I don't
PLAY
very much
just for myself.
Now, for my grandkids
I will play make-believe
for hours.
I challenge them to
learn new things
and enjoy pretty things.
Today, however,
I am
PLAYING HOUSE
just for me!
I have some wonderful
dishes that my daughters
splurged on for me.
They have
Shamrocks on them and a tad
of gold trim.
Isn't this china sweet?
Here is the mark on the bottom.
We have looked for it everywhere
and can't find out anything
about it.
We did find Paragon china but
not this pattern anywhere.
We did find Paragon china but
not this pattern anywhere.
If you know anything about it
I would love some information.
There's a creamer but no
sugar bowl.
Now I did make some sugar cookies
for you to enjoy.
Cute cut outs in the oven...
SIGH...BIG FAIL!
The only one that didn't turn
into a big green blob
was this one.
And, as you can see,
this is one plug ugly cookie.
Tasted good-but NOT purty!
Well, at least the dishes are pretty.
And a Belleek vase that my daughter
brought home from Ireland.
No Irish setting is complete
without a
Bit 'O Shamrock
The tea towel that wraps the
silverware belonged to
my hubby's great grandmother.
It is something I treasure
because of the monogram on it.
W is also the letter for
my maiden name.
AND..
last but not least...
My friend, Judy, that I have known
for about 100 years
sent me this several years ago.
Now-What's the story there?
My Uncle Dick used to call me
Duffy.
His tag line to Duffy was..
"Duffy- Your hair is just the color of a fox fart!"
(I wonder what color he thought my hair was)
Anyway~
He said that most endearingly
I think...hmmmm...
I don't know where that came from but
I sure knew he loved me .
I made the big mistake of telling
my friend, Judy, that fact.
Thus-the book!
Did you see the title?
Duffy and the DEVIL?
Yeah...some kinda friend SHE is!
That does it!
Now I'm gonna spill her
secret, too.
Her nickname was
JUDD!
I'd much rather be a
DUFFY
than a
JUDD,
wouldn't you?;>)
just sayin.....
ps...the Devil made me tell you that!
ps...the Devil made me tell you that!
Isn't it fun to play house!
ReplyDeleteYour treasures are beautiful and the cookie looks delish!
I like your adult version of playing house....all looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with your shamrock setting!!! It's beautiful! You are really getting into the spirit! Duffy isn't a bad nickname at all, it's pretty cute! It's funny how they follow through your life isn't it? I was always called Mink by relatives, still am actually. I kind of like it, it's quirky.
ReplyDeleteI bet you had fun playing. Those dishes are so very pretty Diana. What a nice play date you had. Cookie looks good too.
ReplyDeleteThose dishes are beautiful! I've never seen any like them. Every once in awhile, it's fun to play with dishes, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteToo funny! And I am so jealous of your shamrock china! I have never seen that pattern before. I love Duffy and the Devil too....that line is ALWAYS good for a snicker (or down right laugh out loud) by my kiddos. Happy St. Pat's Day to you!
ReplyDeleteDiana. it looks so pretty! The dishes are beautiful! I guess this brand was a favorite of the British Royal family. You can read about it here.

So, Duffy- that's a pretty green cookie there loaded with sugar.
ReplyDeleteLove the dishes though. Pretty.

ReplyDeleteDiana, Those dishes are very pretty. I love the shamrock plant. My daughter had one once, it just lasted a long time...but she could never remember to water it.:( We are all practicing our Irish brogue this week.Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteDuffy is better than my nickname that will remain nameless, used to be.
ReplyDeleteHah, your friend must be funny for 100 years old.
Just buy some cookies and then own them.
My computer is seriously all messed up....so if you don't see me for awhile send the Geek Squad.....it's only a couple months old.
Duffy is better than my nickname that will remain nameless, used to be.

What a fun way to start my day, reading this post! I couldn't laugh out loud, as my husband is still sleeping, however, I smiled from ear to ear! So clever and fun! I love the china...have a sugar bowl that might be made from the same company. I will check it out and let you know.

suchbeautiful treasures and the lovely story is the best treasure of all!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful china Diana!
ReplyDeleteAnd the story..too cute!
Are you digging out your shorts today?
Amazing weather huh? Of course it won't last but it's a great start to spring!
Hugs friend,
Cindy
I think Duffy is cute, but I think of it as a boy name. That may just be because we have a cousin named Duffy. I think he was named for his Grandmother - whose name was Carrie Duff Cribbs. She passed away long before I ever entered the world, so I really don't know. I'm actually just an in law. But hey... that's better than being an out law, right?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Diana! Hopefully, someone will know something about this pattern; I know nothing about dishes and stuff like that.
ReplyDeleteDiana, your posts always bring a smile to my face! It is one terrific writer you are! The dishes are wonderful! I wish I could help you with where to find more. I'm hoping to get back to my own blog soon. Things are still crazy around here, of course. Have to take a little time for myself, though.:-) Have a great Tuesday. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny story about your uncle! Fox fart just sounds funny...hehe.
ReplyDeleteThe shamrock dishes from your daughters are very pretty!
And..thanks for your sweet comments on the dining room table! Have a great day!! Kristen
I'd take an ugly, delicious cookie over a pretty/tastes bad one any day.
ReplyDeleteThe plates are beautiful. Love the way you put everything together.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous place setting! And at the end of the day, it only matters how the cookie tasted :-) xo
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the tea set! And that cookie smells so good! I know it tasts delicious, and that's what matters, right?
ReplyDeletexxDaniella
Been out of town just now catching up on blogs. Monogram linens are great but one that is a family treasure. WOW! They are getting harder to find in good shape. Looks like you are getting geared up for the next holiday celebration.
ReplyDeleteDuffy, may I please have a bite of that shamrock cookie? :)
ReplyDeleteThose dishes are BEAUTIFUL! I know nothing about collecting dishes but I can tell those are a treasure...You are too funny - "fox fart", just when I thought I had heard it all!
ReplyDeleteOh, how pretty! What time is tea?
ReplyDeleteOh! how I love those dishes! they are beautiful! I would have so much fun playing with them too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tea table you have set!! The china is totally gorgeous! And whether the cookie is a green blob or not, it doesn't matter. It looks delicious. Just add a piping hot cup of Earl Grey, and you've got a lovely afternoon pick-me-up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a sweet tea break. I enjoyed having tea at your place.
Have a great day.
Love,
Patti
What a sweet daughter to give you that lovely china! I'd be tempted to eat from those every day. You have done a perfect St. Patrick's table setting! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you are playing just for yourself today, Diana! I love your pretty china, I've never seen any like it. I've got a small Belleeck vase that I brought back from Ireland that I just love! And I totally need your "W" linen!! As far as the "fox fart", I'm gonna leave that one alone................!
ReplyDeleteOh, what time should I come over for the corned beef & cabbage?
Those dishes are fantastic! Looks like a fun time.
ReplyDeleteDiana,
ReplyDeleteYour table setting for one is perfect. I love St. Patrick's Day. I have always thought that the Irish were a jolly people. We were married 31 years ago by a happy Irish priest. This china is wonderful. It's nice to treat just ourselves once in awhile.
~Sheri at Red Rose Alley
I like your St. Patricks Day table setting. Don't worry too much about how those cookies came out. The main thing is that they taste good!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to have dishes with shamrocks.
ReplyDeleteDon't you hate it when the sugar cookies spread too much? I get so discouraged when I try to make decorated sugar cookies. But they usually taste good even if they are not the prettiest.
Hi sweetie! I'm not sure where else to put this so you find it but here's the link to the rainbow cupcakes: http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/taste-a-rainbow-cupcakes-842128/ Have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Diana! I just found your cute blog...and I have joined as a follower. I just LOVE that china..it is beautiful! Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Patsy
ReplyDeleteWell it looks like you had a grand time playing. I adore your dishes. So delicate. I'm no help when it comes to info. though. Your monogrammed napkin is my favorite thing. Shocker right?!!
ReplyDeleteDiana, this china is GORGEOUS! It's lovely and just perfect for a St. Patrick's Day Party! I love playing house for grown ups too! The napkin is stunning! Beautiful setting!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty china Diana, love the vase too!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by with your sweet comment, I didn't mean to get down at all that day but I did...miss her so! I'm alright now though, I know she's happy with the Lord!
Love your dishes! And what a cute book! I would love to visit Ireland someday..Happy crafting!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table setting! Blobs or not those cookies look delicious!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny when you start to think about the nicknames we give each other? I started to list some of the crazy nicknames I've had...then I thought I'd better just keep that to myself! LOL!
With St. Patrick's day coming so soon that sugar cookie looks very delicious.
ReplyDeleteKristy @ 4 the love of WOOD
You are a funny lady! What a lovely china set with sweet shamrocks. I don't know of the Paragon brand, sorry. I do love the little Belleek vase. I still treasure a little Belleek vase that I brought back from Ireland almost fifty year ago! I bought it at the factory where I saw the lovely china being made and hand painted.
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting you from dear Gert's blog:)
Wow! You sure got a lot of comments on this post. :)
ReplyDeleteThe dishes are lovely. And I love sugar cookies. I haven't made them in ages.
We could have had a birthday party. :) Yeah, today was my birthday, wasn't going to tell anyone here in blogland lol, but oh well... the secret is out. lol
Playing house is fun, huh?
I love Irish things. My ancestors come from Scotland, just across the water. :)
Have a great Wednesday. Take care, Janet W
Diana
ReplyDeleteYou do have a very unique set of dishes-I've never seen this one anywhere before.
I have to agree with you-I like Duffy far better than Judd. But I think Judd sounds like a 'fun' friend to have!
You didn't get the cloche??? Well, let me tell you...while he is enjoying his game...I would be taking the car on a little jaunt and finding me a cloche...now that is just me, but think about it!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun time though...a great idea for a fund raiser!!
Beautiful dishes!! I kinda forgot all about the upcoming holiday!!
ReplyDeleteOh sure, blame it on the devil. Good way to get out of something!
ReplyDeleteDiana, your China is beautiful! I will send you a bit of information later via email, and keep an eye out for you!
Go back to playing house and have fun!
Hugs,
Donna
Fox farts are colored? Who knew?
ReplyDeleteLove your dishes- haven't even thought of St. Paddy's day yet!
Gosh! Those shamrock dishes are just so delicate-looking and dainty. I love the vase also...it goes so well with the dishes. Hey, the title of your blog NanaDiana TAKES A BREAK so baking cookies and doing a table setting "just beacase" is perfectly acceptable.
