I love books.
I love bookstores.
I especially love
Barnes & Noble.
It is my second favorite
place to visit...
a close follow up to
Starbucks.
Now, the good thing about
Barnes & Noble
is that they have a
Starbucks
IN THE STORE.
God was smiling down
just for me when they
came up with
that combination.
Our little Sweetcheeks
loves Barnes and Noble, too.
Her Mom and I went there
after picking her up from
KIDDYGARDEN
the other day.
First we had a bite of lunch
at the Starbucks counter.
She's a good eater and will
eat anything put in front of her..
well, except for meatloaf,
but we won't talk about that here.
but it does involve gagging.
Then we must look for a book.
This is NOT an easy task.
Someone wants an expensive
BARIBE book
with CDs and all the glitz.
Mom says NO.
She is not interested
in SweetCheeks having
Barbie "stuff".
Uh-oh-
Here comes the
mini-meltdown.
SweetCheeks
settles herself in a chair
and declares
My Mom doesn't wahnt
me to have ENY fun...
EVAH! Seriously, Nana..
I nefver havfe eny
fun!
We let her have her
moment of despair
and then,
being sweet tempered
underneath it all,
she snaps out of it,
and picks something that
is agreeable to everyone.
WHAT is the deciding factor?
Well, it comes with a necklace-
of course it does!
Mom also picks her up a
FIRST GRADE MATH WORKBOOK.
Now I am not bragging but
on the way home
SweetCheeks is looking through
her new workbook.
Mom, I dohn't know WHY
yohu got me this boohk!
Why's that?
Cuz..it's a baby book
and I'll be through it in
NO TIHME.
(Seriously? You are in
4 year old KIDDYGARDEN
and you think this is a
BABY BOOK).
Mom (slightly disgusted)
takes the book
and turns to one of the
last HARD pages in
the book.
Okay, SweetCheeks..
WHAT is 22 + 3?
Pfffft..Isss 25!
WHAT? Okay a fluke there.
Okay, then,
WHAT is 18 + 4?
Pfffft...Issss 22!
OMGOSH!
I am choking back my laughter
as we sit stunned.
I guess next time we will
go for something a little
harder.
A copy for SWEETCHEEKS....
And a copy for ME!
What I want to know is
how do today's kids
get smart so fast?
She could probably balance your checkbook, Diana! : ) Everything starts early now.
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughter will be 21 months in about 10 days and what a drama queen already. Putting her little hands up over her eyes when she's crying or over her mouth, like it's just too horrible to contemplate ~ I expect we have a lot of theatrics coming our way!
That girl sure does keep you on your toes... : )
ReplyDelete& I recently went to NY city, sat on a small stool in the Nintendo store, while my little cousins shopped... all these 4 & 5 yr. olds were playing/working on these computer thingies... I didn't even know how to turn them on... kids these days.. WAY ahead of the adults....
Ahhh...books and coffee! A combination that can't be beat. The kids at school tell me that our media center smells like Starbucks...why you ask? Because in "Library School" they taught us that if you want a library where the teachers want to come....make sure you keep the coffee on! So I make a pot of 48 cups every day....and it works! See-I was way ahead of the game!

ReplyDeleteNow that Sweet Cheeks is very impressive at 4. Every generation of kids is smarter than the last. I am sure if I had to do what the kids do today in school I would have to Google it, to even begin to know where to start.

SC is so much like Craig its not even funny. He was like that when he was little. Could count to 32 at age 2! That's how many channels we had on the tv at the time.
My biggest concern with him was not to get him too far ahead of his age group when we worked on stuff at home so he wouldn't be bored in school, and then become a problem for his teacher! I did that with Doug, and he was so bored when they did it at school cuz he already knew it. They wanted to know how he knew it, and he said my mom taught me that already.
I am sure having older sisters show her things, too, is going to make this little diva a genius!
Hope you are having a good day after all you did yesterday. Mine so far is doing just fine. Need to go and get Craig up to get started on another area of the bedroom...yuck.
As soon as my grandson came home from school and was doing homework, my grand daughter started to do homework and was writing letters just like him. I am amazed at her math skills - a child prodigy!

ReplyDeleteFirst I have to say I was reading your post about Olive Garden and when I scrolled down I almost lost it! (laughed so hard had to run pee) That is CRAZY. That person had to be uncomfortable.

She is such a darling and wise beyond her years. My daughter babysat a little two year old for awhile and not long after he learned some basic words, he was counting! Amazing!
