That's Me!
I am changing my name to
Rust Rustler.
I used to round up the
cows as a kid so I guess
I was a
Cow Rustler.
But, now, I am after
RUST.
You remember MyHero
does not like rust...
any rust...
especially when it gets
on concrete.
So here is my
Sweet Rusty Grate
Grate #2.
She weighs about 35 pounds.
Before:
After:
Looking purty, huh?
I moved it to the front porch
so you see it just
just as you open the door.
Let's dress this baby up.
She looks sweet..
almost angelic...
Let's add a little angel.
See the rust on the concrete
where this was sitting
before I painted it?
Yeah...that is punishable by
death in this family.
Okay- I might have exaggerated
about the death part...
but...
does anyone ELSE in blogland
ever get scolded?
Like you are 3 years old
or something?
Not saying that I ever get scolded.
So...wondering what happened
to Grate #1?
He started like this...
Before
After
He's a BIG BOY.
I think he weighs about 45 pounds.
He needs a manly plant, don't you think?
No flowers for this fella.
He needs a fern.
We won't tell him FERN is
girl's name.
He is sitting on the deck outside
my dining room.
This deck needs a good cleaning.
I should get right on that.
Yeah...
Shoulda/Woulda/Coulda
cleaned it so I could show
you the whole thing.
But...then what would I
have to talk about later?
Oh...by the way,
pop by tomorrow and you'll
hear about a
CRUSH.
And I ain't talking
Orange Soda Pop, Honey!
Diana, Those grates are just beautiful. I love the way you are displaying them. Mmmm...rust on concrete, not so good. You need to see the floor of our basement . rust spots everywhere.:)
ReplyDeleteI call it industrial:):)Smiles, Susie
Those grates are really pretty and have such wonderful detail. I love how you are using them as planters.
ReplyDeleteYep, the scolding goes on here as well! After 25 years, I have learned to ignore it. :) These grates are unbelievably awesome, beautiful job you did on them.
ReplyDeleteSue
Hi Di,
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome, so unique and pretty. What were they before? Grates for what? Nice job as always! And regarding the rust, ha ha your hero is human, I always thought he was a little to good to be true especially after the pink bike. lol.
xoxo
The crates are fabulous. Perfect planters. I still get scolded by my 87 year old mother :)
ReplyDeleteYour planter transformations are amazing. I really can't get over the difference. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteYou sure are the clever creative one Diana. I really enjoy seeing this side of you. I knew you are creative but it is fun to see what you think of. These look great as planters and so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLoving the grates. Rusty and/or white!
ReplyDeleteDiana, those turned out awesome! I love them and they really are wonderful looking planters! Ahem...crush?? Can't wait to hear this one!!
ReplyDeleteyou just keep getting better and better, thats a great grate ( theres something you would say, ha ha ), what a wonderful find they were heavy but lovely painted white, I don't mind the rust but they do fit your style pure white, just my impression, not that I know your style but to me it looks, Victorian, / shabby chic, old roses/ Rachel Rathwell, well you have beautiful taste.
ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty cool planters. Maybe if you google rust removers you can find one that removes it from concrete? Gotta keep the man happy (OK, I just can't say that without laughing). They do look great on your porches.
ReplyDeleteThey're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd one of my son's doesn't like rust at all either. He did body work and he says it's like car cancer. On a classic car it eats away at it's body and depreciates it's value. And even after it's been repaired he can spot it. How, I don't know.
Hi Diana,
ReplyDeleteThose crates are beautiful! Great transformation!
Blessings,
~Wendy
And to think I thought you were a "Hustler", Diana:)! Your grates are gorgeous, I never would have thought to use them as planters. And yes, I sure do get scolded, I tell you, I think are guys are two peas in a pod! Thought of you the other day as I was spray painting my rusted out "smooshed" welcome bucket that I always have hanging by our front door!!
ReplyDeleteI love the painted grates-I seriously had no idea about how wonderful they'd look. You have such a good eye! Can't wait to see the entire deck.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful, fun day friend.
Hugs, Noreen
Scolded, you? Surely not...I think John is just a party pooper. Love your grates. With and without rust.
ReplyDeleteYou know, you could burn supper...or, Exlax in the brownies, or a thumb tack in his chair...
So, who's in love???? Gotta be sweetcheeks.
Your grates are perfect, Diana! Lovely idea to use them as planters!
ReplyDeleteThose are soo gorgeous Diana!... I especially love the one with the pink geranium and the angel... you did a fabulous job!... xoxo Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteThese are both gorgeous, and the planting is perfect. I get scolded for having too many pots outside. I listen attentively, then ignore!
ReplyDeleteWho would think that rusty old grates could become lovely plant holders that would not blow away. We had a few strong winds in the last couple of weeks and something light would have gone bye bye. I tried your idea of putting roof shingles down to retard weed growth and by cracky, I think it really works. Thanks Diana.
ReplyDeleteAnother old incredible iron piece. Beautiful! I'm glad to know I am not the only one that gets scolded for hauling these treasures home and cluttering up the place. It must be a man thing.
ReplyDeleteThey don't recognize beauty in the ruff.
Those are just so purdy.
ReplyDeleteI love old iron and with paint and some geraniums- you've got a big hit!
ReplyDeleteNow what's this about a crush? You steppin' out on your man, girlfriend? ;)
WOW! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, those grates are beautiful. I love that you are using them as planters. They look really fabulous. Hmm, what's this about a crush?
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, your waffles look so good and they are making me hungry.
Well, now I'm going to keep my eyes open for grates. I never thought of using them as planters and they are perfect!
I would have passed these by before at an antique store or flea market but not anymore thanks to you Diana. They are really works of art.
ReplyDeleteMore pretties - I love them!
ReplyDeleteNo one around my house seems to really care what I do about the house, just as long as I do it and no one has to help me. No what I'm sayin. . .? LOL
Diana, The grates are wonderful! I never thought about using these for plants.
ReplyDeleteOh Sweet Diana,
ReplyDeleteI love these grates!! I want some, I need some - I'm going to look for some this weekend!!!
Beautiful - and I just showed my Sweetie and he likes them, hey Nana, he likes them!! Yeah!!
Diana, I never, never get scolded (every finger, toe, arms, legs and eyes are crossed!!!)
Love you, Girl! Have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Donna
I think the grates look marvelous. Amazing what a little elbow grease can do!
ReplyDeleteYou've done your magic on these...they are beautiful! And now they are clean and happy! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautiful; so very ornate and so lovely with the ferns/flowers.
ReplyDelete"Grate" work, Diana!
ReplyDeleteHello Diana, The grate is just lovely - did you use a rust inhibiting paint? You can try CLR, Rust Remover, Baking Soda + Hydrogen peroxide to tackle the rust - if worse comes to worse you can try TSP - hardware store guys will know what that is!
ReplyDeleteI am tackling some rust right now too!
Kathy
Here ya go girl - here's a link.

You're too cute! I love Mr and Mrs. Grates! They look amazing painted and dressed up! I get scolded too! I know what you mean!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I'm loving those grates, just gorgeous and elegant!! Fab Mr. & Mrs., you cracked me up pretty Diana..so cute! Very talented you are my friend. Thank you for your wonderful visit, I simply love it when you do. Have a terrific weekend.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
That is beautiful. You did such a great job and what an imagination.
ReplyDeleteOh, and what is this thing men had about rust on their concrete . . .Steve is the same way. Now, I think the rust gives it character.
Again I say, "Great Job!!!"
Connie :)
Hey girl, if you ask me all rust is good except the rust you find in dirty underwear. OOH I know, gross! lol! The grates are FAB! I would snag them up in a hurry if I ran across them. Oops, I mean rustle them up. Love how they turned out. And yes, I have left rust spots and paint spots and other stuff in places that I shouldn't. Hubby just shakes his head.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Hi Diana, I love your grates and I will take the one with your pink flowers please. I will become a grate rustler. Just kidding, but I do love how they turned out. I think we have all been scolded as though we are children. Mine has learned scolding doesn't do any good because I just ignore him. Hey, I figure if I have got to take care of him, then I can do a little my way. I can't wait for tomorrows post. Have a great day. Hugs Your Missouri Friend.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had some help moving those things around! They look amazing with their new coats of paint. And those pink geraniums are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWell you did it again. "She's" out cold under the chair. The first grate made "her" swoon, the second and it was more than "she" could take. So now I know how to get away with extra snacks...hmmmm, now I gotta run, the snack bag was left on the counter.....
ReplyDeletePurrs,
Romeo

ReplyDeletelove it ! just had to add to the already overflowing comments and say I like this so much
ReplyDelete-KAT-
