For all of you that have asked-
WHAT IS CALIFORNIA SHED STYLE?
It might be called something different
in a different area.
Here, it is a late 1960's/1970's style
that has a rustic exterior with a
more modern interior.
It has a slanted roof in the back
and soaring ceilings inside,
usually with a loft (open or semi open).
I am attaching pictures
front and back so you can
see what I am talking about.
People either love the style
or hate it.
LOL- Guess I am an
OLD HIPPY
at heart
(although I never lived like a hippy-
too much of a chicken-lol).
because
I like the style.
I have lived in traditional,
coastal, Florida style,
colonial, two story,
ranch style & modern-
but nothing like this.
I will keep posting pictures
as we go along.
All changes will be interior
because we have to abide by
condo rules to not change
"the look" from the exterior.
Front-We have a lofted area-
each unit to the side is a single story.
Our main living area,
including 2 bedrooms/2 baths,
is on the main floor.
The big windows upstairs overlook
the river one street over,
and that is where my sewing/craft area
will be---whoo hoooo---
finally a place of my own.
I have never had a dedicated space
like this before.
There were always kids, etc.,
to think about and contend with.
FRONT VIEW~
Back-
Units are staggered so we will
not see our side-by-side neighbors
unless we chose to do so.
Upper windows are in the loft area
where there is 3rd bedroom/bath
in case we need live-in care at some point.
Hopefully not-but life
throws things at us sometimes
that we don't expect.
So...here ya go---
CA Shed Style Back View
There you have it, kids.
Be back with more soon!
I know y'all are dying to see the inside.
Did I say DYING?
Remember...there is a graveyard
right behind us...
and I have a shovel if needed!
I like the design and thank you for telling us what is a California Shed.Enjoy planning your move and making it yours.
ReplyDeleteI am sooo happy for you! And this is really very nice...I've not heard of this style before...thanks for the lesson! I am looking forward to seeing how you make this lovely place your new home! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you posted this because I didn't know what the style looked like. I love it and am so excited for you to have your own sewing craft room!

Thanks for sharing and explaining about your house. I look forward to seeing and hearing more about it all.
ReplyDeleteNo garage where we are gong but a loft that I love ... all one floor otherwise. So look forward to themove
ReplyDeleteI really love the front and back entertaining areas...so private!
ReplyDeleteSounds like perfection! We turned our 2 story family home, into live-down-stairs. And it is perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see inside tooo! Before's and After's please.
Pushy?
Me?
Nevahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
LOL

ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm very happy for you!!.. and I'm not dying to see the inside, but I'd sure LIKE to. Wishing you much happiness in your new home!
I love the front and the back and love the back room that has been glass doors.. with a view of the graveyard yet. I would like that because I don't like neighbors in my back yard. sounds perfect...
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place! Love that you have a garage and a screened in porch too! And your own loft/designated space! you will LOVE that! And I love that you don't have to worry about anyone "living" behind you! LOL. Looks great. I could almost see myself there, but like you, I've always said "never a condo"...but the fact that no one is above you helps a lot, and that entries and porches/courtyard, etc., are staggered to give you privacy, helps a lot! I know it will be fabulous once you get it the way you want it! Thank you for sharing this with us. We will be cheering you on all the way!
ReplyDeleteIt's just lovely!!!! I'm so excited for you.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It looks like it’s spacious inside- lot’s of volume! This will be a completely new lifestyle for you but I know you are resilient enough to embrace it! Can’t wait to see the interior changes. You will take before and afters right???
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteI love this style. You really landed a good one. I know after you get your changes made this is going to be such a pretty and cozy home.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Very pretty, Diana! I was too chicken to be a hippie too but this is cool, man, cool! Very nice mix of materials and I love that roof line. Y'all did good!
ReplyDeleteI was a hippy for a few years with my hubby, if you count working full time as a librarian while embracing hippy values. Your plans for your home sound great, and now you will have "a room of one's own".
ReplyDeleteLove the style. It's great that you have a 2 car garage too!
ReplyDeleteI was a hippy in the 60's and 70's...lol.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this new home of yours, Diana! and I don't even have to see the inside!
So perfect for me....I mean you!
Love you.
Debbie

I love it. I old but I will always be a hippy...there is some freedom to that. Especially now when we are all dealing with health issues of a loved one. I love a loft....wish I had one. Can't wait to see what you will do with it...Isn't life an adventure? God moves and directs in such wonderful and sometime interesting ways.
ReplyDeleteLove, hugs and prayers coming your way....can't wait for the next episode.
I love this design. Have seen these around all my life and wanted one!! Looking forward to more photos!
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea you were moving, I guess I missed that post! Congrats - looks like a great place, can't wait to see the inside!
ReplyDeleteDiana, I like it. Looks like a screened in porch. My dream. I love the fact that you can be outside with neighbors right there. Love neighbors but also love privacy. Take care. Blessings to you . Love, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI like it because I like contemporary. My favorite house we lived in was a mid-century modern house during the nineties.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Can’t wait to see the inside!! So happy for you and John!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Nancy
I have never seen this type of house. Can't wait to see the inside.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how things are called different names from place to place. When you said California Shed, I kind of pictured something like this, a little more Brady Bunch perhaps, but when I was little that was my dream home...open floor plan, big ceilings and a bit rustic. Can't wait to see the inside now. xo
ReplyDeleteIf the zombies come out, just run.
ReplyDeleteI really like the looks of this. Looking forward to seeing the inside.
ReplyDeleteDiana -I love it! The back looks almost like a screened in porch. The front is semi private, which I also like. Your craft-y room will be just wonderful for you. The alternate to a "she shed"...only nicer ...ha! Can’t wait to see the inside! Especially, the before and after! I know it will be amazing!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Gert
It's fabulous! It reminds me of condos up by Mark's old homestead in MI.
ReplyDeleteGreat style. I am so looking forward to seeing the changes. Privacy is great. Much love, Linda
ReplyDeleteYour SHE-Shed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for you, Diana! I can't wait to see how you make this lovely place your own. I love the gray wood siding exterior.
ReplyDeleteI love the design and have seen it before but I never knew it had a name!
ReplyDeleteI like the design I did one for my sister once. BUT most of all I love the double+ garage. It does look just a little larger than the normal double. Good stuff. Yep I like it, BUT put the shovel up for a couple years. LOL
ReplyDeleteGood on y'all'
Sherry & jack in Deltona, FL
I love it, Diana, and can't wait to see the inside and what you will do to make it yours! I am so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteso that is what that style is called! I'm so excited for you. And I can't wait to see the inside. Oh what fun you'll have making it your own!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Congratulations! Can't wait to see more. I'm happy you will have your own crafting/sewing space.
ReplyDeleteI like it. Very nice. I think it is petty neat that you have a graveyard right outside.
ReplyDeleteHi, Diana! I had never heard of "California Shed Style" but find it very attractive from your pictures. Will be following to see what you do with the inside. This sounds like a very nice development you're moving into in the spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for explaining! i don't think I have seen this style, but I really like it! It would be so easy to get around in, and is big and airy!! I lived thru the hippy era too, and really wanted to be! I am looking forward to lots more in the future!
ReplyDeleteNot familiar with this style, but it looks great. I live in a co-op building and appreciate there are many issues that I don't have to manage myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pictures! It looks great! How exciting to have your own crafts room!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you posted photos as I had not heard of that style before and lived in S. CA up until 1998! Most homes I knew were stucco. My parents lived in the same home for 33 years so we grew up in one home. I hope you enjoy remodeling your new place! Look forward to seeing it all evolve.
ReplyDeleteQuite frankly I never heard of it so maybe I'm to young or live under a rock. Let's go with too young that sounds good.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have private outdoor area so that's great. Looking forward to seeing more.
Cindy
Well, I love it! I can't wait to see the inside:) Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteThere are some condos in our area thar are also done in that style. It must have been popular in its day. Nice you don't heave to worry about any out door repairs. That could get very expensive. One of my sons just bought a house and is looking at some roof repairs. Not something he is looking forward to. Thankfully your updates are limited to the inside.
ReplyDeleteI have seen developments like this but never knew what style they were. It sounds perfect for you, and I do like the outside. We have to think ahead and although it is something that we don’t like to dwell on, preparing for tomorrow when we won’t be as strong or healthy as now, is very wise.
ReplyDeleteI liked your photos, looks nice and looks like they covered the privacy issue, we spent a lot of time in Ft. Myers, went thru a Hurricane there a couple times, we walked down main street in Ft. Myers In water over our knees, n water up to our knees, lot of damage. We did find some awesome shells and I walked the beach throwing Huge Star Fish back out into the surf as people were collecting them in 5 gallon pails ! Can't wait to see the Inside of your house !
ReplyDeleteI live in California, and I've never heard of California Shed Style haha. I like the fact that they are not too close to each other. I have been looking around myself, Diana, and it's not easy, and when we do find something in California, they are snapped up quickly. I noticed your last post of your back yard with the deer. What a glorious sight that would be to see this precious animal often. These are a bit different than our condos here in California, but I like this color and the brick. I'm so glad you found something that suits you. Now, I can't tell, are you on the top or bottom floor?
ReplyDelete~Sheri
It looks wonderful Diana. I know you will be excited to move in and make it your own. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteHow nice! I like the offset units and a two car garage. Our current house is the first connected to the house garage I've had....of course we could use more than a two car with 4 drivers but I have MY spot, color me happy ☺
ReplyDeleteExciting.. and yes, I can not wait to see inside!
ReplyDeleteI like the rustic look of these sheds. Reminds me of an old mountain home.
ReplyDeleteLisa
Funny....I live in CA, never heard of that....CA shed style.....but you know? It does look like houses from here!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, congrats! Exciting...and a room of your own...to sew or craft....you must be so excited....do keep us posted....
Nancy

ReplyDeleteI love the photo in your last post of the backyard scene,
Have a blessed day.
Sue
Moving is fun but I'm sure it was stressful! I love the look of the shed style, actually I lived in a condo back in the late 1990s that had the same type of style.
ReplyDeleteLove your new place, I'm sure that you'll love it more when you're moved in and get things where you wish them to be. :)
ReplyDeleteYou were in Spam..being nosey probably?? I love the style of your condo..My sister used to live in an area that had everything from cabins, apts, townhouses, condos and single family homes..some into the millions..Their townhouses looked very much like you condo..Nice!! Hope all is going well and that the shovel is in retirement..LOL

ReplyDeleteOh Diana, looks like a great place to live. I know you will do it all over and make it your own. And yes, I am dying to see the inside! They don't call me Nosy Rosy for nothing.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Diana, I love it! Very excited for y'all! I forgot..but when do you get to move in? I bet you are more than ready! Cant wait to see pictures of the inside too. ReplyDeleteI really like that style, Diana. How much fun you are going to have and are having right now. Sounds like a wonderful floor plan and I love the outside look..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy
