Grab your coffee, tea or Coke
this is a ramble!
I did a post about this
early on--
when I first started blogging...
and....because I am going to
talk about a special
Christmas tradition later this week..
I wanted to acquaint some of my
readers with this first.
You have never seen a show
quite like a show
performed by
the one
the only
SWEETCHEEKS!
This happened several years ago..
and is as funny today
as it was then.
SweetCheeks is a performer of
extra-ordinary talent. It's a lot like
pay-per-view except she is
a lot more expensive.
Her best performances were usually
preceded by the words..
"Hey, guys..wanna see sumthin'?
(as if we had a choice)
She got the stunning new outfit you
see above for Christmas when she was three.
It seemed to fit her personality
which runs from flamboyant
to downright outrageous.
And, although she liked to pretend
she was a princess..
she was much better as her
own character.
Take a seat, ladies and gentlemen,
the show is about to begin.
This entailed lining up on the couch
in our assigned seats.
We always had to leave a space
(or two) for those "friends"
that we can't see.
(We knew they were there because
SweetCheeks told them where
to sit and they got the primo seats).
After we had plunked ourselves down,
the ticket collector took our stubs.
She looked suspiciously like the actor,
and director, and performer
of the show
we were about to see.
If it was an especially exciting show
we had to fasten our seat belts.
Don't ask because I don't know..
but I think "we" sometimes
had SHOWS and
AMUSEMENT PARK RIDES
a bit mixed up.
Makes no difference.
Here comes the announcement...
(told in present tense)
WADIES & GUNTULMANS..
WEWCUM TO THU SHOOW!
Now I gonna dance and sing
ouprah.
(that would be opera for those
in the know)
Oh Boy! I can't wait.
I am already laughing while
MyHero has that
deer-in-the-headlights-look
the one that means
OH NO-NOT AGAIN.
Buck up Buddy! This will
be over before you know it.
By the time the first few lines
of Jowly Old St. Nickkolus float out
I am suffused with laughter.
At this point
the show
STOPS!
THISSS PLAYH ISSS NOTT FUNNY!
NOW- Stay in yoah seats..
we are gonna haffta starht all
ovearh again!
This statement is accompanied by
a dramatic sigh and
an arm swiped across the brow.
The seat belts must be
refastened and tickets collected
once again.
The show resumes.
I look over at MyHero who
whispers out of the side of his mouth,
without moving his lips..
I can't wait for the intermission.
And, once again,
the strains of
JOWLY OLD ST. NICKOLUS
fills the room.
Every time I look back on that time
I am reminded of that precious little girl--
full of imagination and one that knew
she was adored.
She is a big girl now and
adored just as much today
as she was then...
but-OH---how I miss that little girl sometimes.
All grown up---
and as you can see---
still performing!
what a girl,, one in a million!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special memory! Kids are so wonderful although very testing at times. I have things like these shows to look forward to with my little grand doll.
ReplyDeleteI've sat thru many a performance like that.....sure do miss them!
ReplyDeleteLoved that, Diana! I seem to recall making relatives sit through a Hallowe'en production I put on (it was a one-woman show). Does she still sing? (opera, or otherwise?) -Jenn
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I miss my little ones too! I enjoy them now, but miss those days! Have a great day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteWhat a rip off that the imaginary friends got the best seats! Whatever happened to nepotism?
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will see Sweetcheeks on TV or in a movie someday! She has the prettiest smile.
ReplyDeleteDiana, Thanks , now I am all teary eyed. I have watched her grow and I miss her being little. I have been a bit blue since Thanksgiving came and went so fast. I think it's the speed at which the children are growing. Your grands, Linda's, mine, and everyone else's. I always love seeing children use their imagination . My two oldest granddaughters use to give plays. Emma has given puppet shows. Your S.C. makes me think of Emma since they are both long legged giants. LOL. Blessings to all of you, xoxo, love, Susie
ReplyDeleteStill beautiful. I miss her stories. ❤️
ReplyDeleteDarling......love it.
ReplyDeleteOur time with little ones has just begun, but ours are more like...."Grammy, watch!" and then he hops on a trike or some vehicle and zooms about...(mom allows riding in the house for toddlers at this point...now that she has a little little one 2 weeks old)
Love it....

Nothing is sweeter than going to a performance with your children or grandchildren performing. These special times make the best memories :)
ReplyDeleteAwe how sweet of a memory is that! Thank you for sharing... she's a beautiful young lady! These are certainly part of the memories we treasure! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Jill
Love these memories. My oldest would be the game show host for Family Feud and it was funny to see adults of many generations doing what this child told us to do. Good times!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing the story. I am new here, so I loved that you chose to share the story again. Such a beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteNonie

Oh how I love "FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT" This is the best kind....I'm glad our family had Friday night Show and Tell. Many funny stories came from those evenings.
ReplyDeleteShe is adorable then and now.
Oh, she is just adorable! We do miss those little baby and toddler days, don't we? Though we love them just the same, even more, we will always miss those sweet memories. And, one day we will miss the times we are having with them now. I suppose it is just how life is. God bless you, sweet friend...'tis sweet to remember, and thank you for sharing your memories with us.
ReplyDeleteI do hope filming was done and photos taken! Such wonderful and precious memories to pass along!! And now immortalized on the internet! Sounds like a fun time was enjoyed by all.
ReplyDeleteSo funny and sweet. Loved this memory shared Diana. Sweet Cheeks is so cute and now growing up just beautiful. Love that you have these great memories of when she was little.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
So cute! I bet the show was a riot! :)
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely precious! Such a wonderful memory, Diana. She's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember back when my daughter was little, and then when her daughter came along; we spent a lot of time hearing 'wait, I'm gonna start over'. :)
Thanks for sharing this! :)
xoxo
brings cute to new levels ;)
ReplyDeleteI was giggling all the way through your post Diana, you just tell a story so well, I could just imagine you and My Hero trying your best to keep a straight face! Isn't it amazing how you can look back and see the gifts and talents in children expressed at a very young age! Your Sweet Cheeks is definitely a performer, and a darling one at that, however, I suspect none of her performances on stage will ever match the memory you shared here in this post :)
ReplyDeleteWell I remember those stories and she is even more beautiful now, wow, love that picture! With her spunk and clever wit, that young lady is going places!
ReplyDeleteCute story. I have a 3 year old nephew and a 6year old neice. It never fails at the family gatherings. The shows must go on.
ReplyDeleteShe going places!
Lisa
What a precious memory! She will be a huge star someday with that smile and charisma, and your Hero can be her agent!!
ReplyDeleteStories about the little days gone by are always the best. Thanks for the laugh. She is beautiful girl.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning friend. This is so precious. I can just see it all in my mind. She has always been quite the entertainer! She is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI can remember Karen's kids always wanted to play "Cooker Man" and take our orders.....over and over and over!
Oh how adorable they are. I have memories of my daughter in ballet and those cute outfits!
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, What a sweet story from the past. I so enjoyed this look back and the precious memory SC gave with her performances. I can see it all play out in my mind. So special to hold on to these beautiful family times. They grow up so fast. Somehow I see a lot more special memories in the making!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this wonderful post. xo
Sweet memory...
ReplyDeleteSeems she is directly descended from you. ,-)
She has grown so!
But then, they all do.

Love this time of year when we remember fun times. Thank you for taking us back with you.
ReplyDeleteWe will put up our tree on Sunday, when we do re telling of the how or who we received an ornament from will be one of my favorite parts of the day.
And the twinkle lights.
xx oo
Carla
What a precious story! I think that girl may be related to her grandmother!!
ReplyDeleteOh my word, the years pass so quickly. I'll bet you can understand that when my youngest son--now a junior in college--texted me yesterday and asked if he could get the Lego Advent calendar, I said, "YES" in a heartbeat!
Oh my goodness I kind of can't believe how big she is. I'm a little distressed to learn that it doesn't go any slower when you're the grandparent!
ReplyDeleteI grabbed my wine. I hope you don't mind. She was the subject of your blog many times during those early years and kept us quite entertained.she has turned into a lovely young lady but I'm sure she hasn't lost that spirit that seems to run in your family. Thanks for the memories
ReplyDeleteI agree with Richella...she is most definitely her nana's Grand daughter! What an adorable story and priceless memory! Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteOh Diana, thank you for painting such an adorable story of your Sweet Cheeks! I could just see everyone sitting and watching the show, and I loved those empty seats that were left for loved ones. Sweet Cheeks is a beautiful girl and I'm glad that she's still performing!
ReplyDeleteThat SC, she is a beautiful little girl inside and out. I can't believe how she has grown up. She sure is a star.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Mary
