I DID THE WHOLE30 Food Plan for 30 DAYS & A HEALTHY APPLE "DESSERT"

On October 1st,
MyHero and I embarked on a new food plan.
Whole30!
You can read all about it by clicking the link HERE.

You CAN eat things like THIS!

I lost 14 pounds in 30 days!
THAT is the BONUS!
My Hero lost 8 pounds
BUT.
he had already been "dieting"
before starting this program.

To me-this was a no-brainer.
It has been touted as reducing inflammation
and being a healthy way of eating.

I have GAINED much more than I lost!

I have inflammatory arthritis and
I ALWAYS ache-
some days are worse than others.
After following this food plan
I have almost NO ACHES!
I would not have believed that was possible,
but it has been/is!

I also lost ALL CRAVINGS for
SUGAR, FLOUR & DAIRY.
That, too, is unbelievable to me.

This is not for everyone
and I am not one of  those people
that say-
THIS is what you SHOULD do.
You are a smart person
and can make up your own mind.

Personally---We have decided to stay on the
WHOLE30  another 30 days!

One of the "treats" that got me through
is this one:
I have one of those apple slicers/corers.
I slice & core the apple,
drop it in a small custard dish,
drop a few pecans in the center,
top with a teaspoon of clarified butter,
sprinkle cinnamon (or apple pie spice) on it
and then microwave it for about one minute.
It is WONDERFUL!

This one has a sprinkle of Truvia (Stevia) on it, too.
Let me just say--
If I can do this---anyone can!
Trust me!

What SAVED me is the fact that I could have all the
BLACK COFFEE
I wanted....and that is how I drink it!
Have a great day-
I'll be over serving the ol' boys at the VA!

  1. That is excellent! What a triumph, losing weight and sticking to something once you put your mind to it. It was probably helpful that both you and your husband were doing this. And what a bonus, fewer aches and pains, something we could all use!-Jenn

  2. Diana, That sounds wonderful. No pain is truly worth the try. How many of those little apple desserts can you have?? I think it helped that both you and your husband were doing this together. I will have to look this up, because I am not sure this is the diet my daughter was doing. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie

  3. I did this diet too! I lost 9 pounds in 30 days! It was easy and I was not ever hungry. Cravings lasted about a week. I used coconut milk in my coffee!

  4. Congratulations on making it through the month! I am so glad it is working for you. Like you said, it is not for everyone. I looked at it and realized it was not for me. It is hard to diet this time of year. Good for you doing it though.

  5. Congrats Diana, I knew you would like it. I haven't lost as much weight but have gained more lean muscle which the program is designed to do as well. I'm wearing the clothes I couldn't wear last winter!!!! New wardrobe:) Where it hasn't helped my RA as much as I would like, I feel wonderful! Keep up the good work and we'll have to share some receipes

  6. Good for you Diana and hooray for shooing away those aches! Nothing like eating healthy, that's for sure. As you know, it's changed my life in the last year. I don't do the Whole30, but it's basically the same. Good stuff! Did you notice how naturally sweet things taste when you cut out the sugar? That is amazing to me. I do the apple thing as well, but I bake the apple in a teaspoon or two of water, topped with some Stevia and cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. Even Mr. Bluebird likes it. Congrats again! Jane

  9. I'm so doggone proud of you! It feels great to be lighter doesn't it? Happy November sweet lady!

  10. Congratulations, Diana! I've always believed that you can treat or even cure all sorts of ailments with food. Lots of fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds.....etc. It's amazing how different you feel, when you cut out the junk. Too much sugar makes me sick feeling. So, I get this way of eating. You go girl for taking charge!

  11. I have a strong intuition that this plan might not let me dip my apple slices into caramel dip.....

  12. Thank you for sharing this Diana. I gained 8 pounds since I got back from the Yukon
and have wanted to find a diet that will help me lose it. My MIL is already baking Christmas cookies.
But that's okay as I'm burnt out on them now, so perfect time for me to start!

  13. Both of you are to be congratulated!!! You did a wonderful 30 day thing. And are continuing. Hooray for you.

Oh yes, I too have read of all aches and pains, disappearing, with such healthy and a bit more, living. Tammy J. is an example of this.

I have to be Gluten Free. No choice there. :-) But can do some dairy, with Dairy Relief-type-stuff.

How about the clarified butter???? Isn't that dairy? We do use butter. Being as it is a natural product. Yeah, don't point out, that it isn't totally natural, if it comes in a bin. !!!!

Anyway, I am so proud of you!!!!!!! Know you are not a preacher. But do everyone a favor, and tell us about it.

    Gentle hugs,
    Tessa

  14. Losing 14 pounds caught my attention, and I thought about doing it and then decided I would probably fail. But I am going to steal your apple recipe for the evenings. Yum...

  15. I will keep this in mind for after the first of the year. I have no will power in the months of November and December!
I am so pleased to hear about your relief from inflammatory arthritis. Sugar and gluten are huge culprits when it comes to inflammation. The Whole 30 appears to "nix" both. I drink my coffee black too, Sweet D. Have since age 17.
Thanks for sharing this. I have to drop at least 40 lbs.

  24. I've been eating paleo, though not this strictly, since March and have felt so so good. I've always had trouble sleeping and that has been the most wonderful improvement. My fat ass rolled off the wagon about a month ago and this is just the inspiration I need to waddle back on. So happy for you that you're feeling less pain.

  25. That's great to hear! I've heard good things about this diet. I crave sugar and would have to say that is my only vice. I don't smoke and rarely drink. So, this would be a challenging diet for me. However, maybe one day I will give it a try. I suffer from inflammatory problems too and to lose some weight wouldn't be a bad thing either! So glad that you found it helpful for you. I wonder if some people stay on this diet for life. I would be afraid that everything that I "gained" would be gone as soon as I went off it.

  34. We've been mainly sugar and flour free for about 4 months and no more aches and pains for us either. Di, I know this sounds crazy, but try swallowing about 2 or 3 Tablespoons of coconut oil a day. Yes, it's hard. But quickly you will see a big improvement. My husband can just swallow a whole tablespoon full, but I have to put about a half teaspoon in my mouth and let it melt, then swallow it. You will see a vast improvement in your digestion. promise.

  46. That apple looks deliciousl Apples and nuts are such a great combination. I've been enjoying one cut up apple topped with yogurt (plain, full fat) and a hand full of chopped nuts for breakfast. So yummy, no sugar, and it keeps me satisfied until lunch.
Congratulations on losing 14 pounds! That's something to shout about.

Why, you ask? Because I am a cheese addict. lol I. Just. Can't. Give. Up. My. Cheese. Plain and simple. Which brings me back to you. You are awesome!!! :)

  48. Wow, 14 pounds in 30 days?! Good for you! I don't think I could go without cream in my coffee or chocolate to nibble on but I want some of that No Aches stuff! I have mild Fibromyalgia and some things like dairy really aggravate it, so I have cut down on that. So, I assume this is not a lifestyle eating plan.....you said you were doing it another 30 days....is there a limit as to how long you can be on it?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Congrats on sticking with it! I could give up sweets, no problem. Wheat and dairy is another story.

  50. Diana,
It's never easy to fully commit to a healthy diet alternative, I'm impressed. I changed my entire view on food in 1984 and only eat pure it's been a challenge at times but a lifesaver.

  51. How wonderful, 14 lbs. in 30 days. That is quite an accomplishment. I do not like to diet around the holidays. I just let the stress take over and five lbs. come off - but then comes back in January.

  52. Congratulations on the weight loss and especially the "not hurting as much"...I will check this diet out.

  53. Congrats on a successful life change concerning food. I've got to share this again with hubby and see if he is interested-since he is always hurting. I gave up all sugar and processed foods several years ago and felt so good, plus lost some weight. I am still dealing with a health issue and realized before I go in next April for another blood test, I need to cut out all sugar and processed foods again. Well done Diana, so thankful you are feeling better.
    Hugs, Noreen

  56. Wow, congrats on not only surviving the 30 days, but for losing the weight, Diana! That's awesome! I would have a really hard time giving all that stuff up. Good for you for sticking with it!!

  57. i am so happy for you. living with constant pain is one of the worst things in the world.
i've been grain free and sugar free for about a year now.
but i'm also a vegetarian. so the paleo part of this plan is not for me personally.
however... even just staying on the no grain no sugar... my pain is gone. it's really amazing!
so i'm thinking those two things are mosty the major culprits for sure.
and i use NO artificial anything. all that stuff is dangerous. at least to me it is.
i say... you go girl!!! i'm so proud of you! XOXO♥

  58. That is just an amazing report!! 14 pounds, wow! I need to read up on the whole 30 plan. I just loved the apple snack you shared too! Good luck continuing with the whole 30, it sounds amazing!!!

  59. How wonderful for both of you!! I'm learning more and more about inflammation, etc. A sweet friend of mine now has Fibromyalgia due to an RX she was given. :/ This is a huge reason I dislike taking any medication! Anyway, she's doing a similar eating plan as well as Turmeric smoothies. She has times that she can't walk, etc. and a smoothie or two will bring her out of it. Just amazing to me! She cannot tolerate heat at all (lives in the deep South) so is in the process of moving to IL. She can tolerate cold much easier.

Thanks for sharing about your experience! Glad to know your cravings went away ~ that's the hard part for me.

  60. I can't believe I missed so many of your posts...and they have all been fab! I was seriously considering this diet. Might just do it now...of course, with the holidays????

    ReplyDelete
  61. Diana, that is so exciting! Yes, the weight loss but even more that you feel so good. I've not heard of diet before but I'm in my third week of no sugar--except for the 2 bites I've promised myself of something homemade, which was the gingerbread I recently made--no dairy, no wheat, no eggs. Doing it to get my diabetes numbers down but the 8 lbs. I've lost are a plus.

However, I can't say that I feel good, in fact a feel weak as a kitten. I even added in an egg a week and I plan on adding back in beef once a week as I've also stuck to chicken and fish during this time. I sure hope I feel better soon because I miss dairy more than anything.

I'll have to check your plan out!
