Saint Patrick's Setting For One

I don't
PLAY
very much
just for myself.

Now, for my grandkids
I will play make-believe
for hours.
I challenge them to
learn new things
and enjoy pretty things.

Today, however,
I am
PLAYING HOUSE
just for me!

I have some wonderful
dishes that my daughters
splurged on for me.
They have
Shamrocks on them and a tad
of gold trim.
Isn't this china sweet?
Here is the mark on the bottom.
We have looked for it everywhere
and can't find out anything
about it.
We did find Paragon china but
not this pattern anywhere.
If you know anything about it
I would love some information.
There's a creamer but no
sugar bowl.
Now I did make some sugar cookies
for you to enjoy.
Cute cut outs in the oven...
SIGH...BIG FAIL!
The only one that didn't turn
into a big green blob
was this one.
And, as you can see,
this is one plug ugly cookie.
Tasted good-but NOT purty!

Well, at least the dishes are pretty.
And a Belleek vase that my daughter
brought home from Ireland.
No Irish setting is complete
without a
Bit 'O Shamrock
The tea towel that wraps the
silverware belonged to
my hubby's great grandmother.
It is something I treasure
because of the monogram on it.
W is also the letter for
my maiden name.
AND..
last but not least...
My friend, Judy, that I have known
for about 100 years
sent me this several years ago.
Now-What's the story there?
My Uncle Dick used to call me
Duffy.
His tag line to Duffy was..
"Duffy- Your hair is just the color of a fox fart!"
(I wonder what color he thought my hair was)
Anyway~
He said that most endearingly
I think...hmmmm...
I don't know where that came from but
I sure knew he loved me .

I made the big mistake of telling
my friend, Judy, that fact.
Thus-the book!
Did you see the title?
Duffy and the DEVIL?
Yeah...some kinda friend SHE is!

That does it!
Now I'm gonna spill her
secret, too.
Her nickname was
JUDD!

I'd much rather be a
DUFFY
than a
JUDD,
wouldn't you?;>)
just sayin.....

ps...the Devil made me tell you that!

  3. I am so in love with your shamrock setting!!! It's beautiful! You are really getting into the spirit! Duffy isn't a bad nickname at all, it's pretty cute! It's funny how they follow through your life isn't it? I was always called Mink by relatives, still am actually. I kind of like it, it's quirky.

  6. Too funny! And I am so jealous of your shamrock china! I have never seen that pattern before. I love Duffy and the Devil too....that line is ALWAYS good for a snicker (or down right laugh out loud) by my kiddos. Happy St. Pat's Day to you!

  11. Duffy is better than my nickname that will remain nameless, used to be.
Hah, your friend must be funny for 100 years old.
Just buy some cookies and then own them.
My computer is seriously all messed up....so if you don't see me for awhile send the Geek Squad.....it's only a couple months old.

  14. What a fun way to start my day, reading this post! I couldn't laugh out loud, as my husband is still sleeping, however, I smiled from ear to ear! So clever and fun! I love the china...have a sugar bowl that might be made from the same company. I will check it out and let you know.

  17. I think Duffy is cute, but I think of it as a boy name. That may just be because we have a cousin named Duffy. I think he was named for his Grandmother - whose name was Carrie Duff Cribbs. She passed away long before I ever entered the world, so I really don't know. I'm actually just an in law. But hey... that's better than being an out law, right?

  18. Very pretty, Diana! Hopefully, someone will know something about this pattern; I know nothing about dishes and stuff like that.

  19. Diana, your posts always bring a smile to my face! It is one terrific writer you are! The dishes are wonderful! I wish I could help you with where to find more. I'm hoping to get back to my own blog soon. Things are still crazy around here, of course. Have to take a little time for myself, though.:-) Have a great Tuesday. xoxo

  31. So glad to hear that you are playing just for yourself today, Diana! I love your pretty china, I've never seen any like it. I've got a small Belleeck vase that I brought back from Ireland that I just love! And I totally need your "W" linen!! As far as the "fox fart", I'm gonna leave that one alone................!
Oh, what time should I come over for the corned beef & cabbage?

  33. Diana,
Your table setting for one is perfect. I love St. Patrick's Day. I have always thought that the Irish were a jolly people. We were married 31 years ago by a happy Irish priest. This china is wonderful. It's nice to treat just ourselves once in awhile.

  34. I like your St. Patricks Day table setting. Don't worry too much about how those cookies came out. The main thing is that they taste good!

  35. What fun to have dishes with shamrocks.

Don't you hate it when the sugar cookies spread too much? I get so discouraged when I try to make decorated sugar cookies. But they usually taste good even if they are not the prettiest.

I still treasure a little Belleek vase that I brought back from Ireland almost fifty year ago! I bought it at the factory where I saw the lovely china being made and hand painted.
I'm visiting you from dear Gert's blog:)

You do have a very unique set of dishes-I've never seen this one anywhere before.
I have to agree with you-I like Duffy far better than Judd. But I think Judd sounds like a 'fun' friend to have!

  47. You didn't get the cloche??? Well, let me tell you...while he is enjoying his game...I would be taking the car on a little jaunt and finding me a cloche...now that is just me, but think about it!!
Looks like a fun time though...a great idea for a fund raiser!!

  51. Gosh! Those shamrock dishes are just so delicate-looking and dainty. I love the vase also...it goes so well with the dishes. Hey, the title of your blog NanaDiana TAKES A BREAK so baking cookies and doing a table setting "just beacase" is perfectly acceptable.
