When we rehabbed this
house they were
ready to
close up the
side of the steps.
when
I had an
AH-HA
moment.
The contractor,
Phil,
God Bless him,
had an
OH-NO
moment.
He had that
Oh-What- Does-
This- Crazy-Lady
Want-To-Do-Now
look in his eyes.
I pretended not to
notice.
Hey, Phil!
Yeah? (tenatively)
Let's put a couple of
little hinged doors
under the steps.
"Uh-You're kidding, right?"
Not that I ever kid anyone!
Nope! I am thinking
2 little hinged doors
for the fairies.
Phil, being Phil,
asked doubtfully..
"Fairies? You're kidding, right?"
Nope!
Not kidding!
Grumbling and mumbling...
which sounded a bit like
cuss words to me..
he created some
"hidey-holes".
And, guess what?
The FAIRIES
found them!
And, EVERYTIME the
kids pop by,
The Fairy Of The Month
has left them a little treat.
It could be a sucker..
or a a barrette..
or a pencil..
just
some little treat.
There are fairy bells
hanging outside to
alert the fairies they are
here.
The kids
ring the fairy bells
(which look a lot like
wind chimes)
and rush to the
hidey-holes
as soon as they
come through the door.
SOMEONE
likes to
"rearrange"
the offerings.
SOMEONE
likes to pick what
she likes best
and leave the rest
for others.
Here's a peek
at
SOMEONE...
Any fairies at YOUR house?
I wish I had hidey holes under my stairway. I want the fairies to visit too. This was a really cute & creative idea!
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh what a sweet idea. You are the best Nana,, this is a wonderful thing for your grand kids,, so lucky they are to have a nana like you!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your fairy hidey holes! Most cleaver and fascinating little places :)
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious that SC picks out what treat she likes best. You might have to cut out another hidey hole with a new baby coming!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! What clever little nooks for the fairies! I can just see Phil's face when you asked for them!
ReplyDeleteYou know I think this is such a neat thing, the kids love them I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI don't have Fairies but I do have my little ghost, who plays tricks on me if he isn't allowed out where he can see what's going on.
Put him in the closet, and you'll hear voices, and things disappear and reappear in odd places.
Cute! We have a little mouse house under our staiwell, but it's more of a toy closet now. It's filled with toys. It would be the safest place to go in the even of a tornado IF we actually fit in there. But, to fit in there, we'd have to remove the toys. And tornados don't allow you time to "clean house" before hitting, so I guess we'll have to head to the downstairs bathroom instead. It's a client bathroom, so it can't be cluttered.
ReplyDeleteThese Fairy holes are just wonderful, I hope the girls get years of pleasure checking them out :) oxo
ReplyDeleteOh girly...I love this! Fairy Holes...what a simply marvelous idea!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOU MUSE!

Oooh! I want a hidy hole! But I would want the fairies to leave me treats luck cupcakes and chocolates! Diana, you are the best grandma EVER! And I still am waiting for you to adopt me:)
ReplyDeleteNo Fairies, just Leprachauns.
ReplyDeleteBut perhaps if I had a special "hidey-hole" like you they might come to visit me. What a great idea!!
I don't have any yet but I soon will. What a great idea. You are the best Nana I know.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom used to have candy dishes at her house and sometimes she would leave different prizes in the jar for my kids!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memory today Diana!
