When I uttered those
words to
MyHero
he kind of groaned a bit
but then looked
WILLING
until he saw the
object of
MY DESIRE.
I made him junk pick
this baby.
He hated it.
Yes.He.Did.
You have to know
that MyHero doesn't
like rusty..or old.
Anyway,
I had a plan.
A plan that would please
us both.
First we set it down by
the back steps.
AND
I start disassembling
and take off the burner grates.
LOOK what color is
INSIDE.
Cobalt blue in perfect condition.
LOVE IT!
Then I started working
MyMagic.
MyMagic
involves
SPRAY PAINT.
I spray painted
an old skillet
and an old
cast iron teapot
Both came from the old farm
I grew up on.
I know a lot of you like
the old crusty look
but I think this will stop
them from rusting away.
This old coal hod was
found in Grampa AA's
chicken hatchery warehouse
and I have carted it around
for about 30 years.
Spray painting is done
and I am
starting to reassemble here.
The rest of the stove
got a good scrubbing
with a rust remover.
Don't you LOVE this old
oven door?
I'll bet Mrs. Stewart
never imagined that her
old gas stove
would be dressed for
Summer.
Don't you just
LOVE IT?
After helping me move
the stove
MyHero was so tired
that he took a nap!
He said I just
WEAR HIM OUT!
Seriously?
Wait till he sees the
NEXT PROJECT
I have in mind for him.
Oh-Yeah!
Burn-Baby-Burn
Oh, Diana, I love it. Doesn't look old and rusty anymore. Just fabulous. I hope you are doing well. I am trying to catch up with everyone now that I am really recovering from that old surgery.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
Diana, I can't believe that beautiful stove. I love it!!!! I like the "potted" plants also.:) You do keep busy . xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it, Diana! Lots of elbow grease but beautiful finished project!
ReplyDeleteOH YES! Totally love it, and I can just imagine his thoughts, not another piece of junk, when he saw it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming stove! And filling it with some of your family treasures gives it all a whole new life! How absolutely perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour husband and mine must be related. We ask them to do something they disagree with, and we get eye rolls ... but they do it anyway. What a lovely man! (and a great way to display summer flowers.)
ReplyDeleteI love it. How cute holding your potted plants. Oh, how they groan. You better quit wearing him out.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect...what a great junk pick... :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend...xo
Lu
I'll take some geraniums with my fern please! Love it! One of the cutest planting areas I've seen. The fern in the coal thingie is perfect!
ReplyDeleteOOoh Diana!... I just love that!!! You make over the bestest stuff!... Jack does not like old and rusty or chippy either and you should see his eyes roll at some of the stuff I drag home!... isn't it funny though how they usually love the end results? Your stove is just fabulous!... and lots of memories attached to all of your treasures too... I want to come visit and drink coffee with you and just admire everything!!!... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteI tried to leave a comment, but don't know if it went through????
ReplyDeleteI love your stove, Diana! It's beautiful! You did a great job of cleaning it up and using it as a display piece. If we can keep wonderful old pieces out of the trash, and use them at our homes, I think that's awesome!
Good job!!!!
xxxooo
oh my gosh thats so cute, great job!!Lovely to have the memory keepers from you family as well,
ReplyDeleteI love it, Diana! Very whimsical to use the pots and things on it to hold plants. I'll pet you could even make this into a potting bench or to hold drinks or something when you entertain.
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous! Your hero probably has to admit that himself!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful transformation. I am very familiar with the moaning groaning eye rolling ways of our favorite men. But then they love the results! I think Martha would love to see this Stewart piece! Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a great makeover! It looks so amazing now and the plants look just perfect in it!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Janet
Oh I LOVE it!!!! Awesome makeover for such a great find!
ReplyDeleteI love this. I am sure he thought you had lost it. Love the plants in it. You are so creative. Thanks for praying for Jacob.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it, diana! what a great find!
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful! But yes those are sooooo heavy! There was a sale down the street and my neighbor got one in pefect shape for $5. The entire neighborhood had to help carry it home!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool, Diana (ok, I meant to say "hot", haha!). I am surprised that you didn't paint pink polka dots on it so it would match your fun bike! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love it, Diana!! At the beginning I was intrigued on how were you going to use it! It looks beautiful without the rust and holding the plants!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely repurposing of that old stove! Any secrets you have with keeping "personal rust" at bay will be welcome. I believe that must be what is wrong with my knees.:) Just a little rusty on the inside.:)
ReplyDeletexo Nellie
This is absolutely brilliant! How adorable ... I bow to your vision, that you could see the beautiful potential in that rusty raggedly old stove.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. Tell hubby he is darn lucky you aren't one of those wives whose hobby is buying $5000 Hermes handbags and stashing them in special closets.
Are you?
Have a great weekend... this is inspiring!
Cass
Dear, dear, sweet, wicked Diana! How you make me laugh. You are so very creative. Everything turned out just perfect. Your poor, poor MyHero! But, I'm sure you'll make it up to him.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! That is absolutely wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteI love that old stove and the way you put it to good use! The potted plants are just beautiful on it! My hero has a cold, hate when he gets one because he acts like a little boy...need I say more?
ReplyDeleteHope your having a wonderful weekend!
Rondell♥
Girl, you just amaze me! I love old stoves but it wouldn't fit our current home(which is a shame) or even our yard. I love what you did with it; I have a friend who has an antique stove that she wants to sell but her hubby won't let her. They are moving into a Victorian style home that it would be perfect for.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your next project!
Can I please come play?
Hugs, Noreen
Yes, I just love it and your ideas of spray painting some old rusty cookware - devine. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou are magic with a spray can and a vintage find! Your family keepsakes, filled with flowers, are the "sweetness" simmering on that amazing stove!

That is so COOL!! I love how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteYou outdid yourself on this one! I'm always attracted to those old stoves. Now, I know what to do if I come across one! Pinning. ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!, NanaD!! I think I just might have to shop in the garage (for some interesting yard art) then hit the nursery for some Summertime flowers!
ReplyDeleteMan between this gorgeous stove and the polka dot bike and finding out you live by the water... I'm moving in, don't you have an extra room you could rent to me! LOVE it! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Your vintage stove is darling and I love it with plants displayed on it. Cute, cute cute!
ReplyDeletexo,
Danielle
wow! Yes, I do love it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your stove! I have always wanted one of those since I was in my twenties (many moons ago) and visited a girlfriend who's mother was an antique dealer. She had one in her bedroom as an end table! Great photos, thanks! You were smart to buy it and make hubby help you drag it home, good work!
ReplyDeleteI love your stove with all the pretty plants but most of all I love the things that came from your family farm that you have used. I know. I'm just a sentimental old fool.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! It looks so good with all the plants and the teapot! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteDiana, this is absolutely awesome! I luv, luv it... adding the arrangements was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDianna I'm in love with every inch of that stove. It looks so pretty with the flowers planted in old cookware.I'm sure your husband will love it.
ReplyDeleteCute cute cute, Diana! You're so darned clever, girl! :) I think you should prop YourSleepingHero up next to it to complete the vignette! lolol!
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
What a great idea you had for this old stove. It's wonderful. I bet it was very heavy though. Love the plants on it.

What a great idea! I see old stoves in shops, but I would never think of using it outside. Looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYour magic and hard work has paid off, this is really special. I do believe in making old new again, and this is a perfect example.
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs, Mary
Way to repurpose!:)
ReplyDeleteWow, Diana, what a find!! These guys just don't see the same beauty we do, do they? My Sweetie is the same as your Hero!
ReplyDeleteYour special find is gorgeous, Diana! Top to bottom, side to side gorgeous!
Blessings,
Donna
You know I love it girl! My old stove in the garden is my favorite yard art. Hubby and sons had to bring it up from our Highland home and it was one heavy load. No wonder your Mr. was all tuckered out.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Oh my word, that is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a working one like this for our cottage... no such luck, yet...either they want a FORTUNE or non-working...
BUT I love, love what you did with it...
Totally can not believe someone threw it out... nicely, nicely done!
I absolutely LOVE it!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I have something else to add to my wish list!
I love it also. Thumbs up!!
ReplyDeleteYou are killin' me this is so cute! I just love how you have given this old stove a second life and I forgive you for painting over the rust too;)
ReplyDeleteOH I love this !!

Oh Diana, I do love it! It looks so classy all dressed up with your pretty plants for decor.
ReplyDeleteOh Miss Diana, I love it! That turned out to be perfect, your plants look like they are loving their new home!
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this post? What a wonderful piece and that was worth whatever it took to get hubby to help you with that. It is just wonderful.
