You know how people
are always showing
off their perfect
gardens here in
Blogland?
Well, let me tell you,
honey,
That is NOT what you
are going to see here.
See this mess?
It is full of weeds...
and needs a good cleaning.
How it got to be this
green this time of year
is beyond me.
We are having early June
in April here.
This bed is in front of
the laundry room
and MyHero's office.
MyHero, by the way,
is NOT a yard guy.
He is NOT a weed-it guy.
He is a thinker.
A deep thinker.
Ahem, I wish he would think
about getting his butt
out there and doing
a little yard work.
MyHero, by the way,
is NOT a yard guy.
He is NOT a weed-it guy.
He is a thinker.
A deep thinker.
Anyway, the yard?
This area is a mess
This area is a mess
and it has to be moved
this year.
The plants in there form
a jungle by mid Summer.
Not pretty!
This little area has to
be moved, too.
It is too close to the
end of the walkway
and the snowplow guys
run right over it.
I left the weeds in
for your viewing pleasure.
And, in front of the porch,
is another area that needs
attention.
I am going to have to
bolster up the old wooden
wheelbarrow this year.
I did get the pillows on
the porch swing.
That fabric is from the
early 1980's.
I still love it.
I know. I know.
I did break down and buy
a new mat for the front door.
Don't ya love it?
AND
I got my Spring flag
hung out for those that
pass by.
My son walked in and
called me over to the front
door the other day.
Why?
What did he see?
Can you see it there?
It is a real bird in
a faux tree.
A Mourning Dove.
Isn't she sweet?
I'm thinking she got
just a tad confused
because just below the
place where she built
her nest I have
THIS SIGN..
See?
You think I am crazy?
You think CRAZY isn't catching?
I even have the poor birds
in our area confused!
By the way,
SweetCheeks
NEVER MISSES
an opportunity to tell
an opportunity to tell
me that I am her
Crazy Nana.
I think SHE thinks
that is a compliment.
I'll take it!
I'd rather be crazy
than boring!
Thanks for keeping it "real". This post is the perfect way to start my morning (smile). I totally love your new rug!!
ReplyDeletePS. With me out of commission to assist in yardwork, our flower beds are behind on a good raking and fresh mulch. There's always May!
Lol, I've avoided any real garden scenes because the fence panels need replacing. I often wonder what is just out of shot on some of the beautifully staged pictures that appear.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, crazy is way better than boring.
I'm not much of a get-on-my- hands-and-knees-and-pull- he- weeds gardener.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of an I'll-stand-and order-you-around-with-what-to-do while-I-supervise gardener. Luckily, my husband doesn't mind. (or at least he hasn't killed me yet! lol)
Gotta love a crazy Nana! You are talking to the wrong girl about beautiful gardens Diana. Not mine...I try, and work hard, but just do NOT have that green thumb that I so aspire to have.
ReplyDeleteI see some greatness in those areas. Like tulips and that very awesome wooden wheelbarrow and a ladder. I do understand how things just need to go sometimes it is a whole lot of work. The dove and the robin are my two favorite birds. They are so people friendly. That dove just knows a good neighbor when she sees one.
ReplyDeleteYou have a bird in your fake tree and I have some birds flying into a fern I have hanging by my front door. I have another hook for it away from the front door but with the few cold nights we had, I moved it under the overhang for protection. I've gotta move it ~ they are getting fern fronds all over my welcome mat!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I won't miss about our yard {front and back} at the old house, Diana, is the weeding and other maintenance. The HOA takes care of all that, yet I can plant annuals and small perennials if I want {and which I will be doing for some color}.
Crazy is better than boring and if Sweet Cheeks THINKS calling you crazy is a compliment than it is.... when it comes from her!
ReplyDeleteI think what she means is that you're fun and interesing. But why use two words when one will do?
I know exactly what you mean. We did finally get the front yard edged and mulched, but the back is a mess. Plus, the voles (not moles) killed my knock-out roses. So sad! Your porch is so pretty. Love the pillows and that swing. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you for the birthday wishes.
ReplyDeleteMy yard is loaded with weeds too and need LOTS of weeding and such.
I hope the dove is nesting and she will have her babies there!
Deb
oops..
ReplyDeleteLOVE your door rug...think I should have one! LOL!
deb
wow, lots going on here this morning, your flower beds look like real flower beds, we all have weeds, we all need to be real more often, love the mat and the sign andof course the dove, so sweet, will she nest there, they aren't high in the smarts department .
ReplyDeleteYou will never be boring, thats a given, EVER!
Love the pictures. I don't weed much anymore, so the blooms around here are dandelions and other 'weeds', for the most part.
ReplyDeleteCrazy Nana, now I like that name, better to be a bit crazy than evil.
I've been looking for a sring door mat for inside the front door without any luck. I do like yours alot.
ReplyDeleteMy yard has so many weeds already. We just look at it and shake our heads. It is so far beyond us that we don't know where to start. I think we have too many areas that allow weeds the weeds ti griw. So depressing. Also sticks everywhere and pine needles everywhere from all the storms. It is still so early and all this warm weather and rain have upted my stress level, hah.
Crazy is good, most of the time.
I love your new door mat and the photo of the bird is precious! We're both Dian a or e...and both blond! Need I say more about the crazy gene we have in common? heeheehee! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteI love your post! I used weeding as a form of therapy! There were days I was too weak to stand so I plopped a chair down in the middle of my plants and weeded from there. I love your pretty new mat! A darling post!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Olivia
Hey...I'll move in as soon as you say the word! Love it all:)
ReplyDeleteDon't even talk to me about yard work! LOL I am so tired of trying to keep up! Our yard is really big and those weeds are a nightmare for us! We have been fighting with this issue for a while now, pulling them and trying to get rid of them, but they just keep coming back! We tried everything and finally, we found this bag of granules at Lowe's and it worked. There is still one or two that try to grow back, but I am out there like the weed police!LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your pot and I will take crazy Nana any day!:) Wouldn't have it any other way!
I know what you mean about trying to motivate "someone" to help out in the yard and get some work done. Ha! I love your swing! That is so cute to see a large bird like that in your window as if he's in a tree too.
ReplyDeleteOur landscaping is practically non-existent. I think yours has lots of potential, but I know it takes lots of work too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI am laughing out loud. Just yesterday my husband said to me, we are so crazy we are making everything else crazy! I better check our birds?? they may need therapy cuz, we have gone totally NUTZ!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you are crazy I think you are wonderful. I love your take on life and how you approach it. I think the bird is smart, she knew she would be safe around your home and I am sure she caught wind of how wonderful you are. We all have weeds, especially this time of year. It seems like they appear over night, with the warm days and then the rain they just thrive. Our plants should do as well as the weeds and we would all have perfect yards. Love your sense of humor, xo Kathysue
ReplyDeleteYou, boring? Nevah, as Miss SweetCheeks would say! The nesting mourning dove is so sweet, how funny that she's in a faux tree! And did I hear you say that you are gonna volunteer to clean out my weedy flower beds? That's so nice of you, haha!!
ReplyDeleteGardener I am not. I do, however, enjoy my neighbors yards in back of me. We don't have fences so when someone comes to my place, they see beautiful gardens from my patio on two sides.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diana, for making me feel better about the weeds in my yard. I have no idea when I will have time to clean it up. sigh ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI just luv reading your posts and how you just keep it real...oh, thanks showing off your imperfect garden! Now I don't feel like I'm the only out there with weeds collecting everywhere. Actually, my yard is so neglected if I pull up the weeds there would be no lawn...
ReplyDeleteaww gee, thanks for showing your weeds.. as ya know we are landscaping and refluffing planting beds we already had. I pulled weeds everyday for over a week before plants could go in and new mulch down.. what a job it all is every year.. umm home much was that poured concrete estimate again? and do ya think green spray paint would work? rofl rofl
ReplyDeleteYou are SO funny. Honesty!!! I like it. I BLOVE YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteMy gardens look pretty much the same right now. It's too early to do much in my neck of the woods, so I don't feel guilty. It will get done in May as it always does.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to have a bird nest to watch, even if it is a crazy bird! LOL.
I love that last paragraph. My grandson likes to tell everyone he gets his craziness from me. It makes me soooo proud :)
ReplyDeleteI spent Sunday cleaning up my mess. UGH!!!
Hugs,
Laura
I'd help you. Really I would. But, I'm allergic to dirt. Yeah, that's it. Maybe the kids will be wanting to help you out. You could make a game of it.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that The Husband loves to work outside at the lake and you could eat off his garage floor, but he really hates any kind of work here in the city and I could really use his help with weeds and working on flower beds.
ReplyDeleteYour weeds really don't look all that bad. I have sections along my fence that look like the side of a neglected highway!
So...let the colder weather stick around longer so we don't have to roll up our sleeves too soon!
XO,
Jane
Oh, don't worry, I have tons of weeds too. My garden is far from perfect, but I think it is more interesting to see real gardens, not the ones in the magazines. You've got your work cut out for you. But I am sure it will be beautiful when you are done. I love your porch swing and your new doormat!
ReplyDeleteOh your garden is so pretty! It's full of it either, but I know it's hard to maintain a clean weed-free garden. Thank you pretty lady for your lovely and generous visit. I love it when you come. Enjoy your weekend.

You are nuts. Tell MyHero that he can think while using a hoe. I do it all the time. Oops, maybe men can't do that. Anyway, child labor might work for you. Make those octopus and mac and cheese and tell them no grub until they pull weeds. It builds character.
ReplyDeleteThat poor bird. Look what you did. I hope you know that bird therapy doesn't come cheep!
LOL
I love the sweet little bird. Keep us up about babies.
ReplyDeleteHow is Charlie doing?
Dear Diana: I know this comment is buried way down deep but I just had to tell you how much I enjoyed it. That poor confused bird!! Oh, well maybe the Father is a Gull..Happy Thursday..Judy
ReplyDeleteHi Diana,
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to visit you here. :)
Gardens still look ok to me. :)
And you sure got your work cut out for you. Needing to relocate things. I hope you will have some help.
Very pretty Welcome mat. And I love your flag.
Funny birdie. lol
Have a good night.
Take care, Janet W
Diana, I think a bit of crazy makes the world go round. I'd fit right in in your world! I love the little mixed up love dove. Guess she fell in love with your faux tree. My hubby is not a yard guy either. I got out early and got all but one area weeded. Then we went on our trip. That area has Larkspur starts coming up all over. I did not get to it and now there are tons of weeds mixed in. I am having problems with my right leg and can't get out there and weed. May force myself to try a little tomorrow. If not, hopefully the Larkspur will hide it. Good luck moving the plants.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Ok....do I have to come over there and fix that wheelbarrel for you....and then use it myself to get those gardens cleaned up, girlie...?? lolol! If you help, I promise I'll share some FatCat*HappyDog wine....! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs to you, you sweet crazy friend!
xoxo laurie

ReplyDeleteCarol
