Whooo Hoooo- It's A Virtual Heat Wave Here

I looked outside yesterday and
I couldn't believe my eyes!
We were above ZERO and climbing
according to the thermometer outside my
back door..
I put my coat and boots on and go outside
to FINALLY take down the
outside Christmas Decorations~
garlands and lights and flags.
I am done in about two hours.
They come down a
LOT FASTER
than they go up!
I put everything in the garage to pack away later.

I am done!
Done- Done- Done!
Done DE-Christmasing!
As I go to enter the house I see that this still
hangs on the garage wall by the back door.
I make an executive decision to leave it up
until Valentine's Day because it has hearts on it.
I am smiling because now I am done
INSIDE and OUTSIDE!
Whoo-Hooo....

Just to make sure I do one last quick glance around
the front of the house.
I feel pretty snickedty-doodle because I didn't
put the big wreath up this year which means
I don't have to take it down.
I glance up to where it has hung in years past.
I.Am.Done!
Done....Wait......
Wait......Wait....
WHAT THE HECK?

How the heck did I miss THAT?
The one in the window beside it is gone.
-sigh-
Ok- I am
ALMOST DONE.

Good thing BECAUSE we have
 FIVE MORE INCHES OF SNOW
coming today!

Whoopeee- I just can't wait!
How about YOU?
Are YOU done?
Are you SURE you didn't
miss just one thing?
You might want to check
before Spring rolls around and
the neighbors embarrass you by
mentioning it......
not that I have ever had THAT happen!

  1. We took our outside decorations down yesterday because it was 40 deg. and colder weather is promised. We got in the house and I looked outside and saw we missed a wreath! I guess some snow is headed our way too. Spring is a long way off but I'm dreaming about it!

  2. Yay for you! It feels good to be done. But I don't know how it would feel to have your freezing weather! :)
Put on some double socks for your tiny tootsies!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  3. It feels good to be done, or in my case to think that I am done. There is always one more thing, how does that happen every single year? When I least expect it something will appear.

  4. Five more inches of snow, oh no! It is true, we think we have covered every inch of the house and then you find just one more thing and back to attic you have to go.

  5. it's such a good feeling to get everything done and for awhile there, I didn't think any of us would be out until the groundhog saw his shadow!

How funny about the candle. It never fails, once I get my bins stored away, I find something from Christmas!

Snow? Is it headed this way???

    XO,
    Jane

  6. I had taken everything down and then the other day it dawned on me that I still had to UNDO in the kids toy room ( my 2nd and only other bedroom ) I had to undo the christmas train table stuff in there / that's all put away and now it is back to car sets and weeble people etc on the table : )

  7. Yes, I'm done and woo hoo for you! It is so much fun getting it all up and taking down is the pits! Lighter feeling when it's all down, isn't it? Have a great day and stay warm!

  8. I guess it's a universal trend, that we all neglect to remove at least one Christmas decoration item while packing things away. Last year, it was the hats and wreaths on our concrete greyhounds on the front porch. This year ... I haven't noticed it yet, but I'm sure there's something.

  9. Ha! I always, always, always miss something no matter what holiday, Diana! And afterwards, when I find it, it was just staring me in the face. I leave some things outside on purpose, too, though. Like the ice skates, a sled and I have a greenery swag and mittens on my front door. Because they say Winter to me so I let them stay up until the end of February.

  10. I'll be finding Christmas in July. Happens every year. Sometimes I make an executive decision to decorate early by leaving it up. It's all in the way a gal looks at it. We are getting deluged with rain and I would far rather have the snow. Are you baking? Tea making? Something cozy and fun?

  11. Glad you are done! We are almost done. With all that snow and cold, we couldn't get to them. Sunday what wasn't down that day, got unplugged at least. Lights are on the deck drying out so we can pack them up this weekend. No snow here, but colder again. Heavy frost this morning, its in the 20s.

  12. 5 more inches of snow???? WOW! Build us a big snowman...ok? Hugs, Penny

  13. I normally miss a thing or two, too. And it sounds like you can probably make a yard full of snowmen, tomorrow! Or, just have a snowball fight!

  14. How do you live there??? Your thermometer says 3 degrees! And to think you went outside for 2 long hours to take down Christmas stuff. If I lived there, I think I would only put up a wreath on my front door and candles in each window (on the inside) because I would panic if I had to brave those temps to take it all down. You are stronger than me!

  15. We are under a winter weather advisory here today too.

I am glad you got your undecorating all done. :-)

  16. Yep, done! But I have had that to happen before! Have a good day.

  18. I don't think I would last a week in all that cold and snow! Glad you were able to get everything done without freezing!

  19. Isn't it funny I always miss one thing or ornament!!
It has been very mild here to Diana but we are expecting another blast of snow tomorrow. We set records on the cold here in Southern Ontario never remember it getting this cold. BUT I am loving this winter!!

    Stay snugly!

  20. How funny! I just can't imagine having it that cold for so long. Driving in my neighborhood the other day I saw a stray candle in the window. They are welcoming. :)

  21. -stamping foot- No! I am not done. I have started de-Christmasing. But not done. Not much done, on the de-side actually.

And I know how those things we miss, come to haunt us. -gigggles-

Maybe that's why I'm not trying to be done yet. Save myself the irritation. Well, till a wee big later, anyway.

    -grin-

But hearty Congratulations to you! And to all! Who are (almost) done!

    Gentle hugs,
    Tessa~

  23. ha...just made this in a comment it finally got warm enough to take down outside lights....oooo Nana..stay warm!

  24. Diana, I have left up a couple of decorations that have Cardinals on them-because I think they just symbolize Winter. I am finished but now am working on packing. Today though hubby and I are going to the movies to see Meryl and Julia in there latest movie. Hope you stay warm girlfriend.
    Hugs, Noreen

  25. I have put away everything but the poinsettias!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Still been too cold or too much of a mess here so ours are still out. Hubby will have that job next weekend! But I am DONE with the inside, yippee! Know just how you feel.

  27. thanks for the reminder! I just realized I left the Charlie Brown tree in the girls room...it was the first thing I got out

  28. I always miss something with the Christmas takedown! Just a few days ago I spotted a stray gingerbread man figure in my son's room. It never fails!
Doesn't this "heatwave" make you wish for Spring? But we know only too well that it's a long way off.

  29. Hahahaha!!! I just saw two ornaments hanging in the kitchen window this morning. Glad I'm not the only one that left something behind.

  30. I left a few behind but have since collected them.

  31. Lol....I still have my table top Christmas tree up, I like the lights! Last year I left the tree up till Valentines and took all the Christmasy stuff off and put hearts all over it. I was thinking of going for St Pats. But my husband stopped me. Otherwise I might have gone till Easter...I just like the lights, you know??? Oh well, maybe not this year, I did notice Shopko has Valentine lights for sale...I might buy some, just so I can have those lights!!

  32. You've been living in the frozen tundra too long if you think THAT is a heat waive. I thought I was 100% done and then I noticed that I still had holly branches in some urns (that I walk by at least fifty times a day). Holly has red berries, so I am declaring that Valentine's Day decor too!

    ReplyDelete
  33. What a good feeling to have that task behind you! I left the Nativity out for Epiphany, and haven't stored it away. That's all that remains. Can't believe you are to have more snow! xo Nellie

  34. There's always something hidden that I miss putting away!

Glad you at least had a brief warm up.

    ReplyDelete
  35. There always seems to be one hidden thing. I had very little outside so it took about five minutes to bring it in. I'm done. xo Laura

  36. I left a tub in the hall because I keep finding little things that are Christmas and I put them in there.
I didn't put up any light outside so that was good. But the front porch is undcorated and I am finished.
    Yea yea yea.
You must have been frozen by the time you got in. Please excuse any missed spelling as I am waiting on my new glasses and I can barley see. LOL
    Stay warm.

  37. Been done..but I don't do that much..I have a snow man candle in a Mason jar that always spends the winter on my stove...Cook much??
I know you're feelin' good to have all that out of the way..We got to 50 yesterday..Mid 40's today..Nice break..

  38. ha! one year it was so dreadful putting all my christmas stuff away that i said i am never doing this again, and i haven't! now i have one small box of things i put out and put away in minutes. and the stuff is gold and red so i can leave it out longer.=)

  39. Too funny! I have had the same thing happen! I have gone up and down those attic steps a thousand times and still have a bag to take up now! I didn't even loose a pound doing "step aerobics" either!Love this and I love the heart on the angel- she's great until after Valentine's Day! Woo hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I always find one thing that failed to go in the attic. This year it was a big bundle of lights that were taken down but got covered up by a quilt:) Blame in on the cat!

  41. Diana, although I love winter, I don't like that it gets dark so early. So I have decided to keep my Christmas tree for a few more weeks. I took off all the decorations and just left the lights on. They are the clear lights and they really brighten up the corner of the dining room where the tree is. It's stands on a buffet. I'm really okay with that. It perks me up!

  42. I have never even seen a thermometer that goes to zero let alone MINUS ZERO! I am pinning this so I will remember what it looks like.
I am still packing up decorations then I have to decorate for AJ's first birthday party. They are having it here and I am soooooo excited.

  44. I wanted to tell you that the last post was so shocking.I am praying for the whole family!
But then I read todays post and I felt much better! I think leaving the heart decoration is a grand idea! You should leave up the little candle, lighted one also.
I have been busy cleaning out my very old recipe box. It has been almost a whole week!
Hey, Thanks so much for the compliment on my New Blog makeover. It has been such a blessing to me!
    Love, Roxy

  45. Yes. Your hearts and that candle need to stay. We still have a few Christmas things lingering outside. I'm blaming the mountains of snow, full time jobs and the polar vortex. Your snow is heading our way to MI and I just read another arctic blast is happening in a week. Goodness. Our ice rink will be here until April!

  46. Hi, Diana. I don't think we've "met," but I see you commenting at many of the same blogs I visit, so today I decided to stop in and say hello. I'm so glad I did...great blog you have here!

Today's post about the heat wave and finally taking Christmas down made me smile...we too have battled the weather, and I too ran home one afternoon when we had a "heat wave" of about 10 above to get it all brought in. We don't take our inside decorations till after the Ephiphany, but I feared that it would be July before we could get to the outside ones!

And yes, there's always a straggler (or in my case 5 ir 10!) that somehow gets left behind. It's like drying the sink when you think you're done in the kitchen and then there's ONE MORE THING!! Oh, well...:)

Good to "know" you. The best in 2014. ~Zuni

  47. Usually I keep our Christmas up through Epiphany, but this year we took everything down on Dec. 5th. YAY!

  48. Sneaky little candle lol! The snow hit us earlier today, I'm sure it's there now!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well my friend...I am almost done...still my wreath on the door but it looks like a wreath that can be an all season one so it will stay for a bit longer. Hugs to you and I am happy you are done! Sending you oodles of blessings.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yep, I am done. It's a good feeling, isn't it? But now the house looks a little bare, tho. That gives me an excuse to hit the flea markets and see if I can find something to jazz things up a bit!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I didn't even touch the outside decorations yet. Instead, I used the balmy day to chip the ice off the driveway. That was almost as much fun as taking down decorations. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  52. I say KUDOS TO YOU for going out in just above ZERO temps to take down Christmas decorations of all things!!!
Forget the hearts... I'd have left it all up, until warmer days or VALENTINE'S DAY. :)

Stay warm-- we've had nice days here... upper 60's

    :P

  53. Diana enjoy your heat wave!! It is the best to have all the house back in order and the decorations put away. I did the same thing when I discovered we missed a candle in the window!! It was there a couple days before I saw it. LOL
Love your angel with the hearts. Nice for Valentine's Day.
    Enjoy the warmer temps!!!
    Hugs

  54. Hahaha this sounds familiar. I always think I'm done, then I'll see something else that I forgot to put away. Yes, I'm done! That cracked me up when you called your temps a heat wave and it's 0 degrees. But I wish I could see your snow right now.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  58. I have snowman stuff in my dining room and the bathroom that I decided to leave up until it snows. Well, that could be years from now so I guess I'll take it down the end of the month.
