THESE Are Compliments?

You know,
Sometimes Someone Says
Something
to you that
SOUNDS NICE..
and then...
there is that
follow up
ZINGER.

Here-quote/unquote-
are the latest in
my life.
Lulu:
( said sweetly)
Nana-You have a
LOT of energy for your age.
Thanks, Lulu!
Are you HYPER because
you drink so much
Starbucks?

Ria:
(soft little whispery voice)
I like your hair, Nana.
Thanks, Ria.
It looks like the hair on
one of our dolls.
Really? Where's the doll?
My Mom threw it out
because its hair was
so messed up.
SweetCheeks:
(matter of factly
lightly pinching my forearm)
I must tell you that she
has a weight obsession
and has been watching me
lose weight.
You're not so fat, Nana.
Thanks, SweetCheeks.
-pause-
Did you see the 800  pound
man on Dr. Phil?
He was this much bigger
than you are.
okay-seriously?
I am thinking of moving
and leaving
NO FOWARDING ADDRESS!
and-what the heck are you
doing watching Dr. Phil?

  8. LOL! I think they just want to make sure you don't get a big head from their compliments, Diana! : ) I used to laugh when people would say to me, "You look nice today". I always said thank you, but then wondered, do I look like crap every other day then?

  9. My son once me if I slept on hay as a child. Didn't they do that in the 1600's. :0

  10. I'm sure they mean well. You can tell by the smiles on their little faces that they love you! And loving you is the biggest best compliment of all.

  13. This made me smile because Jack gives me those back handed compliments too...poor kid has no clue he is really insulting me on a daily basis. The other day he told me I had a hair on my face...the day before he told me to get one of those topsie something tops that when you bend over your rear is not sticking out, I can go on and on.

  22. When you cut back on the Starbucks to cure your hyperactivity, you'll have extra cash for hair conditioner. They'll be proud of steering the old girl in the right direction. lol ~ Maureen

  24. Oh Diana ~ I laughed so hard, well you know where I ran off to. I had the same discussion with my grandchildren over dinner when I was there last about, "Grandma, you ARE SO smart!" 'Well, thanks you sweetie, but even I still learn something new each day.' "Yeah, my mom says you don't know everything either like when ..." OK - we change the subject because I really love my daughter in law, and didn't want to go there! he he he!

Kids - don't we love them!
    Gentle hugs,
    Donna

  30. Children tell it like it is, don't they? That why we love them so much. You're doing a great job with your grandkids, and that's why they love YOU so much. The picture of the doll hair is too funny. Happy weekend!

  33. As you always seem to do for me, you made me laugh out loud. Isn't it just grand what our grandchildren say to us. What was that show with Art Linkletter that always had kids making wise remarks? Maybe you could hire out your grandchildren and do a show like that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ha, the grands can do or say anything and its so sweet. Hubby on the otherhand would have gotten decked!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow! It's a good thing they're cute, or they'd be spanked. :)
(I used to tell my kids that all the time.)

  36. I find it to be true....children get away with murder because they are so adorable as they stick it to ya...this was a wonderful post. I have some very special granddaughters that say whatever comes to mind.
    Love this, Mary

  38. lolol! They're out to get you, Diana! lolol! My mom insists on watching Dr. Phil every day. Drives me batty when I'm visiting her and she drops everything to watch him...and hasn't a clue about what's being discussed. Agh!!!! lololol!

  39. SO funny, Diana! I can so identify with those kind of grandkid comments lol!

    ReplyDelete
  40. What a cute post ... We love our grand kids no matter what they say ":o)

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL- maybe I don't need grandkids after all...Oh, my gosh. Brutally honest to the core.
I remember, being nice about and thinking I was really doing something great, offered my grandma my training bras when I was done with them...yeah, I did that. She was always giving me things all the time and the poor woman had no boobs at all. It was the summer between 4th and 5th grades. Yep, I learned alot that summer.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh my gosh, these are hilarious! I taught 4th and 5th grade up until a month ago and those kids were the same way. They were confused about my age (48), the skin on my arms, the texture of my hair, my clothing...all of it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kids are hilarious. My daughter over-heard me talking about summer office hours and she asked me-- "Mom, do YOU have to go to summer awful hours??"

    ReplyDelete
  44. Your posts always make my day! This is so cute, ya gotta love the way kids say it straight!

  45. I can identify going back with my Grandchildren. Out of Babes mouths. The second remark from my Grandson is true remrk but the first remark from the first child. Hmmmm

My Granddaughter was like little over two . I wear glasses. So I put them on my bedside table. She wakes up early. I look up at her. She looks at me with such a horrified look. Takes my glasses. Hands them to me. I take them. She says. Grandma I dont yike you put your glasses on.

Then Grandson is standing talking with me. He is about four . He tells me to open my mouth. Can you believe this. Then he said. How come your bottom tooth is falling out. I do have a tooth that does prutrude out. They say Babes dont notice or say things. Wrong. They notice a hair on your chin.

So one has to take everything they say with a grain of salt or you will think they think we are the most uglyest duckling. I enjoyed your blog and read from the rest of the gals comments on thee subject. Laughing. Look at this. You have started something here Diana.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh. My. Gosh. I am crying from laughing so much at the girls' comments. They are all funny but the hair one is my favorite. It reminds me of when my little girl left her dearly loved but ratty-haired favorite doll at a friend's house. I called the mother to say I was coming back over to get it and she said "Oh, I thought that was trash and threw it away". Good-bye favorite doll.

  47. You'd have to return quickly or those girls would be hiring a Private Eye. I kinds think your hero would too!
