Finish It Up Friday- Five Random Offerings

Thank you all for sticking with me
as I go through my files and try to
clear them up with my
Finish It Up Friday posts.

Living in Green Bay, Wisconsin
means that a lot of life revolves
around the bay itself.
We are lucky enough to live on the bay-
just a couple of miles out of port
so we enjoy all the water has to offer.
Everyone loves being on the water-
although I am content BESIDE it and not on it.
I don't have very good luck with boats.
I am known as
The Boat Jinx.
Seriously.

Well, here is ONE boat I won't be jinxing because
this baby won't be going anywhere soon.
That being said- I love the way it looks here
on the rocks by the shore.
I love the mornings here.
The sun rises on the front of my house
so that the front rooms are bright and warm
But the magic is on the back side of the house.
I can see the sun's progress as it comes up
over top of the house
and hits the shore across the bay from us.
It is peaceful and lovely.
This time of year the last of the big ships
come in and go out of  port
before the channel shuts down for winter.
This is one of last few ships of the year.
See this "thing"?
Can you guess what it is?
It's a floating duck blind.
There is a boat underneath that and several
decoys flocked around it.
I always feel awful when I hear the guns go off
and know they have shot some of  the ducks.

Know what else is big in our area
that is also connected to the water?
FRIDAY NIGHT FISH FRIES.
They are held at every tavern, supper club
and restaurant.
This is the offering from
Bourbon Street in Green Bay
Most places serve the same menu.
Deep fried perch or haddock, coleslaw, fries,
a slice of onion and buttered rye bread
with tartar sauce on the side.

You can also buy fish
for your home aquarium, too, you know.
However,
you won't get any FISH at WALMART today.
Nosirreebob!
Guess there is
NO DINNER tonight!

You all have a great Friday and don't take
your fishing pole to Walmart today...just sayin.........

  4. Diana girl ! I got here before the crowd piled in ! yeah !!!
You are very lucky to have such amazing views ... Kingston is on the edge of Lake Ontario , but we are not near any area for a water view .. so John and I keep saying "as soon as that lottery kicks in we will see about THAT!!" haha
I feel horrible about the hunting thing ... I know that deer herds should be culled to keep them healthy and alive .. but ducks and geese that don't have a chance ... well none of them have a chance with the machinery used to kill them .. sorry, morbid eh ?
Fridays .. funny day of the week ... fish fries seem perfect though eh ? haha
I am a boat jinx too .. never go out in my husband's boat ...I panic on the water ... I can swim ... but I just have this weird thing about it all.
In any case .. hope you have a great Friday too girl ! ... we almost had snow flurries for heaven sake ! hahaha or ho ho ho ?? LOL
    Joy : )

  5. So - is that sign supposed to read, No fishes today? And is that another language? And the bay looks beautiful. I'd have to get out there on the water, though. I hope those hunters wouldn't confuse me for one of those ducks.

  6. I would love to have a view like that, Diana! My hubby and I go on Friday and sometimes Saturday night to eat fish, it's better when someone else cooks it.
    Have a great weekend,

  7. Wow, what a great view!I too live near the beach and I love it. While I don't have a water view, I am only about a block from the beach and I cannot escape my neighborhood without driving by the bay. I never take the view for granted.

  8. Oh... no fiches to dey at Walmart? What a shame. LOL! You live in a charming place. I wish I could see water from my house.

  9. That sign cracks me up!

Living near the water is pretty special...there's just something about that sparkle. :)

  10. The duck blind looks pretty neat! Ooh, that spelling is atrocious!

  11. Your present site, seems like a near perfect spot.

    Water to see, nearby.

The sun setting over said water.

    happy sigh...

  12. Mmmmm, where is that photo of full moon setting over the water?

How do I know you took this?

Because I read your comment, somewhere else in Pretty Blog Land.

  14. Your bay is beautiful and it's interesting to see the differences with my bay here - Mobile Bay. We would never allow hunting on the bay, which is interesting because it's big everywhere else here in Alabama. We do have a ducks around the bay, but mainly pelicans. We also don't have any rocks down here, just sand. My boys always were excited to go somewhere to see real rocks! And as for fish fries, they look about the same, but we use catfish and GRITS!

  15. Happy Friday! Fresh fish, YUM! Love it in Michigan too. Do you have snow predicted in your upcoming forecast? We do and I'm freaking out because we are so behind in yard work and raking. A busy weekend awaits. Can't wait to leave my big girl job. TGIF!

  16. Diana, I love the pictures of the bay. It is nice to live near the shore. You get some nice birds and water fowl. I heard gun shots just two days ago...in the woods across the road...Sounded like target practicing. Deer hunting is allowed there...You been down to the local Walmart again?? LOL Hope you have a wonderful weekend. xoxo,Susie

  17. That fish looks so yummy....gives me an idea of what to fix for supper! Your view of the bay is just gorgeous...there's not a drop of water within 1000 miles of me here in New Mexico....lol! Have a great week end...hugs...

  18. The views around your home are wonderful! The fish dinner looks very tasty. Here in the south, it would include hush puppies; I was surprised to see the rye bread!

  19. Happy Friday! What a beautiful view. My MIL is on Lake Huron and the views are gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lord have mercy! I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that last picture!

Gorgeous views you have Diana! You are lucky indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow..love your view! Summer or winter I'm sure it's pretty to live there. Darn...no fish at WalMart,....lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. You always crack me up with the pictures you find from Walmart! I would hate hearing the gunshots during duck hunting too. I'm not against hunting, but just wouldn't want to hear it happening. Love that pretty view you have.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You are too funny. Love your catch up day!! I guess I can cross off fish from my Walmart list!! LOL The view from your home is stunning.
    Wishing you a great weekend!!
    Hugs and Blessings

  24. Your views are amazing! The big ships going by would never get old for me. I LOVE that large container laying by the boat on the shore!!! How can you not snatch that up?! The colors on it are wonderful!
We have fish fries here every Friday, too. We don't get the sliced onion, though.
    Nice Walmart sign...lol.
Have a great weekend, dear friend.

  25. Diana your views are amazing, I've never been to Green Bay and hope one day to see the beauty that surrounds you in your home town. John and I still eat fish on Fridays, I guess it's from my early years as a Catholic with no meat on Fridays. Now you know I'll chuckle all day over today's Walmart photo!!!
    xoxo

  27. What a lovely place to live, so much activity and sure looks like good food! I don't eat deep fried food but I would break that habit if I could get some of that perch and fries...yum.

    ReplyDelete
  28. We are going to a place tonight for a fish fry..What a coincidence...You have a lovely scene to see every day..Looks cold today..choppy..

  29. Well, Walmart has done it again, haven't they? Ha! Love the pic of the sun rising! There's something very peaceful about watching the sun rise and set. I never thought about a channel shutting down for the winter, but I guess your winters ARE just a TAD cooler than ours. Lol! It's funny because this time of year, we're all getting our patio cushions back out because it's finally cool enough to enjoy being outside again. It's totally grilling season here too. No more sweating while you're standing there flipping burgers. Lol!

  30. You are so funny - what a no no at Walmart. LOL Your pictures are very lovely and living by the bay is great. I could sit and watch the bay all day, so relaxing.
    Have a great weekend.

  31. I would love living there in the summertime. Not so sure about the damp cold of winter. Yikes! But I do love the water and the ships. What a treat. And I guess if it's a fish fry, you know you're in Wisconsin. The next clue would be beer and brats. :-) Have a great weekend, Diana!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wonderful setting for your home, Diana! Waterfront property here in my town is quite desirable. I'd love a good fish fry, but I'll be sure not to count on Walmart.:-) xo Nellie

  33. It's lovely to bloom where you're planted. Your home environment is beautiful, even on days like "Not fiches to dey!"

  35. One of the best things of Wisconsin...Friday Night Fish!! :-)
I have only been to Green Bay once. A long time ago.
We hope to take the boys to Door County in 2015.
Beautiful photos today. Love your view!!

  36. You obviously live in a beautiful spot. I'm with you, I'd rather be near the water than on the water. I love walking on the beech, but not swimming in the ocean or lake. Sailing on the lake is a favorite, but not on the ocean. So give me a pretty water view, and I'm very, very happy.

  37. I agree, you live in a gorgeous area with breathtaking views!!

  38. how fun it must be to live on the sea...:)

  39. Being from Illinois and having lived in WI for about 45 years now, I had no idea that other parts of the country did NOT have a fish fry at every restaurant, church and bar on Friday night. I think we do fish almost every single Friday. Green Bay is lovely. My aunt and uncle lived in Sturgeon Bay for years. So very pretty!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh my gosh, that Walmart worker needs to worry about more than just not fiches. lol! That fish fry looks so delish! I remember having wonderful food when we visited Door County. Beautiful shots of the water.
    hugs,
    Jann

  41. I have the sun come up behind my house and down in font of it but I don't have that view! I was in town yesterday and the water was really choppy and splashing up high against the break wall. I prefer to watch boats too! I've never seen one of those duck blinds but I hear guns going off in the morning from a lake nearby. I always think "poor ducks"! Omg on that sign about the fish! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  42. Besides the fact that I think you have a little fetish with WalMart these days, whatever employee wrote that 'fich' note really needs an education!! I love your finish up Fridays - random let's us know more about a person :) Blessings for a Super Weekend! Cindy

  43. Oh boy, looks like they need to hand out dictionaries to all Walmart employees! What a beautiful view you have, Diana. It must be fun watching the boats go by. Except for that duck blind. I would feel sorry for those ducks, too!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. beautiful views.....and are you telling me the employees at the Walmart can't spell...they must have gone to elementary school in NYC where the granddaughter goes....they are teaching them (and I use the term "teach" loosely) "Interpretive" spelling....yes that's right...they are teaching 2nd graders to spell what the word sounds like....no rhyme or reason...just kids that will grow up and not know how to spell their own names...:)

  45. <3 Love the pic of the overturned boat <3 oh yeah and the rest too <3

    ReplyDelete
  46. I didn't realize your were so far north - brrrrrrrrrrr - but I bet you have a lot of great times on that lake and just looking at it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Beautiful Views!!! And that fish plate looks good. I'm hungry. Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  48. That plate of food nearly made me cry. I dream of a good plate of fish and chips. Haven't had a good one since our honeymoon in Victoria, Canada. Ten years ago! I think I'm due. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. How beautiful!
I noticed the sun on the tops of the trees out back this morning... it was lovely... it funny how even when we turn our back against the Son...you can still see him SHINING A LIGHT INTO OUR LIFE!
have a lovely weekend my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It must be wonderful to have the bay to stare at everyday. One of these days, I'll live someplace with a water view! That sign from Walmart is too much!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Oh, what a beautiful view of the water you have! Water has so many moods and I'll bet they change by the hour. Mmmmm - maybe like me :) I love that little weathered boat on the shore and those fantastic buckets! They all would make great planters! You have my mouth watering for fish and chips now (Boston slang) - but dang, I guess I won't be getting them at Walmart! Again...the Mr. and the dogs are giving me dirty looks for laughing so loud. :) xo Karen

  52. I grew up on a lake and do so miss the water. We were like fish all summer long, swimming several times a day sometimes! We water skied on it in summer and skated and snowmobiled on it in winter. And we "fiched" on it too! LOL! Have a lovely weekend Diana :)

    Blessings,
    Deborah

  53. I didn't realize you could see cargo ships from your house. That's so cool! My mom's dream as a young girl was to work on one of the ships plying the great lakes. Of course, that was simply impossible for a girl to do that kind of work in her day and age. I'm pretty sure I'd be out there sinking that duck blind if I lived there. I'd just blame it on you and your bad boat luck.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What a glorious place to live, except for that winter thing, of course, being my blood is Southern. I laughed out loud at the "fiches" sign.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Beautiful shots ...for a moment there I could feel the sun and almost inhale the scent of the water close by. And then there was that fishy smell, ha ha .

    ReplyDelete
  56. Diana, why is it that I didn't even know that you live around that beautiful lake? I am not very observant, obviously!! Beautiful pictures and beautiful descriptions. Looks like that WalMart is talking Raggae!..Happy Weekend..Judy
