GIVING YOU THE BIRD(S)

 GOOD MORNING~

Rise and Shine!

Mama Bird has risen and is out

looking for baby food.

She started with three

ROBIN EGGS.

All 3 hatched but one baby

did not make it.

I found that baby in the driveway

about 100' from the nest.

I looked it up and found out that

mother birds will carry

a unresponsive baby away

from the nest so that

predators are not attracted by

the smell of something that has died.

I never knew that about birds.

Anyway,

Eggs- 1 day old - 1 week old.

Cute as cute can be!

I have been waiting to paint my porch

and the door until they have

GROWN & FLOWN.

I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful June week.

My 'boyfriend' and I will be hanging out.

He will be sleeping and I will be working.

Life is just not fair sometimes!

As you can see,

he likes to eat in bed and keeps

his bone(s) close at hand-er-paw.

  5. Seeing baby birds hatch is like watching a miracle unfold before our eyes. How wonderful. We used to have a robin that would make a next above the porch steps every year Mama bird was very protective and would make a lot of noise if we tried to walk on the steps. She thought of them as her territory. Hope you are enjoying the longer days and more sunshine there!

  7. Thanks for an interesting read. We just happen to have a nest on our front porch. cannot see in the nest but can tell from looking up we have 3 there.
Interesting about the ones that do not make it, never knew that.

  8. I did not know that about birds - it is sad, but it is smart at the same time. The photos were pretty though.

And you have a mighty sweet boyfriend there!

  9. Animals are so interesting to watch. I don't think we give them enough credit sometimes. Nothing happens by accident, they are very measured in their actions and I think that mama instinct to protect is very strong. Enjoy the week with your cute boyfriend!! xo

  10. Ohhh the babies are so sweet. I didn't know about mama removing a dead one, but it does make sense. Dear Scruffy keeping his valuables close by!! Rufus does the same with his toys:-)

  13. aahh, those precious baby birds. Sorry to hear that one didn't make it. You know how much I love the birds (woodpeckers not so much, one is pecking at my house right now). Your post was delightful to me, Diana. And those blue Robin eggs are something else!

    Have a pleasant week, Diana.

  15. We had a Robin outside of my neighbors window on the second floor, I was amazed that how fast the 4 eggs hatched. She had 4 and then we watched the mom and dad robins feed them together. That was cute. After two weeks they were taught to fly and away they all went. I heard that Robins can have more than one set of eggs per season. So if you do not want her back you might want to removed the nest so you can paint out there. Have a good week. Hugs. Kris

  16. Awe, little birdies so cute. We have watched two sets of bird's nest lately with all the feeding to those little ones. Oh girl...PAINT! Marty and I neither like to paint and it's always a dreaded job for us. Wish my sister that LOVES painting was closer to you. I'd tell her to come paint it for you! LOL! Happy June. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  18. What great photos of the nest and babies! It must be very close and within easy reach. Is it on your porch? the nests in front of our house never last very long, due to all the cats and larger birds. I didThot know this fact about Robins, how cool!

  20. I never knew that a momma bird would dispose of her unresponsive baby to protect the nest. How tragic and how interesting. Let us know when you get to paint!! xo

  21. Heartbreaking about the baby. Moving his/her body is a brilliant tactic ... who'd have guessed!

  22. For years I had robins building nests near my front door. I always enjoyed watching the progress. One year a cat got the nest and they haven't been back to build another nest.

  23. Aw, baby birds! How cute! I once had birds nest in my front porch light fixture! I couldn't turn the light on until the babies flew away and I could clean the nest!
Your "boy friend" is cute, too! :D

  24. I didn't know birds did that either. Makes good sense.

  25. Such sweet baby birds. I am sorry about the one who didn't make it, but what a smart thing to do to take it away from the nest. God gave the birds so much intelligence about these things. Amazing!! Love the cute doggy phot too. So sweet and angelic. LOL. Happy Summer.

  29. I love watching baby birds hatch. A few years ago, we had a robins nest in my hanging flower basket on the porch. Last year, we had a cardinal nest in the bushes right outside the kitchen window. I never knew that the mama bird would carry a dead baby away from the nest either.

  30. Love the bird nest and pictures. Last year we watch two doves build their nest on our window seal and layed 3 eggs, and we had a front row seat to see them hatch and momma feed them...then they were big enough to fly away!!
So fun to watch God's little birds.

  31. Shame about the baby bird, but it can be enjoyable to watch the birds.

    All the best Jan

  32. It's fun to watch the birds as they progress, but not so fun when the momma dive bombs your head if she thinks you are too close to her nest! lol.
We have Wrens raising another clutch in the bird house on the deck this year. For little birds, they sure can sing LOUD!!
I didn't know about birds taking failing infants away from the nest.
    Have a wonderful June!!

  36. It is not a bad life to be a bird lover. We have our purple martins, that are our favorite. Love to hear them gurgling and talking in the mornings. I thinkyour pup has a life of luxury to be able to sneak a nap and a snack at the same time!
