NO WIND TOWERS WELCOME-WHAT?

Driving along the lakeshore
from Kewaunee, WI
to
Manitowoc, WI is a
beautiful scenic route.
Lately, it is marred with
these signs.
They are asking for a
BAN.
No Wind Towers!
Well, I guess that is okay
if you feel that way.
HOWEVER,
Does ANYONE see the
irony in
THIS?

These signs
are just a short hop from
the picture below....
as in minutes away.
Yes!  It is
the Kewaunee
NUCLEAR POWER PLANT.
Certainly NOT dangerous
to your health?
Despite the fact that
THESE
are scattered all over the
countryside for miles around.
Matter of fact,
there is SO MUCH pride
about the
NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
that they have named
a road after it.
Now I ask you.
Which would
YOU RATHER live next to?
This?
Or THIS?
OR
Perhaps you would just
like to hold this instead?
Anyone else
think those are
some CRAZY signs?

  1. The signs are most likely sponsored and created with funds from the Nuclear Plant. And I guess the pride comes from the fact that the plant hires so many locals who would be out of work if it closed. And right now, there are too many folks out of work.
But I agree, the wind mills are beautiful. m.

  2. Is it the noise of the windmills or the power they produce? Plus there is a plant in Manitowoc that helps build them. Sounds like people want it both ways, safer and more economic energy but no windmills. Go figure.

  3. I do agree with you, Diana! I think wind power would certainly be a lot safer than nuclear power. I also think Mark has a point in his comment that it probably is the power plant itself and/or people who work there. They will be against something if it means they would lose their jobs.

  5. Diana, There are some wind towers going through our county. I prefer them over nuclear plants. But I know lots of those anti tower signs are around in the country side here. You know how most of that works....not in my back yard. That is not a pretty thing to look at but hey I would not want to even be near the nuclear place. Maybe if wind power proves to be better all will want it. Smiles , xo, Susie

  6. Hi diana, i think i have kind of lost hope in society... lost hope in them doing the right thing... its so obvious that its those with the money who get the monopoly on the whole world and how its run... I also kind of believe in the new world order and some power that is higher than federal law... u know... the ones who decide on everything... such as to assassinate controversial peoples such as jfk... its a sad world really. we just have to rise above it and be faithful in god and make the most of our families and our abilities to help others. rambling i know... i spose i could go on for hours and hours.. think blogspot would eventually ban me!!! sending lots of hugs to you as always! 7. I kind of like the wind towers. They don't seem like much of a danger, to me. I wonder if whoever posted those signs has stock in that nucleur power plant or something?

  8. we have many wind towers in our city and on the outskirts, they are all around us but people are boycotting them, they say the noise from them is disturbing, some are complaining of illness from them, they give off a negative ion that is making all wild life disappear in the near vicinity, houses are now more difficult to sell that are near the towers. Its a very touchy subject. Some have reported illness from them. They work beautiful but it was tested to see how lose they should be placed to houses, they now know that close to homes is not good.
We have forty of them in a line just to the east of us, you can see them from our apartment, the grass doesn't even grow as tall there.
The good with the bad right,

  9. We have quite a few turbines in our area. I love the sculptural look of them, but I know some of the farmers dislike them. They say they are noisy and the strobe effect is disturbing. We also live about 35 miles from a nuclear plant. I figure the plant will get me before the wind turbines, for sure!

  10. There really is no way to make everyone happy, however I'd rather have the windmills than the nuclear power plant!

  12. Wind power just makes sense. I think as a nation our signage has really gotten out of control. I realize some are necessary but some are just stupid! Have a good day Diana ~ Ann

  14. Kind of funny... would much rather live under a windmill than a nuclear plant...there was a big fight near our lake home to NOT have windmills on Lake Mi... they lost & they are going up.. I kind of think they are fun. Though in Mi., a few yrs. ago the govenor made a law that every city had to have sustainable power, my husband works in the utility business & says that the ones placed near our real home will never pay for themselves... not enough wind .. :)
I still like them... (though the debate will continue.. as nuclear is supposed to be much cheaper power ) Thanks for sharing those pics

  15. We saw a lot of those wind towers on our trip back to SC from PA and I'll take them over a nuclear power plant any day.

  16. There are many things I just don't understand, and opposition to windmills is one of them!

Keep up the good work, Diana!

  17. Crazy for sure. Someone trying to keep their job. Politics in action. How dumb do they think we really are?

  18. I like the idea of wind power, but there are parts of the USA who would be powerless for the most part, if we depended on it. I really don't feel danger from our Nuclear plant which is west of us.

But basically those signs are just UGLY, lol.

  19. Wow, this is something to think about! Ironic, sin't it?

  20. LOL! Does tunnel vision fit here? I think there are people out there that just jump on the "anti-anything" bandwagon without doing some research first. God Bless America... and help us! LOL!

  21. I have never thought about safetly issues with the turbines. I know I always wonder why we don't use them more to reduce our dependency on oil and gas. I remember when solar panels were introduced. Guess they were too much trouble. I certaainly wouldn't want to live near a nuclear plant.

  22. I'm all for the wind towers. Out west we have so much open space that it bothers no one here. I think they are much safer than nuclear.

  23. Hi Diana, I'm with you-I'd rather have our power generated from nature plus my sil works for a large producer of Wind Turbines. I think they're pretty cool; can't imagine what the health risk would be but hey we have gas rigs in our backyards(they use fracking to get to the gas lines)and that is much more dangerous.

  24. How crazy is that! These days what was up is down and what was down is up. Nothing makes sense.
I think the wind towers look kinda peaceful and I would prefer them a million times over the nuclear plant.
Hey Diana my grandmother lived in Manitowoc for 94 years! Its a small world isnt it :-))
    Cheers,
    Lynn

  25. I know I would not want to be next to a nuke plant! I would take the wind tower any day.

  26. I think some people just feel the need to complain about something. I'd take the windmills any day!

  27. EEK. Very scary.
Now knowing you, I am surprised that you didn't stop and make changes to the signs. ;)

  28. Good grief! There are so many things in our world now that don't make sense...consider this one of them. :/

  30. Who knows? Could it be that should something go wrong with the nuclear power plant that the wind towers could help corrupt the atmosphere. They don't tell people much when it comes to nuclear dangers. So, who knows. Perhaps their reason is legitimate. And, then, it could go the other way.

  31. We don't have any wind towers up here in our area so not sure about them but they do look harmless...anyways I see your point for sure. Hope your summer is going well. xoxo

  32. We saw so many of those windmills - but no signs against them - on our recent trip to WI. All the noise against them was inside our car! My hubby hated them. I liked them. Fun trip. hehehe

  33. I've never understood the objection to wind towers, either. And yeah, I'd rather live next to them than a nuclear power plant!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Are you kidding me? I'd rather have a wind thingy next to me any day. Maybe those people drank some of the contaminated ground water and they don't know what they are really living next door to.

  35. I'd be so nervous living by a nuclear plant, my brother lives by one in Minnesota and they are close enough that they have been given pills to take if there was a disaster, I am not sure, I thought maybe iodine pills? anyway, thank you for your sweet comment on my guest post!
