It was so much fun reading
all the comment about hair & products
from the 60s & 70s.
I thought it might be fun to
visit the
FOODS SOME OF US MIGHT REMEMBER.
Let's start with breakfast.
Any of you ever eat these?
OR
Notice how they proudly displayed the word
SUGAR?
LOL-That's a definite NO NO in today's cereal aisle.
After a nice bowl of cereal swimming in
WHOLE MILK
did you wash it down with
OR
one of these?
Maybe mom was downing a quick cup of this-
You went off to school and came home.
Did you have this for an after school snack?
Or maybe this?
CHUCKLES!!!!
Did your mom make this for dinner?
SPAM THE ALMOST HAM
It might have been served with side of this:
Or maybe you were from a modern family
and ate these?
And what did you have for dessert?
After a nice dinner did you sit around and watch
Did you snack on these while watching
the old black and white TV shows?
Or maybe you had a box of
CRACKER JACK
back when they had
REAL PRIZES!
Maybe you washed those down with this...
While mom, being ever weight conscious,
poured this over a glass of ice...
And..sometimes a little milk got heated up
and you drank a cup of this before
going off to bed in a sugar coma.
Feel free to share your own wonderful
food memories!
I will tell you one little 'story'
that I am NOT proud of----
When MAGIC CHARMS came out
I WAS CHARMED!
I ate so many of them at one sitting
that I was sick for 2 days...
yes-indeedy---
To this day I cannot even think about
eating them
without feeling slightly nauseous.
So, if that is on your morning breakfast menu,
please take me off the guest list.
Because
TRUST ME-
It will not be pretty if I show up!
Have a great day-
fill it with
GOOD MEMORIES
not like the one I have of
LUCKY CHARMS!
I used to LOVE Tang. I would put in ten times as many spoons as recommended and it would be VERY thick. You could almost eat/drink it with a spoon!
ReplyDeleteI remember “BB Bat” Suckers, “Jiffy Pop” popcorn, and “Jello Pudding”. I remember Mom was on a diet and ate “Figurine” bars. I would sneak and grab one but got caught everytime. Lucky Charms is still my favorite Cereal but of course, We had to settle for the off brand. “Lucky stars”.
ReplyDeleteLisa
My Mom made the best jello salads in the world!
ReplyDeleteI remember these all and wish I could still stir Nestle's quick into a glass of milk! heehee! Do you remember BIF? It was Spam....except made with beef! EEEEE! Very scary! Enjoy your rainbow day my friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI drank so much TAB I think it ran in my veins. I wonder why it lost popularity?! I remember when I had my first sip of Sanka! ugh. I've eaten many of those Swanson TV dinners. I loved them. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, dear Diana!
ReplyDeleteOh girl, you "hit the nail on the head" with these foods. My family ate many of these, my Mama's favorite drink was Tab. I loved tidbits, wonder if they are still around:) I enjoyed seeing all of these foods from my childhood. Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother introduced me to Tang loved it back then. Wonder how many of those items have been 'redone' and are on the shelf here. The only time I ever ate Lucky Charms was on a trip to my sister in law's home, when we arrived, I was hungry, and she had nothing fixed, I ended up washing her dishes, and found a box on the cabinet. Told her I wanted to try them, I ate them dry, they were horrible, but remember, I was hungry.
ReplyDeleteQuik? My younger brother loved it, and called it "gookee". :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
We grew up on the Tang and have the TV dinners when my parents would go out and we would have a babysitter. I remember the Quick and the Sanka too. Hope you have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteNever cared much for cereal, as soon as I was old enough I started having tea and toast for breakfast. Now it's coffee and toast.
ReplyDeleteTrix and Sugar Smacks for me. I still miss Planters Cheese Balls!
ReplyDeleteOh my mercy. So much of this carries me back in time! This has been fun. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI remember most of these, but my eyes didn’t light up until I saw the Fizzies. I loved those things! Now what was that “fake” chocolate drink my mother was always trying to foist on me...Ovaltine! That’s the one.
ReplyDeleteAhh ~ the memories!! Tang was a big deal, because it was what the astronauts drank! No Spam, but definitely the TV dinners... Fish sticks were also a big deal in our house; I can't abide them now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "remembers"
Oh yeah....I remember those items. I wasn't much of a cereal fan. I remember Cherrio's mostly. TANG I had a lot of that...to this day I think about it and wish I could have a glass. Oh and CHUCKLES I loved them, always ate the red ones first and never ate the black ones, didn't like the taste!!! Cracker Jacks and cheese balls...yes please!!! Lots of TV dinners too. Did you know Spam is a very popular dish in Hawaii even today they still eat Spam. Ah yes the good old days....and we are still alive even with all that sugar, maybe more diabetic, but alive with memories. Chocolate stuff I could not have, was allergic to chocolate as a child...boo!!!
ReplyDeleteDiana, yes, I loved cracker jacks and not just for the prizes. I ate so many one time that I had the same experience that you had with Lucky Charms! And that was just a few weeks ago. You don't have to be a kid to have fun!!! Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteCheese Tid Bits and Cracker Jack, two of my favorite snacks, although around our house a snack was a carrot, an apple or a piece of raw potato, LOL Come on over and put your name in the hat for my Blogaversay Give-A-Way :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom loved tang, my two grands love Lucky Charms. My MIL used to make that three layer jello. I remember all of those - but I don't think I ate that many.
ReplyDeleteCome over for breakfast here you will get steel cut oaks with milk - no sugar!
Love, sandie
Definitely my era! Chuckles were my favorite candy and I still buy them sometimes! (does anyone else think the red tastes like soap now?) But after a childhood laughing incident where strawberry quik came out my nose...I was an adult before I tried it again. Fizzies were so fun!
ReplyDeleteI actually make that 70's Russian Spiced Tea with Tang still to this day! ;P
ReplyDeleteI remember when Tab came out in the 60s. My friend and I went fishing and there was a store next to the spot we were fishing. They had Tab in a bottle so I bought one to try it. Didn't even finish it and never bought it again. Don't know what I was thinking back then, probably not thinking. :) The stuff was horrible. Ranks right up there with Moxie which is a New England thing.
ReplyDeleteWE had to eat Cheerios but some of the other foods we did get to eat! Fun to look back.
ReplyDeleteBoy great old memories...fizzies were something we'd get in "care Packages" at camp. Tang was considered good for you and so were most of the others....and TV dinners were something we got for special occasions! LOL so much fun....

A trip down memory lane with you, Diana. I loved Tid Bits and Cheese balls! I ate so many cheese balls when I was little I had to do what happened to you with the Lucky Charms! I've heard of most of these, but some I'm not familiar with. I do remember Tab--it doesn't work! ♥
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving all your post on old advertisement ...:)
ReplyDelete:-) TANG !!!! Guess what, Sam's Club use to sell it a few years ago and I purchased some for my boys. They loved it.
ReplyDeleteI must have been a deprived child because I didn't eat any of that stuff! We had lamb chops a lot and spaghetti every Thursday and Sunday. Cookies and treats were given very sparingly. I am thankful today not to have a lot of bad eating habits!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites were Cocoa Wheat and Hi C Orange from a can for breakfast. We drank Kool- aid any time. I let my son have all these when he was growing up in the 80s. I didn't know about healthy eating yet so gave him what I had as a child! My mom and I used to love eating Chung King Chow Main from a can. It was our treat when my dad worked evening shift.
ReplyDeleteI never cared much for cereal, but I did eat Sugar Crisp...I think it's called. Still not a big cereal eater aside from oatmeal once in a while. I remember Tang very well and loved it! My mom baked a lot of cookies, brownies, etc. and that was usually our snack when we got home from school. She wasn't too big on having candy or salty snacks around. That all changed when I got married...love my salty snacks! But have cut most of my snacking out due to the new diabetes diagnosis. Sez me who is now scarfing down a piece of sugar-free chocolate pudding pie. Shhh...don't tell! I needed a midnight snack and that's all I could find!
ReplyDeleteI got sick of pixie sticks (basically powedered sugar of different flavors) after downing many large ones from Sams club when I was in 9th grade. After that last one, never again
ReplyDeleteI remember Lucky Charms but we did not have often as was expensive for 4 kids. We drank Tang, Nestles Quik, and occasionally had Fizzies. Yoo Hoo was only had at one neighbors house as costly for our home. Jello was practically a staple in our home. Mom made sandwiches from sliced and fried Spam. We loved Cracker Jacks and devoured when given them!
ReplyDeleteTrix, Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, Nestles Quik! Those were our breakfast fare. I remember eating Spam in the 50's. Gross. I think my dad took fried spam sandwiches for lunch, along with coffee, Fritos and a fried pie. Bless his heart.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing all these fun foods from the past...many are still available! My mom wouldn't let us get those sugary cereals, oh no, it was Rice Krispies, Cheerios and Kellogg's Corn Flakes for us. Do you remember OK's?? They were something like Cheerios but O's & K's...lol! Spam was a staple in our pantry and I still like it today although I never buy it...loved it fried but I remember eating it right out of the can for a cold sandwich...even had to wipe the congealed juices off it before I put it on my bread! And speaking of congealed, my mom made the Jello congealed salads of all kinds. So many great memories surrounding these foods...I could go on and on...and you sometimes even can find "Leave it to Beaver" on our list of DVR'd shows! As Bob Hope sang, "thanks for the memories!"
ReplyDeletewe don't have all of the products you showed here in Canada but some of them. We sure did get our dose of chemicals back then didn't we! Bad experience with those Lucky Charms,, poor you!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha the best diet I ever went on consisted of plain popcorn and TAB. I grew up on 'convenience' foods. Hamburger Helper . . . now I know that's still out there today but when THAT came out, my mom bought and made every single version as soon as it came out. They all tasted the same -- awful lol.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a hoot to revisit things from the past. Tang was the big thing and we used it to make "friendship tea". Sugar Pops was my cereal of choice. Oy, I've eaten my share of Spam in the past. I remember making the Jello123 dessert (?). Does anyone remember the flavor straws? There was some sort of unknown (chemical) flavor insert in it. I was not a milk drinker as a child and my mother bought the strawberry flavor hoping it would increase my milk consumption. It tasted good going down was but I was a very sick little girl. Come to find out, I have a lactose intolerance, which would explain the aversion to milk. Blech! There is a store in the little town of Speedway that carries old-time candy and sodas. Diana, I hope you are feeling better and taking care of yourself. xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh Di, I just bought a can of Spam yesterday even though I have an organic no-cured ham from Whole Foods in my fridge! Ham is no substitute for Spam. Unlike you with the Lucky Charms, I can never eat too much Spam. It cost too much these days for one reason! I'm going to put a Spam dish recipe on my blog this week in honor of your post here.
ReplyDeleteI remember hot cereal..no tang..gross...Spam too..Yuk..TV dinners , Cheez balls , cracker jacks and Jello were around at times..My husband used to drink Yahoo..I was a coke and Tasty cake addict. Root beer floats!! Hope you are feeling better
ReplyDeleteNestles Quick and Spam. Yes. I think Mom bought Tang once, we didn't like it. We had to go to my grandmother's to get Lucky Charms. We usually had Sugar Pops or Cocoa Puffs. Most of what we had was the cheap no brand stuff.
ReplyDeleteNo Sanka, only Maxwell House! No cereal but plain Corn Flakes. Maybe a Coke once in awhile--no Tab. Mama believed in sugar! And except for sweet potatoes and Irish potatoes, (pronounced "Arsh" in Virginia!), cooked every way possible, venison, and fish, and biscuits ---oh, and cabbage cooked down to it lost all color--I think I've blocked out everything else!! Oh, except for my grandma's banana pudding she brought by every week when she visited, God bless her.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for coming by to follow me, and I'm a follower here. I don't post much---but I hope to get some inspiration here and there!
Lol! Love the "technicolor yawn"! I remember "Cap'n Crunch" was my brother's favorite cereal. I liked Bran Flakes and Shredded Wheat (hey, pour half a cup of sugar in it and it's all good!". I never could be convinced to eat yucky charms! Remember those little chicken pot pies? We loved those! I remember when there were no fast food places and the only pizza came in a box by Chef Boyardee. It was fun to make but not real tasty. We drank Grape Nehi and some Kool Aid competitor, the name of which escapes me. The flavors had names like Goofy Grape. We bought candy cigarettes and bubblegum cigars my mom bought stuff with Green Stamps (I got the coolest metal doll house that way). I drank TAB when we were allowed to have soda, but I really liked Fresca! Remember pudding that you had to cook and it got that skin on top that all the kids wanted to eat? That was the coolest! Thanks for these great memories! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYes, we ate far too many of those items!
ReplyDeleteI Loved chuckles so much....and I'd forgotten about them until today. Tang, Tab, Sanka. I remember all of them. I loved sugar so much as a kid....and now, it hurts my teeth just looking at a candy bar!
