I Scream-er- Ice Cream

The other day
I mentioned some things
I love about summer.
You know the other
thing I love about
summer?
Ice Cream

Well, I don't eat it
but my whole family
loves it.

Is there anything better
than homemade
ice cream?

First I mixed up
Orange Crush
ice cream.
Tastes like a
Dreamscicle.
6 cans of ORANGE Crush Soda
2 cans Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 heaping cup sugar
Put 2 cans of Eagle Brand Condensed Milk to a big bowl.
Stir in the sugar.
Slowly pour in one can of Orange Crush.
Combine the first can of soda with condensed milk and sugar.
Continue adding 5 more cans of Orange Crush.
Add the mix to ice cream freezer.
Crank up the ice cream maker.
Mix until the ice cream is firm.
Let sit several minutes to "ripen".
Freezes well.-Makes 3 qaurts.

I dug out the old
ice cream maker,
cranked her up.
Here is where the
I SCREAM
comes into play.
She made a few turns
and groaned and moaned.
We "helped" her run
until her motor quit.
Thankfully, the ice cream
was almost done.
Bye-Bye old girl!
At least we got this out
of you before you died.
I went to Sam's Club
and found a new friend.
Hello Baby!
You sure are a pretty thang!
Aroma (don't you love the name)
 ran perfectly and
we were delighted with
this-
We really like the custard
rather than ice cream.
Ohhhh...This is sooo good!
It's too bad that
no one in this family likes
ice cream!
Oh-wait-maybe
THIS ONE does!
However,
this one
 would rather have
a cupcake
at the local trough buffet.
If you don't have an
ice cream maker, or have
never made your own,
you are missing one of
life's special little joys.
Yes. You. Are.

  1. Now you post this recipe...geez. It sounds so good. Well, I did cheat last night and DH and I split a hot fudge sundae at the pool.
My ice cream maker died years ago and never got another one.
We all love ice cream. Yes we do. But I can't do it anymore.
Nope- but I can cheat a bit every blue moon.

  2. I so agree, we bought a new electric one last year, worth every penny!!! Our old hand crank one finally gave out on us so we went modern for a change. We all love homemade icecream

  3. Diana, I have never had homemade ice cream....but I absolutely love ice cream. I try to cut back, it's not easy. I do not know how you can pass it by when you are making it. :):) xo, Susie

  4. Do you make ice cream all the time? I've never invested in an ice cream maker... maybe my kids would really like ot. Is it really messy? Not that I can't and don't handle daily messes, I'm just wondering if this one is one too many for me. Yesterday, our daughter painted the flatscreen TV.

  5. OH, I remember my parents making homemade ice cream for us (well, they did use us for child labor in making us take turns turning the crank) in the summer! My last electric ice cream maker "died" too and I didn't replace it but I might now after your great post reminded me of how delicious and fun it is to make at home. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

  16. This would NOT be a good thing for me to own. Going to the "trough" place would NOT be a good place for me to go either. This is NOT a good post for me to read.
    Have a nice day.

  19. Yesterday, I stood with my sister in Kohls right in front of the ice cream machines. I was so close to buying one after wanting one for so many years, but my sister talked me out of it. Of course, you would have to have this post today with that delicious looking homemade ice cream just to tease me. lol

  20. You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! I had to chuckle when you mentioned the trough, no the buffet because we call our local one "the feeding trough" LOL.

  21. What better treat than homemade ice cream! We had the store bought variety, though, when our grandchildren were visiting last week. We even took a "field trip" to a superior regional dairy not too far from here. Trying their ice cream was definitely a "given.":)

  22. We are ice cream crazy at our house. The grandchildren love to come here and make milkshakes and Mr. Bird Nest used to eat an ice cream sundae every night but I finally put a stop to that. I started getting him sugar free Fudgesicles to eat instead. What a meanie I am.

  23. Sounds fun. We eat frozen treats year round down here in the tropics. Our latest obsession is the self-serve yogurt places. There are 5 in my little city alone! They say they are low fat, low calorie, etc but I think that they lie. The bowls they give you are family sized so you put more in than you need. They have a zillion delicious self-serve toppings and then you pay by the ounce.

Needless to say, my boys loooove it!
