanting along the fence is a perfect idea.
ReplyDeleteCan I have some of your gardening ambition? I have a side and back yard in desparate need of digging up and replanting. uhg! i dont like that kind of work. but I've been saying that it needs to be done for a couple years. pass some gardening ambition this way please!
ReplyDeletehappy sunday!
If I don't hear from you - I'll bring my shovel and dig you up myself! *lol*
ReplyDeleteLucy lady. I can't get my other half to help in the garden. Says been there done that!
ReplyDeleteThe new garden is going to look fabulous by next spring. Hope you are enjoying some of this fab weather that rolled in yesterday........Happy Sunday!
Oh my! You both stay very busy! And I know you appreciate all of the help you get from your sweet hubby! I couldn't have a blog (or a computer) without mine! lol Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about those kits, nice to see they are tried and true. I know the plants are going to be a bright spot along your fence! Have you done something where they once were? I bet it was hard digging them up, I would have rather done the rototilling!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Whew! Looks like a lot of work. Have a great SUNday! xo
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny girl, I'll be looking for lumps if I don't hear from you again!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your home's location, I guess I just never realized you are next to a body of water...lucky you I love the view and it'll look even better with a newly planted bed!
Tell My Hero, he's a good man!
Terry
PS thanks for coming by and seeing the finished kitchen, yep it was so worth it in the end!
That's one heck of a job, but it's going to look so pretty in the spring. When I want my husband to help, I'll just drag out the power equipment and casually ask which of these holes I put the gas in and he normally just jumps right in to do it himself.
ReplyDeleteOh, Diana, you kill me. I literally was laughing out loud over your Hunka-Hunka Burning Love comment... I think he did good. It will look so nice next year.
ReplyDeleteO - is for Overachiever!! How in the world you found time to do that in between birthdays, grandchildren, refinishing furniture and blogging is beyond me. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYou've been so busy my pretty Lady Diana! You don't stop and that's what keeps you looking so young! You cracked me up with your Hunka-Hunka Burning Love, your Hero is wonderful too!!...It's going to look fabulous next year. Have a blessed week and rest up a little, hon.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Hey at least your hunk responds; I told mine I wanted to shampoo our bedroom carpet(thanks to the puppy)and he never says a thing-not "I'll help or do it" or anything. I figure when he is gone in Oct. for a few days, I will do it myself.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Noreen
Those little tiny plants grow into big messes sooner than we ever think they will. Looks like you are making beautiful changes. Looking good already! But no unusual lumps, please!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny, Diana! Your post made me laugh out loud! Hope you have a nice week!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Janet
You are such a twisted sister! I love this post! So what happened to the front? I want to see that. Steve won't let me post him topless...he does check my blog. Its not a pretty sight either. May save those shots for Halloween!
ReplyDeleteNow, you could have chosen V for violin. I believe one of your lovely granddaughters is playing that instrument!
ReplyDeleteIf you plant it, it will grow!:) I need to relocate some that are flourishing at the front of the house, too, yet I'm not moving too quickly about it.:) Good job, Diana!
Whew, lots of work! I love what I see though! Your home is lovely and all of the plants have had lots of Nana love; they're so pretty! Don't work your hero too hard! I'll be watching for your next post! Don't want to have to call the police! Ha! Ha!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Oh boy, you are going to be busy, busy, busy!
ReplyDeleteLOL your too funny Diana!! We did one of those gardens in our first house. It was the hubbies idea and I was the one saying "look at these silly little plants, they'll never grow!" Well by the following year it looked beautiful! Guess I had to eat my words;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
you just made me laugh really hard!...I needed that! looks good already!
ReplyDeleteLMTO!!!! Mew always makes catsnacks come out my nose! I should learn or at least try and remember not to snack while reading your posts!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the "box" of seeds....looks like you more than got your money's worth there! You got plants enough for three new locations AND a yardman! No, no I understand it's not the pool guy but well it was just a box of seeds, so I figure you still did pretty good. Some boxes come with UPS men, some with pool guys and others, well a yard man. Hey look on the bright side it could have come with a plumber :( Ewwwwww. Okay so I'll be sure and check for fresh lumpy dirt if I don't hear back from you. Afterall, I've missed you much and would really hate to have to find another friend. Surely no one could make me laugh as much as mew!
Purrs,
Your favorite feline,
Romeo
You've been a busy girl...that was a lot of work digging those plants up,and replanting them! The new flower garden will be beautiful in no time! This post made me feel quite guilty. The beginning of the summer my neighbor went to visit her sis in CA for a couple of weeks, her daughter and I took turns feeding her cats,(outside).
ReplyDeleteShe asked me to move her car once in awhile, so it looked like someone was there. One day moving her car, I noticed three boxes on her porch, so I promptly moved them to her trunk so nobody would steal her goodies...You've probably guessed, she ordered bulbs and plant starts too, and sadly they all fried in the heat of her trunk...She didn't tell me,
but weeks later, I asked if she'd found the boxes in the trunk. :( She actually got reimbursed by the company!!! Hugs, Debbie @ Cottage Hann~Me~Downs
What a hero you have! It looks great, that's for sure! Our front entryway is overgrown! Time to get the trimmer out and trim it into submission!!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week, Diana!
Hugs,
Becky
Diana,
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny!!
The plants look great there...
I bought one small perennial in the beginning of the season and that sucker has taken over one half of my small yard!!
I think I will move it next spring to the back of the yard against the fence.
Hugs,
Deb
Very funny! If only my thumb were as green as yours! I know your efforts will be well worth the trouble!
ReplyDeleteHugs, GraceinAZ (Pat)
My sister bought a house that my daughter had rented 12 yrs. before. Daughter (you know Farm Girl) bought a mail order garden. My sister is now pulling out all the overgrown plants that have survived, with no care, for all those years! The hostas have been thinned and transplanted to about 30 feet along my fence line! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that was a lot of work! Hope everything survives the move. It's nice to have some cooler weather to get back outside and do some work in the yard.
ReplyDeleteOh, Diana....You are a crack up! You've given me something to chuckle about this morning! Your hunka hasn't come to the realization that you have a new project for him waiting in the wings!
ReplyDelete"No good deed goes unpunished...."
Monday morning hugzzz,
Carolynn
I know exactly what you mean. How lucky you are to have all that space for planting and a hunk of burning love to help you out!
