If you read my blog daily you know
that we kept the girls for the weekend.
MyHero was on call so that meant
two cars for church and a different
church than we usually attend.
Our grandgirls are being raised Catholic
by their wonderful parents.
The church we attended on Sunday
was a non-denominational church.
On the way over,
SweetCheeks expounded on
LOVING GOD
and that if you love God and
have him in your heart
you will go to Heaven.
PLUS
YOU HAVE TO BE BAPTIZED.
When we got to church we discovered that
it was Baptismal Sunday.
If you were a believer and wanted to be
baptized you could be baptized there
in a tub set up on one side of the altar.
SweetCheeks had only ever seen
babies BAPTIZED in the Catholic Church.
The head is wet with Holy Water there.
She remembers seeing her cousin,
CharlesInCharge baptized.
SweetCheeks was quite impressed with the fact
that a GROWN PERSON would get in tub of water
like that in front of a church.
On the way home, the girls were discussing it.
SweetCheeks:: Nana, I never saw a real
BATHtism.
Lulu corrected her: It's a BAPTism, SweetCheeks,
NOT a BATHtism.
SweetCheeks: Lulu! It's a BATHtism,
Didn't you see the tub?
Lulu just rolled her eyes.
As for me?
Well, personally, I think it makes perfect sense.
I'll be here tomorrow with the

I think that makes perfect sense too. Very smart, sweetcheeks!
ReplyDeleteWhy not! Sounds about right doesn't it!
ReplyDeleteDiana, That is so cute. SC said it right .LOL My brother Charles and I were baptized on the same Sunday...oh about a hundred years ago. I always tell my brother after they baptized him there is still a dirt ring in the baptismal tub. :):) Hope you have a wonderful day, it's very cold here, but will be sunny..oh yea. xoxoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI agree with you...and her! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt does make perfect sense though, doesn't it? : )
ReplyDeleteMakes perfect sense to me too! Why do we as adults make everything so complicated? Kids see everything in a simple straight forward way. We could learn a thing or two from them!
ReplyDeleteHa! What a fun discussion. :-) Kids come up with the cutest things!
ReplyDeleteFrom the mouths of babes...
ReplyDeleteIt must warm your heart hearing your granddaughters talk about loving God and having him live in their heart. Sweet post, Diana, and thank you for your visit.

Oh that is just too precious! Of course it's BATHtism. That little SweetCheeks, love her!
ReplyDeleteIt's a BATHtism - that is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a picture of Phil baptizing people, in the river. But have never seen a full immersion Baptism myself.
ReplyDeleteTessa~
Out of the mouths of babes! Sweet Cheeks is very wise.

Smart girl! It does look like a BATHtism, doesn't it? My sisters and I used to baptize one another in our tub quite often. The "baptizer" would put one hand over the nose and mouth of the "baptizee" and proclaim, "I now baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." We were quite serious about it--but I guess we were really "bathtizing" one another, huh?! :)
ReplyDeletePrecious memories you're creating. You're my hero.
Too Cute!
ReplyDeleteWhat a smile that gave me today!
I look forward to those moments someday with grandchildren....
sweet...

So cute! Bet you never stop laughing with those girls around:)
ReplyDeleteshe comes up with the cutest things to say
ReplyDeleteI never knew that they had a tub for baptizing for adults. It makes me wonder why they baptize infants differently.
ReplyDeleteO adore the command of the language that children enjoy! It makes perfect sense.
ReplyDeleteSounds as if I am writing scripture here. Nay. Not so verily. I meant to say "I adore..."
DeleteI think it's nice that she's getting educated about the subject. What she's calling it sounds good to me! LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh the sweetest things come out of the mouths of babes .. She is the same age as my little loves who live
ReplyDeletefar, far away. For right now they are living in my heart and Skype.
Smiles, Dottie
SweetCheeks is a wise little girl...love the way she makes it real!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!!!!
Sweet Cheeks you are awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteXO Danielle
Sooo cute! I was baptized in a lake and my mom was horrified when I started swimming around and wouldn't get out of the water. The entire congregation got a kick out of it.
ReplyDeletexx,
Sherry
Kids say the cutest things! Their literal interpretations really are spot on! I love the way SweetCheeks looks at things. Smart girl. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly Sweet Cheeks. <3
ReplyDeleteDiana,
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to this post today because I was raised Catholic, and when I had my kids, I got them baptized when they were only 2 weeks old. SweetCheeks is such a precious one. Give her a hug from Sheri today.
Love,
~me
Makes perfect sense to me too!!! I think she's on to something.

She is one smart cookie... I am so blessed to know these sweet girls! I feel like their Fairy God Mother or God Mother, or a second Grand mother!
ReplyDeleteOr just a friend of their sweet and Funny Godly Grand Mother; kind of a distant relative lol Yours, Roxy
Smart cookies, both of them!
ReplyDeleteOh, Sweetcheeks and I are so alike! I always thought it was a little "unique" to get in a tub in a church in front of the whole congregation too. I chickened out when I was a teenager and it was my time to do that. I opted for the lake instead. Wouldn't get into a lake this time of year though.
ReplyDeleteMy! I was baptized in the Catholic church. Personally, I think being bathtized would a heck of a lot more fun! Yeah! Makes sense to me too.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll speak to the Pope about that. I hear he is a DEEP thinker like we are. :) Thank Sweet Cheeks for me, would you please, for giving me such a great idea. Bathtized! Yeah..makes a LOT more sense!
Well, for sure bath Tism
ReplyDeleteFrom the previous post, either 3 or 7 - 3 for the wildflowers, 7 for the picket fences. But I wouldn't turn ANY of them down! haha
ReplyDeleteLOVE the baptism story. Being raised Catholic myself, I can understand how different the non-denominational baptism would seem to a child! An old Art Linkletter quote comes to mind... "Kids say the darndest things!"
I sure hope our bluebirds stay longer than a week! I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Especially now that I've ordered 2 bluebird houses! haha
Have a great week!!!

Oh, Diana, how cute. That SweetCheeks never ceases to amaze..Happy Tuesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me! I'm sitting here laughing. Your posts always make me laugh. Usually my husband is here and I share with him. He smiles. he loves his grandbaby.
ReplyDeleteIt makes perfect sense to me too! It's fun to hear when the kids go on this kind of talking :)
ReplyDeleteThe only think that surprises me about this story is that Sweet Cheeks didn't go forward to be bathtised in the Bathtismal!
ReplyDeleteShe is so hilarious, Diana!
LOL.... Too funny! I think it might just be a BATHtism!
ReplyDeleteEither way you say it, she has the right though! How precious she is!
ReplyDeletewarmly,
deb

ReplyDeleteBeing Bathtist...I think she should have jumped right in that tub...and really got bathtised! :)
ReplyDeleteOh and my sweet cheeks wants to get bathtised...just not in front of people so she is holding out! Help!!
ReplyDeletePrecious story. Just think - you will have all of the memorable stories from your posts to pass down thru the generations. How special.

Perhaps you have the female "Daniel Webster" in your midst. Love the word!
ReplyDelete"Out of the mouths of babes...." Such truth from SweetCheeks. Precious! xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteThat SC you never know what she is going to come up with. Out of the mouths of babe's. It made perfect sense to me LOL
ReplyDeleteMary
Of Course, she is RIGHT! she's so cute. :-)
ReplyDeleteShe's the best! Wonder what she'd say about the fact that my bath-tism was in a little creek in the outdoors - in February. Brrrr. It was COLD!
ReplyDeleteKids say the cutest things. I loved working at the elementary school for that reason.
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me! Tell Sweet Cheeks, my daddy baptized people in a creek. I wonder what she would call that. Those girls are so cute. xoxoGinger
ReplyDeleteOf course she is right about it being a bathtism. Anyone can see that is a bathtub. I'm a lover of long, hot baths so I think I will call them that from now on!
ReplyDeleteSo darn cute! I love what kids say! Your grandchildren are so beautiful! Thanks for sharing your sweet "chicken" story when you were growing up on my blog. So sweet! Have a wonderful day! Hugs, Maryjane xox
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the conversations you want to write down so you never forget it. Did they really use a bathtub for the Baptism? I've never seen that done. I am Baptist and the churches I've been to have the big tank at the front of the church. I have some old pics of my family where someone had taken pictures of people being Baptized in a creek.
ReplyDeleteOne of my great nephews was Baptized by a Priest. It was the sweetest thing, he was crying and crying but the Priest just kept talking to him in the calmest voice and he settled down.
Kids are the best!!
ReplyDeleteShe's such a cutie!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
OK Nana, this is the test, Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteWhat a smart little girl! Nothing is ever going to get past her! You go girlfriend! Our family baptisms are Catholic so there is not a bathtub - just an elevated basin for a cup full of water to pour over baby's forehead. My sisters and I would pack up our dolls on summer afternoons and drive the buggies over to church - just a few blocks away. We'd baptize them all, sometimes several times each. SweetCheeks would approve!
